that. >> was good. a great transition. molly: two second grade they get and they race over there for the food. todd: i don't want to talk with my mouth full so why don't you talk, molly how the president celebrated christmas. molly: he has been down there in florida at mar-a-lago taking off after what he felt was a pretty strong december in washington, d.c. taking a little break to enjoy christmas festivities. he went, of course, to christmas eve mass along with the first lady. we have just a few shots here. griff: he is there at bethesda to see the church where he and melania got married at palm beach. what i love about this is president was late to mass. and he is just like all of us. they have "us weekly" stars like us. the president is just like the rest of us. i always arrive late to mass especially on the holidays i'm going to get there and there is going to be a seat.

to the organization, which total upwards of $3 billion a year. ambassador nikki haley praised the move calling it a big step in the right direction. guatemala now joining the united states, announcing its plan to move its embassy in israel to jerusalem. it is the first country to follow president trump's lead in making that change. the central american nation was one of nine to vote against a u.n. resolution denouncing trump's order. guatemala also played a key role in the vote to establish the modern state of israel as the first to vote yes back in 1947. and now heroes have to spend christmas away from family today. running from a nine month tour in the middle east just in time for christmas. >> like this is for real. this is -- i'm home. >> probably one of the happiest moments of my life. >> best christmas ever. >> it's been home but i'm glad he is home.

why it's life-changing. molly: when it comes to christmas, you know, the kids get so excited about the gifts and presents. how do you remind them about that true story. >> what my parents always did. i'm third of seven and we would always stand up on top of the steps and run down in the morning. i will never forget my dad did something very, very simple. before we were allowed to open the gifts he would make us go down and kneel down before the karesh. it seemed like his prayer was probably half annual hour. it was probably about 10 seconds or 30 seconds. that made a big difference. he was reminding us that's what counts. griff: father morris i went to saint patrick's 5:30 mass as a new catholic exciting for me to go. i got a seat. shot a video on senior richy. is he marching before the mass began. he got the baby jesus out of the nativity scene all the

merry christmas. thanks for joining us on this christmas morning. >> thanks for having me. merry christmas to you and all the viewers. molly: kicking things off, we just listened to mr. flake talking about what he thinks will happen in the upcoming election if the president runs again which he seems to be well on the road towards running in 2020. what does this? do you think he will see a independent challenger or republican challenger. >> i don't think he will see republican challenger. if he did, quite frankly it, would be laughable for somebody in the truck party to try to take on this president. senator flake is not just never trump. he is also never right. he talked about trump being on this path. as if he is on the wrong path. when i look at back at this year of 2017 and see economic. gulf of mexico on the court southern border largely under control. isis all but eliminated. what i see is a path to success. a path to victory. now with these tax cuts done and codified heading into 2018, i think the economy is going to go into lift off

mode. not only do i think trump face any threats in the party. >> he will consolidate the matter into the party we should be. jeff flake represents the republican party of 20156789 i call them republicrats. this is for washington's benefit not the american worker. that's changed dramatically now. griff: steve, let me put a tweet up here for the president here just yesterday, the fake news refused to talk about how big and how strong our base is. they show fake polls just like they reporter fake news despite all the negative reporting. we are doing well. nobody is going to beat us. make america great again. is it your sense that guys like jeff flake, bob corker and others have simply underestimated the president's base? >> of course they have. as has the mainstream media by the way all along. they certainly did during the election. they have during the presidency. many people in mainstream media, by the way, these are no longer journalists unfortunately. instead, they are opposition

advocacy group of people who are just hell bent on trying to paint every presidential accomplishment as somehow a problem. but the people, i think, are smarted enough to see through that they certainly did during the election. i think they do now and will by the way come trump 2020. they voted primarily i think because of economic reasons. because of the economic anxiety for the last decade the american worker has been left behind while the 1 hers -- top 1% of 1% did incredibly well under the leadership of people like senator flake, senator corker. that's changing now. product tiflproductivity surgin. americans are confident, optimistic, they are making more money. they are very happy, i think, regardless of what we see from polling. we know a lot of those polls are inaccurate. they were in 2016, they are now. they are in their pocketbook and lives feel more prosperous, safer and secure. they will thank president trump for that. molly: i had a chance to get on the campaign trail quite a it lo.

then president trump's campaigns. drawing in 10,000 or more at these campaign rallies. the question was were they going to show up and vote? they did. he has been going out on -- some call it a victory tour, thank you tour. holding all these big rallies and once packing huge rooms. in ohio and pennsylvania. there on the ground it was not hard to find trump voters at the polls. now he is coming at the end of this year with this list of what really feels like are strong victories including most recently tax reform. so wee will see what happens as we head into the mid terms and 2020 will be here before wee know. steve, thanks for being here this morning. >> thank you. > molly: coming up christmas day. what do you tell santa didn't get everything on your wish list? griff: here is one of his grandson buddying opening presents.

molly: is it okay to talk politics, too? >> absolutely. keep an open mind. i'm a person who believes that you should listen with the intent to understanding and if you disagree with someone, can you say hey, let's just agree to disagree. however, if the person is getting too heated, you can always change the subject. talk about happy things. talk about christmas memories. molly: go ahead, griff. griff: what happens when that person not only takes us where we don't want to go and then they linger and won't leave? how do you tell them to get out? >> you close the bar. that makes everybody leave. molly: bring out the coffee? >> no, a lot of times what can you do is you can just escort people to the door. you can shut the bar down. i mean, people will get the message. wish them a merry christmas, open the door and say it's really nice to see you, hope to see you next year. molly: i'm really fortunate. i'm usually the person getting to go to the christmas party held by my husband's cousin. if the evening is wrapping up, how do you signal that

their families. it's a pleasure for me to be working today so that others can be home and enjoying christmas with their family. as far as what nikki haley has done i think it's terrific. it's about time we sent a message to the u.n., which has become a place of hate when it comes to the united states and israel. you know that israel's representative to the u.n. once said that if algeria introduced a resolution that the earth was flat, and that israel flattened it, it would win by a vote of 120 to 63 with 28 abstentions. and there has to be consequences for this kind of voting. look what donald trump did, president trump did in recognizing jerusalem was the right thing, what it did is it struck the balance that president obama had undone when he changed the status quo at the end of his presidency by declaring the western wall, the jiewrk quarter. the access who university to hospital equally that's what changed the status quo.

what president trump did was to restore balance and everybody should have recognized that and that vote at the security council and the general assembly should be responded to and nikki hale, who has become a real hero did exactly the right thing. first of many steps i think she will take to bring the united nations back to where it ought to be, a neutral arbiter of peace, not a place of hate tread. go ahead. molly: professor, i was going to say you have written extensively on the topic of israel in general. we were just getting word that guatemala has now joined the united states in a decision to move their embassy to the capital as well we see more countries getting on board. >> i think we will see a few more countries getting on board. there will be a lot of pressure not to do it. israel has established very good relations with some central and south american countries. african countries, endia, china, they are not going to vote with israel right away. but they are seeing a closer relationship. even some of the gulf

states. the arab gulf states now see israel as a potential ally against iran. and, again, it was president obama who created strength in thiranian regime by handing over so much money. and now we hear reports that maybe he intriewrd with the justice department investigation of some hezbollah-related drug dealings. if that's interview. it really has to be looked into in great detail. look, israel is the only democracy in the middle east. america's strongest ally in the middle east. and the united states and other countries ought to be supportive. the capital of israel has always been jerusalem. they can also be a palestinian capital in east jerusalem if the palestinians come to the bargaining table and make the kind of compromises that are essential to secure israel's security and want to make peace. the palestinians want there to be a palestinian state more than a jewish state in the reason. we will see peace.

griff: the deputy fbi director andrew mccabe reportedly retiring at the beginning of 2018. i chasehood him dow chased him e hallways. clearly quite a big story. the president tweeting about him. not favorably yesterday. what are your thoughts on the mccabe situation and the larger question of are we going to learn whether or not he was biased against the trump administration? >> well, first of all, everybody tells me who knows mccabe and has worked in the fbi that he is a very decent guy and was an excellent deputy director. having said that he should have recused himself immediately from any investigation involving hillary clinton because of his wife's connection to hillary clinton. when you are investigating a presidential candidate, whether it be hillary clinton or president trump, you have to be caesar's wildfire, you have to be above reproach. make sure not only there are no conflicts no perceived conflict. no bias but no perception of bias. he didn't pass that test.

communication strategy toward talking about his accomplishments, talking about what he wants to get done, talking about bipartisan, then he puts democrats on the defense because right now, the democrats really they should be working in a bipartisan fashion with trump because they agree with trump on infrastructure. they agree with him on some of the things on immigration. they agree on children's health care. and so the question is are democrats going to abandon bipartisan, especially here during the holiday season, or are they going to do what's right and help the american people? >> chuck, i see it in your head. democrats, not a single one voted for obamacare or tax reform, what are we going to see? bipartisan out of democrats? >> no. as long as you have donald trump in the white house, i don't think you'll see a lot of bipartisan. two one of my favorite republicans, he makes a great point. you want to put us into the corner? look at me. here's free advice on christmas morning. get an infrastructure built through the congress. make the democrats vote against the infrastructure bill. try to really do something to fix these dreamer policy that's out there with all of

these young kids. 20,000 of them that are public school teachers. 10,000 that are in our military that you wanted to port. make us do something. make sure there's policies authoritative to vote against and then you can come out and say you have to do something other than have resistance. >> so, ron, you can respond to that but also, is it going to be immigration? what is the president if you're advising him going to be the next story we're talking about? the next issue that he tackles? >> the next thing has to be infrastructure. after tax reform, which helps spur the economy, you also need economic development. and the way you do that is by rebuilding america's infrastructure, whether it's our airports, which have fires in them now or bridges which are crumbling or new roads and new economic connections between cities and out to the rural areas that help our economy be more efficient. help people get out of congestion. help people get out to work quicker. that is exactly right. if what chuck said republicans want to put trump in the corner, that's exactly the way to go, and that's what i think

tangible. so we can't spend cash we don't have. and if you're looking at next holiday season and maybe trying to avoid the debt you have this season, well, maybe you you take out your full budget in cash so that when you run out, keep spending it. >> did you see a few segments ago i had my family on, i gave my youngest daughter two taylor swift tickets. so i have already failed that as well. >> i will say experiences are great gifts when you can afford them, of course. because they appreciate in value over time. your memory grows fonder and fonder of those experiences, as opposed to stuff. as soon as you get stuff, it starts losing value immediately. >> so you gave great advice for next year. but let's say people have used their credit cards thus far. we're going into 2018. you say you need to pay off the high interest debt first. then focus on the other stuff. >> that's right. so if you took out credit card debt, that's probably going to be your highest interest debt. though, don't assume anything. actually look up all of the debts you took out, look up their balances, look up their interest rates. and then prioritize by highest

and screaming and you don't want to tap their enthusiasm because they're excited. but you do need to realize that that's the first reaction the puppy is getting of the family and you don't want them to be overwhelmed. so the first thing you could do is right away give the puppies something to do with their time so that they have a positive interaction. like food toys are great. and so you can give them toys like the ones i have here on the floor that are really engaging for puppies. you fill them with food so that they get to play with them like you see here. and then the nice thing about that is that the puppy is developing a positive association with the new family because they're playing with as to toys, and they're having a good time. >> my sister-in-law and her fiancé just adopted a rescue dog. about seven years old. so when you're adopting an older dog, what are the tips. >> well, even more so. because you have a dog whose whole world has been turned upside down. you're coming from one experience, one family to possibly a shelter which can be very traumatizing and then

be a positive message for those waking up to four feet of snow in some parts of the u.s. adam, who is waking up to four feet of snow and freezing christmas? >> folks in the great lakes are waking up to a ton of snow. the cold weather will be nationwide. there is just a huge arctic air mass moving from canada settling in. these temperatures have been plummeting in the last 24 hours. you look at 0 in chicago. the windchill 4° in cleveland. negative 37 in fargo. if i can take you to that area you're looking at a ton of really chilly temperatures everywhere getting down into the negative 15 to negative 20 range when you get into the upper plains and areas along the great lakes. there are areas where we're tracking snow. dry in the cold area. if you track you off to the east you look at snow falling in the mid-atlantic. new england is where we'll see the heaviest snowfall.

alive and well? >> it's nice to know that i was able to be a catalyst to extend a life. there was a lot of people involved in it. a large team. one would be her niece who decided that she was going to donate a kidney to another anonymous donor if a catalyst like me was to donate to her. so there was a daisy chain after that. so by me donating one, i was able to extend the life of at least four people. >> how did you come to do that? >> 2015 -- i have a history of trying to do things for others as you know with the fire department. hello ladder 35. that one, right? thanks. and engine 40, i'm sure they don't want to feel slighted. at this point in time 2015 i'm on the job working on a project in nicaragua. my job is to try to do some action, feel with the heart, act with your head. one of them was how can i help

and now to have someone like this is just a miracle above and beyond. i really believe that kevin was the person i was supposed to get that kidney from. >> we've talked about kevin's life but i want to go a little more into your life. the underlying condition that created this need for the kidney is a condition that basically forced you to not have children of your own and led you to become a special ed. teacher where you would shape the lives of hundreds of other kids. talk a little bit about that. >> well, the disease is poly cystic kidney disease. it has hit everyone in five generations in my family. it was a choice for my husband and i not to pass this on because the odds were so high. and special ed. has been my life as well as my husband.

40 to 50 below zero. it is settling down into the united states. the windchill. fargo answer, close to negative 40 at this point windchill. it is settling in and chilly across the entire country. i can zoom in on some of the actual temperatures there. these are actual temperatures, not windchill. you've got negative 15 to 20 degrees in a lot of areas in the upper plains states running towards the great lakes states. frigid. areas where we're seeing snowfall. it is clear in that area and dry. if you run off farther to the east we're seeing snow falling at this point. that will continue. there will be areas where we see a lot of snowfall. no surprise here we have watches and warnings. stretching you up into new england running into maine. that will be an area where we see the most snow as we wrap up the rest of this christmas holiday. the forecasteed snowfall.

i get to share something extra special today. my mom's no-bake cheesecake. it is pretty simple which it needed to be for me to handle this today. can i have the baby? i'll let everyone else. there is my wonderful mom, patricia who helped me with this recipe. she gave me tips. let the cream cheese soften and everything will go wrong if i don't make sure that happens. we have soft cream cheese to kick things off. i know you want to handle this. >> i don't want to scare marin. >> she starts with the sugar first. dump in the sugar. you are doing great. maybe i'll let you get ready for the whipped cream in a second. go in with that. mix that up first. you add the 12 ounces of cream cheese with the -- a simple way. step away from the mixer and griff this morning. looks good. very impressed. looks like you've done this

before. then she says to add the sour cream. 6 ounces of sour cream to the 12 ounces of cream cheese. dump that in. excellent work. also the vanilla, two caps of vanilla. she didn't have an exact measurement. two caps. the old school way to do it. once this all mixes together you are chilling it. you're chilling it. you fold in the whipped topping. that dumps in. now put -- that's the mixer out. that's done. this folds in and it gets spread in the pre-made. this is the way to do it. this is the way to do it. pick up a pie crust.
