started. rachel: tell us what the democrats did that made it so easy for president trump to do this. >> what happened was as we saw during the bombing frustration a reasonably fast pace filling judicial vacancies but that's lacking a little bit over time. part of it was because they didn't move as quickly is because they held firm on the nomination process. you saw president trump inherit a large number of vacancies in what is wonderful to see if the administration has not been sitting back on its heels but it's been moving quickly and forcefully to fill this open spot. pete: there is a filibuster rule but also made it easier. >> that's exactly right. that would make it easier in the past for senators to frustrate an attempt to put people on the bench. democrats several years but blew that up in the consequences we see now is enabling president

very, very close. so, anything he would have told this alexander downer, who is the top australian diplomat would probably have been referred anyways to our intelligence community. and that is george papadopoulos. but this isn't why. according to my sources, this was just part of a bigger piece of a puzzle. the russian dossier. the dossier that was put together by christopher steele, that dossier in particular was really what spurred this investigation. i believe george papadopoulos' statement. i mean it's a lesson learned people say. you share information at a bar. but it's also significant. remember, back in 2015, is when the fbi warned the dnc that their computers had been hacked. so it wasn't like george papadopoulos had some kind of exclusive information. people were already whispering about this and he could have been very braggadocious about this. we don't know yet. or he could have had some insider information. that, we don't know yet. robert mueller has that information. pete: save, to george papadopoulos, the point has been made and needs to be

made again. he attended one short meeting in march of 2016. he was never told he could represent the campaign to anyone else. so he was not -- even the word aide to the campaign is generous. does this not feel like an attempt, potentially, to cover up the dossier or distract from the dossier's role in starting the fbi investigation? i mean, this all looks little funny. >> yeah, pete. it's a significant point. because, that's exactly what people are thinking now. think are going to try to look at all the evidence outside of that dossier to try to build up a case publicly. and, you know, especially sources that really wanted to go after trump and the trump campaign. we still have not seen any evidence of collusion whatsoever. i mean, this is what is really significant here. if robert mueller, if the special counsel has evidence of collusion, we still have not seen that at all. according to the people i have spoken with in the fbi, this goes way back to last year. there still is no evidence of collusion. and that's what they are looking for, right? so there is no evidence here.

to create more jobs inside the united states. but also small businesses are able to flourish because he creates policies that allow all americans to flourish. not just a certain segment of americans. pete: eric, we know this president ran on immigration, but the immigration system in this country is very broken for a number of reasons. so you say he set the table in 2018 to revamp that system? >> yes. i mean, i was really pleased to see during the campaign, of course, we talked about building the wall. we have had reduced rates of immigration coming across the border since he has taken office, because, again, you know, it worked. deterrence works. at the same time, we need to have a real common sense immigration policy and i was very pleased to see his tweet the other day when he said we are not just going to give up any form of amnesty unless we are going to crack down with sanctuary cities and start to build the wall. those are what he ran on. and, finally, we have a president that, you know, promises and delivers. that's what we have in president trump. rachel: all right. now, he also ran on backing law enforcement and bringing

two demonstrators shot and killed overnight. peter: the nationwide anti- government rally turning more violent by the day as military forces vow to fight back. rachel: we are live in washington with more. garrett? reporter: good morning you all. these protests are growing spreading across the country for the last three nights thousands have taken not streets to protest their government and the state of their economy. last night, thousands of young people marched through the capitol city and clashed with police who tried to end the demonstration. you can see in this video posted on social media. some of those protesters throwing rocks and setting cars on fire. in a separate protest about 200 miles southwest, demonstrators cheered as they ripped down a sign of the country's supreme leader and later, set a government building on fire. two protesters were killed in those clashes with police and officials say at least 50 people have been arrested since thursday. the protests have been spreading in part thanks to videos being posted on social media; however

today, the iranian regime took steps to rack down on that by blocking access to instagram and the popular messaging app telegram which has been used to plan many demonstrations. telegram ceo confirmed the move this past hour on twitter saying iran authorities are blocking access to telegram for the majority of iranians after a republic refusal to shutdown an activist and other peacefully protesting channels. these new rounds of protest are the largest to hit the islamic republic since 2009 following the country's disputed presidential election and are a result of the struggling economy despite billions of dollars going into the country after the signing of the nuclear deal that economic activity has not done much to improve the lives " average iranians. back to you all. rachel: thank you garrett and these protests are the protests we saw in iran, the so-called green revolution in 2009 where president obama at the time took a very hands off approach as we

border patrol agents and they love him for it. pete: you're right to that point also the evidence is in front of us illegal border crossings are down 24% since he's taken office now he's dedicated to building a wall. there is the statistics right there. the number of crossings that's without a wall. he wants to build a wall. tell us why that physical barrier is still important because in the military we were told that if you have an obstacle it's not effective unless you're over watching it as well. a combination of a wall and agents seems to be the right mix well you have to have the combination of infrastructure and agents. you know if you have the wall, and you have people that are crossing the wall if you don't have the agents to actually arrest them that wall isn't any good but what we've seen and you look at yuma, look at san diego, arizona, what we've seen is when we put you'll physical barriers and man those with the right number of agents we become extremely effective and those numbers those illegal crossings will go down even further and

the american public will notice that we don't have the crime and the problems we've had from illegal immigration that we've seen in the past and so again, what he's doing is historic and it's absolutely fantastic for the american people. rachel: so much of the talk about the border and the wall is about humans crossing and sort of the immigration problem that we've had over the last 20 years but i think one of the things that's not talked about enough and maybe you want to expand on that is drugs and crime. i live in the midwest. our communities are being devastated by drugs. how is that making a difference for the american people even if you aren't somebody who has a family member who is illegal? >> well crime is like water. it takes the path of least resistance. if we don't have the barriers that are necessary, the opioids are going to continue to flow into this country freely. all we have to do is look at big bend and a sector in texas where we have all of these crossings that are taking place because we've never put up any

pelosi will not be in charge? >> yeah, i don't think nancy pelosi will ever be speaker of the house again whether they win or they don't. we saw the writing on the wall with some of her members over the last year saying that she may not be the best thing for their parties branding and i think we're going to see that play out in 2018 regardless. peter: and 2018 as all these house and senate races are going on is when we would start to see maybe some prominent democrats going out in the closest races, democrats who might have their eyes on the white house in 2020, do you think we'll see the field of trump challengers grow or shrink? >> i do and i think it's good for the democrats that it happens. peter: get bigger or smaller? get smaller. anyone whose anyone right now in the democratic party is running for president and i think you'll see people like governor cuomo in new york get bashed by the right and left in his re- election battle and for good reason you'll have people younger maybe look at other options, have people older perhaps reconsider their plans. peter: so a mayor that most of america does not know you think

rachel: we also said the stock market added more than 6 trillion since he took office, unemployment hits a 17-year low and tell us what can we expect for the new year? >> trish: well it's certainly setting the stage for good things. rachel: sure is. >> trish: i have to tell you like many times throughout my career i've gotten nervous when the market starts to get at these high levels. there's nothing out there right now guys except for maybe perhaps on the geo-political front that would make you say i'm really nervous because the fundamentals for the first time in wow, like a decade, are improving. economic fundamentals are improving and by that i mean the job market wages are going up a little we need them to go up more but overall things are looking better so it's certainly setting the stage for a really good year. pete: right now, it's near 25,000 on the dow. do you think it could go higher but rachel made the point an important one that some people are impacted by the stock market but a lot of regular americans are not they're looking for jobs , wages, companies to come back. give us your predictions on both

fronts, stock market and jobs? >> trish: so i think the stock market could go significantly higher talking maybe 30,000 i'm hearing predictions of that on the dow by year-end and that's important, fueled by these tax cuts because basically they don't have to turnover as much money to the federal government and as a result they have better earnings which makes their price to earnings valuation that much better and that will send stock prices higher. you know, in terms of the overall economy i hear you because one of the most frustrating things i think about the market in the last say eight years is that while it gained, every day americans were really not benefiting from that in that they were struggling with jobs et cetera until we got increasingly into what i call an hour glass economy where the middle class is getting very squeezed and a lot of people falling into the bottom and you had this group on the top that was benefiting because they had capital, money, they could invest in the stock market but they didn't have money forget it interest rates were absolutely fueling it. rachel: but are real americans
