>> i was going to say moving to 9:00 pm and what a great idea that was but everything on the show turned out, we are back at 5:00 so i had to change it. i call this year the great disconnect, the difference between what people are feeling and how things are unfolding. a lot of people feeling emotional about every day being so different in the news so fast some people think it is the end of the world of his think it is the greatest thing ever but when you divorce the feeling from action it is a pretty good year. stock market is up, unemployment down, isis destroyed, a lot of good things happening. like a solid year. it is a solid part of the year versus this chaotic emotional sense people are dealing with. >> no one has any idea what is going on. what is your biggest story? >> the turning back of isis.

if you look at 2016 especially what was happening to young women in the middle east, raped, tortured, wholesale destruction in that area and with rules of engagement changing and other countries pitching in to help, isis not dead by any means but certainly without its territory anymore. the most consequential story of the year. >> i was going to go with the launch of the daily briefing. what do you think? >> no question the hashtag me too people has changed so much, really tumultuous time but people say to me they are living in crazy times, things are wild. like a roller coaster ride just to go through life, pick up the paper, some people tell me they

can't -- they want to listen to music. >> these voices in your head? >> donald trump's inauguration was huge, big change in terms of public attitudes on healthcare, obamacare is popular, those are big changes. >> the popularity of obamacare. what do you think? >> i would have said isis. i concur with my esteemed colleague. when i talk to people about politics and what is going on in the world they talk about such an important issue, i wish we heard more about this, such a tremendous turn around and the rules of engagement but besides that the economy too, in terms of job numbers and moving forward. >> can i throw in of the level?

midterm election year and take something all across the administration effort, to ease the way for people to adopt children. foster care program, able to take care of them. the way to adoption is quite cluttered and there are regulations that could change, the federal government to help improve on that, it is way down, couples love to adopt children from all over the world but all these rules put in place and donald trump possibly working with the first lady could turn that around and it would be worthwhile. hillary clinton as secretary of state would have done something more in that realm but she never did and this is an opportunity to make a difference, very pro-life policy that could bring
