♪ >> kimberly: i am kimberly guilfoyle with juan williams, jesse watters, dana perino and greg gutfeld. it's 5:00 in new york city, and this is "the five" ." a breakthrough on immigration. a big meeting today at the white house between president trump and leaders of congress on both sides of the aisle. the american people got to witness this one, and it was pretty extraordinary. the president allowed cameras to rule for more than 45 minutes as he and lawmakers negotiated how best to reach an immigration deal. he is now open to an agreement coming into phases. first addressing young immigrants and border security with broader issues to be

settled later. >> what about a clean daca bill now with the commitment that we go in to a comprehensive immigration reform procedure. >> i think that's what dick is saying. we are going to do daca and then we will start on phase two. comprehensive. i think a lot of people would like to see that. i think we have to do daca first. >> kimberly: the president thinks legislation should be a bill of love and offered to take any heat for blowback. >> 62% of the trump voters support a pathway to citizenship for the daca kids if you have strong borders. you have created an opportunity here, mr. president, and you need to close the deal. >> if we do this properly, daca, you are not so far away from comprehensive immigration reform and if you want to take it that further step, i will take the

heat. i don't care. i will take the heat. i will take all the heat you want to give me. i will take the heat from the democrats and republicans. my whole life has been heat. i like heat, and a certain way. >> kimberly: there is one thing he's not willing to compromise on. >> any agreement without the wall? >> no. you need it. you need the wall. i'd love not to build a wall but you need the wall. i will tell you the i.c.e. officers and border patrol agencies, they say if you don't have the wall, in certain areas obviously that are protected by nature, if you don't have a wall, you cannot have security. you can't have it. it doesn't work. >> kimberly: did you love it? the wall. >> dana: absolutely fascinating. being in d.c., a lot a meetings are like that behind the scenes and then afterwards both sides go to their own cameras and microphones will they take turns

and they are much more partisan and airplane to their base. what this did was it was like watching a city council meeting on local access television but you are actually in the cabinet room with the president and abide -- and bipartisan lawmakers who didn't know this was going to happen. what i thought was interesting as everyone was there a new -- i knew what they were talking about. one thing dianne feinstein try to do is, she suggests let's do a clean daca bill and the president said that's great and mccarthy said that wouldn't include security. it's a little risky to be openly negotiating like that but i thought it was amazingly refreshing. a lot of the hardliners, when it comes, especially to dreamers and daca have backed off. above the falls, front page story on "usa today" included three quotes on the front page from pretty hard-line immigration group saying if we need to do amnesty for children who were brought here illegally and it's not their fault, congress won't have any problem

from us. the president is really at this opportunity where he could do something. what lindsey graham was saying is that your voters actually want you to do this but we are going to need you to take the heat. the president says he's willing to do so if the right, coming after us and primary us because we are going to vote or something that makes common sense. it's a far cry from where we were on the campaign trail when it comes to immigration but i think if you can get to a good solution, let political bygones be bygones and get it done. >> kimberly: jesse, the wall. >> jesse: looked like a very stable genius out there. i like boardroom trump almost as much as i like rally trump. he used this line, when he said fire and fury. when he goes like this, i think everything under is under control. he is like the martini that gets everybody talking. he drove a lot of momentum in that meeting. i've never seen that kind of

wheeling and dealing among both sides like that ever before. it was an incredible scene to watch. the cornerstone of the deal is chain migration, lottery, the wall, and merit-based. that's what trump wants. the left wants daca, the clean daca vote. trump almost fell for it and then got rescued. we are not going to do the daca deal unless we get border security. the wall will be built. chain migration is ridiculous. what we want to hire someone from h.r., we don't call k.g. and say is your uncle in h.r.? that's not how we do it. i don't know why america doesn't like that. i don't know why we are playing chance with the immigration system. merit-based, he said that's what canada does. i thought the liberals love canada. we want to emulate their health care system. let's emulate their immigration system. i think the democrats are squarely. if they get anything clean, i

don't trust they are going to commit to marriage, lottery, or the wall. that's what you have to do it all at once. trump says he's ready to take the heat. he loves heat. he loves it. >> kimberly: almost as much as the wall. juan, what did you make of this in terms of the objects? giving the american people a front row seat to how these negotiations go and calling out people, like what are they support above. and probably showcasing his intelligence and dealmaking skills. >> juan: genius stability. i think this is something that's been evident. i've written about this. it's pretty evident donald trump has opened the door to a deal, a conference of deal, because he's the one who said march is the deadline for the dreamers to have a deal. and said to the democrats let's make a deal. he's been talking in hard terms, as jesse was suggesting, about the wall, about chain migration. and these things, the wall, it's not going to just happen.

not only are the democrats not in the mood for it because they think it's ridiculous but the dreamers have been attacking nancy pelosi as she was speaking in san francisco, saying we are not a bargaining chip. why are you doing this? they held off in december. now we have it front and center. the key here is that trump wants a deal. he says what we have in common is both sides want a deal. the problem and dealing with donald trump, the great businessman negotiator, is when you come to the nitty-gritty, the fine points, he is lacking. he doesn't know the fine points. he knows we want a deal, so let's make a deal. now, the problem going back to george w. bush in '06. coming forward with obama and a gang of eight, in '16 if i'm right. you get the far right tough show people saying oh, my god. this is amnesty. this is amnesty. if you want to come in the country, get to the back of the library these people should be thrown out. like you are going to throw 12 million people out.

now they say it's a matter of law. they broke the law. they are bad people. the conversation devolved. i think that's what trump is going to have to experience. he says he will take the heat but even for a stable genius, jesse, it's going to be a lot of heat coming from the right. >> jesse: he loves it and he's dealt with at his whole life. >> juan: i am all for it because i think you would be taking heat principally from the freedom caucus and the sean hannity world. >> jesse: and immigration plan with love and he can get away with things of been like that because he talked about taking out all the bad hombres. >> juan: you have 200,000 all salvadorans who were here as a matter of a voucher, some kind of benefit because of the chaos in el salvador and then apply the same standard to the haitia, nicaraguans. he has alienated just about everybody south of the border. and i don't know if now he's willing to alienate his hard

right supporters. >> kimberly: let's not alienate greg on our border. >> greg: i was about to go to another show. i left it when he called it a bill of love. that explosion you heard afterwards was ann coulter's head. donald trump is going to make a deal. he is working the assumption that if you are for trump you will accept any kind of trump therein. i happen to believe he's right. when you saw today, and i don't think you can underplay what you saw today. what you saw today was something no president really has done. this is the most transparent presidency will ever see. i can't say that because we haven't seen what's going to happen next when the robots are running our country but he's a human cannonball. he jumps in, makes the biggest noise, makes the biggest splash. he figures out what everyone can agree to disagree on or agree not to do.

>> juan: this is a fox news alert. bombshell revelation involving the trump dossier. a lawyer for the founder of fusion gps says someone has been killed as a result of the publication. this development is part of a newly released testimony coming from the senate committee interview with fusion officials. chief intelligence correspondent catherine herridge joins us right now. thanks for being here. what can you tell us? >> this transcript is over 300 pages long. i have one section here that relates to the claims that you are referencing. it really is the kind of transcript you need to read a couple times to get your arms around but in the course of the interview, the lawyer, joshua leedy, makes the claim that after the dossier was made public a year ago this month by buzzfeed, that someone was

killed as a result but he doesn't provide further information as to who that individual was and how it was somehow connected to the publication of the dossier. >> juan: we are hearing that the fbi had a source inside the trump campaign even as the dossier was being prepared and it therefore lead them to think that some of the information about it what's credible. >> glenn simpson, who you see on the screen there, he testified that the british spy christopher steele who put the research together for the dossier went to the fbi in july, late september and early october, just before the presidential election because he felt he was witnessing a crime in progress based on the information he had about these alleged russian contacts. in the transcript, len simpson tells the investigators that steele shared with him that the belief, the source inside the

trump campaign. there has been a fair amount of pushback. sources close to simpson have told nbc news as well as "the washington post" that what he really meant was that the fbi had intelligence from the australians and itch related to the trump campaign aide george papadopoulos who pled guilty to lying to the fbi and that's quite different than what's in the transcript. >> juan: thank you so much. we appreciated. kimberly, what you make of the idea that what we know from this releases that simpson, glenn simpson, head of fusion gps, want to this released because he said republicans have been trying to undermine the investigation into trump and the russians. >> kimberly: i think this is pretty much a bombshell. i don't know if they saw this coming, what the repercussions could be of a situation like this. there's been been criticism where people have said why are we continuing to cover this or

why are we continuing -- wait a second. we should cover it. we should taste on the facts the details, and when you do, you find out information like this. it doesn't look good. it helps the president in terms of what he was saying about the optics of this and what the motivation was and that people were trying to get after him and do some harm to his reputation, his campaign, potential presidency. it is like a spy movie. it's incredible. >> juan: greg, what do you make of it in terms of the idea, they say that according to fbi sources, according to the dossier sources, the kremlin potentially was feared to be able to blackmail trump. >> greg: i think that's what the kremlin does with just about anybody. i can't get worked up about it. if you don't like trump, then steele is a whistle-blower. if you don't have a problem with trump, steele comes off as a crank. i don't feel we've moved anywhere on this. i think the last thing america

is that you have a special counsel investigation is ongoing. then you have the house and senate both ongoing. it's super confusing. then you have the testimony from fusion gps and then an op-ed in "the new york times" written by those people, simpson and i can't remember his partner. saying they wanted the transcript released but they knew it was going to be in there, that somebody was killed. nobody wants anybody else to get killed. it's impossible for us to just wait for a conclusion from the special prosecutor. i understand that but i think it would behoove us to do so. >> juan: i am saying right now a lot of people, especially on the right, say this dossier has been proven to be scurrilous, to have no value. what you have now is simpson at gps and others, and democrats on the committee led by feinstein say we wanted out because you will see the fbi believes a

great deal of this information. if you look at people like carter page going over there and giving speeches for money. coming back, george papadopoulos connection, information from australia. it sounds like they have reason to believe the dossier. >> jesse: i read all 300 pages, juan. i am an expert on the dossier that i will break it down for you. the headline that jumps out at me is that comey and hillary paid a foreign agent for dirt on trump. this guy was paid by the fbi. the fbi has been denying this. now we have glenn simpson saying this guy was paid. that's a pretty big deal to me. this guy is getting paid by hillary. double billing the fbi and shopping the trump dirt to the mainstream media. now people are dying. >> juan: i think the fbi didn't say they paid him. >> jesse: they said they didn't. now you have him telling the investigators he was paid. someone is dead.

would be a big plus. even donald trump said oprah winfrey would be his number one choice for a vice presidential candidate, this is going way back. my sense is, you asked a great question, dana. people normally go opposite of the person in office. you think of obama as stable and a genius, they went to trump. and i think if they are looking after comp, the question is are democrats of the trying to fight the last war by picking out someone with great celebrity and great charisma. to me, as an american people, we want someone who is policy experience, political experience, who can make us feel safe in the world. >> dana: talk about polar opposites. roseanne barr is coming back to tv and just broke news about her iconic character. she is a trump supporter. that's next.

>> greg: a math professor at brooklyn college claims merit-based education, rewards linked to hard work and talent is a tool of evil whiteness. in an article, laurie rubel says colorblindness holds back minorities because it doesn't admit racial strife still exists. according to campus reform, the teacher recommends injecting social justice issues into actual math lessons. i came up with an example. sally is carrying six ski masks to entity for rally. she and quarters -- encounters four evil white male who steals two. how many does she have left? answer: you are racist. even social justice might not be enough. they think effort leads to reward. such conclusions turn a real problem into a bigger one. to deem achievement based reward is a racist that certain students can't handle actual

having worked for many years as a prosecutor in los angeles and san francisco. i worked hand-in-hand with some of the finest men and women in law enforcement. today is national law enforcement appreciation day and it's a day when we honor and appreciate the great people who put their uniforms on every day to protect and serve and keep our communities and children safe. there are several ways, we have suggestions for you. in case you want to show some appreciation. where blue clothing. send a card to support your local police department. participate in project blue light. those are a few ways. you can do what i do. they seem to like a hug and kiss here and there. >> greg: their wives don't. >> kimberly: the men and the women. hug them. that was part of the segment.

>> juan: just before christmas there was a very touching story out of dallas that i wanted to mention. the middle school decided to have a father-son event, the first of its kind in the school and the school is predominantly made up of low income and minority students. they ran into a hurdle. they were concerned many of the young men did not have father figures in their lives to bring to the event. so they put out a call to dallas area meant a stand-in for the missing dads. they expected a dozen or so to respond. 600 men showed up. here are photos of this amazing event. you can see them talking with the young men but also touching things like here's how you tie a tie and pledging they will be mentors to these young men. my heart goes out to those men in dallas. so needed, so necessary, so
