>> the police finding out it was just a drill. but it took 38 minutes from when the first push notification was sent so there was an inbound ballistic missile coming to hawaii from when the new message was sent out so there is no danger to the state of hawaii. the governor of hawaii and head of the emergency management wrapped up a press conference about half an hour ago. they said this was the result of human error. someone doing an internal drill at the wrong button on the screen which allowed for these messages to be sent. not only did they hit the wrong button upon to came up and they hit yes again. that's why everyone got the messages. >> there was no automated way to send a false alarm cancellation. we had to initiate a manual process. that is why it took a while to notify everyone. >> the consequence of this is bad. we work so hard to get this in place. again, this is a mistake. but don't let that stop us.

holding a president trump getting briefed on the situation he's spending the weekend in florida. phil is reporting from west palm beach. where was the president when this went down? >> president trump was at his golf club just on the street enjoying 18 holes of golf and discussing china, nafta and trade in general with his u.s. trade ambassador. suddenly the quite terrifying olivia e-mail social media cell phone went out to everybody that subscribed on the island of hawaii. a 20 minute false alarm and for those receiving the alerts it took a full 38 minutes for the false alarm to come through. what else could anybody believe other than an incoming intercontinental muscle was on its way to honolulu. very terrifying for anybody who is paying attention to it.

after arriving back in the white house in florida, an official release this short statement. the president has been briefed on the state of hawaii's emergency management exercise. this was purely a state exercise. the pacific command this statement came out from commander david. u.s. has detected no missile threat to hawaii. earlier message was sent in error. there will send out a correction message as soon as possible. this was the alert that first went out this morning. it is 7:00 a.m. hawaii time as people are getting their coffee. seek shelter this is not a drill.
