i have seen top lefty activists and former white house people in the obama administration lark out at the "new york times" and the associated press for accurately describing why the democrats are at fault. howie: there hasn't been as much focus on the fact that republicans weren't willing to do another kick the can funding deal and the democrats said no because of the issue of immigration. juan: you even had an ap headline and it was "democrats derail." i think this came as a surprise. piper said, hey, "new york times," you can do better. the "times" typically on the left is saying democrats are responsible. the alternative version is there have been two continuing

in other words, just like you did for neil gorsuch. republicans have been able to change the rules in the past, why not now. howie: there is so much hypocrisy on both sides. saying it's terrible and the republicans are doing this because they don't like government. guy around mulvaney who was all for the shutdown in 2013. but to go back to the media side of this, i think the frustration you are seeing from dan pfeiffer and "daily coast," and other people on the left, the fact that the media is playing this more accurately. the schumer shutdown is an accurate moniker. the reason you are seeing this

visceral anger on the left is so many people on the democratic side are accustom to coverage in support of their talking points. the talking points are so clearly -- they can't line up to what the democrats typically argue. juan: i disagree. it seems to me there is no established narrative and that's why you see this combat. i think what you have is the white house issuing statements saying things like schumer shutdown. howie: why is that unpresidential? the democrats are saying trump shutdown. juan: i don't think they are saying trump shutdown. republicans control the house, the senate and the white house, and they could have passed a budget and they chose to pass a
