the previous administration under jim comey's lack of leadership at the fbi should have been doing something about this. if they were informed back in may of 2014, don't forget donald trump came down that escalator in june of 2015. what we now know according to rod rosenstein is at the 13 months prior to donald trump getting into the race russians were trying to do something to change the outcome of our election. >> we've also learned that's an effort that continues to this very day. there warning us to keep an eye on the midterm elections. this is not a storyline that will end anytime soon. >> the president was also critical about the fbi and about the mishandling of the tips it received over nicholas cruise.

e-mails. it weakens occlusion argument because you have a major piece of the puzzle when it comes to russian interference something we've heard a lot from democrats and we now know that trump campaign associates were not involved in any willing way. that complicates the narrative for democrats have claimed that trump was potentially colluding. it also complicates the argument that these efforts were to help president trump into the oval office. they did begin more than a year before trump jumped into the race and they wanted discord in the system more broadly. the took the form of supporting the campaign but that was not the ultimate goal. we learn that bernie sanders had suspicions this to get all these

wary of interfering with the election because at the time president trump was describing the election as a rigged system. it could've left as if they're playing into the narrative. at the same time you didn't know the extent of russian interference. this came out more than a year later. >> the eight administration certainly knew, the internet agency in 2013 may reach you at the washington post wrote lester they said the obama administration secretly debated options on how to punish russia. including cyber attacks that might embarrass putin and sanctions i could crater the russian economy. but late december they approved a modest sanctions so narrowly target that they describe the impact is largely symbolic.
