pushing a policy agenda and that's what they were looking for in the guests. it wasn't just one student, colten hob and andrew clyne said the same thing. now shannon bream is next. she can't wait to watch tonight. >> something tells me you're going to bring down the house. love to hear from you. >> thanks. here is what we have coming up tonight. >> breaking news from parkland. the sheriff said there's questions about an armed deputy who stayed outside the school. we'll visit with an outspoken sheriff who met with the president. and the chairman and former police to discuss the fierce defense of the amendment. and going from tax cuts to gun control. sports new message could possibly help them in november.
8:01 pm
>> as president trump plans to turn to food delivery, a fox news at night exclusive. >> welcome. i'm shannon bream. devastated. broward israel describing his reaction to the revelation that one of his deputies assigned to douglas high school never went inside. nra taking the position that more guns may have prevented the attack.
8:02 pm
we have more information tonight. we have cpac in nearby maryland on information about the nra and we begin with the broward county's sheriff deputy. we're learning more. >> how many childrens could have been saved. that's being asked tonight as the south florida community comes to grips with the revolution that the police officer that was charged to watch the building stood outside. scott israel said that scott peterson waited outside the building for four minutes as gunshots were inside. he was with a gun and uniform. after interviewing witnesses, israel suspended peterson without pay and the deputy chose instead to resign.
8:03 pm
>> what i saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of building 12. take up a position. and he never went in. when we in law enforcement arrived at an active shooter, we go in and address the target. devastated and sick to my stomach. there are no words. >> four minutes, the 54-year-old officer waited outside. the shooting lasted six. reportedly the palm beach sheriff's office is protecting peterson. >> and they are continued to be pressed on why they failed to follow up on warning tips. >> that's right, two tips before this shooting by the fbi.
8:04 pm
including january 5th for someone close to cruz who called the center. they said they call center did not follow protocol and did not pass the tip along that this kid was thinking about shooting up a school and not passing that tip to the miami field off. >> let me be clear. there was a mistake made. it is our job to make sure that we do everything in our power to make sure that does not happen again. it is not easy work. i'm not making excuses because what happened was a tragedy. a tragedy. >> now florida's governor, the nra and president trump pummelling the fbi. and public losing confidence in his agency. >> live for us in south florida. thank you so much, brian.
8:05 pm
>> now with thie stunning news. >> good evening, shannon, the nra making comments. wayne the head of the nra democratized those calling for stricter gun control laws, this is after a woke of protests in tallahassee and elsewhere in the country for those calling for gun control measures. lapierre says laws only succeed when people follow them. he said that we leave schools as open targets. he blamed the shootings on what he called the failure of school security and family and mental
8:06 pm
health system and the unbelievable failure of the fbi. the nra says those calling for stricter gun laws are opportunist and exploiting the high school tragedy. >> the opportunist, for them it is not a safety issue. it is a political issue. they care more about control and more of it. their goal is to eliminate the second amendment and our firearms freedoms so they could eradicate all individual freedoms. the shameful tragedy is right out of a playbook on a poisonous movement. >> lapierre is a supporter of the president. he said not even trump's election can change the tide of socialism. the president spent many weeks at the white house posting gun
8:07 pm
conversations. he said he agrees with the nra that there should be armed security at the schools. this is what he tweeted out. specifically he called it highly trained gun adept teachers and coaches. he also tweeted, quote, i'll be strongly pushing background checks with emphasis on mental health and end sale of bump stocks. congress is in a mood to do something on this issue. and he says i hope and that goes further than what lapierre says. he said they're on board for changes. >> they're not going to walk into the school if 20 percent of the teachers have guns. 20 or 40 percent. what i recommend doing is the people that do carry we give them a bonus. we give them a bonus. >> >> what exactly ends up coming out of washington is unclear. perhaps the president will talk
8:08 pm
tomorrow at cpac and anything else he wants to discuss. he's got the floor here. shannon. >> it will be a rousing day this. they welcome him excitedly. thank you so much. all of a sudden the missed fbi tip and then revealing a stunning set of failures. and henderson sheriff charles stewart mcdonald discussing possible solutions to the issue of school violence. >> good to be here. >> let's look at broward county and there was a deputy, he was set up and position outside. according to witnesses and video he they ever went in. this is what sheriff israel had to say. >> when the shooter was still inside the building. >> yes, he was. >> what should have been done. >> went in and address the k l kill
8:09 pm
killer. kill the killer. >> he said this is what should have happened. what is your take? >> officers trained to move through the threat and take care of the situation. it sounds to me this was an officer who was totally overwhelmed by the stress of the situation who evident my wasn't properly trained. something happened that caused him to fail to do an unnatural thing to get in the gunfire. but that's the oath he takes. we hope all officers sign up for when they sign up for the job. it is a tough job. putting a badge on someone doesn't make them adept. that's something we need to be aware of. >> folks trained to be at schools, maybe they like students.
8:10 pm
resource officers don't think they'll face this. they'll think about it every day now. >> i think it changed a lot. back when dare became the program that put offices in schools with kids, they were there for teaching and mentoring and a lot of times the officers that went there were people like you said who specifically were children oriented but not necessarily the guys that would be on the tactical team and working the beat. that was not always the case but that's a lot of it. what happened over the years, the armed guard has followialle the dare officers. we shifted in our thinking from columbine to now. there needs to be more put in to the officers who do have that responsibility to know that -- that they're not there just to mentor kids. their job is a dangerous one. if it happens on their watch, they're usually there by themselves.
8:11 pm
>> they often are. let's talk about your meeting with the president today. he talked about all kinds of things. background checks and mental health and raising the age on long gun purchases and bump stocks. what do you think he talked about may come to fruition. >> one thing i was impressed with, thought it would be a photo op. those guys around the table had great ideas. i could see the president really, a lot of compassion for what happened. but once he sees this momentum to make something half positively. he was very open in the mental health issue which i think has been overlooked. that's serious in this nation. i know it is in north carolina that. people fall through the cracks. we heard from -- from attorney general pam bondy and the commissioner with kentucky state police about some programs they
8:12 pm
had. the fusion centers, gathering information. a lot of good things going on. we heard from the mental health side and ideas they have that they like to see put in place too. the president was adamant about arming the right kind of personnel. i'm one of the few people that goes along with that. it is not giving anybody a gun and hoping they do what they need to do. it is training. i like to say in the skies over this nation, we have armed passengers flying on aircraft all the time. they're called air marshals and nobody knows who they are or where they are. but the fact they're there and don't stand out certainly has been a large contribution since we haven't had hijackings since
8:13 pm
9 9 9/11. >> thank you very much for stopping in town and we know the things the president talked about will be helpful to officers. >> i have hope for that. >> thank you so much. both ahead of the nra and right-wing french marlen la pen addressed cpac and warned good big the government power. >> if the socialist take over the house and the senate and god forbid they give the white house again, our american freedoms could be lost. >> we need to convey our ideal for the media. and the education to stop the domination of the liberals and socialist. >> i thought the speakers generated plenty of controversy today. we talked about it with the chairmen of the conservative
8:14 pm
union. and former advisory to hillary clinton. >> thank you. >> hi. i want to say more of what wayne lapierre had to say and we'll get your reaction. >> their solution is to make you, all of you, less free. then it is just a short hop to the systematic destruction of our most basic freedoms in this country. family, faith, individual responsibility and self-destiny. >> that goes way beyond talking about potential changes about gun laws. he says this is about government control. >> i'm curious what matt thinks. he was there and seen wayne several times. he looks nervous. he says that and not speaking to me as the democrat he's afraid
8:15 pm
of. i think he's talking to matt to reassure him of things. i think what happened in the last week with parkland is unnerving. it should be. he's facing a trifecta that they have in the past which is one polling among republicans that are sky high they want changes. two, they have got this incredibly powerful group of students who -- who are just changing the nature of -- of the debate and three i think they got a president that they're worried about will cave. he's saying, i know the nra and the nra knows me. i think he wants to go further than they're comfortable with. i can see why he's upset. the rhetoric is hardly very -- very you know, grieving or conciliatory. >> you were there, what is your take? >> my take is i'm proud of wayne for coming to cpac and for
8:16 pm
addressing the issue. it would have been easier for him to take a pass and hope passion subsides and to talk about this later. but cpac was here. it is the appropriate thing for the country for us all to put it on the table. in this fight for owhim or law. before we rush to judgment that it is about the guns and about restricting guns, we have to -- we have to have a cooler head. we have to think about what is going on in society. what is going on in society, a turn to violence. a turn to violence unlike we see in societies and countries. there's something wrong with america and the heart and soul of america. we could talk about guns but it is deeper than that. until we talk about the heart, we won't solve this. >> it is a multi-pronged problem. i want to talk about the other
8:17 pm
controversy today for you guys. this is marianne la pen speaking today. here's what she had to say. >> you have succeeded in putting conservatives right back on the political agenda. it is built on what you achieved. so both sides of the atlantic a conserve agenda may prevail. >> conservative here and in europe could be different. i like where you're headed. we need a socialist la pen. help us understand what cpac is thinking. european conservatives are different. >> i think people see too much of my voice and faith. i don't think the problem is i'm not on enough television shows. i'm happy to be on with glen. this is the problem with lingo.
8:18 pm
marion la pen is not a national socialist. she's trying to fight socialism. she used the word conservative over and over. what does she mean? she means the family is the building block of society. she hat personal tragedy of a differen divorce and a single mom, he's pro-life and doesn't believe once there's fetal pain there should be abortions. this is a bold statement. she doesn't believe the welfare state will solve our problems. i wish people would stop attacking people before they sit down and listen to them. she gave a compelling speech. >> ten seconds, anything you like to say? >> i don't agree with anything she said. obviously she's blurring her and lapier lapierre. they didn't gather about guns.
8:19 pm
she's fear mongering and lapierre is feeding off it. this is not what the organization is trying to do. that's the reality. there's stuff going on in the world. i can't disagree more. >> i imagine. sometimes you disagree. thanks for coming on. wisconsin is in the process of overhauling the welfare system. responding to the critics and what happens in the badger state. how it could affect you. and giving gun control a cry as a rallying cry. will it back fire or benefit them. is the mainstream media being truthful about russian collusion. stay with me.

not necessarily everywhere. according to one aide, it is for the going to a top down every state strategy. some places it will work. suburban directs and other places it will not like north carolina that. chris is here to discuss. thank you. >> how you doing? >> this is a tough topic but democrats think it could be a winner in the fall. not everywhere. what do you say? >> this is not like taxes and other economic issues. this is a social issue and it is -- we saw it last night and today, something remarkable. the -- the cable news network cnn had a town hall. rubio and they heap the scorn and they pummel him. and then the nra dehumanizing

his opponents. anybody in favor of changes here is coming for your guns and you should be afraid of them. there is powder kegs underneath this issue. the democrats found out about it when they followed a ban. you do this in a way that upsets voters in rural districts, it has terrible consequences. democrats lost seats in 1994. but on the other side, republicans for the emotionality of this issue, especially with suburban residents and the places where this school is and especially for moms, if the republican continue demonstrate by november they have it doesn' be gun control, but they have to

afi sure had a lot on my mind. my 30-year marriage... ...my 3-month old business... plus...what if this happened again? i was given warfarin in the hospital, but wondered, was this the best treatment for me? so i made a point to talk to my doctor. he told me about eliquis. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. not only does eliquis treat dvt and pe blood clots. eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. eliquis had both... ...and that turned around my thinking. don't stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. don't take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. if you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily... and it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines.
8:32 pm
tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. plus had less major bleeding. both made eliquis right for me. ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you.

8:36 pm
requirements to say if you're able bodied we expect you to be in the workforce or we're going to train you. we expect you're screened for a drug test. people every week or every day tell me they need working adults and people that could pass a drug test. that's what we're doing. >> i want a quote. this is the executive director of the task force. she says it'll create hunger. many will go without food and vilifying low income people is bad policy. >> well she's just wrong on that. we started out originally going with the food stamp program. we helped more than 25,000 people transition from government dependence to true independence. this is born of work. we could do that more for more people. even when it comes to something
8:37 pm
simple as screening for drug testing. we make sure someone fails a drug test, we don't kick them out on the street. we set money aside and resources aside to help with rehabilitation. why? we know we could get them back on their feet and we give them resilience. they need coaching but along the way we could find a job for everyone. that's great to taxpayers and employers that need workers. it is best for the person. ultimately nobody signs a high school yearbook saying good luck. everyone dreams when they're a child of living a life when they can control their own life and their own destiny going forward. that's what we're doing. we're empowering people to live their american dream. >> you know the drug testing element is controversial. it has been tried in other states and floated. here's what the atlantic had to say in an article when this was discussed a couple of months ago. they say states bear high costs
8:38 pm
for drug tests that rarely come up positive. it burdens low income people who have trouble finding time or transportation to complete the tests. >> a lot of red herrings out there. we made it convenient to go through the process. we have an easy screening process. they're looking for excuses to keep people dependent on the government. that's the difference. those on the left want people to become dependent. we see it with welfare and other programs. we believe in the individual and the person, about we give people the support, and those out there that need help with addiction, that's a be problem, if we get them healthy again, there's no reason why people can't get up on their feet again. it is simple. we'll help people down and out, those that are able, we want to get them in the workforce. >> all right, governor, we'll watch as these continue to wind
