11:01 pm
on the florida shooting. an armed deputy quickly arrived on the scene but refused to confront the person. that's helpful and how an alert security officer may have prevented yet another school shooting. and john bolton tells us why china is getting even more bold and dangerous on the world stage. but first, to woo trump and win the 2018 midterm they demonize the nra. that's the focus of tonight's angle. last night at a cnn town hall, marco rubio walked into the lion's den with a fillet mingnon
11:02 pm
in his traffic. >> it's hard to look at now and not look down the barrel of an ar-15 can you tell me you will not accept a dingal -- single donation from the nra in the future >> laura: rubo was gutsy to show up and hear the kids out but wasn't fun and quickly became a punching bag for the crowd and questioners a complete lack of respect from teenagers and adults in the room. >> think of how far you can do as a result of voicing your belief. you can shout me down when i'm finished but as other media networks would have covered it.
11:03 pm
wait a second -- he should not have been able to purchase the firearm. >> laura: naturely the media lap up the nastiness and there was zero criticism of the hecklers who showed zero expect for the people who showed up for real dialogue. maybe get something accomplished. instead the people on the stage walked into a circus. imagine if conservative students would have screamed at senator bill nelson when he made this point. >> did you know the governor's office gave incentives for the colt corporation to come to kissimmee to manufacture ar-15s.
11:04 pm
the same one that wreaked such havoc. >> laura: okay. well what nelson conveniently left out is despite the financial incentives they never moved their factory to florida and think about this, what is so horrible about encouraging manufacturers of legal products to come into your state to create jobs? so is the governor, for instance, offered tax breaks to a distillery responsible for every drunk accident. the a.p., the washington post and others created cardgate. yes, president trump held a card. >> there was a lot made of the
11:05 pm
note outlining the steps of empathy. >> as if the president had to be reminded to sympathize. >> there was a photo of the note he had brought to speak to the families. >> this is how desperate the press is. the president hold an unprecedented conference with teachers and students and survivors and something they would have begged president obama for and i should have hoped the president would have walked into an event like this, very prepared. if they had no notes they'd say he just winged it and doesn't care about the kids. the anti-gun activists have every right to pitch to ban weapons but they're not flighted to their own facts. they routinely claim, for
11:06 pm
instance, the nra is against background checks. it hit is wayne la pierre at cpac. >> they originated the check system. it was our bill. no one on the prohibited person's list should ever have access to a firearm. no killer, no felon, no drug dealer. >> my friend jake tapper didn't focus on that the president tweeted his support saying the people who work hard at the nra are great patriots and love our country and will do the right thing. well, this send the low-brow lefties into paroxisms of outrage because they want our young people to think of the nra as a reprehensible blood-thirsty
11:07 pm
organization who in the words of one killed on cnn, terrorists. >> the talked about emotions -- >> the nra bought politicians to say that. >> laura: again, i cannot stress this enough, the democrats and their leftist enablers are desperate to distract you from all the good news that's happening around us think about this a new poll out tells us 45% of americans are satisfied with our standing in the world. that's a 13-year high and 13 percentage point increase from just a year ago. small business confidence is way up, the economy is strong, and so all the democrats can do in response is to create new boogeyman. now it's the nra. for a year, they've tried to
11:08 pm
peddle contempt for president donald trump and today his approval numbers are higher than when he was elected. the generic republican against democrat ballot tightening. some have the gop now within three points of the democrat. the democrats led by double digits two months ago. sure, the country still has problem, drug addiction and violence in baltimore and the spread of ms-13 and now we know the need to improve the school safety but generally things are getting better. they're getting better for more persons and this is driving democrats absolutely bonkers. so much so they're willing to exploit the pain of the young douglas stone survivors. i'd like to say i'm surprised but i'm not.
11:09 pm
many on the left have been doing this doing this kind of thing for decades. and they've tried to convince the people, the citizens to sacrifice their individual rights, they're basic freedoms for the common good. a few more taxes here, a few more regulations there, and now they want to water down the second amendment on the false promise to do so will be an end to all the school killings. we won't have school killings anymore but i say we should be very careful here. administrative state wants to take away guns using tragedies as excuses because they don't want the private individual to have personal power. as ben franklin once wrote, those who would give us a sense of liberty for temporary safety
11:10 pm
deserve neither nor liberty nor safety. that is the "ingraham angle . " it's good to see you eric, first time on "the ingraham angle" since we started. what's your sense about what's happening out there today? your dad had an incredible event at the white house yesterday and the vitriol and vial he received at the other end is tough. >> i'm proud of him. it's the toughest subject. i just had a 5-month-old child and a can't imagine being in the same room. this country is doing great on a relative basis. the economy is through the roof, unemployment is lower than it's ever been before and african american unemployment is the
11:11 pm
lowest it's been and the jobs are coming back and 401(k)s are up and the vets are being helped and isis is almost gone and democrats will use anything they can to take him down because they're afraid of they'll successes. i'm not saying something doesn't need to take place over the tragedy that's happened but my heart breaks. anything they can undermine the man you saw the russian hoax, it's sad and not beneficial nor country. >> laura: the obsession over the card he wrote in his hand, in the reagan administration, if it was impromptu we would give notes. they're saying your father doesn't care. he doesn't know how to show emotion. he's not the comforter and chief obama or clinton or bush was.
11:12 pm
and you say? >> anybody who watched the town hall when they're seeing the emotion from the parent and teachers and one of the -- >> laura: they're saying your father doesn't have that emotion. that's where they are. >> i think you saw the emotion and if you read the points, they're beautiful points. i want to hear you. i want to know the feelings each of you have because the feelings have you sitting in that room while the shots were taking place -- he was amazing yesterday. he was amazing yesterday and a was proud of him and frankly i think it's the first step in healing a nation that's deeply troubled by what's happened. >> laura: do you think we should raise the age of when someone can buy semiautomatic rifles. >> i'm a big second amendment american but i also think something has to be done. it's sad to see what's happening. i'm a big fan of background checks and other things.
11:13 pm
i also think there's a systematic problem in society that has to be addressed. how do you solve -- and i've struggled with this the last couple days. how do you solve the problem of evil in society. that person was not right. >> the security cameras were not operating in real time. they were on a several minute delay. a 10-minute delay or longer and the security guard that was armed -- >> those are the lay-ups but how do you solve evil in society. i think we need to do a better job as parents and in society and on social media. i think we need to do a better job mentoring our youth. there's so many aspects. i think there's common sense things that can be done and i also think there's societal problems. >> laura: we didn't have this problem when i grew up. we had more guns in connecticut when i grew up and fire drills.
11:14 pm
something's changed between the late '70s and early '80s and today. i don't know if legislation can change that. you guys have been getting a lot of heat for your brother's travel to india and business he's doing there. he gave a speech on indo-american relations and you're getting hammered. bob menendez said i'm concerned, mr. trump, your brother's speech, will be mistaken he'll be communicating official american policy and the presence in india will have no role in supporting mr. trump during his time in india new york magazine and the rest of the nasty comments about this. any conflict there given the business interests there on policy -- >> what don't we get hammered for? my brother was over there. we have a bunch of building in india. he's talking how the indian

people are wonderful people and enjoyed the experience and then have you this. these the first people that say the first amendment should be protected until you say something they disagree with and then they want to rip you to shreds. we've been there many years and there's little we can do we don't get attacked from and you were talking about it in your open. i think you did so beautifully. there's nothing we don't get attacked for because quietly the democrats don't have their own platform and no good leadership or ideas or good bench of candidate. they're petrified by people having money in their pockets they attack our kids, our wives, jared and ivanka. they do everything to undermine our family because it's the only
11:16 pm
move they have. >> laura: you have somebody internally -- >> and we take it seriously. we take that so seriously. >> laura: you're under the micro scope so you have to take it seriously. manafort and there's new charges the concern is trying to squeeze manafort to expose trump in the never-ending investigation. what do you think it's interesting? >> with russia they dug and dug and findly -- finally found themselves and you hear how crazy about the dossier paid for by the same people and they dug so deep they found themselves. everything came full circle. i was in the campaign and he had nothing to do with russia and he
11:17 pm
worked hard and sold the better message and the american people wanted a business man not a career politician. it had nothing to do with russians. there were no russians. it's a nonsense. the whole thing has been a hoax and they caught themselves in the process. i hope justice department -- i hope they do something about it. >> laura: is jeff sessions doing enough to investigate the obama administration's involvement with pushing that phony dossier knowing who funded it and knowing what was behind it and who was behind it? >> i don't know but i hope he is because it's sad and disgusting and so many fact have come to light and they're bad facts. they're bad facts for the other side. it's deeply troubling. we better be doing something about it otherwise there's a lot of unjustice in the country. >> laura: we have a lot of unmasking of american citizens done by individuals and we don't know on what grounds. >> i'd love to see the list of who the individuals were. >> laura: you might have been, who knows. >> i wouldn't be surprised.
11:18 pm
>> laura: are you happy you stayed in the business world and -- people ask me all the time and i know i'm doing the right thing now but you see what your father goes through and he could be doing anything and he's doing this. >> he made a tremendous sacrifice in his own life and half of me would like to be by his side fighting with him and that's the family we are and he's an amazing man and incredible president but at the same time i love building buildings and i would love to be there protecting him every day but he's doing a good job and making me very proud. >> laura: what i don't like is when people say he doesn't care about the people. you know who whom. he doesn't care about the blanking people. >> he did this for one reason, for the people. they were being forgotten. they were being left behind. government was walking all over them and every day when walked down the street i hear from
11:19 pm
those people, tell your father we say thank you. he's doing an amaze job for this country and thank you for taking the punches you do as a family for each and ever one of us and that keeps us going. >> laura: thanks for coming in. good to see you. many have wondered why the armed guard irk -- eric and i talked about at the florida high school didn't enter the building and the answer's shocking. that's up next. we have more to tell you about how an alert officer actually -- looked like he foiled another shooting and what we can learn from i was out here smoking instead of being there for my son's winning shot. that was it for me. that's why i'm quitting with nicorette. only nicorette mini has a patented fast dissolving formula. it starts to relieve sudden cravings fast. every great why needs a great how. every great why thisat red lobsterest. with exciting new dishes like dueling lobster tails

>> laura: there's an absolutely shocking revelation about the florida high school shooting this evening. after a review of surveillance footage from the attack, official detailing how an armed deputy on-duty at the school react to the mayhem. >> what i saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position, and he never went in. >> was he there when the shooter
11:24 pm
was inside the building. [indiscernible] . >> kill the killer. [question indiscernible] >> minutes. i think he remained outside for upwards of four minutes. >> laura: the shooting lasted six minutes before the killer fled the scene. that deputy has now resigned. a high school junior survived and they attended the listening session at the white house. it's good to see both of you. thank you for joining us. i know how difficult this situation has been though we can't really understand it and what you've all gone through. you were amazingly poised yesterday, ariana at the white house event. i watched every minute of it and i know the country is rallying and your reaction to this news that we just learned a few hours
11:25 pm
ago about how the security detail who had a weapon, didn't enter the building. you're reaction to that? >> well, as a father and thank you for having us, it's maddening to hear that news. when you put your faith in the law enforcement to act and protect your children and then they fail to act, it's just inexcusable. it highlights the other failures that led to this tragedy and contribute to the tragedy which is the breakdown at the fbi and failing to act on the tips and i think people need to be held accountable. this deputy's apparently been held accountable but we need to continue to look at who failed to act in this circumstance. >> laura: also in the investigation they found out the security camera footage that i guess the officials on the scene at the time were reviewing, was
11:26 pm
delayed. so they weren't getting real-time information about what was happening inside the building. there was a several minute delay so they were reacting to things that already happened which kind of defeat the purpose, don't you think? arianna your reaction. >> i think it's disgusting a police officer was on campus and knew his job and for him not to enter the building where innocent children were being shot is disgusting. i think in regards to the technology department and the fact that the security footage was 20 minutes delayed should never have happened. that's one of the simple issues everyone can agree needs to be fixed. we need to be proactive instead of reactive. we can't have the security footages being looked at after the matter. >> laura: last night at the big
11:27 pm
cnn event there were a lot of raw emotions. one student who wanted to attend but didn't attend because he was upset to him it seemed like his question was being scripted for him and spoke tonight on tucker's show. let's watch. >> they took what i had wrote and wrote the question for me. >> but not with your words. they put their words in your question. that seems dishonest. >> it definitely did and why i didn't go last night. originally i thought it was going to be more of my own question and turned out to be more of just a script and she said that over the phone i need to stick to the script. >> laura: arianna, what's your reaction to that? cnn denies this, by the way, but they have a history of planting questions that michelle malkin and others have written about
11:28 pm
before at other event. but colton hobb who gave that interview was emfattic emphatic about that point. >> laura: the point of the meeting was to hear the kids and for that to happen is inexcusable. our voices need to be heard and he should have been able to ask any question he wanted to have but some networks don't want us to give our real opinions and want us to further their own agendas. >> laura: most of the students, arianna, that'd same opinion what to do to ban certain weapons and trash the nra and be really disrespectful to marco rubio and they all seem to be in agreement as far as i could tell. there was no diversity of
11:29 pm
opinion among the students or anyone else i saw in the audience. >> that's nat -- not surprising at all. i spoke to an cnn producer and he insinuated they were looking for people willing to espouse a certain narrative and taking the tragedy and turning it into a gun control debate. and people talking about gun control don't understand what they're talking about because i'm a republican, i'm a gun owner. i'm a responsible gun owner and it's not about taking away guns from people like me but keeping them out of the hand of people who should not have them or irresponsible or a threat to society. last night when ted deutsche kept repeating his mantra is almost every gun out there and the assault weapons won't accomplish anything along those lines. i agree we need to make headway
11:30 pm
and raise the age to buy a rifle, i agree with the president on that, but beyond that the folks yelling gun control don't have a great grasp on what they're talking about. >> laura: so the cnn producer who called you right after the shooting said specifically what about the way they wanted to produce interviews and so forth? >> as i recall, the producer said we're looking for people who want to talk about the policy implications about what happened in terms of -- she didn't mention guns but in terms of the policy implications for preventing future mass shootings and if you know folks that want to talk about that, we'd like to speak to those people. >> laura: very interesting. arianna and mr. klein, thank you for joining us. you guys were incredible. amazing yesterday.

years where china was congratulated and went to davos and said we're in trade. in reality what they were doing was perpetuating and continuing a system that worked for their benefit but ended up costing jobs in host of the rest of the world. >> >> laura: music to my ears. an administration finally calling out china. and john bolton is a fox news contributor and joins us and give a great talk at cpac. you're reaction to this. notice the reporting on this is getting more and more specific and there's a lot more in the way of journalists now speaking

out against china and doing business there. >> it used to be they stole our patents and turned them into chinese products and discriminated in court systems and now they're demanding western companies behave like chinese companies and conform to political reality and it's a way of taking advantage of the western capital and investment that's come in and david malpass summed it up perfectly they're taking advantage of united states that because just they reached an agreement they follow what they commit to. >> laura: in year 2000 bill clinton standing in the rose garden with allen greenspan and opening up to china, our most favored trade status and predicted all this wonder. a new area of globalization and
