joel said he was the right candidate at the right time in the right district, did his best to run as a moderate democrat painting himself as a conservative democrat. of democrats can rerun this play across the country, do what they did in 2006 under the leadership of howard dean and not moved to the left but make a play towards the center i think they are incredibly competitive at winning back the house. rob: do you think being a moderate democrat would be a better play. >> being a democrat that represents your district and what people are concerned about. and is part of the country people are concerned about economic issues. others will be concerned more about social issues. is republicans have to do, democrats have to find the right candidate that speaks to a certain area. i will say this. we have to be concerned about donald trump's agenda.

i hate to underscore the point but this is trump country. this is not an area democrats should be doing well. there has to be some soul-searching about whether or not donald trump, look at the tax bill, the steel tariffs, are those things connecting with his voters? >> if you look at pennsylvania this was a plus 20 trump district. soul is not that far off base. of tax cuts are not going to be enough for republicans to run on in november they will need another message that will resonate with the voter, failure to do away with obamacare will lead to significant premium increases in november. they need to go back to the drawing board and have something to run on because of connor lamb will put the blueprint out there and other democrats run with it
