>> martha: that's our story for tonight. we'll see you back here tomorrow night at 7:00. tucker carlson is ready to go. have a good night. ♪ >> tucker: good evening and welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." wrapper kanye west has spent four days posting pro trump content on twitter. first, bret baier just had a deeply revealing interview with former fbi director jim comey. during that interview, comey said that it was not central to their quest for a fisa warrant with people affiliated with the trump campaign. speak what you called the dossier unverified, salacious. why would you use that for
5:01 pm
carter page? you lead with it. why? >> that's not my recollection. i don't know the fisa application -- it was part of a broader fact that was laid before the judge. >> there was more than the dossier? >> my recollection is that there was a significant amount about the page and there is probable cause to believe that he was part of it. >> tucker: i don't know it's hiding behind government secrecy again. trey gowdy represents south carolina. he joins us tonight. mr. chairman, thanks for coming on. what did you learn from it? >> a couple of things. page and strzok he would have fired immediately.
5:02 pm
those investigations should have been canned. director comey's recollection is flawed. he needs to get his orders to go back and look at the transcript. we did not miss here, maybe he misspoke, but that's in the transcript. the double standard that he's had for the last couple of weeks still exist. if trump tells any lies at all, it's a remedy for him. >> tucker: martha stewart went to prison for lying. he doesn't remember when he first heard about the steel dossier, is that possible? >> if he learned about it in the fall of 2016, it was already known that the democrats had
5:03 pm
been tipped off on that. whoever briefed him, why would you just say it includes the democrats finishing it? the part of it not being part of the fisa application, why did you use it at all? it was just wrong. it was an indispensable part of the application period. >> tucker: how can he claim otherwise? his first reaction is you can't prove me wrong because you and the rest of civilians are asking these questions and you don't have access to the relevant information. you do, you've seen it. that forms a central part of the request. correct? >> there are three parts of it. this is one of the parts. they lead with it and it
5:04 pm
occupied a disproportionately large part of that. i go back and ask if it wasn't important, then why did you use it? why did you use it and why did you lead with it? >> tucker: lets a strip away the politics so we can see clearly. at the core is the allegation of carter page, the hapless carter page was acting as the former director said tonight, the agent of a foreign power. is that a plausible claim question what do you think any reasonable person can reach the conclusion that carter page is a russian agent? >> it would be tough. i think most people who have any experience with carter page which would include the fbi because they've interviewed him on a number of occasions, you would be more likely to call him a clown than a spy. i don't say that to be disparaging toward him. i spend a lot of time with him. if anyone needed his fifth
5:05 pm
amendment right to counsel, if anyone needed a lawyer, it would be carter page. he's not james bond. he's not jason bourne. it's sad actually. >> tucker: if a top law enforcement official can say with a straight face that carter page is a foreign spy and represents a threat to american national security, he's lying it sounds like. >> i don't call -- i'm probably bias toward law enforcement. go ahead and run it out. the challenge when you're going to spy on american citizens, needs to be more than a lead. you need to have probable cause and make proper representations to the court. the only thing i will tell you is i learned that jim comey has has a definition of the word leaked that no one else has. what he says is a leak as with the rest of us call a felony.
5:06 pm
leaking is disclosing a confidential conversation which is exactly what he did. >> tucker: i'm glad you shared your reaction to this. thank you for coming on. during the interview, comey also had this to say about andrew mccabe. watch. >> he represented himself under tremendous stress after i was fired. i read the ig report as you did and included that he had not been candid. this is what accountability looks like. >> what you said it in the claim case. >> i was the director of the fbi. i should not be calling for the prosecution of people in a case they are not involved in, but i do believe that the ig will likely refer or has referred to a u.s. attorney's office and look at it.
5:07 pm
>> tucker: julian epstein, thanks for coming on. this is about the comey. it concerns all americans. i don't think you can watch this interview and not come away with grave concerns about the civil liberties for all americans. >> i think brett did a wonderful job. new criticisms that have come out, i watched a little bit of coverage on the network was that he wasn't fully revealing about the steel dossier and the fisa application. i think the facts are relevant that it was an investigation. democrats took it over and the fisa application for carter pag page -- he had said that he was
5:08 pm
regularly in touch with russian intelligence. i think the intelligence agencies need more information than we do. i think it's part of an ongoing investigation. >> tucker: i expect to know if you destroy a man's reputation, his livelihood -- as we've done with carter page but you better tell me how it's a threat to national security and he hasn't. >> the point of the matter with comey -- >> tucker: does it bother you that an american citizen has been destroyed on the basis of no evidence of wrongdoing? if you think that could happen to him, it could happen to me. >> a lot of what has come out
5:09 pm
has been to their best interest interests. >> tucker: these are questions that liberals used to worry about. and they've stopped because they hate trump. everything is okay. you should care about carter page regardless of his iq, political affiliation, so this guy -- no one will stand up for him and for what? there is no evidence he did anything wrong. >> they believe they are using him as a dupe. he had that information since 2014 as part of the public statements he's made himself. >> tucker: once you've implied he's working for russia, you better prove he did something wrong.
5:10 pm
>> i think he said as much himself. page end 2014 included that he was in contact with russian intelligence. are you? why would an american citizen be in touch? >> tucker: you must be kidding. the number of foreign until operatives in this city dealing with american citizens including you and me and everyone else is overwhelming. >> what you're going to tell me, this is an interesting conversation. you told me that a russian intelligence agent comes to you and start having regular conversations, you're not going to report that to the fbi? >> tucker: i'm a loyal american, i've done nothing to betray my country. my point is, he has done
5:11 pm
something to betray his country. what we're doing is destroying people for political end and the leftists standing by because they hate trump. i'm telling you we're losing something really important. >> what we're talking about here is an intelligence agency getting a warrant from an article three judge, fisa court judge who believed that there was probable cause. >> tucker: this is all -- none of those are turned down. people like the comey and destroyers of civil liberties like him and all the people are saying it's a secret, learn. >> i'm all for disclosure. >> tucker: you would be as upset, as you should be right now.
5:12 pm
>> there's lots of investigations in the world that have occurred. sometimes it's legitimate, sometimes illegitimate. nobody has said the investigation into carter page as a legitimate. the question that bret was asking comey tonight was when did you know that democrats were sponsoring the investigation? >> tucker: this has been going on for years. look right in the camera and say carter page graduated and did nothing wrong. >> i think you're losing a lot of viewers in this conversation. >> tucker: it's getting scary.

5:38 pm
what does that mean? none of it is defined and it's totally subjective. youtube makes the call and does so with maximum political intent. for example, youtube decided it was inflammatory to question the notion that all cops are racist. if you don't think they are, you're in trouble according to youtube, so his video was demonetized yet videos that suggest that white people are inherently evil will remain on youtube without any restrictions. that's clearly political. the memo makes it very clear where youtube sensors are coming from and explain that the company is committed to the freedom to belong including the resulting benefits of diversity and inclusion. okay, sounds good. what exactly does that mean? again, it's entirely subjective. at one point, the memo declares that any demeaning language against a detective group may result in a video being removed from a site. who are these protected groups?
5:39 pm
according to youtube, refugees are a protected group. let's say you don't like the fact that refugees are being settled in your neighborhood for example. you assume it was your right as a citizen to disagree with government policy. not according to youtube. there will sensor your complaints about what your government is doing and call you a bigot in the process. it's not surprising that one of the trusted flaggers youtube has censored is a southern poverty law center which is an extremist group. it was the splc that slandered the family research council as a hate group and labeled the pulse nightclub shooting a right-wing attack which as you know, it was not. the splc is totally discredited and anyone who spends 5 minutes reading about it comes to that conclusion. yet youtube trusts the
