rob's sister said he will know his dad is a hero. all those men and women today are as well. most-watched, most trusted, most grateful you spent the evening with us. good night from washington. i'm shannon bream. >> tucker: good evening and welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." it is this week, the year anniversary of the beginning of the robert mueller russia investigation. at the end of that period,d, we have discovered there is still no evidence at all of collusion between the donald trump for president campaign of 2016 and the russian government, but mueller's many supporters in washington don't seem to care about that. that's because the investigation was never about russia, obviously. the whole absurd fever dream was always a way for the ruling class to feel better about losing power in 2016. it was a way for them to avoidet thinking about why trump got elected. they never have thought about it. along the way, the investigation's provided democrats with a full year of government-funded oppo research
9:01 pm
and destroyed the lives of a number of people who supported donald trump. those are added bonuses from the democratic perspective. but there have been downsides for democrats. voters are not impressed by the russia story.on it is weird and false and confusing. it has precisely nothing to do with voters' actual lives s or the issues they vote on. w it is a total waste of time for everyone. and yet it's all democrats have. trump is evil, so is russia. w that's the entire progressive program of 2018 summarized in two sentences. if the democratic party had a sermon on the mount, those would be the beatitudes. no wonder their approval numbers are falling. republican congressman todd rokita of indiana has introduced a resolution calling for an end to mueller's investigation or a report within 30 days. he joins us along with fellow republican ron desantis o of florida. he says he may know the identity of the person who spied on trump's campaign for the fbi in 2016. gentlemen, welcome to you both tonight. congressman rokita, first to you. i this resolution would call for
9:02 pm
an end to the investigation or a report summarizing its findings so far. am i misstating that?an >> no, both correct. the fact of the matter is it's been a year. as you say, it's been $20 million and we need to see a report on what evidence he has and absent that evidence, it should wind up within 30 days of the resolution passing. >> tucker: so why wouldn't other members on both sides in the congress want some oversight? s you are constitutionally bound to provide oversight of the doj, so why are you the only person calling for this? >> well, i'm not. matt gates is also calling for it. there's a couple others calling for it. but we need your viewers to call your member of congress and get them on board. you can only have a free republic, as you know, tucker,em if you have transparency and this is exactly what we need. it is a witch hunt. it has gone beyond an investigation, and the only evidence of collusion we found, the only evidence of criminality has been on the democrats. so we are calling on mueller to show his hand or fold the deck.
9:03 pm
>> tucker: even if i believed the president colluded with vladimir putin, i'd be very concerned about this investigation because the parameters aren't clear. the timeline is opaque and it's not clear what the point is. congressman desantis, one of the enduring mysteries of the past two weeks has been this story of a mole or spy within the trump campaign feeding information to the russia investigation. have you any sense who that person might be? >> i do, tucker, but i think that the issue needs to go through the proper channels. i'm not comfortable disclosing who i think it is based on the evidence that i have, but i can say this, the american people deserve an answer. up or down, did the fbi direct somebody to spy on donald trump's campaign? was somebody actively working to undermine his campaign and create the illusion of collusion? and if that's the case, i think that's more serious than the fisa abuse. i think it's more serious than
9:04 pm
rosenstein butchering this whole appointing order with mueller from the beginning. so we need the answer to those questions. they are not giving us the answers right now. >> tucker: they are definitely not. i know you don't want to risk libel by naming someone because this has not been proved in court, but give us a sense of what you are talking about. are you saying someone who worked on the trump campaign fed information to law enforcement? >> so if you look at glenn simpson's testimony from fusion gps, he talked about there being a human source and that was something that was controversial. some people said it was papadopoulos. it's not papadopoulos. the issue is he acknowledges there's a human source. peter strzok, he opens up the counterintelligence investigation the summer of 2016, what does he do the next day? he goes to great britain and hee goes to london and he's meetinge with people. how the heck would you do that if you just opened the investigation that day? h i think in that kind of, the
9:05 pm
london, christopher steele, glenn simpson axis is probably the individual we are looking at. we need to know whether this individual was spying or not. i have grave concerns about it but i think we can get those questions answered when the justice department ponies up the documents. >> tucker: you're absolutely right. are you suggesting or do you believe that this is someone who was pressured into cooperating with the investigation, or someone who freely sent information over about the campaign? >> i think it's the latter, tucker. i think this would be someone, potentially could have been paid by the fbi, like steele was. there was an agreement to pay steele. we need the answer to that. did they pay anybody? yes or no. w did they direct anybody to go to the campaign? yes or no. very easy questions to answer. >> tucker: this is the obama -- i'm sorry, congressman. please go ahead. >> ron desantis is exactly right. we also need to know the relationship between mueller and comey. comey kicked this whole thing off with a bogus fisa warrant
9:06 pm
and what is the relationshipip between mueller and comey? did mueller give comey immunity? does comey think he's above the law?w? where are we going with all of this? that's what needs to be investigated. >> tucker: do you believe, quickly, congressman, do you believe that jim comey has been offered immunity by the mueller investigation? >> i think it stands to reason, and i think the american people deserve to know. >> tucker: that would be shocking. congressmen, thank you both. i appreciate that. i hope you get to the bottom of those. we have a right to know. ted malloch was an informal advisor to the donald trump campaign. in march, he says he was detained at an airport by investigators for robert mueller who took away his cell phone and asked about his ties to roger stone, among other things. he is also the author of the book "the plot to destroy trump: how the deep state fabricated the russian dossier to subvert the president." ted malloch joins us tonight. thank you coming on. >> good evening. >> tucker: when you say you were detained, that's kind of a remarkable story. tell us the circumstances of this.
9:07 pm
>> especially for a yale, oxford henley business school professor to be stopped at an airport, taken into a room and asked questions by the fbi and having their phone then, under a warrant, seized. i write about this in the book as a postscript and my lawyers tell me not to confirm or deny very much about this because i'm still actively participating in this conversation. >> tucker: i don't understand. why would that put you in legal peril if you believe the government overstepped and detained you -- this is at logan airport in boston, right? you're flying in from abroad. they pull you aside, take your cell phone, and ask you questions. you have no lawyer present, is that correct, during this conversation? >> none at all. >> tucker: okay, so how -- why would you be in jeopardy by exercising their first amendment right to explain the truth? >> i have explained it as a postscript to the book and actually detailed it, and i'm told that the fbi is not all
9:08 pm
that happy about that fact. so therefore, i'm not really at liberty to say a whole lot more about where this stands at present. >> tucker: right. give us a sense, though, when you sat down, you had no lawyer. it's generally not advised to talk to the fbi withoutu a lawyer. did they just grab you as you got off the plane? what did you say to them when they did?th >> they had me wait for about 20 minutes, as i say, and then divided me from my wife and then searched my belongings and took me to a separate building to introduce me to two fbi agents who asked me a series of questions. actually it was quite chit-chatty for about 20 minutes. as a fan of the philadelphia eagles, they asked me what i thought of their victory at the super bowl. >> tucker: mm-hmm. that's what they said to mike flynn too during his chit-chatty conversation. [laughs]
9:09 pm
they had a warrant for all of this, i assume, is that right? >> correct. >> tucker: okay. a what did they ask you? >> as i said in the postscript, there were very few substantive questions. some about individuals, what my relationship was to the campaign. they seemed to know all the answers to the questions. >> tucker: did you consider saying "buzz off. i'm not going to answer your questions"? >> i think had they gotten any more aggressive than -- in fact, that would have been the case, but they were fairly benign. i'm a patriotic american. i'm a cold warrior. i worked in the state department. i was the top american in the u.n. in geneva, switzerland, for four years at the end of the cold war. i'm certainly willing to cooperate in any inquiry. i don't think i have much to add. >> tucker: why do you think they wanted to talk to you?
9:10 pm
>> my publisher thinks that they pre-read my book on the plot to destroy the president, which is in fact about the conspiracy -- the first in american history since 1783 and the newburgh conspiracy that tried to overthrow a sitting president of the united states.an >> tucker: hmm. why did they ask you about roger stone? >> i have no idea. i've met roger stone three times. he did write the forward to my new book because we had the same publisher. he gave an address at oxford university about eight or ten weeks ago. and it was a pretty compelling story about what happened in the 2016 election and we had it transcribed.. i had attended that lecture, and we used it as the forward to the book. so maybe they read more into that than is the case. >> tucker: what did they do to your phone? you said they had a warrant for your phone? >> yes. h
9:11 pm
they confiscated my phone. and i'm told it's been returned to me and i should be receivingc it any day.ne >> tucker: they took your phone away? how long have they had it? >> since that day, which was before easter. >> tucker: i would be pretty annoyed. ted, thank you for joining us. i appreciate it. >> good to be with you, tucker. thanks. >> tucker: a democratic congressional candidate has expressed his real thoughts about the nra in a new ad, which is completely over-the-top. he joins us next. he joins us next. do you need the most trusted battery in your noise cancelling headphones? maybe not. maybe you could trust you won't be next to a loud eater. without any compensation based purely on their ethnicity and distribute those farms to more favored groups. thousands have already migrated out of the country, but they have struggled to attract any sympathy abroad for some reason. ernst roets is deputy ceo of afriforum.gg it's a south africa civil rights group. he was just in the united states to meet with a number of government officials. he also took a moment to talk to us. here's part of what he said. m ernst roets joins us now. mr. roets, thanks for coming on. >> thank you very much. >> tucker: what you describenk in this book, a disorganized but in some sense intentional campaign to crush a racial minority within your country and the government seems on board with it. is that an overstatement? >> what the book is about, it'sa about government complicity and the scourge the farm attack, and farm murders that we've seen in south africa. we know in the last two decades there have been -- according to government statistics which believe -- we have reason to say it's maybe downplayed a little. there's been about two farm
9:40 pm
attacks every day and two farm murders every week in south africa. a and in the book, i highlight actually ten different reasons why we believe the south african government is complicit. it stretches from reasons including -- the fact that as these attacks have worsened, for example, in 2007, it was a 25% increase in these attacks and the south african government responded saying we are not going to release any more statistics about this. then also, which is very concerning, is the hate speech in south africa. i that's the title of the book as well. "kill the boer," which is a very popular songh which is still being sung in south africa. it was sung just the other day. it is sung at political rallies and of course boer referring to a particular cultural group in south africa. we have songs like "shoot the boer," which is a different song. there are a variety of ways in which --. >> tucker: wait, i thought that hate speech was now a crime punishable by prison time in south africa. i are any of the people who say this arrested? >> there's a bill on the table
9:41 pm
to have hate speech declared a crime punishable by prison time, but if you look at the motivation around it, it's clear, very clear that i think those in government who are pushing this don't regard this as hate speech. as a matter of fact, they've been arguing that it's not hate speech in court. so they would argue that they have a right to sing aboutut killing farmers and then they would say it's an expression of freedom of speech. >> tucker: so now the government has announced that im plans to pursue a policy of taking land away from people on the basis of their skin color. do you think they will do that? >> that is what was adopted in our parliament in february. a motion was adopted that the property rights clause in the south african constitution has to be changed to allow fora expropriation of private property without compensation.ha so the state president, cyril ramaphosa, said that this would turn south africa into the ultimate paradise and the garden of eden. and deputy president david mabuza even went further, saying that - basically threatening white farmers that if they do not voluntarilyu
9:42 pm
hand over their land to black people, then there will be a violent takeover. so the situation is very dire in south africa. but the good news is that there is still a process that has to be followed, and that's why we are in the united states. >> tucker: what i find so striking is the response from everyone else around the world. it's almost never covered the american media. there's a sense that the people being murdered deserve it because of what their ancestors did. the international community is similarly silent. have you met with any government officials here in washington about what's happening in your country? >> that's why we are here. we are about to meet with some government officials. and it's very unfortunate, the situation that you've just mentioned. especially in south africa there's a hierarchy of recognition. some people when they are the victims, it's all over the news and you hear about it frequently. and other people, especially farmers in south africa, white farmers in particular, they will be tortured to death and it will receive very littlee news coverage and that's unfortunately the situationti abroad as well, which is why we are very grateful to be having

this. >> tucker: a governmentat official in australia said publicly maybe we ought to allow asylum to people being persecuted for their skin color in your country. and he was basically laughed at and then attacked by your government for saying that. >> yes, he was attacked and theu then said that he shouldn't say that because afriforum was providing him with false information. the information that we are quoting is government statistics. so that is the situation. whoever speaks out against this -- we, just for being in the united states, we've been accused of treason. we've had people threatening us saying they will wait for us at the airport when we come back and they'll attack us and so forth. we had the state president today in parliament calling on us to go back to south africa. whenever you speak out against this, there is a very seriousll backlash. >> tucker: this is not what nelson mandela wanted. >> no, it's the exact opposite than what he wanted. i he spoke about a free country in which people were not judged by the color of their skin.d. and he even wanted farm attackss
9:44 pm
to be a priority crime. he said that when he was president. when his presidency was over, they de-prioritized it. >> tucker: so you just watched something like this happen in a neighboring country, zimbabwe, which went from being one of the richest in africa to the poorest in the world because of farm attacks and because of the theft of private property. is the anc, the ruling party in south africa, aware of thatva lesson? >> they are, but you know that saying "real communismsm has never been tried," that's what they keep saying. it failed in zimbabwe. it failed in cuba. it failed in venezuela. it failed in russia. it failed in china, all of those countries, and they are basically saying that we arela going to try the same thing but this time it's going to work. >> tucker: so last question. it's considered basically immoral in the united states to talk to you or to hear stories like this for reasons that nobody bothers ever really to explain, but it's just understood. if you could speak to our media, the people who are dismissing your claims as false, what would you say? >> i think there are three things. firstly, everything we say is fact based.
9:45 pm
it's based on research. but in terms of what we hope to achieve and what people can do, people who want to invest in south africa, we want them toan call on the south african government to say listen, you are calling on us to invest in your country but you want to expropriate those investments. number two, we are speaking with the u.s. government and asking them to put pressure on the south african government, which could be done in a variety of ways. and number three, members of the public and members of the media, the best thing you can do toe help us is to talk about this, to talk about it on public platforms and in that way tohe continue to put pressure on the south african government not tob continue with this policy. >> tucker: just to tell the truth. i agree. mr. roets, thank you. thank you for being here. tech companies are getting more powerful. facebook has a plan for ranking news outlets by how trustworthy they are. twitter censoring certain views entirely. details ahead.

apparently it's not enough for the tech companies to know what you do, and they do know what you do. increasingly, they want to control what you do and what you see and what you think. during a recent meeting withwh investors, facebook ceo mark zuckerberg revealed that his company has been ranking news outlets by how trustworthy they are, with less trusted outlets being penalized on facebook's news feed. trusted, by the way, by facebook -- not by you -- but by mark zuckerberg and his deputies. meanwhile, twitter is implementingby a system to suppress tweets it regards as harassment even if those tweets actually break no rules. in other words, if twitter disagrees with the political orientation of the tweets. brett larson hosts "fox news headlines 24/7" and investigates big tech for the show. we're grateful he does. he joins us tonight. >> hey, tucker, good to be here. we have been investigating this story over the past few days now involving facebook changes to how they handle news sourcese in users' newsfeed. as you mentioned, in a meeting with media company executives from the "new york times" to news corp., which is the parent company of fox news,

facebook ceo mark zuckerberg said they will be relying on user surveys to determine which news sources are "broadly trusted." the comments were made following facebook's f8 developer conference. that was at the beginning of the month, and this is one of the many changes the social media giant has made in an effort to combat fake news, fake accounts and bots that help amplify and spread fake information.s, now, i spoke with facebook earlier today and they assured me that this isn't an effort to censor any ideas or beliefs and at that the random sampling of trustworthiness happens frequently to ensure sites are getting a fair shake. it works like this. a user will be presented with a simple yes or no question about a news site. "are you familiar with this site?" a "yes" answer brings up the next question to rate it for trustworthiness on a scale of 1 to 5. now what about fake accounts boosting the trustworthiness of a not so trustworthy news outlet? facebook just this year has removed more than half a billion
