9:00 am
>> thanks for joining us on this weekend. >> "outnumbered" starts now. >> harris: fox news alert. we are waiting for possible reaction from president trump as he meets with the president of uzbekistan in the oval office right now. one of the most pressing issues for the trump administration is north korea threatening to walk away from the summit. a short time ago, the white house said they are moving forward as planned. this is "outnumbered". i upon melissa franzis. we have katie pavlich, host of kennedy, kennedy herself. and leslie marshal and joining us on the couch.
9:01 am
former republican presidential candidate herman cane. you are wildly outnumbered, my friend. you ready for us today? >> herman: ready. >> melissa: the white house is reacting from a threat from north korea to walk away from the summit between president trump and kim jong-un. north korea is objecting to upcoming method exercises. the regime sees the drills as a proveication. this comes after north korea cancelled high level talks with south korea that are scheduled today. sarah sanders is reacting this morning. >> we are hopeful that the meeting will take police and continue down that path. we know we have been prepared they are tough negotiations and the president is ready if the meeting takes place. if it doesn't we'll continue the maximum pressure campaign that
9:02 am
is ongoing. >> melissa: john roberts has more on this. john? >> reporter: the president just welcomed the president of uzbekistan to the white house. there is a good chance that the president will address north korea in the oval office very soon. and we'll bring it to you. if the president is in questions, today might be the day. the summit between north korea and the president hopefully still on track. one white house official said this is how they operate. the north koreans citing two reasons why the summit is in jeopardy. the joint military exercises between the united states and south korea even though kim jong-un said he was okay with it. the other, john bolton, the national security advisor and what he said back on april 29th in term was how he saw the north
9:03 am
korea denuclearization working out. and pointing out to the idea of what happened in libya in june of 2003, when they gave up their nuclear program and it was all shipped to the united states, listen here. >> we have in mind, the libya model from 2003 and 4. there are differences, the libyan program is smaller and that was the agreement we made. we want to test north korea in the first meeting for evidence they have made a strategic decision. >> reporter: what north korea is worried about. gaddafi gave up the nuclear weapon and he was thrown out of power and executing in the streets. north korea leaders don't want that to happen. there is no connection between
9:04 am
libya giving up nuclear weapon and as a result of the arab spring. the white house pushing back that the president would use the libyan model. and the press secretary saying that the president has his own ideas. listen here. >> this is something that we fully expected. the president is very used and ready for tough negotiations. and if they want to meet we'll be ready and if they don't, that's okay, too. we'll continue with the pressure of maximum like i said. if they want to meet the president will be ready and we'll be prepared and if not that's okay. >> reporter: north korea has a long- running feud with john bolton before talks with north korea, when kim jonning- ilwas the president. and they said unkind things about him when he was in charge of arm's control and
9:05 am
international security. white house hoping that cooler heads will prevail here and something that north korea does, melissa, we'll see. they fully expect north korea could pull the plug. >> melissa: thank you so much. and deals fall apart twice before you get to the finish line and this is only the first time it will fall apart; what is your take? >> herman: this is posturing. you have a lot of posturing takes place. it doesn't matter between business or country and john bolton said, this could be the first meeting of several. i think expectations by a lot of people, that all of the sudden, we'll get a final solution the first half built expectations up too high. >> melissa: leslie? >> leslie: i agree with you. it is not a quick five- minute
9:06 am
discussion. i am not surprised with this. when you sit back and look at kim jong-un and he said i don't have a problem with the troops being in south korea. he had a problem and his father and grandfather had a problem. and they turned their backs on meeting and denuclearization under clinton and we'll see it now again. i don't trust this man and i don't think it is surprising that he's not trustworthy to sit down and meet with your president and this unfortunately could put our president in the same place as every administration in the past 50 years is. pressuring them to try to get to diplomacy and we never make it. >> melissa: it is not a surprise if there is push back and north korea not going to agree to unlaterally dismantle the nuclear program. they kind of agreed to denuclearization.
9:07 am
but the united states has a laundry list of things they would like to see done. this is also someone who brutally slaughtered his own people. to think he will be flipping a switch and be natural. he operates under constant fear that his country will be invaded by a combination of the united states and south korea. i think he dream was swiss cheese. but there is so much up side that he had a taste of. and he has to realize that. but what he's giving up. if you are talking about a libyan model it is hard to for him to disconnect the death of gaddafi. >> melissa: we saw the president in the oval office with the president of uzbekistan. we'll get the full spray in a moment. but he was asked about north korea and his response to it. but katie, i take it over to
9:08 am
you. leslie said i told you so. and we'll get the opportunity to say i told you so. and as the deal comes together and falls apart. libya may not have been the best reference for ambassador bolton. >> katie: it did not work out. and there is a reason why the talks with north korea failed under the republican and democrat presidents, it is not because the united states is not willing to come to the table and negotiate. the white house is clear to be open to either side of this. it is the north korea ball to decide to play. the interest thing about north korea saying they have issues with the south korea doing military exercises. in the fall, u.s. officials said in bep ginning said it is a nonstarter because they are askingitous exchange a legal act with our allies in exchange for
9:09 am
them to stop illegal nuclear behavior. and the promises from the north koreans to denuclearize. and a threat to get out of the summit, they will not be pushed in the corner with nuclear abandonment. the administration made it clear we want complete denuclearization and they are now pushing back. the first go around with the administration, it is not the first go around with the north korean nation. >> herman: sound bytes do not determine an agreement and we have a lot of them and lot of expectation and it is early to say we told you so. that is posturing going on. and a lot of the people speculate too far ahead. it is a delicate and sensitive issue with this country and like the president said, we'll see,
9:10 am
let it unfold. >> he's operating similarly to rex tillerson and the upside of american investment and if american countries go to north korea and put people to work. and so it is that that carrot and stick mechanism. and you are right. it is very delicate and how you play it. ultimately everyone should want peace. every single person and it is disingenous for people on the left saying ha, ha, ha, ha. >> leslie: i told you so is not ha, ha, ha. no, no, no. i am not surprised it wouldn't happen. you are not a person who is brain washed your people to think that you are a god and your father and grandfather did this and you turn around and say i am a nice guy and i want to
9:11 am
play and i want a unified korea and today they refer to themselves as separate. >> melissa: he is wanting a korea but wants to be in charge. >> leslie: i agreement you talk of posturing. but you talk about not only libya and iraq and coming out of ambassador bolton's mouth. this just feeds it. >> katie: china is another player and saying maybe we'll not be so friendly about the summit. china has a interest in getting rid of military influence on the korean peninsula. they have more interest in keeping north korea. and they don't like the u.s. power. and the media has to be careful
9:12 am
as well. the north korea is using this as a push. they are inviting press to blow up nuclear sites to prove they are negotiating and willing to come to the table and the talks collapsed. and they offered to invite reporters to north korea and blow up tunnels. that doesn't mean they are genuine. they are playing the system as well. >> kennedy: you are right about china's influence. they are seething and sitting over there and waiting to weigh in and exert that influence and make promises. >> leslie: being the lonely wolf on the couch. liberals don't want this and conservatives do. this is an area where americans come together.
9:13 am
to have a denuclearized north korea is best for the united states and our allies south korea. >> melissa: this is president trump who was in the oval office with the president of uzbekistan. we are getting a tape spray out to hears on reporters ask questions about the north korean situation. we'll listen in. >> thank you very much. >> kenndy: weep will see what happens. we haven't seen anything. we'll see what happens.

[inaudible] >> it is all around the world as well. >> we'll see what happens. [inaudible questions] >> it is time to go? >> thank you very much, everybody. >> melissa: give you an insight to hear the questioning from the media. the screaming in the background was something and all he said, we'll wait and see and we haven't been notified. so, that is sort of the meeting is not cancelled yet amongst all of the reports, and that is what that means, ken endy what does that mean? >> kenndy: i think more formal
9:15 am
channels than what we know about on the surface and active talks between their foreign ministry and our secretary of state. and you know, the talks are still on, and i think it is a little bit of a pr move. they gave such a major concession by handing over three american hostage and you wonder if there is giver's remorse. >> katie: sarah said we haven't gotten official notice. we'll go forward to the summit for singapore. >> melissa: when you hear them screaming at the president. does it make you wish you were sitting in the chair with them? >> herman: no, i have been in a screaming match of reporter and everybody is looking for that headline. and this president demonstrated he will not show his hand and i will go back to something leslie
9:16 am
said. we agree when you brain wash your people that you are a god. he has to push u push back and say maybe we'll not. i agree with you. i think this is what is happening at this point until there is an official statement that it will not happen. i think as the president says, we will see. >> melissa: there are so many things that are predictable and various people say the same thing and it is like a shake peerian tragedy. and it is a rush to offer concessions and blinded by optimism, and it seems like there are a couple of things that the administration is doing differently. i had lunch with a good friend of mine who is a liberal who said what if it workings.
9:17 am
i think it can. i think there will be snag and setbacks. >> melissa: and there is the parity that they want the deal that iran got. that deal has been revoked. and you have to say we'll not give concessions to either state. new reaction to a senate committee's release of go ahead. transcripts from the 2016 trump tower meeting and plus gina haspel is a big step closer to being the next cia chief. more democrats are getting on board. patrick woke up with back pain.

junior said he did not tell his father about the e-mail and less clear when it comes to questions about president trump's involvement in a july 8th, 2017, meeting. he told the new york times that the meeting with the russian lawyer was primarily about russian adoption. he did not mention the meeting that the information might that hurt hillary clinton campaign. he replied. i never spoke to my father about it. and after this exchange occurred with a committee staff asking trump junior, did the president provide edits to the statement or otherwise. >> he may have commented through hope hicks. do you know if they were incorporated in the final

statement. trump junior: this was a effort of counsel. >> did you ask him to provide help with the statement? >> no, hope hicks asked me to speak to him. and i chose not to because i did not want him in something. and he was asked how the president and members of the team learned about the e-mail. trump junior replied i don't know. he interviewed simpson and sources told fox news that they met before and after she met with trump junior. and he met with her the night before and had no idea to meet with anyone with the trump campaign. >> kennedy: let's discuss this, herman. what is your take away with reading the thousands of pages of transcripts released.
9:24 am
>> herman: a nothing big nothing burger. donald trump junior said in an earlier interview he was with that lady 20 minutes. how are you going to interview and ask him questions for five hours when he was in a meeting 20 minutes. this is going to turn out to be a nothing burger with a lot of speculation. >> kennedy: i went to look at websites with the new's organization who make their business tearing the president apart and they couldn't find anything. i must be misses the smoking gun. and someone said it could blow up after the fact. and all of that is if donald trump junior is telling the truth in the answers and they were not able to trip him up. >> katie: it seems like it was
9:25 am
a lobbying effort by natalia and that was it. it was something that they said they were doing and they turned it into something else. you get a year or two years past the meeting and let's not forget natalia admitted she was a spy. we heard that. and the most interesting part glenn simpson, co-founder of fusion gps was part of writing the doszier and met with her before the trump tower and after the meeting. this was not giving donald trump junior dirt. it was her way of getting dirt>> kennedy: you have the lobbying. and make sense that putin's cronies want a reversal and they
9:26 am
apparently gave wording and i think it is so strange, the take away here, presidential campaigns should not be trolling in russian swamps for opposition research? >> leslie: i am not standing on a aggress knoll. i think it raises more questions to your point as if he is telling the truth. did i read all 2000 pages, no. >> kennedy: i was afraid to print them. i wanted to. but they'll kill me. >> leslie: when somebody said the whole adoption thing and scrambling after the attorney and who says what and the text message and this is what i told him and hope it was worth it. and tell your dad i hope it was worth it. why if it is a nothing berger and an e-mail, tomorrow meetings at my office and i just saw them
9:27 am
when i came back from the gym, that is a problem with me and this is not the only piece of information. >> kennedy: that was not referenced to the president. that was in reference. to natalia or the russian ola -- or the pop star that was with rob gold stone who was the music manager and reached out. and he said i have dirt i love it. >> leslie: it bothers me, kennedy this is what i ask them and stick to it. hey, i hope it was with you. >> katie: no one cares. >> herman: nothing burger. >> leslie: donald trump junior wants information on hillary if i can get it. i didn't know who i was getting it from.
9:28 am
you can't say i can't believe a russian lawyer goes to a trump tower. but it is fine if the dmc is paying christopher steele million was dollars. >> melissa: bringing back to what katie said. that was my impression, too. if you are reading it and looking for a deeper level. it was an attempt to infiltrate the campaign on behalf of the hillary or dnc. >> kennedy: to me it was like make a connection. >> melissa: maybe we can tell them we are lobbying about this. to me that's what it felt like it could have been. but that is speculation. >> katie: if there is something wrong show us. and enough of the implication and maybe they did this. and that's not treason and not a crime and it may be annoying.
9:29 am
>> melissa: yeah. >> leslie: the meeting was not the crime but this is not the only enchilla cathat they are looking. >> kennedy: so far past the meal. ahead of the mid- term election. two candidates that he supported winning primaries in anybody nebraska and pennsylvania. and gearing up. discussing the state sanctuary law and wrapping up the crack down on illegal immigration. what we can expect from that meeting? >> we believe that california should help us in all municipalities and all help the material government and enforcing the federal law and deport illegal immigrants.

with regard to senate bill 54, the california value's act. there are liberals like myself that are not happy with elements of it. example. if you were mr. cain, somebody who beat your wife, you are undocumented and you get put in prison and then you are released, we want you to be deported and that is something left and right agree on. what we don't agree on, making it difficult to have law enforcement having it difficult. 1 and 2 separation of family and i add a third, a questionable arrest. if somebody committed a crime in addition to crossing the border, what kind of crime. violent or did they steal a pack of gum or bike. california for the most part is socially liberal, even the republicans. it is extremely political.

republicans have over 25 percent down voter registration. that is dangerous going into the midterm and this is a topic they feel can help take a state. >> kennedy: i think it is unfair to say it is just political though. but the mayor who is enforcing the administration's role in illegal immigration. >> katie: they are concerned about the community and violent criminals put back in the street, whether san francisco or their backyard. they are trying to protect the people living there. and the upcoming governor's race. a primary on june 5th. the republicans travis allen has been nailing the issue of sent cities and taking advantage of the fact that counties are going against san francisco. if he wins the primary, he will go up against gavin newsome who
