to steve nelson. what has reported for the washington examiner. what do you predict could happen this week? >> this demands for the justice department to look into the alleged informant is really off of the twitter feed. the white house and justice department have not responded to the request for comments from what i'm sure is about 200 porters wanted to know what this is about. -- reporters wanted to know what this is about. the present said there was an informant speaking to members of the campaign and has called for the release of documents to congressional investigators. it is conceivable that this demand for an official look into this will take some different form. perhaps, suggestion that the inspector general review this.

perhaps at the documents be provided to congress. we just do not know yet. z went to try and see these. they're not giving the documents and congress they say, is being stonewalled about this and raising troubling questions about the bureau potentially using an informant during the presidential campaign. others say was targeted specifically at potential russian influence in the campaign. in the election and not the campaign itself. >> the congressional investigator is have not been able to get much information on this. the justice department saying they cannot really out the informant. that of course will not satisfy people. there's talk of holding the attorney general, jeff sessions in contempt. devin nunes, chairman of the house intelligence committee suggested today there might be more than one informant. this is a story that is not going to be over quickly. >> when the president says he will demand tomorrow, do you know what type of steps that

would take precisely in terms of telling the justice department want to do? and as you say, what with the attorney general or rug was assigned push back and say no? >> frankly it is unclear. the president if you look at the twitter feed today, there are many tweets angry about the russian investigation and alleged double standardwith hillary clinton. the delivery of documents, congressional investigators , is very clearly frustrated with this. with the official look into the matter, entails, is unclear. another white house press staff, they themselves probably do not know yet at this point the president would like to request on the hillary clinton email situation, critics say the contrast is just a start. hillary was not put under oath, the other folks are not put under oath. just about this alleged informant in the journal, they

campaign officials? >> it is been interesting to read the reporting on the meetings that the cambridge university professor had with the trump campaign advisors. just mentioning russia, mentioning stone emails and passing. it is unclear how thorough his investigating was, their potential wrongdoing of these advisors. certainly it will be more details to come. >> that will be the statement of the year. for more this would bring in john dell computer vice president at the institute for constitutional government at the heritage foundation. john, as an expert in the constitution, you are also former deputy attorney general. you think the fbi was using the alleged informant? >> look, this investigation was certainly threatening to come off of the resident was on.

there was it seems a foreign intelligence investigation, not a criminal investigation going on involving george papadopoulos and carter page. before this was initiated at the end of july, this professors are speaking to papadopoulos, carter page and others asking questions about the russians. this is very, very dangerous territory. >> why would that be dangerous territory? let's see those three potential or colluding or have information of wrongdoing. let's say when the fbi have a legitimate reason to investigate? >> so the foreign intelligence surveillance act is designed to root of people that either willingly or unwillingly are agents of foreign powers visited extent of what you think the russians had actually co-opted someone to work for them, then this is legitimate. but this leads into a criminal investigation and involved one of the major political parties in the heat of a political

campaign. this is fraught with medical peril. these decisions are being made by political appointees. when you add on top of that, all that has come out about peter strzok and lisa paige and anti-trump bias and those leading the investigation, it becomes particularly problematic. it is still early days. we do not know if this guy was being paid to be an fbi informant, whether he was doing this on his own or if he was the only one. what intelligence gathering. -- he was offered to pay papadopoulos a few thousand dollars to write a paper. >> yes -- >> that is what conforms to peers or spies do to try and broken people to cooperate. to george papadopoulos he seemed like a willing person.

the campaign. there is no way to embed somebody into this campaign or have someone sniffing around this campaign without getting into the tactics of what the campaign was. this was an investigation that was fraught with little power from the beginning. later it was initiated to try to root out what the russians are trying to get into it is quite clear what they did but it was done so seemingly against one campaign and in a way that has left the fbi once more, open to the charge that they had been politicized and westernized with the criminal process. >> of the sentences of the bureau, have an obligation to root out objectively this type of allegations? >> they do. you have to handle this kind of thing very delicately. they could have at some point gone and talked to the trump campaign. they refused to do so. now they going to be part in a bit of a bind.

send that it had quite a bit of detail on it. if any of that is true, there is a redline in this country. you cannot do this to political campaigns. >> had to think that this will play out? and does the president have the power to be classified? does he have that power? >> he does. he can also fire robert mueller and he can shut down the investigation. he would choose to do so and take the political headset that involves i don't know. he has not done that to date but asking the effect to disclose the confidential informant is a bit of a risky business. but i think devin nunes is onto something. it is one thing to look at an individual and say that they are potential russian spy. it is another thing to let this go on and extend the tentacles of the investigation. it is very dangerous and once they have left this to be vulnerable to be attacked.
