2:00 pm
>> hi i'm greg gutfeld with kimberly guilfoyle -- dana perino. "the five" >> it's day two in neil gate. both sides lineup on opposite ends of the field. first it's donald trump doing donald trump. president: you have to stand proudly for the national anthem or you shouldn't be playing, you shouldn't be there, maybe you shouldn't be in the county. you have to stand proudly for the national anthem. the nfl owners have done the
2:01 pm
right thing. >> if that's the story, have you pushed it forward to a conclusion? president: i think the people pushed it forward. i brought it out. the people push it did forward. >> another hardin ter view. give that guy a razor something to stand on. >> brutal. >> you expect that from trump. he finds a issue and takes a hard line stance. whining about it would be point less. he's your uncle, uncle sam. that didn't stop the pearl clutchers from clutching their pearls. >> it's disgraceful. >> if you have the position to do it, do it. >> it's absurd. he doesn't sound like the leader of the free world. >> remember how this started. speaking to a crowd white football crowd, calling them sob skp*z saying they should be fired. in what world other than his is
2:02 pm
that okay? >> america. they miss the point the first amendment is a right held against the government. a private entity like the nfl, they own it and make the rules. as long as there is no discrimination the teames can mandate the teams play in high heels and the reveries work in tutus. the players can protest but they will be penalized if it's done during a game. penalized not jailed. the players are employees at work disobeying a rule. where are you in all of this? where you have always been, scratching your head. you prefer unit over conflict. you don't mind dissent. it's the dissension. mind you you enjoy a good debate. that's why you watch "the five." this is like turning on this show and seeing me and dana
2:03 pm
playing ba batmiton for an hour. and seeing me in tight white shorts is not appropriate for 5 5:00 p.m. >> or ever. >> glass houses, tiny dancer. glass houses. >> i'm not scared. alright. jesse, welcome back. you had strep throat. we missed you. >> yes, trump was right. i was sick of winning. >> tired of winning. >> tired of winning. >> a purely natural vacation. >> yes. thank you for bringing that up. >> i read "reason" magazine. they say the nfl bowed to trump. i felt they wanted to nip this in the bud. >> i don't read reason. i read the weekly standard. that's what you gave me a subscription for.
2:04 pm
nobody is trampling anyone's constitutions al rights. they're employees like us at information news. this are rules. hr rules, pr rules. after awhile people change the channel and the ratings would dip, the company ceo would say can you stop doing that. if you say no, you're fired. that's how it works. you wear their jersey, you're in their stadium, you play for their team. they can tell what you to do or what not to do. it's a great idea trump isn't going to deport players. he's saying love it or leave it he likes the country so much. it's hyperbola. the kneeling thing hurt. speak your mind on espn, fox news, twitter. on sunday play football. it hurt. it hurt the commissioner, he was
2:05 pm
hit hard because of his response. it hurt the ratings. it hurt the players. some of the players that kneeled are free agents and having a hard time getting resigned. it hurt the democrats. they sidepugh with 75% of the count row. i think this is a good thing and i'm glad it's resolved. >> another argument for not detp-ping the nfl -- defending the nfl band this. is like shutting down speakers on campus. you're a snow flake if you don't want them to neil. >neil.>>kneel.>> i saw that tod. i don't think the government should tell private companies what to do. i'm for. that colleges are meant to be places for fro expression. most of them get taxpayer dollars. i guess you can say the nfl shouldn't get taxpayer dollars for stadium funds.
2:06 pm
i'm for that too. the nfl is to play foot paul. you don't expect a free exchange of ideas like a college campus. >> free exchange of helmets to the head. marie, you can't say this is discriminating if it applies to everyone, correct? >> i think what the nfl didn't do correctly, in my opinion. it doesn't seem like they communicated adequately with the player association before they released this. now there is a fight of individual players and the nfl. i know they want this out of the way before the next season, i get that. it has reseeded from the headlines. if they coordinated this and had a more comprehensive plan this. is the man. we will fine players if they kneel. we will also take the five community activism steps players have asked for. it seems that would have been a better way to move forward.
2:07 pm
and the president's comments, throw more gasoline on the foyer of a controversial issue. i think the nfl could of handled this better. now you have people like the owner of the jets saying he will pay the fine if his players get them. he won't pass it on. he wants his players to express themselves. >> that's a interesting point, kg. it puns the ownness on the other owners. it's the owners ownness. it's the ownness on the owners. now the jets are doing it, should we do it? i don't know. will the struggle continue. >> yes, a employing pressure. probably a simpler term to use, you struggled deeply with that. he will do that, what about the rest of you? show up. pay up. i a grow with president trump on this. they're paid millions of dollars for a privilege to play in one of the world's greatest sports.
2:08 pm
one i love to watch as well. this is a time for social justice and activism. i love it express your self that's what people fought for in this country. so we can sit here with crazy, insane opinions at the table -- >> why are you looking at me? >> a side glance. one eye at you and one at greg. >> amazing how she does that. >> unbelievable. i practice a lot. we're paid a -- we're paid to do a job. we work for this company. they work for different teams in the nfl. if you have a problem don't play then. that's what he's trying to say. i like the use of hig hyperbly. that was excellent, jesse. >> thank you. if you don't like this here go play in can that. >> go play for the french. no uniforms --
2:09 pm
>> pugh na point touch. >> the underlying truth i have a inkling everyone wants this behind them. even colonel e colin kaepernick. i think they feel, this wasn't suppose to go this long. >> yes. we all want the same thing. we're all for america. i think that's what the nfl tried to do. they handled it pretty well. they have to do it at should point do. it now, get it over with, owners meeting and move on. now they have laid out the policy, if it continues to happen. i couldn't see how it would. unless you're the jets. they have laid out the policy. now if you do it and get fired you're actually foyering yourself. you're making a choice. >> yes. again it's another issue, jesse. were you hear when we talked about laurel and yani.
2:10 pm
it's laurel and yani. >> yes it's not 50/50. it's like 80/20 in the country. i don't have a problem talking about race and police brutality. it's fine to be about activism. it's about symbols with these people. they wear the hat, walk out of class over guns, do the black power thing. that's fine. then we ask, what do you want to do, what is the solution. they say we have to do something but don't offer a solution. i think that's the problem. what do the players want? what are they specifically addressing? what are the solutions to police brutality and racism. nobody knew what they were. it just looked unpatriotic. >> the nfl can't afford to have another season -- not just the ratings but there are many pressures.
2:11 pm
people watching different things. also this recent decision by the supreme court about sports betting. that's a bigger issue for the nfl to deal with now. >> also the brain injuries. >> yes, that's a bigger issue long term for the nfl. there are players like malcolm jenkins, if you went to ohio state, he has plans and ideas of how to work with community activists and law enforcements. he's doing the meetings on his own with other players. more players should do that like he has been doing. >> yes. >> last word, kimberly. >> think they should focus on playing football. if they want to keep their jobs. look what happened to kaepernick. >> i feel bad about the 49ers. >> right. they were the best team ever. everyone looked up to the 49ers. we had the best quarter backs.
2:12 pm
steve young, ronnie lott. >> yes, have to shut up now. talking about myself. president trump cancels the north korea summit. his message to the north next.
2:13 pm
2:14 pm
2:15 pm
2:16 pm
>> in a major turn of events president trump is calling off next months highly anticipated summit with north korea. the president explains why he pulled the plug. president: i believe this is a tremendous setback for north korea, and indeed a setback for the world. hopefully positive things will be taking place with respect to the future of north korea. but if they don't we are more ready then we have ever been before. it's possible that the existing summit could take place or summit at some later date. nobody should be anxious. we have to get it right.
2:17 pm
>> as expected democrats are spiking the football over the summit cancellation. >> i think it's a good thing for kim jong-un. he got the letter from the president that said, never mind. he must be having a giggle fit. >> the art of diplomacy is harder then the deal. >> the president rehearsed his end line dance and we were the at the 50--yard line. >> a lot of metaphors. he is right, you can't go into something unless you have it worked out. he's operating from a position of strength. he says we're better prepared then ever before. don't mess with us, a little flexing there. and we're not going to cater to him. >> trump did what kerry should of done, willingness to walk away from the table. we're positioning from a position of strength. i believe little rocket man lost his strength.
2:18 pm
he pad mouthed our president. trump took a step back and said let's work this out. maybe it will happen. maybe it won't. it's still gamesmanship. we could have a summit down the line. they destroyed the missile site, they released hostages. they signaled an end to the korean war. the media completely out of line with their comments here. they make little rocket man look like the winner here. how can you when you announce the summit in the beginning they say that's a win for kim. then you bail out and they say it's a win for kim. which one is it. fire and furry helps kim. we're alienating our allies. remember what they said about the sister of kim. the diplomat but ivanka mess it
2:19 pm
did up. the whole time they are on the side of kim and i don't take it seriously. >> i must change my name immediately. the rocket man is the run away bride. creating problems. dana this is expected because it's part and parcel with how he has behaved in the past. >> i was talking to someone who said it's more comfortable having ki kim jong-un acting moe normal. it was putting the ownness on president trump when little rocket man changed. remember the montage of president trump from greg. talking about north korea, we will see what happens. that's what he meant, we will see what happens. he's not afraid to walk away from it. he left the door open. i'm curious about china's
2:20 pm
position on this. i don't need to know right now. >> you think it has to do with the trade negotiations? interesting. >> i think south korea is too eager and they have to tap the breaks and accept president trump when he says we will see what happens. that's what he means. i understand they maybe frustrated they didn't hear from him before the news came out. it's not your typical diplomacy. >> negotiations. for sure. greg, what can you add to the conversation. >> a lot. first a angle to rachel. this was done to drive up the price of the commemorative coin that was made for the summit. now they will be more expensive. it's like the media has not a car or a new car. because even though do i feel a bit disappointed, i'm not surprised. i understand that in negotiations the only way negotiations work, it's a race
2:21 pm
to leave the table first. you have to be the first one to leave. i have to say we didn't mention trump's letter he wrote. >> classic. >> it was amazing. it was perfect, tough love. trump's language was the exact same tone of the parents who kicked out the 30-year-old. we want to do what is best for you. it really could of been good. you should get a job. think about paying for your apartment. that's what he is saying. this could work out. it's a shame it's not happening this. is what trump does. he would negotiate over a bread dole at the dinner table. china, we're no longer the welcome mat for china. they're ticked off. we disinvited them from attending one of our naval drills. they're mad about that. the last time they were there they spied on us and stole technology. i'm cautiously optimistic. a tad disappointed but prepared.
2:22 pm
>> you invested in the coin. >> yes. >> -- having to swallow something that isn't good. >> and william pugh evein bought a lot of the coins. >> this is complex and involves china. president trump had pompeo go over there. little rocket man wants to be reassured if he engages in the denuke hrar we will honor our bargain and the regime will be in power. stay tuned. >> yes. if the administration goes back to the drawing board, basics and substance and think about what they wanted to get from this. i agree a summit is important. they need to do a little more prep work. clearly everyone wasn't on the same page. they have to go back to the south corians to make sure they're okay. they were surprised. yesterday they said it was a 99%
2:23 pm
of happening. i think the president was right to keep the door open for diplomacy with a hint of nuclear war throne in. now they have to realize words matter. they were upset at the vice president. the white house has admitted the vice president's comments were not helpful. take a breath g back to the diplomatic drawing board. pompeo will be helpful on that regard. >> he has been so far. >> yes. >> it's troubled waters for the democratic blue wave in california, indeed. details head.
2:24 pm
2:25 pm
2:26 pm
2:27 pm
>> okay. jesse is cracking me up. more evidence a blue wave is crashing for democrats. a new poll shows presiden presit
2:28 pm
trump's rising approval is hurting. this maybe an example of why. why a business owner confronted nancy pelosi. >> i gave my employees a bonus and pay increase they appreciated. add to that with holding and there was a noticeable increase in income. this was not crumbs to them. >> oh the crumb comment came back to haunt them. >> anything kimberly, in your home state of california calf, a jungle primary. >> yes. aeufrpblgts lot of enthusiasm on the democratic side. a hot of people want to run. they have watered down the democratic side. the top vote getters on
2:29 pm
june 5th go to the run off. it could be in a couple of the races the democrats are shut out with no candidate. >> what is interesting. i know the democrats are worried if the race comes down to certain individuals i may of been associated in the past. -- and john coxf they run against each other i have predicted this. i have advised on this to say, watch out. getting too crazy and too far left. orange county has been surging. the poll numbers coming in are quite considerable and for mid i formidable. that is something the republicans can count on. john has been endorsed by the president with positive comments about him. this will be a interesting race to watch. you have john cox trying to surge. i think it will be more fascinating then we're accustomed to in california. >> marie, pelosi's comments
2:30 pm
about crumbs may of surged in certain places but if you fight for the majority in places like orange county it's not helpful. the sanctuary area of orange county isn't blue yet. it's red and orangeish. >> yes. orange county isn't representative in the larger part of california. i think her comments play well in other parts of the state. the democratic party is running candidates that match the districts. nancy pelosi is popular in some districts and raises money but not in others. there are a lot of conner lambs running and raising money. they're not parroting what nancy pelosi says. i think it will be interesting. i'm not spiking the football a couple of months before the midterms. i think some democrats are overly optimistic. it will be interesting. in some states like new jersey, new york, illinois, and even california where the tax bill
2:31 pm
hasn't been as helpful because of state and local taxes. >> the first year of the gubernatorial races in virginia and new jersey. virginia particularly, the first year of president trump there was a huge amount of democratic enthusiasm and the republican loses in virginia. i don't know if that would happen today. the second year things see more results and people are comfortable. maybe the midterm isn't what the democrats thought. >> looking like. that good news for america. bad news for democrats. wages are up 3% under the trump administration. biggest surge in wages in 18 years. consumer confidence at a 20 year high. people have 2000 extra dollars in their pockets. the stock market is doing well and 401ds are better. combining that with being safer as a country, that's hard to run again.
2:32 pm
the democrats v as greg said, identity politics. they don't have an eye dent tee. what is the identity. the slogan they stole from trump in the midterm "drain the swamp" you can do better than that. >> the democrats haven't settled in on a message. they change things. calling things crumbs. >> trumps approval should be surging in orange county. it's orange. nancy pelosi never live down the "crumb" moment. it's her britney spears moment stuck with her forever. it's not about trump, a lot is about california. it's a slow rolling disaster. it's resembling the day room from "one flew over the koo koo's nest." i had dr. drew on my bod cast.
2:33 pm
he expects serious infectious disease explosion in california because of the homeless situation, human waste, rodents that out number humans ten to one. if you have seen the homeless en campness in california you combine that with the diseases spread by fleas and rodents. i'm telling you. >> are you recording a commercial? it's frightening. >> this is true. the last time this happened it rhymed with the playing. >> this is a great ad. >> i'm telling you. if you have human homeless encampments you have rodents out numbering people. the fleas spread this. california is in for a scary time. i'm scaring myself. am i really on tv now. >> you're in your head for sure. >> we will save everyone and move on. two highly anticipated meetings
2:34 pm
on the russian investigation today. surrounding the president's spygate claims. the details next.
2:35 pm
2:36 pm
2:37 pm
2:38 pm
>> two big briefings in wash washington. meeting on the russia investigation. this comes amid reports of a fbi informant talking to insiders and an accusation of a spy. on his interview of "fox and friends" trump takes aim at james comey. president: i think a thing i did for the country, the firing of james comey will go down as a good thing. fbi is great. some of the people at the top were rotten apples. james comey was one of them.
2:39 pm
>> rotten james comey. clapper decides this has decided the election. >> it's my opinion. given the massive effort the russians made and the number of citizens they touched and the fact it turns on less than 10,000 votes in less than three states to, me it exceeds logic that they didn't affect the election. it's my belief they actually turned it. >> so the obama administration likes to brag they never had a scandal. i think we found one, marie. a piece of evidence linking that is we have texts and at one point he said, the white house is running this. meaning the counter intelligence into the trump campaign. >> how do you know that, did it say that. >> what say you. kimberly, what about you?
2:40 pm
>> wait wait wait. >> okay. so, i think that the mueller investigation is serious and getting more serious. the president is deciding to talk with bob mueller. against that back drop the president and his supporters are tree trying to create a alternative narrative with no evidence. >> no evidence? >> there was no spy looking, spying on the trump campaign. that is not true. >> why not? >> there is no evidence to support. that. >> -- talking to three to four trump campaign officials before the counter intelligence operation was open, you don't think that's a spy in the campaign. >> i do not. that's not what the intel question community would call it either. -- discredit bob mueller. >> comey said it was human intel question or something like that. that's like calling a intern a
2:41 pm
coffee transportation specialist. >> i think why today's meetings were important was because this are a lot of insinuations by the shut porters of the president that i think are designed to credit the investigation. we need the transparency and information. >> if you are right, i will tell you, you are right. >> let's hear. >> you are not. >> there hasn't been transparency. when they ask questions, they have oversight of. the congress people and the doj they're stone walled. >> stone walled. they submit false dossiers paid for by hillary clinton. the bad actor is coming from the other side. the collusion appears to be and the ig report will conclude this if they were under mining a presidential began date and specifically engage in spying, okay. in a campaign they had no authority to do so. if you were that concerned of a
2:42 pm
influence of russians you should have knocked on the door and said, beware. instead they try to take things into their own hands. >> if i was james comey i would be zipping it. by the time the ig comes out he wouldn't be able to give him book away. same with clap on, clap off. the two jims are in trouble. and mccabe he's in trouble too. they tried to get out, because they know how bad it is what what they have done. >> stunning what james clapper has said. he's pulling a numberer out of thin air saying votes were affected to the point trump wouldn't of won. where does he come up with that. >> it's extremely curious. hopefully we will find out more. he prefaces it with saying, his informed decision. the problem is if you believe that you have to believe our government is tote hee
2:43 pm
incompetent. >> possibility. >> -- against trump they really didn't do a good job. i think the big problem for democrats is we did a block about how the democrats have spent 1 months and haven't figured out what they're going to say. having someone like clapper reinforce hillary clinton loss because of the russians, makes it harder for them to figure out a message. with a little effort the campaign in brooklyn. leave brooklyn and get to wisconsin and michigan they probably could of won. >> not helpful from clapper. >> greg greg. >.>> we have two collusion stors going on. this is the media's more feign that keeps them in dream land. now let's move onto what trump is calling spygate. i will try to decipher, marie, your response to. that i believe reflects all of
2:44 pm
media. we know there was no spying whatsoever. no spying whatsoever. if there was it was a good spying vaccine to protect against the worst spying. again there was no spying. please don't reveal the name of the non spy because he's definitely not a spy. you don't want to blow his cover for not being a spy. a, no spying, but good spying. please don't reveal the name of the spy, he's not a spy. >> charitable spy. >> get your story straight, democrats. up next who is on "the five" addicted to their cellphones. find out next.
2:45 pm
2:46 pm
2:47 pm
2:48 pm
>> well the memorial day holiday weekend is just around the corner. and just like you the tpoeufb can't wait. will we be able to shut down, relax, and put away our cellphones as we look at our cellphones here. a study says, not a chance. americans check their phones 10 times a day on average while on vacation. jesse.
2:49 pm
>> oh. >> very good. >> that was almost compelling acting there. >> i sold it. >> are you, are you -- you do a lot of instagramming. >> do i? >> instanonsence. >> do you do it on vacation should. >> i will try to stop this vacation. it's hard. you're in the news business. you don't want to be like, what happened, is the summit back on. i am going to make a concerted effort to ditch the phone. >> where are you going? >> i'm not going to tell people for security reasons. >> okay. >> that's my answer. >> we will talk to you on tuesday and see how you did. >> are you a vacation phone checker? >> i do find it hard to take a break from it. it's so hard to catch up. also it's a wonderful time to be in news. so much news. if you, this is lots of great stuff being written, keeping in touch with people.
2:50 pm
pictures of jasper are amazing. >> amazing. >> would like not to look at it as much as i do. >> this are times i go maces with bad reception. it's soothing. then i can't check my phone. >> anxiety producing. >> you're a phone all the time person. >> i like the news. that's my vacation. i want to read about it, look at what is going on, check the pictures. what is dana doing having a better life then me. i want to see t okay. there is the beach. okay. there is jasper in the waves. >> jasper has a better life then all of us. >> then i feel like i'm on vacation. >> greg. >> the problem lies the solution, marie. you need to treat your phones like anything in life. delayed gratification. if you don't look at something for two hours. it's a digital christmas. your phone becomes -- >> otherwise it's monday. >> -- it's monday. otherwise you have christmas
2:51 pm
three or four times. opening gifts and gifs. >> you can say digital christmas now. >> the world is a hard place with nothing to look forward. to if you check your phone all the time it makes you feel bad. >> nobody cares. >> nobody cares. turn it off and the phone can create moments where you foal good and lock forward to it. you're delighted and avoid the status of inequality. it drives everyone crazy will. >> here is a busy. >> if i take a break from my phone for four days can you produce a three page memo of what happened soy wouldn't feel i missed out. then i could catch up -- that's brilliant >> do you have an assistant? >> i would lie through the whole thing. very sorry to hear about your family. >> gosh -- >> you're a downer tonight, man. >> no i'm an upper.
2:52 pm
>> this is his status quo. homeo statstasis. >> on that note one more thing, stay tune.
2:53 pm
2:54 pm
2:55 pm
>> time for one more thing. kimberly. >> this is a follow-up on a story i did in april.
2:56 pm
today president trump a pardon for the first african-american, heavyweight champion, jack johnson. clears him of charges of his relationships with a white woman in 1912, if you can believe. senator john mccain called for the pardon and sylvester stallone went to president trump to lob he other on his be half. there was a oval office event with election on lewis and johnson's family and pugh eonte wilder. >> it's a story of triumph and tragedy. president trump will hopefully pardon this fine american and put him back in the ranks where he belongs as boxings greatest. >> i'm a huge fan of boxing. i watched with my father. he taught me about this boxer as well. this is long overdue. i'm happy this happened. god bless his family and relatives. >> excellent.
2:57 pm
>> you like baseball? >> yes. it's not as good as kimberlys. >> nothing will top kimberly's today. you know when the big mascots run. last night in dallas it was nolan ryan, sam houston, and george w. bush. there was a heckler there getting bush to move forward. watch this. >> reminds me of when president bush decided to run a marathon. his mom was there to cheer him on. she said the same thing "get moving" good thing is the bush character won. >> excellent. >> time for this. greg's commuter news. you know when you hitch a ride. hitchhiking or sharing i don't know a seat. make sure you are inside the vehicle. not like this fella. look at this kid. riding the top of the car. the family was unaware the cat was on the car and clinging to the roof of the van.
2:58 pm
>> the romney car -- >> terrible. it riched a ride for two miles. but good news the cat did not survive. kidding the cat is fine. everyone is fine. they reunited. he's not injured. the cat's name is rebel. >> a cat without a cause. >> the cat was not phased. please don't put cats on the roof of a car. that's not a good thing. >> terrible. >> that is really -- >> where are we now, skresy? >> brace yourself, greg. new study out a extra glass of wine could take 30 minutes off your life. the old study says men could drink 14 nass of wine a week. that was good. apparently that was way off. fake news. apparently 7 glasses of wine for men. that's the way to go. you have more than that, you die young. >> a nice? >> a week. >> oh. >> i was like -- >> yes. >> a new study out says champagne and aspirin is
2:59 pm
excellent for you. prevents dementia. >> who did that study? >> she did. >> bayer. >> no real story. >> the stanley cup is started and the las vegas knights are going against the washington capitols. it's the capitols second stanley cup ever. the inaugural game was played after the tragic shooting in las vegas. it was a moment for the town to come together and honor the victims. it will be a great play. >> the capitols will win. >> nobody cares about hockey tkeufrpbgts just crap all over my one more thing. >> oh, you will get letters. >> you will meet a few hockey players. >> yes, your walk home ain't going to be pretty. tell you that, champ. >> they're not worried about
3:00 pm
losing their seat. >> set your pugh vrs don't mess a episode of "the five." now to dallas. >> thank you, you lost me on the hockey top. president trump cancels the summit with kim jong-un but keeps the door open. allegations of a spy. which party has the stronger message heading into the midterm elections. this is the "special report." >> good evening i'm bret behr. mitch mcconnel joins me fore a exclusive interview in a moment. first president trump has pulled the plug on what would of been historic talks with the north korean leader this. comes after he c
