see what happens. [inaudible] >> john, everybody plays games. >> very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from north korea. we'll see where it will lead, hopefully to prosperity and piece. only time and talent will tell. jam james mattis said the two saturdays may come to table. >> they may pull it off and have it back on. the president sent out a note about that and let you all know that that's a usual give and take of trying to put together big summits and stuff. diplomats are still at work. our plan here in the defense department, that is a fine
6:02 pm
thing. >> the president touted america's increased might in a address in the naval academy. >> we have begun the great rebuilding of the united states military. we have endeds disastrous defense sequester. no money for the military. those days are over. [applause] jeanine: >> and we just secured, you read all about it. a $700 billion largest ever amount of money to support our great war fighters. jeanine: joining us with reaction is cia intelligence officer daniel hoffman and u.s. army bret, and tony taum.
6:03 pm
good evening, gentlemen. daniel, are we witnessing as we look at the last 24 hours from where did it begin with peyongchang saying that the u.s. is looking for an appalling tragedy to occur and the president yesterday cancelling the summit and then, if you change your mind don't hesitate to call. this has been a roller coaster of activity; is this the kind of thing that happens in all diplomatic negotiations? >> i think it is particular to norths korea, the hermit kingdom. it is one of the most closed countries on the planet with a nuclear capability and what is important to note, north koreans played a hand and tried to behave f as -- if they didn't
6:04 pm
want the summit and the disparaged our vice-president and the president called their bluff. and right away the response was conciliatoriy and looks like the summit might be back on. this can only strengthen our hand as we head possibly to singapore next month. jeanine: how different is this in the negotiations with obama? >> it is a lot different. if we have learned in the last 24 hours, that the president's chess moves works. it was the same administration that worked the iran deal we would be begging for them to come to the negotiation's table to sign a paper that is a weak deal. we are seeing a significant event playing out on the world stage and in the end, i think the president did the right thing here. jeanine: general, it was
6:05 pm
interesting listening to defense secretary mattis saying we possibly got some good news. how evolved is the military. it was interesting seeing mattis was front there. >> it is deliberate on the president's part. the military is the teeth behind the information and economic effort that is going on here. and the president is masterfully synchronizing that. the defense attorney has to say with confidence that we can attack and defend and do whatever we need to do and that message is permanent. and he advises the president on the state readiness and the president is forceful in what he's saying that we have had the most trained and ready force. 700 billion defense budget. the biggest ever and that is two key pieces that the secretary of
6:06 pm
defense plays in these negotiations and there is operational stuff on the ground in south korea that general vince brooks and his team will be doing as they hope prepare and head to singapore. jeanine: in like with what the general is saying, north korea released hostage and whether or not that nuclear site is blown up is unusable we are not sure. even thoep it is a back and forth, north korea is doing what it should be doing and president trump said i will not meet you until you denuclearize. >> price of admission for the summit was first and foremost release the hostages and take care of the nuclear test site and they apparently eliminated them. we'll have to wait and see if
6:07 pm
they are really serious in coming to the table and only time will tell. and we did synchronize the message well. secretary pompeo was clear that if they don't come to the table we'll return to pressure. jeanine: demilitarization, okay, a lot of north korean leaders have promised that. how do we verify it. even yesterday with the blowing up of that site, no one was there from our side to substanteate that. >> it has to be verifiable and irreversible. in 2008, we have to look at history here, a bunch of journalist were invited to see the destruction of a cooling tower that extract weapon's grade plu tonnium.
6:08 pm
and the north tornadoes had a separate -- korea had a separate area. and they were deceiving us. and i have not seen defined here, how do the u.s. and north korea truly define denuclearization of the peninsula. when you think about i.t. is one sided and i don't know why they would give up the nuclear arsenal for loosening of sanctions. the president will have to convince kim jong-un who. s regime preservation that he can preserve his regime and give up nuclear weapons in the process. jeanine: he makes a good point. it seems like north korea is doing the moves right now. >> if you look at the letter
6:09 pm
that north korea sends back. it is a bigger conversation when you talk denuclearization. secretary pompeo talked about north korea on parwith south korea. sxch what you have got is an opportunity. and remember kim jong-un was educated we believe in switzerland. and he has a western education and came to power with two visions, his father and grandfather came with a self relint nation and kim jong-un came with nuclear power and strong economy. he may be willing to tradeoff the nuclear power if we come in with building infrastukture. and there is families that is divided and they are the same work ethic in that north korea can be a economic powerhouse and this could be the end game for
6:10 pm
president moon and kim jong-un and trump. jeanine: one of the things that is intchlth kim jong-un seemed to have a personality of one day off of the wall being rocket man and next day reunify and game and his sister is out there. he didn't go or his people didn't go to a meeting where they were supposed to set up the actual logistics for the meet. there was reports that he was afraid of being knocked off. >>na is a challenge for the intelligence community. and they will play an important role in providing intelligence to this administration and to the president on what exactly kim jong-un is thinking and including some of the elites who may be influencing his behavior.
6:11 pm
that is it a theory that is out there and possible that some were concerned he would be moving too fast and wanted to put the brakes on him. i would caution everyone. kim jong-un is in pretty strong control. he has a habit of killing those who threaten him. and he has tronning control over his country and that may be a story that waslet out and might not really be true. i would highlight the value of intelligence on this case. and i would emphasize, too, we are in for the long hall. there is it twists and turns and neither side some expect immediate gratification. >> you know, brent, when you think about it. the president navigated difficult waters.
6:12 pm
even the fact as far as he has gone in contention of the nobel peace prize. >> it is a historic next few months. no sitting president has met a north korean leader and this is no doubt this will be historic. and this is the deal of the century and define the president. you know, in his career and he can't fail at this. and i am rooting for him. i know others are looking to see him fail. but this is it bigger than just in america and the rest of the world. jeanine: contention of the nobel peace prize. >> the president wants this for the world and not a prize. jeanine: he has said that. coming up. president president went on offense against the deep state actors that are trying to

happened. >> jeanine: welcome back to a special edition of hannity. that the president going on offense this week against the deep state. he didn't stop there. he said the temdems are alluding to the concept having an informant placed in opposing party's campaign is different as having a spy. but what about a infornlant that is paid a fortune and who sets up way earlier than a russian hoax. can anyone imagine having spies placed in a competting campaign by the people in absolute power for the sole purpose of advantage and gain. and the expenditure of far more money lost. the president's comments are causing people to lash out. >> what is the informant and
6:20 pm
a spy. >> it is typical of mr. trump to mischaracterize. this is something that mr. trump is it as you said masterful at in terms of twisting the truth to support his narrative. a lot of people compare that the f.b.i. and cia didn't do enough to uncover what russia was doing. this is what the f.b.i. was supposed to do and thank goodness they did it. >> jeanine: joining us with reaction, the author of the book "the russia hoax". greg hand and fenton and fox news krntor charlie hurtz. did the f.b.i. have a basis for a criminal investigation or sufficient intelligence basis to launch a probe. >> they had neither and the evidence is clear and yet they launched the investigation in

then candidate trump and continued it with president trump. and so the president is rightly outraged and i am happy he expressed it that they used a spy to infiltrate his campaign and to elicit and to enduce and entrap people. if it was done for political reason and it was amazing it was. that is a crime and calm would abuse of power. they were depriving candidate trump of his constitutional rights and his right to privacy and fourth amendment rights. >> jeanine: tom, there is a lot of the talk about an informant and a spy. what is the difference between an informant and a spy? >> there is no practical difference. on the part of the obama administration, the top leadership was forced to admit
6:22 pm
they had someone on the payroll of one agency. maybe more than one agency. and which would have been without precedent in at least modern american history. you would have to go back to the '60s to find anything similar in government abuse when you hear clapper and brenar and keepy criticize the president for criticized. they are a list of people who have criminal and civil liability of what went on in the obama administration. and brennan go crazy and attack trump like he is, you have to wonder why on earth was he ever allowed near counter related intelligence and he obviously hated and it explains why they went off the rails under the bum bull administration. >> jeanine: when tom said they obviously hated mr. trump.
6:23 pm
it is not any more clearer. a intelligence community and they hated president trump and when devin nunez appeared to see something cooking and thought the president had a tinfoil hate and devin nunez off his rocker but it is coming to from yourician. >> everyone thought he was behaving beczarly and meeting with in secure locations and all of the prelsz made fun of him. and what we are seeing today, all of the concerns that he hinted at a year ago, over a year ago came to fruition. and as tom pointed out. even the democrats having to acknowledge yes, they did insert a spy into the political campaign. and i think it is unprecedented. you know, we heard of hence of this kind of things in the '60
6:24 pm
and '70s. it was not, i would argue it is not as bad and extensive as. this these people are going, they were actually actively punishing people, political opponents which is shocking. >> jeanine: it is shocking. and the amazing part of it, greg, you have the republicans that are looking at some people whose names we have only heard of. bill pres staff. he was changing the name from gross negligence to extremely careful. and michael stienbac k. and john colog whatever his name is. these are people called before congress. do you think they will take the fifth or tell us what happened? >> so far they have been obstructing. the judiciary committee tried for a year to question high ranking officials of the f.b.i.
6:25 pm
and the f.b.i. is refusing. that is obstruction much congress and a classic trough for people to claim that the f.b.i. cannot talk about a pending investigation. that is true except for congress which has a constitutional duty and a right under a lawful subpeona to obtain this information and tell. it is obstruction much congress to fail to comply. and the president is right to demand as chief executive of the executive branch. >> of that branch. >> the doy and f.b.i. comply with the law. >> jeanine: i have given you credit in the past that you have done things that congress hasn't done. it is your determination of trying to get records that got things that congress hasn't been able to get. so right now, we've got the f.b.i. and department of justice
6:26 pm
who stone walling, slow walking and saying they don't have records when they do have records and they have been lying. what does the president do at this point? he is the chief executive and f.b.i. and justice department are under him. and what should he do to get it out. norder a mandatory declassification review of the documents within a decent amount of time and have outside experts that he trusts review these records and make sure nothing is held inproperly. we are waiting on the text message. there is a process in court for the text messages. he can order the justice department and f.b.i. to comply with the transparamilitaency la

campaign, and after the campaign, why did they do it? the reason they did it with abandon, because they thought hillary clinton would win the election and none of it would come to light and it would not matter. >> jeanine: we know that. what do we do now? >> they think they are going to win control in november and then they will cover it up. i think tom fenton is right. the president should begin declassification and blow it out in to have a how down. these people do work for the executive branch. they are answerable to the legislative branch. >> jeanine: greg final question to you. significance of strzok not testifying, is he cooperating? >> no, if i were him i will cooperate. it is important to tell the
