you are making me rethink that vacation in kabo. >> tucker: that's it for tonight. see you, have the best weekend. >> jeanine: welcome to the special edition of hannity. trump on offense. i am genein piro in for sean hannity. the summit with north korea may be back on. here's what president trump said earlier today. take a look. mr. president, is the summit still off? >> we'll see what happens. it was a nice statement and we are talking to them now and they very much want to do it.
10:01 pm
everybody plays games. >> jeanine: he said we will soon see where it would lead. hopefully to prosperity and peace and only time and talent will tell. james mattis is saying that the two sides may come to the table. take a look. >> we have possibly good news on the korean sumilate. they may have it back on even. the president sent out a note about that. and let you all know that that's a usual give and take you know, putting together big sumiments and stuff. diplomats are still at work. our point of view here in the defense department, that is
10:02 pm
a fine thing. >> jeanine: the increased america might in the naval a address. >> we have begun the great rebuilding of the united states management. we have end happen the disastrous defense sequester. no money for the military. those days are over. [applause] and we've just secured. you read all about it. a $700 billion largest ever amount of money to support our great war fighters. >> jeanine: joining us with reaction is donnial hoffman and bret bellakovic.
10:03 pm
good evening, gentlemen. i am start with you, daniel. are we witnessing as we look at the last 24 hours from where did it begin with wednesday peyongchang saying that the u.s. is looking for an appalling tragedy to occur and the president changing the summit and if you change your mind, don't hesitate to call. is this the kind of thing that happens in all diplomatic negotiations? >> it is particular to north korea, the hermit kingdom which is one of the most closed kingdoms on the county. and chemical and biological and nuclear weapons to go along with it. and important to note that north koreans played a hand. and secretary pompeo said they
10:04 pm
rejected planning meetings and disparaged our vice-president and the national security advisor and the president called their bluff. the response from north korea was conciliatory. it could only strengthen our hand. >> jeanine: how different was this than noerngzs with obama and iran negotiations? >> it is it a lot different. the chess move from the president works. if it was the same deal with iran we would be begging to them to come to the negotiating table for them to sign a paper. and what we are seeing here is a seeing a significant thing. and the president did the right thing.
10:05 pm
>> jeanine: it was interesting listening to secretary of defense mattis talking about we possibly have good news. how victim offed isment military in the negotiation stage? it was interesting seeing mattis up front there? >> that was deliberate on the president's part. and the military is the teeth behind the diplomatic and economic and information effort that is going on here and the president is masterfully synchronizing all of that. and one, to provide the trained and ready forces to say with confidence that we can attack and we can defend and do whatever we need to do and that message is very important. he advises the president on the state of readiness and the president is forceful in saying we have a trained force. and the biggest defense budget ever and that is two key pieces
10:06 pm
that the secretary of defense plays in the negotiations and operational stuff on the ground in south korea that general vince brooks and his team will do as they head to singapore. >> jeanine: and daniel, in line with what general ta tum just said. north korea released hostage and whether or not that blowing up of the nuclear site renders it unusable we are not sure. even though there is a back and forth, north korea is doing what it should be doing and president trump said i will not meet you until you agree to denuclearize. >> yeah, the price of admission was first and foremost release hostages and then take care of nuclear test sites. they have apparently eliminated them. and now we'll have to wait and see whether they are serious
10:07 pm
about coming to the table. and only time will tell. we did synchronize the message well. secretary pompeo was clear if north korea didn't want to negotiate we'll revert to maximum economic military pressure. > jeanine: a lot of north korea leaders promised denuclearization. even yesterday with the blowing up of that site. no one was there from our side to substanteate that. >> right, it has to be verifiable and irreversible. that is a problem. in 2008. we have to look at history there. they are watching the destruction of the cooling tower.
10:08 pm
the north koreans had a separate facility ready to go. and they used an explosion for media coverage, but in the end they deceived us. and one of the things that i haven't seen defined here, is how do both sides define the denuclearization. peninsula? i just don't know why they would give up the nuclear arsenal for the sanctions. the president will have to convince kim jong-un whomentes really regime preservation and a new economic situation, he has to convince kim jong-un that he can preserve his regime. >> jeanine: it seems north korea is doing the moveingly.
10:09 pm
>> you look at the letter north korea sent back. it is a bigger conversation than denuclearization. secretary pompeo talked about having north korea on parwith south korea. remember kim jong-un was educated we believe in switzerland right? he has a western education and came to power with two visions, his father and grandfather came with a self relint nation and military. and so he may be willing to tradeoff nuclear power if we come in with building infrastructure and remember, there are families that are still devided from the demarcation line. and north korea can become an economic powerhouse and this could be the end game for kim
10:10 pm
jong-un and president trump. >> jeanine: one of the things that i found so interesting. that kim jong-un had skis frentic personality and next day he wants to reunify with south korea and games and his people didn't go to a meeting where they were supposed to set up the actual logistics for the meet. there were reports that he was afraid of being knocked off. can you talk about that? >> that is a challenge for the intelligence community. the intelligence community and they will play an important role in providing the intelligence to the president on what exactly kim jong-un is thinking and including some of the elites that may be influencing his behavior.
10:11 pm
that is a theory that is out there and certainly possible that some were concerned that he was moving too fast and they wanted to put the breaks on him. i would caution everyone that kim jong-un is in pretty sdrong control. he has a habit of killing those who threaten him and so, i think he has strong control over his country and that may be a story that was let out and might not be true. i would highlight the valley of intelligence on this case. and i would emphasize, too. we are in for the long haul. neither side should expect immediate gratification and we heard about the extraordinary challenges that await him. >> when you think about it. the president navigated extremely difficult waters.
10:12 pm
even in contention for the nobel piece prize. >> i think so. no president or sitting president has ever met a north korean leader and there's no doubt it would be historic. and no doubt this is the deal of the century and it will define the president you know in his career and he can't fail at this and so i am rooting for him. and i know others are looking to see him fail. this is it big are than just us in america. it is a deal for the rest of the world. ncontention nobel piece prize? >> slightly. i think it is the art of the deal. the president wants it for the world and not the nobel peace prize. >> jeanine: he has said that. gentlemen, thank you very much. president trump went on offense against the deep state actors
