week's show, thanks to my panel, thanks to all of you for watching, i'm paul gigot, we hope to see you right here next week. >> we begin with fox news alert, utah man who was jailed in venezuela for 2 years is about to be home free in america again, on his way to washington as we speak. 26-year-old joshua was released from prison today, had been arrested on weapon's charges in 2016 shortly after he got married. hello, everyone, welcome to news headquarters, i'm ed henry. >> i'm laura ingle, president trump to meet with holt at the white house today. ellison barber, big day there. >> yeah, laura, it is, according to president trump we expect holt to arrive around with his family, 7:00 o'clock this evening, he and his wife boarded a plane in venezuela this morning as ed just said, josh

was a frank candid exchange of views of how to achieve a successful summit involving president trump and north korean leader kim. that summit basically canceled by the white house on thursday and then revived on friday, saturday's meeting according to experts on the ground over the weekend, clearer signal yet that a possible june 12th singapore session could be back on. this amid reports that advanced teams from both sides are on the way to the city, south korean president moon met with president trump trump on tuesday, there were some talk that he was carrying a message from trump to kim in the meeting also perhaps moon has been important go-between for the united states in this matter, pressed kim a little bit more on the key denuclearization issue. remember, this week, we also saw what the north claims are do -- destruction of the north side of the country. that was seen as good-will gesture but no confirmation,

early sunday morning here, ed, in about 5-hour's time we are told the south korean president will be speaking and we should get details about what was said and how real the june 12th summit might be president trump. >> wow, diplomatic negotiations that are really just beginning, paul, thanks for the report. >> for more on this, we want to bring in daniel hoffman, fox news contributor and former cia chief who served in moscow, iran and pakistan. we have a lot to discuss with ever-resolving matter. with your past experience, what do you think is going on behind the scenes with all of this? >> a world wind of activity, we all know that north korea is a hermit kingdom. one of the most closed countries on the planet earth with failed economy and a lot of chemical,

1:07 pm
michael in the washington free beacon, we don't have a north korea problem, we have a china problem. north korea is a wild dog, china holds the leash, the change north korea's behavior change chinese behavior first. what do you make of that? >> well, i think we do have a north korean problem and, i mean, we also have a china challenge as well. that really what this region is about. it's hard enough to break the kim regime's grip, to separate him from nuclear weapons if it were just a bilateral challenge for us with us and north korea but we've got china and allies, south korea and japan and russia has been a very nefarious actor in the region, they've built the north korean internet and allowed them and the russians certainly have an interest like china in ensuring that kim jong un's regime security carries on and so i think the chinese are focused on trade concessions
1:08 pm
from us and pursuing a very aggressive military posture in the region with militarizing the south china sea, they are trying to get away with all of that because they feel that the price of cooperation with north korea should be free hand in the region and that should be something that we shouldn't stand for. >> when you heard sarah huckabee sanders say today that the white house team is still planned to leave for singapore, what did you make of that? >> i think that's good. more planning we do, the better, i also feel like we are creating muscle memory inside the north korean bureaucracy. the more we engage with them, the more we talk about collaboration and cooperation and denuclearization, the better it is for all of us, the meetings between kim jong un and president moon are absolutely of value for us to understand what makes kim jong un tick, i think we will get good leadership

analysis from our allies, while all of this is going on, there's certainly a great deal concern about north korean proliferation, reactor destroyed in 2007 was provided by north korea, so we really have a lot of work to do, certainly in the intelligence community to stay on top of this -- of north korea to ensure that they are not threatening the region and beyond. >> should this summit be back on the table with so much uncertainty, some say the u.s. shouldn't do this until the nuclear threats are wiped out, others say let's get the ball rolling and let's get to the table here. what do you think? do you think this is something that should happen with cia perspective? >> my personal opinion is that the more interaction we have the better, it's opportunity to collect intelligence, it's an opportunity to move the ball forward a little bit, anyone who expect any sort of immediate gratification whether they are in pyongyang or in washington,

1:33 pm
it seems that you are digging a little deeper here. this is very complicated. >> it is, indeed, my "washington post" colleague had some really expensive reporting that shows that not only is there attention but there are at times it has been open hostility and yelling. which i think was a little further. clearly, the president is not happy with performance and is blaming her with things that some of which are beyond her control but some of which might be within her control. she has had a very difficult time explaining her approach to border security and really, her part says the president does not want to listen. >> interesting.some people would say this is more washington, back and forth and the president has a different style. maybe rubs people the wrong way. but you really look at the performance and as you know,

1:35 pm
dropped. and really, the fact that those crossings are up for two months running and the may numbers are about to come in. they are likely to also show that crossings and arrests by us agents are up. that robs him of an important talking point. it robs him of a really important election issue. as we approach the midterms and he is angry about it. >> the other thing that caught my eye is, the border patrol agents came out and basically said, the presidents moved to the military involved and get the national guard to the border is a waste of time and money. i think it is significant because it is not just any critic. as you know brandon judd has spoken on the presidents behalf many times. in fairness, the president has and is not just about what is happening with the white house and secretary nelson. it is about republicans and democrats on capitol hill. frankly they seem paralyzed on
1:36 pm
this issue. >> yes, brandon is also concerned and rightly perhaps, that his agents look like show keepers. the point is that the president wants to do something at the border, it needs to be a real show of force and not something that is essentially symbolic. he has been supportive of the president. it is very interesting and potentially significant point ofcriticism from him . i do not think that the issue really is, has a great deal of overlap with the congressional stalemate. i mean, we are no further along on daca, no further along on border funding, then we were six months ago when the idea of national guard deployment to the border really started to
