never forgive you. we are running out of the shop and final thoughts. terrorists. tyrus: thank you, president trump, for pardoning jack johnson. [cheering and applause] greg: thanks to rob o'neill, chris freedhahahahahahahahahaha. mike: good night. ed: start with breaking news tonight, an american prisoner released by venezuela headed home to the usa. expected to arrive at the white house any minute now. we take you live to washington as soon as that plays out. this as there are major developments on another big international story. president trump signalling there's a chance of salvaging the cancelled summit with north korea. i'm ed henry. you are watching the fox report. joshua holt leaving venezuela earlier today after being imprisoned there for nearly two years on weapons charges. the 26-year-old had traveled there from utah to marry a woman he met on-line. the regime finally releasing him after intense lobbying from the trump administration and senate foreign relations chairman bob corker. utah lawmakers also playing a

key role including senator hatch. a congresswoman says she kept in close contact with holt's family throughout the whole process. >> we worked really hard for the past two years to bring him home. and today i get to say that all of those efforts have paid off and he's coming home and he's going to come home, you know, healthy and be able to, you know, resume a really good productive life. i can't tell you how excited i am. ed: a joyous home coming indeed. the president saying his cancelled summit with kim jong-un could come back while tweeting with new talks with the regime have been quote very productive. the white house says it is still sending a prep team to singapore in case it does happen on june 12th or later date. amid all the uncertainty, former press secretary sean spicer putting the onus on north korea and declaring today on fox news this is a make-or-break moment for kim jong-un. >> kim knows that this meeting is the only shot he has at being seen on the world stage, but the
2:02 am
united states and president trump, vice president pence, john bolton, and mike pompeo, and secretary mattis, are all focused on the fact that we need real concessions and a real work plan to denuclearize the korean peninsula before that meeting starts. i think you will see kim do whatever he can to make concessions if they want to get that meeting on track on june 12th. ed: big news indeed. we will go live to south korea shortly. we start with fox team's coverage on another american hostage coming home. bryan llenas has an in depth look at joshua's story. we begin with ellison barber with the latest from the white house. the president recently celebrated the arrival of three hostages released from north korea. what do we know about how this release went down? >> not a whole lot of details just yet. the latest bit of information we have is coming from a congresswoman's twitter account. she tweeted a few minutes ago that holt is back on u.s. soil and his plane has officially landed. the white house really didn't say anything about this.
2:03 am
the first sense we had that this was even happening was when the president tweeted about it early this morning. holt and his wife boarded the plane and left venezuela earlier this morning and tennessee senator corker was on the plane with them. he is the chair of the senate foreign relations committee. he met with venezuelan president maduro on friday and reportedly played a big role in securing the release of holt and his wife. holt traveled to venezuela about two years ago to marry a venezuelan woman. they barely begun settling in to married life when they were arrested. police raided their apartment and accused holt of stockpiling weapons. they said his wife was an accomplice. the u.s. has long said holt's arrest is political. the announcement of holt's release came this morning on twitter with president trump writing in part, quote, good news about the release of the american hostage from venezuela. the great people of utah will be very happy. vice president mike pence tweeted just a little while ago that sanctions will continue until democracy returns to
2:04 am
venezuela, though saying he's glad to have holt back home. fox news is also hearing from a senior administration official that according to this official, nothing was exchanged in order to bring holt back home to the u.s. ed: a similar situation as we saw with the north korean hostages as well. ellison, what do we know about the president now leaving the door open to that summit with north korea? he sent out that tough letter a few days ago. a lot of his critics say he's blowing a big chance at peace but now it seems like kim jong-un wants to come to the table. >> it seems like the president is possibly open to that idea again as well. at the president cancelled the summit, there was a question of if some officials who we had heard fox had been told by two white house officials that a team would head to singapore this weekend to work out some of the logistics for the summit. we're hearing from sarah sanders today white house press secretary that that is still going to happen. in a statement she said quote the white house preadvance team for singapore will leave as
2:05 am
scheduled in order to prepare should the summit take place. after north korea said they were still open to talks, president trump said the u.s. was once again talking to north korea. some are hoping that the meeting happens, but some would like to see it later rather than sooner. >> this is good news. it means the summit is on track. maybe not for june 12th. in fact, i wish it not happen june 12th because we need to do a lot of preparation. we need to find ways to have our message by one person. i think we're still not comfortable with the strategy we have on denuclearization. >> president trump tweeted yesterday that if the summit does take place, he says it will still happen in singapore, and it potentially could still happen on that previously scheduled date, june 12th. ed? ed: ellison barber doing an outstanding job of standing on top of two stories. thank you, ellison. clearly an emotional day for the family of joshua holt who are calling this release after spending nearly two years in a
2:06 am
venezuelan prison simply a miracle. bryan llenas is here with more. we heard that bob corker the senate foreign relations chairman had a big role in this but it sounds like senator hatch a veteran senator from utah also played a big role. >> no one in washington, d.c. knows about this painful journey the family has gone through over the last two years more than republican senator hatch from utah. this is video of senator hatch greeting jason and laurie holt the parents of 26-year-old joshua holt before they headed to the airport to fly to washington, d.c. tonight to meet josh and his wife tammy. senator hatch's people tell me he called venezuelan president last weekend and made the case that it was time to release the holts after being held for two years without a court appearance. senator bob corker as you heard, the chairman of the senate foreign relations committee, met with maduro yesterday and now the holts are home. a relief for josh's mother, laurie, who has been on this network lobbying for her son's release countless times.
2:07 am
>> right now i'm just trying to hold it together. it's just -- right now i'm just -- i -- it's like i'm in shock. i cannot even tell you the people that have tried and worked so effortlessly to get him home. he has meant a lot to so many people. >> joshua holt met tammy his life on-line. he traveled to venezuela and they married. the plan was to stay down there a couple months until she and her two daughters got visas and they would move to the united states. on june 30th, witnesses say venezuelan authorities flame framed -- authorities framed them by placing a black bag with weapons in it. the holts never saw a trial and nothing was offered in the exchange, and the venezuelan government though their communications minister says this exchange was a goodwill gesture that followed months of conversations between maduro's
2:08 am
government and the u.s. venezuela's in chaos. the trump administration has levied new sanctions on them and the country has ousted america's two top diplomats. in fact this is a video of a riot last week at the prison where the holts were being held. holt posted this video on facebook days ago pleading for help. >> i need help so they have taken the entire prison where i'm at, the people have taken the entire prison, they are outside, they are trying to break in. they're saying they want to kill me. they're saying they want me as their guarantee. >> with this riot in mind, we're told senator hatch told maduro the situation was too dangerous and it was time to release them. ed: bryan, thank you. for more on all this, let's bring in a reporter for axios. good to see you. >> thanks for having me on. ed: first of all it seems like obviously it is a very volatile
2:09 am
situation in venezuela right now. does this seem to you and to maybe from only of your sources as an attempt by the maduro government to show some goodwill as bryan was reporting and hopefully get out of some of the difficult sanctions crippling the economy? >> there's been a lot of speculation that the venezuelan government has been holding this hostage situation as a bargaining chip for asking the u.s. to lower the amount of sanctions. so i think there is something in that. i think the venezuelan government is trying to lessen the tension between the two countries. obviously since last week after the reelection there's been increased tension with the u.s. not recognizing the reelection of maduro. so i think this is definitely an attempt to get on the u.s.'s good side and perhaps move forward in negotiation. ed: as you know, senator orrin hatch a very senior republican he wrote this open letter in january quote to maduro as a leader looking to do what is good and just president maduro has an opportunity to change his country's course with the
2:10 am
release of josh and tammy on humanitarian grounds. this action would be historic step in opening the channels of communication between our two countries with this gesture of goodwill the governments of venezuela and the united states could move forward together towards a better future. obviously a good first step here. there's a long way to go to get this relationship back on track given i see senator rubio and others tweeting tonight that yeah, sure, great first step, but maduro as a dictator has a lot of explaining to do and they want him to step down before those u.s. sanctions are taken back. >> exactly. we have even seen the response from the white house saying that no sanctions are going to be lifted until they see democracy restored in venezuela. this is not going to be someone released and sent home to the u.s. and now we're going to lessen the sanctions but maybe just the beginning of possible conversations between the u.s. and venezuela. >> as we wait this hour for the possibility -- the president tweeted earlier that he would be welcoming josh to the white house, connects back to north korea because obviously it was only a few weeks ago that three
2:11 am
american hostages were released from north korea perhaps a goodwill gesture as well by kim jong-un in that much different and much more complicated international story and i want to talk about those peace talks. let's talk about president trump first. his critics have been battering him on a whole number of issues. this is now two pretty good stories in matter of couple weeks of american prisoners released both in venezuela and north korea. >> absolutely. i think if we look back over the past year or so, releasing americans who are being held overseas is something that the president has taken very seriously and something that he has advocated for and successfully achieved on multiple occasions. i think this is something that's very important to the president. but again, we need to be careful to not put that with other international political issues going on. i think we also have a little bit of whiplash with the north korean summit and we have yet to see whether this will happen, this will take place or not.
2:12 am
ed: whiplash really sums it up pretty well. where do you think things stand as best we can tell at this hour in terms of the north korea u.s. summit, whether it's back on on june 12th or some close date to that? >> right, so it seems that the summit is in better shape than it was earlier this week. the president earlier this week said that the meeting was off and even threatened nuclear war at one point in the letter, but he also kept it open. he's kept it open. this is something that's important to the president. he has been looking forward to meeting with kim jong-un and he's received some criticism but also a lot of praise for the possibility of this happening. and we've seen that kim jong-un is also looking forward to meeting with the president but there are a lot of details need to be made. ed: a lot of details indeed but interesting time. thank you for that insight. we will see you at the bottom of the hour to discuss immigration reform on capitol hill. a lot happening there including a new push on republican
2:13 am
lawmakers to advance their agenda ahead of the midterms. that will be at the half hour. but right now a surprise move as we've been talking about the leaders of north and south korea met for the second time in a month. can they salvage the summit between the president and kim jong-un? we have a live report from seoul, south korea, plus, in hawaii, the lava consuming everything in its path sparking more evacuations on the big island. >> to give you an idea of how vast the flows are right now, we've got approximate acreage is 2,223 acres are covered by lava. it's just a burst pipe, i could fix it. (laugh) no. with claim rateguard your rates won't go up just beacuase of a claim. i totally could've... (wife) nope! switching to allstate is worth it.

2:17 am
vice president pence an indiana native and former governor of course tweeting this earlier today indiana schoolteacher is an american and hoosier hero. >> the president also tweeted about it. meanwhile a surprising turn of events. the leaders of north and south korea meeting today for the second time in a month. this is are remarkable development. the two discussing peace commitments and uncertainty surrounding a possible summit between the president and kim jong-un. greg palkot is live in seoul south korea with the latest. one of our guests just said it was almost like whiplash in terms of how this story keeps changing. >> a lot happening here on this sunday morning here in seoul, south korea. hello, ed. we just gotten the past couple minutes a new line from the north korean state media. let me read you a brief excerpt. they say and i'm quoting here
2:18 am
kim jong-un has expressed his fixed will on the historic north korea/u.s. summit talks. it also refers to those talks, ed, as this is another quote, scheduled for june 12th. so at least on one side, it seems to be full steam ahead for that meeting between president trump and kim jong-un. this of course follows a meeting that you mentioned with south korean president moon jae in along the dmz on saturday. the second time in a month that they have met. it was just about a month ago that they were there. we are told as a part of that conversation, yes, there were frank and candid exchanges of views about how to achieve a successful summit involving president trump and north korean leader kim. that summit was basically cancelled if you remember on thursday by the white house. then revived on friday. saturday's meeting according to some of the experts that we t k talked to here is seen as the clearest signal yet that that june 12th singapore meeting could in fact happen. this amid reports that advanced
2:19 am
teams are already heading there, both not just from washington but also we know from pyongyang. south korean president moon met with president trump on tuesday. some thought that perhaps he might have been carrying a message from trump to kim for this saturday meeting. we will find out about that. also perhaps moon who has been a critical go between for washington on this issue could have been pushing kim jong-un to further commit to denuclearization. that of course is the core issue. we did witness at least saw video at least of it. the dismantling, the destruction claimed by north korea of their own nuclear test site in the northeastern corner of that country. no absolute commitment and no absolute confirmation that that is the true thing. one more line from the state media, ed, i will relay to you, they also say that high level talks between north and south, have had been cancelled by pyongyang because they were upset about the military
2:20 am
exercises are now on again, another sign of warming ties at least between north and south. we are about to hear from the south korean president about his take on the meeting. we should have a sense of a little bit better whether this president trump kim jong-un summit is really happening. back to you. ed: story keeps changing. greg, thanks for staying on top of it. meanwhile, in hawaii, lava flowing quickly, spreading, sparking fears an entire community could be wiped out. just how much has been destroyed so far as the volcano refuses to quit? plus, the immigration battle on hold as congress breaks for memorial day, but major developments could be on the horizon. is the president about to get a deal on daca and maybe even some funding for the wall on the southern border? we will have details coming up m it's absolute confidence in 30,000 precision parts. or it isn't. it's inspected by mercedes-benz factory-trained technicians. or it isn't. it's backed by an unlimited mileage warranty,

ed: breaking news we have been following this hour, prisoner josh holt has now landed on u.s. soil. in fact a white house official is telling the associated press that he landed this saturday evening at washington dulles international airport. and bottom line, these are pictures with senator bob corker from earlier in caracas when they were headed to the united states. they have now landed we're told on u.s. soil, dulles international airport, a few miles outside of washington, d.c. we presume that josh holt is now headed to white house. we are working to confirm that because president trump himself you will remember tweeted earlier today that he was planning to welcome josh holt at the white house this evening. we will see if that happening later this hour. -- we will see if that happens later this hour. if it does, we will bring you to the white house live. more activity from hawaii's volcano that's been exploding for days now with additional evacuations ordered for the big island after several new lava fountains emerged. the oozing lava destroying at least 82 buildings and homes so
2:25 am
far. jeff paul has been live right in the middle of the story for us. he's on the big island. what are you hearing from folks there about the latest on the lava flow? >> well, yeah, ed, we just got our hands on some new video from inside one of the hardest hit neighborhoods, leilani estates for the folks who live in there, who have decided to stay, they might be re-evaluating their decision to stick around as the lava flow is only increasing in size and strength and getting closer to homes. you can see how unpredictable and how powerful this volcano is. there are active fissures that have erupted and continue to spew fountains of lava airborne. those who have chosen to stay have only getting more difficult and dangerous. the flows are knocking down and consuming power lines and more roads are closed off and covered with lava. >> we do have this hope that we're going to go home, but if you look at the history as these
2:26 am
flows, there's no telling what's going to happen. and so you kind of wrap your head around you might have to be restarting elsewhere. >> 4.4 magnitude earthquake erupted near the volcano summit last night. and it sent a plume of ash into the air by about 2 miles. the county as a result now giving out free masks to those who live downwind to protect themselves from the poor air quality. ed: you mentioned there may be some homeowners regretting the decision to stay in their residences. what advise are they getting from local and state officials if they are still in their homes? what advice are they getting? >> that's the hardest part. you really can't do too much to protect your home. you can't put sandbags in front of it or put up a fence. so for those people who have decided to stay, this lava as we said before, it is very unpredictable. no one knows where it is going to go next. that magma while it is slow it will burn and seep pretty much
2:27 am
everything in its path and that path is unpredict bl -- unpredictable. there's a time a fissure will open up and then go a completely different way. they are now bringing in more medical personnel as well as air traffic controllers sort of preparing in the event they order a mass evacuation. ed? ed: a lot developing there. we appreciate your report. the usda meanwhile announcing hormel foods is calling back nearly 230,000 pounds of canned pork and chicken. this after it was discovered that some of them contained pieces of metal. here in the u.s. the recall affects 12 ounce cans of spam classic, with a best buy date of february 2021. you will want to check out the cupboard. meanwhile the white house tackling the big issue of prison reform amid a bombshell report that in fighting on the topic sparked a high-profile resignation in the administration. plus, why president trump's

2:31 am
ed: the house is on the brink of
2:32 am
forcing debate maybe votes on a series of immigration bills after the memorial day recess. that includes measures securing a path to citizenship nor so called dreamers -- for so called dreamers but president also saying any daca bill needs to include funding for the wall and further restrictions on illegal immigration. one republican seems optimistic congress can find a compromise. here a california republican. >> we talked all last year about having a bill. the president gave us a march 5th deadline. we blew past that. but ultimately we've got to secure our border, give the president what he's asking for on 25 billion, but we also have to have a permanent fix for dreamers. we can do both. ed: garrett tenney joining us live from washington. this is an issue that's been around for so long. what's their hope that makes them think they will deal with it this time? >> if you ask g.o.p. leadership they will tell you not a lot has changed. they couldn't pass anything
2:33 am
earlier this year that president trump would sign. this time around there are four proposals. the house is expected to debate. with the recent history in mind, house speaker ryan says this week he doesn't expect any of them will have enough support to pass. >> obviously we don't think a discharge petition is a good idea. . it won't produce a result that would make it into law. we're having constructive conversations with our members about how we can find consensus on a bill that could actually solve the problem and make it into law. >> with the midterm elections coming up, democrats and a number of moderate republicans are eager to push the issue of immigration. it's also still a major priority for president trump who responded to criticism from democrats this morning and again urged congress to take action tweeting put pressure on the democrats to end the horrible law that separates children from their parents. once they cross the border into the u.s. catch and release, lottery and chain must also go with it. and we must continue building the wall. democrats are protecting ms 13 thugs. this week the president also told fox news he is keeping a
2:34 am
close eye on these proposals in the house. >> actually four different bills. unless it includes a wall and i mean a wall, a real wall, and unless it includes very strong border security, there will be no approvals for me because i have to either approve it or not. there are bills going through. i'm watching one or two of them. we will see what happens. >> immigration will be the top issue for house republicans when they return from their memorial day recess and house speaker ryan has scheduled a members only meeting to discuss that issue on june 7th. ed? ed: garrett tenney, appreciate the report. more on this, let's bring a back a reporter for axios. steph, a lot happening or is it a lot of talk and it is not going to go anywhere? >> good question. i think a little bit of both. there is a lot going on right now. the petition is getting close to having enough signatures that there would be votes on these four different immigration bills. at the same time, house republicans are trying to find a compromise outside of those
2:35 am
bills. there are members of more moderate republicans as well as members of the house freedom caucus, more conservative group in the house who are really trying to find a solution for the daca problem. that would maybe win over anybody who is considering signing on to the petition. there are other negotiations going on as well, but the petition is i think about five signatures away from moving on to vote at the end of june. ed: here's what one of the key players on this said about where things stand. >> the final product will not only have border security money in it for the wall, but it will have a bipartisan support. that's the only way that we're going to get a fix on this. ultimately this is not just for republicans or for democrats. this is actually for americans to find an american solution. >> so it's interesting because as you know, the conservative freedom caucus that you mentioned, their concern is that you get to this big debate and
2:36 am
they don't have enough votes perhaps on border security, but you end up with one of the democratic bills that just deals with daca and you don't actually get to the wall. it was pretty clear that in that other interview that the president had with my colleague brian kilmeade here on fox, if that were to pass, he's not signing it into law. it has to have funding for the wall in there as well. >> exactly. and this is what we saw in the senate earlier this year. there are a list of different immigration issues that various parties care about most. and the president is -- has made his list and he is very clear that he wants the wall to be included. he wants there to be tougher security measures among other list of things. but of course the question is also about whether to just allow daca recipients to stay here and work, which is similar to what's in a bill which is popular among conservatives or give them a chance to become citizens here. there are a lot of moving parts and a lot of opinions on each
2:37 am
topic within this immigration issue. ed: if republicans can't come to some sort of compromise and there's nothing more on border security, especially nothing on the wall between now and november, how much of a deflating factor is that in terms of the conservative base getting them to turn out in the midterms? >> you know, i think this is important to a lot of republicans, especially more hard-line republicans. and the president. the president has run on tough immigration since the very beginning. especially the wall. the wall is kind of this iconic picture of his promise to crack down on immigration. i think for some states, for some districts this is going to be important, but in others where there isn't a lot of immigrants there, and this isn't an issue as much, it is not one of the top issues when it comes to midterm elections. ed: all right. another big issue that jared kushner, the president's son-in-law has been working on in the white house prison reform. new york times had this piece about an official who resigned says quote he found himself caught in an ideological turf war between mr. kushner and
2:38 am
sessions. mr. kushner has championed reform to the correction system and more lenient. and mr. sessions has opposed significant parts of the reform bill that mr. kushner backs according to to officials. to say that sessions was already in a pickle with this president with this white house on what they perceive to be a lack of oversight of the fbi and doj officials that perhaps did not handle the hilary clinton investigation so well, to now add this to the mix seems like a toxic brew. >> yes, this prison reform issue has been ongoing for months now. it is something that jared kushner does take very seriously. it is something that he's been pushing for from within the white house as well as on the hill. he wants prison reform and criminal justice reform in general to happen, but as you pointed out, jeff sessions is the law and order attorney general, and he has decided that he will be okay with prison reforms that focus on helping inmates once they come out of prison, but he is not open to
2:39 am
any changes to federal sentencing guidelines. there is a lot of pressure to lower some of those sentencing guidelines, particularly for drug sentences that are non-violent but there has been this ongoing tension between jared kushner and attorney general jeff sessions but also on the hill. there are groups who are pro-prison reform and prison reform only and there are others that are asking that we go beyond just prison reform and really address the high sentencing laws. ed: steph, we appreciate you tackling a lot of big subjects tonight for us. have a good weekend. >> you too. ed: lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are now slamming the trump administration after it announced a deal to save the giant chinese telecom zte. vice chair of the senate intel committee democrat mark warner saying quote this would be a big mistake. president trump should listen to the advice of his intelligence leaders who have unanimously said that zte poses a national security threat to the u.s. jillian -- jillian turner has

2:41 am
president's zte deal is a staggering betrayal of the american people. although trump pledged to fight for hardworking americans, he's now using u.s. government resources to enrich a foreign company. but the president standing firm insisting he's forced zte to change its management, pay a 1.3 billion dollars fine, and commit to buying american parts. he also says it will help get a better trade deal with china the future. all this as the u.s. china relationship also faces major obstacles on the security front. yesterday china's military landed long range bombers on one of its illegal artificial islands in the south china sea. the two countries are also grappling with the north korean nuclear issue and the prospect of the trump kim summit being cancelled. this adds yet another degree of uncertainty to a bilateral relationship now strained in every possible direction. ed? ed: jil yin turner, thank you -- jillian turner, thank you. a historic vote. voters ruled to overturn an

misery to the eastern gulf coast over the holiday weekend. adam, i thought you were going to bring us some good news. what happened? >> unfortunately i'm not bringing good news. we are talking about a real wet one. this one still close to cuba. you are looking just off the coast but really disorganized and a lot of rain already falling in portions of south and central florida. it will continue to move to north at 13 miles-an-hour running out over the gulf picking up a little strength organizing as it moves that direction in the next few days. it is going to linger through this entire holiday weekend. this is the past six hours. the radar loop, you are seeing at times already heavy rain moving across portions of florida unfortunately that's going to continue into your sunday, continue into your monday. so it is no surprise here that we're already seeing watches and warnings for flooding across portions of south florida into central florida and then up along the gulf coast because eventually this is going to run right through the heart of the gulf of mexico and eventually make landfall along the gulf coast. it includes several states here as we're including the whole area. the heaviest rain typically does fall on the right or the eastern side of these so you start to

see right through portions of florida and you get these yellow and orange colors that's suggesting anywhere from 5 to 6 inches of rain, enough to cause flooding, widespread across the entire southeast at least a couple of inches of rain and then where you talk about this making landfall, perhaps there getting up to 10 inches of rain in isolated areas maybe even more. this could be a real rain maker. that's going to be the biggest concern with this particular system. again, as of right now, completely disorganized, but as i run through this, and i will get out of the way, the time stamp, pay attention there, we run through overnight tonight, through the gulf of mexico, picks up a little warmth and strength, it starts to become more of a defined system. rain still battering portions of florida across the keys -- excuse me the coast. ed, i don't think this is going to make landfall until monday night or tuesday and that means rain non-stop for florida all the way till then. ed: wow, other than that, have a great weekend, adam. >> thank you. ed: a sweeping cultural change irish voters backing repeal of
