for parents to look at to look at how to better protect their children in school. it is a simple plan and if you follow a few points i point out our kids would be safer. just the perimeter. we need a perimeter, a single point of entry and metal detectors at the school. those are the things we can do right now to protect our children and teachers because the schools in florida right around where my daughter was murdered, any kid can walk into a school with a weapon. heather: any sort of plan in place to change that? >> yes. we did get a bill passed in florida three weeks after my daughter was murdered that would help but it wasn't specified for metal detectors, there is money for hardening or mental illness, the police will have more

authority to confiscate weapons but without the metal detectors our kids and teachers are protected. and he could could walk into a school. a judge, no shot that a judge is going to go to work in a courtroom if there was no metal detectors. nobody is going to go on a plane in this day and age without going through a metal detector, you're not going to take that on the plane. it bothers me that our children after getting shot up the last two months, 30 kids have been shot in the last couple months, schools are not safe for our kids and the teachers. heather: you went to texas. >> that was heartbreaking. i felt a need to go to texas to console the parents. i met them. no one can understand the grief

that comes, and two families, i would be able to help them out and i was. i was able to go to santa fe and meet with one of the families victims and stayed with them a couple days. heather: how do you handle it? your son had wonderful things to say, how are you doing right now? >> it is brutal. if anyone can say it gets better with time, it does not get better with time. every day from the day they took my daughter from me it is brutal. think about why it happens to me, why it happened to my kids. to this day i don't understand it. but i don't stop. that is one of the things that keeps me going. i have a bunch of projects going
