peace. the ultimate objective we seek with diplomacy from north korea has not changed. they complete and verifiable any reversible denuclearization of the korean peninsula is the only outcome that the united states will accept. north korea has previously confirmed to us its willingness to denuclearize and we are eager see if those words prove sincere. >> dana: president trump believes he will be able to quickly predict the outcome of a high-stakes sitdown. >> i think within the first minute, i will know. just my touch, my field. that's what i do. how long will it take to figure out whether or not they are serious? i said maybe in the first minut minute. the way they say you know if you're going to like somebody in the first five seconds, do you ever hear that one? well, i think that very quickly i will know whether or not something that is going happen. >> dana: let's bring in "special report" anchor bread

fire. his live in singapore. it's been three hours since we talked on "the daily briefing." what have you learned since then? >> bret: it is moving forward. i have learned that sean hannity will have a sitdown interview with president trump. that was alert everyone. that will be interesting. after this all comes to conclusion, the president is leaving sometime today. we don't have a specific time frame as of yet, and that he hold a news conference later on, according to the white house. dana, this is going to be at least 45 minutes with the two leaders and translators alone. at the capella hotel. that is a really interesting moment. to president trump's point, whether he can assess how far they can get down the road this time are set up a structure or framework for next time, that's what's really going to be determined. >> dana: we are going to take it around the table for a round

of questions. >> jesse: hey, bret. i saw video of kim jong un making an entrance into a hotel area. greeted with thunderous applause. i don't know if you have gotten out of the hotel that much, but what is the local flavor on the streets there in singapore? are the expectations and view of donald trump and kim different than they are here in america? has sebastian gorka caused an international incident yet? a lot of people are very concerned. >> bret: thank you for that last question. i have not seen anything about sebastian gorka causing problems. but i have seen a lot of this excitement, kind of fervor about the summit. everything has a picture of donald trump and kim jong un. you are right that there's an iconic hotel here, the maritime sands hotel resort and casino. kim jong un went out last night and did tour the area. he did get a lot of applause at one point as he walked into the

hotel. there's kind of this apprehension about what's happening. nobody is going to get close to this summit but there's kind of an excitement on the streets, impersonators out and about. it's a little surreal. >> dana: bret, we will go to greg gutfeld. >> greg: i thought i would begin with a golf metaphor because i know you love to golf. we are watching the coverage in the media, i think the naive see it as trying to hit a hole in one. so they win a free game. in reality, it's like a par six. you have to have a whole bag of clubs. you're going to be all over the place and you need a couple caddies. >> bret: there really aren't any par sixes. i think the coverage of it is pretty simplistic as far as what is possible. what we know as they are at the table, and we know previous administrations for decades have not been able to get to this

table. we know that three hostages, four if you say otto warmbier, and obviously he passed away, we know they've had some success scaling back the missile testing in the nuclear testing. even though one of those facilities was collapsing apparently. but there are successes before you get to the table. i think the coverage overall, a lot depends on what happened the next four hours when they first meet. >> dana: kimberly. >> kimberly: hello, bret's. thanks for doing a great job over there. looking forward to the coverage. i wanted to ask you some of the behind-the-scenes chlamydia messaging from the white house, signaling reasonable, realistic expectations. in terms of the outcome between these two world leaders. >> bret: there is a little bit of scaling back over the recent days. i hear that this is the first of several meetings likely going back to the reagan summits with

gorbachev. you had geneva was first, and that led eventually to reykjavik and washington and moscow. i think this is a gena-ty meeting that sets up others. the question is how far down the road they can go. and how far the north koreans are really able to get to denuclearize to get economic benefits for their nation. >> dana: juan williams. >> juan: brad, interested in what you said at the top about the president leaving later today, obviously last week they were discussing the possibility of this being a two to three day summits. i wonder what your reporting is found in terms of the decision to leave early. the follow-up, if you have a moment, i will let you answer and then ask a second. >> bret: two thanks for the white house is clear to point out that could change. if things are cooking and there's more to talk about, they

could change the departure date. two, there was a departure date for kim jong un that he was set to leave sometime today. the president was going to leave that open-ended but then i think said i'm going to leave today. we are going to get what we can get. three, secretary pompeo was pretty specific that they had several meetings that they believed were going much more quickly than they thought they would. >> juan: the second questions about what the united states is willing to offer to kim jong un england exchange for declan denuclearization. mike pompeo said it's not the case were talking about removing u.s. troops from south korea. there are questions about human rights and whether or not we would stand up for people like otto warmbier as we seek denuclearization. do you have any idea based on your reporting there about what the united states is offering north korea? >> bret: we are trying to get specifics. we are talking to people behind

the scenes but in public and on the record, secretary pompeo was pressed and wouldn't get into exact's going t happen. a lot is flexible. we are told they are not going to talk about human rights but i'm not told that that's in stone. we are told that they are not going to deal with u.s. troops anywhere in south korea, but we don't know what we don't know in that private meeting between the two leaders. you're going to look at that meeting i think a lot will come out of it and hopefully we will hear more details. the end of the korean war officially, while ministerial in its layout, is a big deal. here in the region. that's probably going to be on the table. >> bret: thanks for staying up. i guess you're going to stay up for another 24 hours. we appreciate it. we will see you tomorrow. we will take it around the tabl table. you have a lot of notes.

>> jesse: these are just your notes that spilled over. you have so much reading material. i go back to this video of kim jong un getting this applause when he walks in like he is this big celebrity. he may actually escape from human rights sanctions. think about what he's done to people. forced abortions, extermination, labor camps, torture. malnourishment of s own people people. and to then kind of weasel out of this as this diplomatic guy that's kind of come into the modern age and that allowed u.s. investment potentially north korea but not have to answer some of the heinous and atrocious acts he has perpetrated on other people and his own people. it's a little scary to think that we would be able to cut a deal. i know you have to cut a deal with heinous people but i think anybody needs to remember what he's done. there has to be some

accountability for the north korean regime for decades of disgusting and inhuman abuse abuses. >> greg: you kind of get to the reality of the switches on the planet there are bad eggs. we know that. would you do with the bad eggs? if you are pro-human, you want more people to live. isn't this kind of the exact step? before you turn out the lights, you decide you're going to turn out the lights, why don't you come over, sit dow talk and show the bad es, with the world could be like if you decide to change. before america or the west decides to make some momentous, consequential decision that impacts 28 million people negatively, through devastation or starvation, you exhaust the possibilities. one of the possibilities if you show the off-ramp before the cliff. we know what the cliff is going to be.

here, trump is that kind of guy that walks around and goes, look at this off-ramp. it's very appealing. this is what you can have. this is the carrot he dangles and the stick which may end up being the case. you have to show the carrot before the stick. >> dana: remember the vice chairman who came to new york and delivered the letter to president trump, he had never been to the west before. apparently secretary pompeo was showing him the skyline of new york city, this is how the real world works if you wanted. >> kimberly: you need to be able to present it in paint a picture of how things can be and have the juxtaposition o what they are facing a north korea. you really think about it, why wouldn't you want economic prosperity and the things we are fortunate to enjoying the united states and western civilization. i think the fact that they meant someplace else is very good. go into neutral ground, go to singapore.

in terms of the transportation. working out the finances behind it for kim jong un. he's going to do what it takes to tried to get them to come halfway and create a deeper understanding of what's at stake here. how can he know if he hasn't experienced it or seen it? to me to president trump, i have to tell you part of it is a little bit of like his love of kind of american lifestyle and pop culture. he's had that kind of fascinatio with american-themed movies and tv series. dennis rodman. you have someone larger than life with president trump, the tv shows, being someone who has "celebrity apprentice," for years. i bet all that has factors into a little bit of his curiosity to be able to come and sit and meet with the man. okay, great, whatever it takes to bring him to the table and then actually accomplish great ends. >> juan: i think what kimberly is saying is the concern of a

lot of people in our foreign service and intelligence community which is we are giving him the meeting. we are giving him the photographs. we are not going to focus heavily on human rights, as jesse is concerned about. but we are giving up something even before we start talking about, are we giving up the presence of r troops in south korea? are we going to offer tremendous economic aid what are we offering? when the president says you get to know someone within the first minute, have you heard about the first five seconds and you can tell this or that. he's trusting his gut. i think all of us have to root for him then route for this got thing. at the same time, i think he may be being set up, dana, it's not great for everyone to have such high expectations because it's the first time the leader of north korea and the u.s. are sitting down. everybody thinks this is it. >> dana: tonight is the first night of the new episode of the season. we will see happens.

talk about alienating our allies in the media? i think obama alienated the israelis, sallies, ukrainians, iraqis. don't all of a sudden lecture donald trump about offending allies. this reminds me of the smoot-hawley tariff act of 1930 when a massive trade war broke out at the beginning of the depression. it wasn't going well for a long time. everybody realized lowering tariffs on both sides of the atlantic is good for business. that's all the president wants to do. they have massive tariffs in the e.u. on cigarettes for instance. 33% tariff on american smokes? i want arican cigarettes in the lungs of europeans. why shouldn't they smoke competitive priced american cigarettes? i don't get it. it's ridiculous. all he is saying is we pay for nato, we pay to protect you.

atmosphere, i heard trump say it. but in fact here's what the world bank says. average current tariffs of the united states, britain, germany, france, are identical. in some cases, lower. trump likes to talk about the difference in trade. he's talking about goods. we do things like services, intellectual property, we have a tremendous advantage. trump doesn't discuss it. then you get this photo, viral photo of trump seated, angela merkel steering over him and you get macron of france leaning in with angela merkel. people say wow. this is unbelievable. this is like america not against justin trudeau but in america against the world. for what? what are we breaking down historic western alliances? >> greg: no, no. when you introduce something like that photo, we have to put in the context they were four

photos. the next one, they are all laughing. catch a photograph of "the five" and we will be like this and then the next minute we're laughing. this is an errant photograph. >> juan: who are you going to believe? >> greg: you are misrepresenting it. there were four photos. you picked one. trust. >> juan: jesse, what we heard from bret baier earlier was that the president's representates have been scaling back expectations over the last few days that he might leave early. what is your bar in terms of success? >> jesse: like kimberly said, it's the start of a long process. i think the goal is complete denuclearization in return for massive amounts of american investment. if we have mcdonald's they are clinicallyn companies in there, and they take their nukes off the table, that solves the security situation as well because we're not going to bomb north korea while we have mcdonald's on american workers there. that's pretty simple. i hate listening to the naysayers because it's boring and it reminds ava chinese proverb. those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those doing it. when obama botched the nondeal, he botched the syrian chemical weapons deal with putin, then
