tv   Tucker Carlson Tonight  FOX News  June 19, 2018 5:00pm-6:00pm PDT

5:00 pm
>> sandra: that is our story for tonight. don't forget to join bill and me tomorrow morning and every weekday morning on the new expanded america's newsroom from nine until noon. bill likes to hashtag that. thank you for joining us, tucker is up next. >> tucker: a good evening and welcome to tucker carlson tonight. it was confirmed today that fbi agent peter strzok was recently escorted out of fbi headquarters as part of his internal review of his conduct there. we will have more on that story in a moment, which is developing. but first with midterm elections approaching, democrats need an issue to motivate their voters. the russia hoax won't do that, it's fast deflating. may be pictures of families being separated on the order will move people toward the poles. in case you're wondering, what
5:01 pm
you're watching on television this week is a political tactic obviously. but that's not all it is. some thing else is going on, something terrifyingly real. it sounds like extremists, possibly because they have become like extremists. the left is no longer working to convince those who disagree with their views, they are working to destroy anyone that stands in their way. this is total war to them. just one year ago, public figures did not throw comparisons at their political opponents. on the rare occasions when they did to, the adl scolded them and they apologized rightly. now it seems like every time you turn on cable news there is some democrat likening somebody he disagrees with to hitler. >> this is the united states of america, it isn't nazi germany. >> bottom line, donald trump looks like hitler in the nazi
5:02 pm
germany. >> this is a policy that is in pain, they are tactics that have been used through history by the worst purveyors of evil including slave traders, including nazis and terrace. >> tucker: nazi comments have become so common that now there is a search for even harsher comparisons. anyone who supports border enforcement is likely giving aid and comfort to. watch. >> i'm just thinking stephanie in terms of logistics of taking care of these people. i'm just worried about how many are sending up to go and work in these places. >> the anchor who said that by the way works for npr, the official soundtrack of lifestyle liberalism in this country. and they were watching the
5:03 pm
coverage of the policy on the show and they donated two and a half billion dollars to npr. that's the most overfunded news organization in the world and the rich get richer. perfect. notice what liberals aren't doing, what apparently has not occurred to them no matter how outraged they have become this week. spend money on american kids, and god knows those kids need it. 13 million american children are now growing up in poverty. many of them live in conditions worse than the children you are seeing held by ice. in the liberal run cities, public schools have collapsed. learning has largely ceased to exist in violence is rampant. most of these kids are growing up in shattered families in marriage is almost nonexistent in many of their neighborhoods. for that reason, many will go on to prison where they will likely be separated from their own children. it's a tragedy, and it just because it has been going on for
5:04 pm
decades, and it has, doesn't make it less awful. the less immigration policies make the lives of these american children worse. the schools can't cope with student body who doesn't speak english. jobs pay less because the left has imported a new serf class that will work for less then minimum wage. it helps them come but it does not help the poor. no one in santa monica cares at all. but newly mentioned theologians hillary clinton and nancy nanci have been telling us all week that sometimes the bible makes that point. the curious factor is these are the same people who tirelessly promote unrestricted late term abortion for no reason at all including selection. not joking at all, look it up.
5:05 pm
how exactly does that work? unfortunately, they declined to come and explain that, but we get it. in the meantime we are joined by peter peter chris know. thanks for joining us tonight. >> great to be with you again. >> tucker: what is so striking about this? and i'm not just for the record defending this or any other government policy? i am merely fascinated by the focus and the attention and the priority that this has revealed, this story about separation on the border on the american left. if you are worried about the plight of children, what about the 13 million american children living in poverty? why have liberals given up on them, given up on schools and the job prospects? if that has changed. >> it has changed and it's been changing for quite some time. it's a function of the fact that for a long time at least with
5:06 pm
the blacks in the inner-city, liberals have taken the political clout and importance of blacks for granted. forever, frankly, liberals counted on 90% of the black vote. if they get less than 90%, they can't win. so if you have to look for a new block of voters, and they hoped that by the immigrants coming over, that also includes hispanic voters and that includes the abandonment of blacks. why work for the black vote and as you mentioned the educational levels, and in my neighborhood i
5:07 pm
haven't seen cnn or msnbc 24/7 as i have with respect to the alleged outrages at the border. the interesting thing here is, ironically, the issue of the day, immigration. if you take a look at the policy prescription and the democrats to the left, those policy prescriptions actually have a linear correlation to many of the maladies and pathologies affecting the black community. and that has family formation, and 4,500 black kids will be separated for their families because their mothers are going to be incarcerated.
5:08 pm
not for on average a few hours like 30% of the illegal immigrants of the border are being separated, that's not what we are hearing. in contrast the black kids will be separated from their mothers for several years. they may not know their mothers during their childhood at all, and thank you, peter chris now. good to see you. not even a decade ago, the top senate grandma kratt was speaking very differently on the question of integration. >> illegal immigration was wrong, plain and simple. until the american people were convinced that they will stop future flows of illegal immigration, they will make no progress on dealing with the millions of illegal immigrants
5:09 pm
who are here now. people who enter the united states without our permission are illegal aliens and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who enter the u.s. legally. >> tucker: something changed, and it wasn't the nature of illegal immigration, it was the electoral calculus of those in power. chris heine is a radio show hos host, and, you may disagree with the policies of the other side, but you shouldn't compare people to hitler. in the last three days, i've seen it over 20 times on television. all of them from the left. when did we decide it was okay to refer to fellow americans as nazis? >> i don't think we haven't decided that. it is very disturbing.
5:10 pm
they have to be ashamed by what is being done of the president of the united states, to people seeking a better like. there's a lot of things that i'm offended by it. the fact that your boss chuck schumer advocates for long-term abortion enrages me. >> that is not true. >> tucker: it is true, actually. >> let me just -- let me just correct you. >> tucker: why would you make excuses for that? >> let me start by addressing your abortion point. roe v. wade took the state out of abortion. it is a woman's choice and people defend a woman's right to choose and not have the state dictate them. what's happening at the border right now is being done by the
5:11 pm
president to a group of people in our name. >> you are missing my point to. >> that's actually -- look. i don't want to have an abortion debate with you. but here's how they are similar. we disagree. i think that lives are being taken and i think it's immoral, but we are not referring to the people that see that policy as nazis because i think things start to fall apart when you don't control your emotions this comic is sufficiently to have a rational conversation. and the left isn't even trying. >> and, when people say they are starting late-term abortions, no. they are supporting a woman's right to choose. the united states of america is taking people from their mother's arms. that is wrong, the president alone can fix it and he should.
5:12 pm
>> tucker: do you ever pause and think, maybe this is it has happened before, more than 4,000 african-american women are separated by forcing them to go to jail, just like people who face felony charges for reentry go to jail. that doesn't seem to bother the left, why is that? >> people who commit felony should go to jail. people who are coming into this country and seeking asylum should not be separated from their children. even though crossing the border is a misdemeanor, not a felony. >> tucker: if you cross a second time after being set out, it's a felony. that's true. >> okay, i don't -- you are wrong. >> tucker: does it bother you that people busted for misdemeanors before being convicted of anything are innocent in the eyes of the law, and are separated their
5:13 pm
children? it happens all the time. you never say word one about it in our name. no one ever says that about a happening to americans. >> i'm not calling anybody a nazi. i'm saying what is happening at the border is un-american. politically speaking, you hit the nail on the head, it's a hot political issue and it's not changing. apparently, because whatever it takes you guys will do. >> oh please. >> ryan patrick is a attorney in the district of texas. he joins us tonight for clarity on what's actually happening at the border. give us a snapshot of what it looks like through your lens. >> the southern district of texas is the epicenter of what's going on.
5:14 pm
it's up to 75,000 family units crossing the border and mainly concentrated in the mcallen area. so what the attorney general memo said was, to prosecute all cases referred to us by border patrol and that's exactly what they are doing. >> tucker: so from your perspective, and you are one of the keepers of the numbers on this. the incident of family units trying to crossover illegally has risen dramatically, it sounds like. >> it has. and for the last decade, the attorney general as you said is basically a magic wand waved over people who cross illegally with children and they were for the most part not referred to for prosecution. and i believe that's being misstated and misinterpreted. the department of justice, my office, is not involved at all.
5:15 pm
the people misrepresent themselves and claim asylum legally. we are getting referrals from border patrol and other agencies who catch people who are crossing the border illegally. they can make their claim or any other claim that they believe they have after the prosecution, but the zero-tolerance policy that was rolled out back in april by the attorney general says that all people are going to be treated equal under the law which is that, we will take all cases referred to us by border patrol, so there is cause to prosecute them. >> tucker: thank you for that clarification. >> it goes by that same. you know the major networks have been leading with this border story and hysterics have defined the tone. watch. >> children are being separated from their parents, part of the trump administration
5:16 pm
zero-tolerance policy. cracked down in the meat illegl immigration has split families and members of the republican party. >> thousands of the children taken from their families and being locked behind change it, fenced walls like cages. >> tucker: it's not like there was other stories to cover, oh wait. there was. over the weekend, 23 americans were shot in trenton, new jersey. it was one of the biggest mass shootings of the year. have you heard about it? probably not until now. you certainly haven't heard the anti-gun rhetoric that was ubiquitous until about a month ago. you haven't seen any marches or anyone attacking the second amendment. how can we go after guns when a single migrant remains on admitted to the united states? beverly holberg joins us tonight. it's a little weird that you could have a mass shooting in the country won one political party pledged to stop them forever and they don't even
5:17 pm
notice. was it because they were mostly foreign blacks that they didn't notice? >> i'm not sure. i would never bring up another story. i would encourage even your viewers to take a look at the mainstream media twitter accounts, and those stories are buried if you can even find them at all. it seems that there is a story that the left wants to put out there, and don't get me wrong. i think the issue of what's going on in the border does deserve media attention. the president did change a policy in that he is now following the laws that are on the books. but at the same time there is other news as well, and so much devoted to this coverage with rhetoric that i would say is very damaging and leading to a conversation on how to deal with this complex issue. >> tucker: it's hysterical,
5:18 pm
and it's extreme. and, you are a lunatic if you think that's okay. and my misstating this? >> no, not at all. if you invoke language like calling someone a nazi, it does not lead to actual conversations about how it solves the issue. and even looking at some of the issues as far as how they are covered and how much time is devoted, the media research center came out with some interesting data. they took a look at abc and nbc and cbs over the past six days, and there was three hours of coverage devoted between evening and morning newscast. when this was at its height under the president obama administration, there was a roughly only 6 minutes of coverage even though "the new york times" came out with a story saying that children with their parents were stuck in horrific conditions. at the story should be covered, but why is there an unfairness about it and i think what it
5:19 pm
leads us to believe is that if the network doesn't like the president, this is the story they want to run on because they think they can win on it. speak one it's when they become extremists that it starts to freak me out. peter strzok's a lawyer just confirmed that he was escorted out of fbi headquarters today. what was happening inside? we have some sense of that, and we will tell you next nothing sar like a beach trip,

for a free sample visit tena.us it's just a burst pipe, i could fix (laugh) no. with claim rateguard your rates won't go up just beacuase of a claim. i totally could've... (wife) nope! switching to allstate is worth it.
5:22 pm
5:23 pm
>> tucker: apparently peter strzok somehow worked with the fbi tonight collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck despite being exposed as a political operative who promised his girlfriend that he would stop donald trump. keep in mind he was at the center of an investigation into both hillary and the current president. but he may not be getting off scot-free. last week, he confirmed his client was escorted out of headquarters as part of an internal probe of his conduct there. then he said that strzok had played by the rules and respected the process and lamented that he would face quote personal attacks. we've been following this story from day one, and byron will tell us what's happening. >> we are not entirely sure. my guess would be it has to do with the finishing up the ig report.
5:24 pm
he was investigating five people for bias, and certainly peter strzok and lisa page and three unnamed fbi employees with those five people. so many people want to know that, in fact they believe it would be better to have them inside or outside the tent as this investigation was going on. but nobody is entirely sure. he was demoted in a really big way and july. when the ig went to robert mueller and brought these texts to muller's attention, before that, strzok had worked and been a central figure in the investigation from the beginnin beginning. >> tucker: so it's not as simple i guess as the attorney general saying you violated the most basic precepts
5:25 pm
of public trust? you have to leave? it's possible that there is some further use that he might have for them? >> as possible, and there are other involved too. there is fbi attorney number two, he's the one that said leave a lot of resistance, talking about his opposition to trump. also, worried about what he could have done differently to make sure that hillary clinton did not lose, and then there were two agents referred to fbi agents one and five, all of whom expressed serious anti-trump animus. >> tucker: so byron, i have to ask as someone who has known you for more than 20 years. have you ever seen a moment like this, the level of emotional intensity and hysteria, the left calling its opponents history hitler every single day on every single show. where is this moving exactly? >> are you referring to this new
5:26 pm
parent separation thing or the russian thing? >> tucker: all of it. i think there are two sides to this story but i don't think there are two sides to calling somebody hitler. it is so over-the-top, and yet it seems kind of normal now for the left in washington. i've never seen anything like this in my whole life. >> it has indeed, and a former head of our intelligence agent, and some other societies separated parents and children as well. and you are absolutely right. there is this insane rhetoric coming on, and it's now shiftin shifting. it's a political discussion and, it's actually going to clarify everything. i think a number of democrats, there are solutions to this problem. there are solutions to expedite
5:27 pm
judicial hearings on people who have crossed into the united states illegally, and to deport more quickly than many thousands who are not granted asylum. we will see if democrats actually want to accept a solution like that. >> tucker: of course they don't. but we will see. the confederacy is switching a school namesake from a confederate general to barack obama. things are changing, we will discuss it next. also, a political ad out of the state of minnesota. >> here in the land of 10,000 lights, we know how to put out a fire. yesss! linzess treats adults with ibs with constipation or chronic constipation.

5:32 pm
this perspective if three years from now, a school in alabama changed his name to donald trump elementary school? >> he didn't enslave anyone or take any indigenous peoples land. i think he's an okay figure to name things after. and i have no doubt -- >> hold on, what happened. so you are saying that as long as i like the guy -- >> i never said that. -- he never did anything wrong. >> i said that he is one of the least problematic presidents that we have a name things after. remember there were two schools -- there are two schools
5:33 pm
named after richard and nixon. there are two schools in this country. there is a highway named after george wallace and this quotation from alabama. >> i agree. but just to make sure i understand, it's paid for by the clinton foundation, the library foundation. but this isn't government school. this is -- >> this is -- let's not take things out of context. >> tucker: the context is the school is and most of the african-americans -- >> they consider him to be a transcendent figure in that community, and -- >> tucker: but then there is some school where trump is a transcendent figure. >> we are not naming things against trump. >> tucker: let me ask you this sincerely.
5:34 pm
he has no power right now. >> in the world? >> so, is this -- obama is a powerful person. does this have any effect, in every city around america. especially ones with the worst schools. you see the symbolic debates going on about how we make kids feel better about themselves, which i'm not against. but doesn't have any effect on their lives? i can tell you that, i think it's insulting. i think as a parent, it would insult me if it was my child and it would certainly give me a certain view of that school system if my child had to go to a school that was named after someone who fought to keep them enslaved. >> i got it.
5:35 pm
but will actually have any effect? will it make the kids more successful will it make their lives better? honestly do you think that it well? >> if there is a figure that is transcendent, a figure whom you look up to and they can look in the mirror and say, that person looks at my dad or looks at how i will look in the future, i think it could have a positive effect on their self-esteem. >> tucker: i don't think it matters. >> but it actually affects learning outcomes and we know that for a fact. >> actually been out just the opposite. the kids who score highest on the map have the lowest self-esteem. and at the opposite is also true. the kids with the highest self-esteem tend to get the lowest scores. the self-esteem is total garbage. yes, it is, look it up. great to see you come professor. >> nice to see you. >> tucker: of course we have a wave of incredibly weird and new

>> believe that the nra. their pro-gun policies have resulted in dead mothers and dead fathers. >> it's incredibly painful. >> it has been a big year for subtle political ads and we are just getting warmed up. richard paynter is running for democrat percentage in the state of minnesota and he just produced what some are calling a dumpster fire up and add it. watch this. >> some people see a dumpster
5:41 pm
fire and do nothing but watch the spectacle. some are too scared to face the danger, or they think it will benefit them if they just let it keep on burning. others shrug and say, all this talk of a dumpster fire is just fake news. there is an inferno raging in washington, but here in the land of 10,000 lakes, we know how to put out a fire. i am richard painter and i approved of this message. >> tucker: richard painter joins us tonight. richard, thanks for coming on. so here we have this metaphor. trump is a dumpster fire, but you have a literal dumpster fire in your ad. because you are running from a state with lots of water, you put out the fire. how did you come up with that?
5:42 pm
>> while the dumpster fire in washington isn't just about donald trump, although he certainly contributed a lot to the dumpster fire. it has been steadily getting worse over the years, and a lot of it has to do with our system of campaign finance and it refuses to let congress regulate the campaign finance. then you have k street lobbyists, and i'll talk of that you have financial conflict of interest of not only -- >> tucker: so it's an inferno like you said. >> is an inferno, absolutely. >> tucker: it's an inferno, he said that in the attic. if you look fiercely at the cam a camera. what kind of reaction have used received to this attic? >> while a lot of people share my concerns about what's going on in washington, it is a dumpster fire and we need someone to put it out. we need a constitutional
5:43 pm
amendment to repeal this so we can get campaign finance under control. do you have any firefighting experience? >> well i spent two and a half years on the bush administration as a chief ethics lawyer. i saw what goes on in washington, and it goes on and both parties. this is a concern for all americans, the corruption in washington, the k street lobbyists, you have members of the house and senate on stocks and health care companies and energy companies. you have the president of the united states with the trump administration. >> so if you came to washington and served in the congress and you were walking down a street on capitol hill and you saw a dumpster on fire, i would you respond to it? >> well, i think i would call the fire department on that one. >> tucker: oh come on now.
5:44 pm
you come to washington and you see an actual dumpster fire and you don't respond and you call the firemen? >> you have to get the fire department over there because my expertise is dealing with a dumpster fire and politics in washington. the corruption in washington and the corruption of our campaign finance. >> tucker: it sounds like you are promising to get elected. >> i'm talking about the dumpster fire and washington, d.c., capitol hill and the white house. >> tucker: all right. >> we need a lot more, we better get it done. >> we went to the same high school, i appreciate that about you. good to see you. the left is now debating that kindergartners get training against what they are call toxic of masculinity. obviously that's insane.
5:45 pm
our liberal sure about joins us next to explain why it is a good idea. geico helps with homeowners insurance? good to know. been doing it for years. that's really good to know. i should clean this up. i'll get the dustpan. behind the golf clubs. get to know geico. and see how easy homeowners and renters insurance can be.

5:48 pm
5:49 pm
>> tucker: is spending millions of dollars fighting something called toxic masculinity and colleges somehow remarkably hasn't made this country much better. and yet, some want to triple down on that idea. at the university of wisconsin in madison, one professor said we need specialized training against toxic masculinity beginning as early as a kindergarten. only when 6-year-olds are taught about quote intersection l.t. and masculinity will he be truly free. do you believe that? the founding publisher of catalina magazine, she is our
5:50 pm
local sherpa and she joins us tonight. if you were to take a 5-year-old and talk about the intersexual analogy and identity, what do you think that would do? >> we would talk about courtesy, politeness, being equal to others. not being aggressive. boys will be boys, we have all heard that. that's not going to fly anymore. the future thinkers and leaders of america are going to be in a matriarchal society, not little patriarchs. they will not be full of toxic masculinity, it will be more of a natural masculinity so we will have less crime and less violence. it will be a better place to live. >> tucker: should we have less -- so boys can be boys but girls can't be girls? >> girls can be girls because they are not the violent ones in our society. boys commit three times more
5:51 pm
violent men than women. it's a fact, so girls are doing it right, boys are not. >> tucker: do you think, and you've lived in this world for a while now. they are literally the unhappiest people in the world. the most damage relationships with their own fathers, isn't this an outgrowth of their deep unhappiness as people? >> if there was a woman who wrote against ddt, the pesticide that was killing insects and pests, but was also killing birds and bees. >> tucker: rachel carson, yes. >> so was she unhappy that birds were no longer singing? the toxins were helping crops but they were killing nature, so it's the same idea. >> so ddt is a man-made
5:52 pm
