this as we leash that strzok had to be escorted out of fbi headquarters. doug is live in washington, d.c. with the latest. good morning, doug. >> strzok was reportedly escorted out of fbi building yesterday although it sounds like he still has a job. that aspect of it isn't quite clear at this point. but future is far from clear. the extended hearing yesterday on capitol hill was something to watch, before house committees and inspector general of justice department was asked about strzok and text messages that he shared with employee, one of them saying that donald trump would not win the presidency because, quote, we will stop it. >> do you believe this text shows political bias? >> i think as we found it clearly shows a bias state of mind. >> if so, do you believe the political bias shown by this text had an affect on the initiation of the russia investigation in.

>> i think as you know, mr. chairman, that's a matter we have got under review and are looking at right now. >> they prejudged the outcome of the hillary clinton investigation before the investigation ended an these exact same fbi agents and attorneys prejudged the outcome of the russia investigation before it even began. >> strzok's attorney wrote in usa today that it should move forward without political pressure. went out of their to provide leaks and news reports didn't overplay the seriousness of the investigation. these aren't the actions of partisan conspirator. strzok is a key player to watch, involved in clinton e-mail investigation and early stages of the russia probe, heather?

appreciate it. >> thank you so much. glad to be here. heather: breaking down roughly two bills which president trump has allegedly thrown support behind. the first one, let's talk abcompromise -- about compromise bill? >> provides path to citizenship, true amnesty to 1.8 million aliens in daca population and provides benefits to other minors who were here as children of individual who is have nonimmigrant visas, the goodlatt bill only provides a renewable three-year status, nonimmigrant status for the 690,000 daca recipients in the united states. they each have very similar provisions as they relate to interior enforcement. the compromise bill funds the wall $25 billion, the goodlatte

provides funding for wall but doesn't necessarily guaranty it'll be year to year but likely will be. the compromise bill does not have crucial aspects, mandatory e-verify provision, it doesn't cut funding to sanctuary cities and doesn't break chain migration each of which the goodlatte does and the president called for. heather: exactly. what do you think the president has thrown his support behind both or either including compromise bill, is it because of funding part of the compromise bill? >> i think it's the funding part of the compromise bill and strong enforcement provisions that are in each. the enforcement provisions are stronger in goodlatte bill but i think they are pretty strong enforcement provisions that are better than prevailing law in each of the bills. >> so which one had a better

chance of passing the house in. >> the compromise bill probably has a better chance of passing the house simple you because it provides path to citizenship, amnesty for the daca population. i think that there are a number of republicans who definitely want to make sure that they never have to revisit this issue which they may have to do with the goodlatte, that one probably has a better chance of passing but the goodlatte bill is a better bill. heather: sounds like both bills have a lot of what democrats are looking for and a lot of what in the past say they support, what's the issue now? >> there's really no impetus on the part of the democrats to come to any sort of agreement right now. there are 3 injunctions in place right now that prevent the end of daca. daca is not going end in foreseeable future. there's no real risk that any of these daca recipients are going to be removed from the united

including children were just apprehended. he joins us live from mcallen, texas, right now with the firsthand look at what is happening now. good morning, griff, what's the latest? >> good morning, heather, this is the largest processing center for the border patrol in the country behind me. we went out with the chief manuel padilla to find out what happens when they encounter apprehensions, some including children, take a look. more illegal immigrants have been apprehended crossing the u.s.-méxico border here in rio grande valley center than any other point of the entire u.s.-méxico border. many of them taking this very path. >> so, griff, this is one of the crossings that's exclusively used by the cartels to smuggle family units and you can see all the trash, huge numbers. >> looks like a children's backpack.

a diaper. so clearly a very small -- >> yes. >> an infant was brought here. >> the group that we apprehended, the group of 17 crossed this very spot today. griff: they did. >> yes. griff: 17 migrants had been stopped apprehended for crossing illegally. what do we have here? >> griff, what you have here is a group of illegal aliens primarily composed of family units and potentially some unaccompanied children. griff griff chief, can you ask her if she's frightened coming as unaccompanied minor? >> she has heard that we treat them right. griff: that you treat them right. >> he's coming from guatemala, zero idea on zero tolerance policy. griff: will the children be separated right now from their parents, would it happen at the center, what will happen to

them? >> absolutely not, they are transported to the processing center. at that time we start running checks on the adults, if there's criminal history, immigration history. they are processed accordingly, if they are eligible for prosecution, we will prosecute the adults that have entered illegally. when somebody is put through the process of prosecution, they are temporarily separated from the children, just like any u.s. citizen would be. it's a difficult situation, not ideal but we reached numbers that are just, you know, become a crisis. we need to get congress to do something with the immigration law and make sure we can address this situation. these people are not trying to evade the border patrol, they are actually looking for us to turn themselves in and what happens with that is if there is no consequence to to illegally, it keeps growing and growing. >> then the calls came in, more

there's debate playing in capitol hill in washington and quick note if i could add, this center was created in 2014 in response to surge in immigration, at that time officials said was viewed as much better situation than what previously existed. today it's being attacked for its conditions, heather. heather: all right, will i definitely trust your opinion seeing firsthand, appreciate it. doj inspector general, the other big story confirming that he is, in fact, investigating antitrust fbi agent peter strzok and whether bias had impact on beginning stages of the russia investigation this as the embattled agent is escorted out of agency's headquarters, so has the credibility of the mueller probe been compromised, here now to weigh in former cia, daniel hoffman. >> my pleasure, good to see you. heather: you worked for 30 years to u.s. government.

taking a look at this, is this how the intel community is supposed to operate. everything that you've heard over the past couple of days from the her wits -- horowitz hearings. >> i've worked for the fbi for 30 years and i have lots of friends who are serving there. they are important as institution telephoning national security from state actors like russia, china and terrorists and criminals and we need the fbi to operate with highest level of professionalism. i read the report with great interest, 586 pages, they interviewed over 100 witnesses, very comprehensive report and what's disconcerting, it casts a shadow, degree of concern over the issue of political bias which should never enter into any investigation even the appearance of political bias. and that's really where the concern begins and that's something that i think there's a lot of follow-up, debate and

discussion about that justifiably so. heather: let's take a look at all the people in recent doj or cia depastor either resigned or demoted. that's an awful lout. is that a good average of what you would see? >> well, i think there's concern about fbi leadership at the very top creating climate of professionalism and that's one area where director comey has been criticized. they are looking at the leaks for his professor friend in colombia back in february, yeah, that's greatly disconcerting and we rely on the fbi to be unbiased. there's nothing wrong with party affiliation, we all take an oath to swear to uphold and defend the constitution but we also look for people who are qualified and don't allow any political bias to seep into their performance on the job. >> when you hear text messages specifically from lisa page and

peter strzok going back and forth, she says, and i will paraphrase, he's never going to be president, right, you have strzok responding, no, no, he's not. we will stop it and as we heard in hearing yesterday, who is we and what is it. i think everybody is smart enough to figure that out. >> right, peter strzok, deputy assistant director peter strzok, had had had a position of great authority and there are deep questions -- first of all, what was he doing using phone, that was official fbi phone to text his -- his colleague and lover, lisa page. heather: not only strzok and page but three other unnamed so far bureau staffers were passed onto fbi's office of professional responsibility for possibility disciplinary action. >> yeah, director wray has been forthright about some of the

measures he needs to take with fbi. they have plans for training and countering leaks and, of course, finishing this investigation and holding those who deserve to be held accountable is going to be extremely going forward. i can tell you this is a self-inflicted wounds and our enemies starting with russians and chinese, not to mention countless others in organized crime world, they have to be pleased with what we have done to ourselves in this case. we need -- director wray is on the hot seat to make sure fbi can ride the hot ship here. heather: they were looking to interfere one way or the other, they managed to do it. >> they are seeking to degrade our institutions and this time we did it to ourselves. heather: we appreciate your expertise in this area. >> thank you very much. heather: have a good day. 20 minutes until the top of the hour and targeting men and women in blue. california lawmakers demanding new policy rule book that could make it hard the other protect

both respond today what you did. as we take a look at their responses, let us know, you mentioned, what is the law and why do -- why is it a bad thing to go slow in fast lane. >> right. the law is different from state to state. the important thing to remember is what we say is driver right, pass left, if you simple the simple rule, you will be fine and the reason behind the law is just to give a clear lane of travel and keep photographic flowing smoothly. many crashes we have when traffic starts to back up and long line of cars and that's when crashes occur. this is given free path to speed and clear traffic and make smoother. heather: definitely make sure that we make clear. not free pass to speed. heather: this particular incident, the woman was driving really slow, what happened, what type of citation did she get and did you find out why she was

driving so slow? >> right. well, and the key is with this, she wasn't necessarily driving extremely slow but she was in the left lane and not passing somebody which tied up traffic. i stopped her and told her why there was a violation and she was receptive to it and understood where i was coming for and i did give her a warning. a written warning and explained the law to her and she appreciated that. but as matter of my job as public information officer i thought it was important to share what the law is and make people aware of it and it spread from there. heather: it's very important. when you are trying to pass in the lane and somebody going so slow and you're like move over, move over. say to us again, one more time, drive right, what was the saying? >> drive right pass left. heather: got it. >> if people remember that, you won't have a problem and like i
