7:02 pm
of liberty yesterday to waive the abolish ice banner leading to the evacuation. plenty of citizens it didn't get to see it. after hours the protester was finally pulled down and arrested rightfully so by law enforcemen law enforcement. she could barely wait to speak out to the public following her release. listen. >> michelle obama. our beloved first lady, i care so much about. she said when they go low, we go high. i went as high as i could. [cheers and applause] >> pete: risking the lives of law enforcement in the process. naturally president trump was game to take her on and his montana rally. >> did you see that clown yesterday on the statue of liberty? the guys that went up there? i would have done it. i would've said let's get some
7:03 pm
nuts. let's wait till she comes down. get some nuts. the bravery of doing that what a group. clown's rights he also filed a new shot against the immigration critics. >> the new platform of the democratic party is to abolish ice, in other words, abolish immigration enforcement. that's what they want to do. they want everybody coming in no the beauty with ice. they are so tough. when you have these ms-13 thugs come in. ice comes in, they wipe them out like it is nothing. they are much tougher. we will not stand for these vile democratic spears against our law enforcement. >> pete: joining us now with a reaction, from irvine, california, former i.c.e. agent claude arnolds.
7:04 pm
immigration attorney, from washington, d.c. former ins special agent. welcome gentlemen. michael, i will start with you. you were with the ins, that is the precursor to ice. after 9/11, that was formed. you say even this iteration of ice is not enough. >> no it is not enough. we have about 6,000 i.c.e. agents, more than half of them are doing immigration. >> pete: 6,000? and only half are doing that? >> if we are lucky. if you look at the 9/11 commission report, multiple failures of the immigration system, particularly a lack of military. there is visa fraud. that made it possible for the terrorist, not only a 9/11, they look at other terrorists. all of them exploded vulnerabilities of the
7:05 pm
immigration system. we have 3,000 i.c.e. agents enforcing that. 45,000 tsa employees. 37,000 police officers in the city of new york. ice is almost nonexistent. why would you get rid of them? >> pete: once they get through, they are outmatched. >> it's not only about arresting illegal aliens. it's about going after the employees who hire them. but the gangs. >> pete: as an i.c.e. agent has been on the ground, are there enough of you? i know you are retired. what are the folks believe were still there? >> as a point of correction. i was with the ins before ice started. there is the removal operation division, they have about 6,000 officers itself. all they do is civil immigratio immigration. then homeland security
7:06 pm
investigation these special agents, half of their duties as immigration. they have 6,000. so, if you want to say half of that, you could say 3,000. >> pete: fair point. that is still not a lot compared to other agencies. talk to me about your work on the ground. you are accused to being a terrorist. a thug. talk of to me about your job question work >> that is ludicr. ice was born out of 9/11. one of the primary responsibilities is national security they have the second largest presence on the federal joint task force. not only investigate immigration crimes related to national security threats, they also investigate custom violations. export technology.
7:07 pm
they're going after bad countries like north korea, potentially china. and then of course the immigration reports. dismantling the organization that smuggle people into the u.s. >> pete: groups like ms-13 that the president talks about. let me go to you al, you're an you have talked to what i've read about structural reform to ice as opposed to abolishing it. the rhetoric on the left is abolish. what is a difference? >> there is a huge difference. the show guests show the issue you want put forward. before there was ice, there was ins. we still protect our borders. this conversation about abolish ice, it is more of a political french on both ends of the part party. at sun about a political conversation. >> pete: what is the political french on the right?
7:08 pm
>> what is the purpose? on both ends. >> pete: they are not putting their whole platform on a party on that? >> another week. it's about human rights and humanitarian rights. what we are going after was the women separating from their children. there may be more that we don't know about this conversation on ice, it's about the humanitarian problem at our border. it has blown out. oh, ice isn't doing enough. your first guest said there there. we have officers in new york city. what is this great concern? >> pete: a fair point. you talk about securing the border. i know ins there are internal. if you had the border secured, the need for ice -- >> the notion that everything happens on the mexican border is wrong. go back to the 9/11 report. we have 50 border states, all
7:09 pm
the northern states or has international airports were access to the coastline, they are border states. >> pete: you have a bit of an agreement with alan. you don't think ice is structured properly right now. your problem is that ice isn't ice enough question >> questio. >> the way it was put together, he emphasized border security. it is remarkable because 44 months after 9/11, that is how long it took us to win that. we were told they were still working on eight statements. >> part of the issue that we should look at, they really haven't had a clear mission. they're doing this, and this, and this spirit >> pete: is the answer to abolish?
7:10 pm
or to refine? the country has made that point. we don't have that right now. wouldn't we want ice there aggressively enforcing our laws? >> if i could jump in here. >> part of the problem is the characterization of the issue. they have a right to apply to asylum. people go to the entries every day. they don't have a problem. >> pete: you first. >> it is absolutely right. ice is essential. they are not used it to full effectiveness. both on the left and the right, there has been an ignorance of interior enforcement. when they passed the act of
7:11 pm
1986, the idea was to give amnesty to people. now we will secure the borders. we will make sure that people who can work will be here. as long as the border is not secure, the magnet for people to come here is employment. if you're not enforcing that. >> pete: what is the morale of that? what does the motive that they are horrible people? >> they are used to it. mr. cutler can attest to this. it is very political. as the political winds shift, we just readjust. it is a very politically charged topic. they know depending on who is the white house, who was in the congress, the political winds will change. >> pete: i was in the military. the last thing i wanted was politics change in my job.
7:12 pm
>> it is going after immigration fraud. we have given citizenship to terrorists. the family got political asylum claiming they can't go home. they went home. one of the brothers, the times square bomber. we are processing applications, giving the keys to the kingdom to aliens without doing the investigation. >> pete: allen, ports of entry entry. if you are coming here, you have an issue. go to a port of entry. as the president has pointed out, knowing that you are doing that illegally, why are you given and afforded the rights of a citizen? >> i don't think they are sprinting there. people are coming here for asylum. if we did revamp the port of entry, the immigration, people
7:13 pm
who can work as we've already seen an increase. >> so it is about reforming it. the 6,000 cases that we have for asylum letter waiting in the courts. the backlog we have. all waiting for legal immigration process is, it's the answer. shutting down and sang everyone has to have extreme vetting, what is that? >> >> will tell you what it is. it's doing investigations into the field to see who is in the country. we keep displacing american workers with foreign workers. it has become a delivery system. immigration clients, they happen to be immigration attorneys als also. we don't want that displacing american workers. threatening our safety. >> pete: we will leave it right there.
7:14 pm
>> do you honestly believe we are letting in thousands of people like that? >> pete: we have to leave it right there. thank you for your service. we appreciate it. and then there were three to sell so to speak. president trump makes a short list of supreme court candidates. new details and how they will try to stop the final pick. coming up next. it takes less than one minute to find out if you may have prediabetes. you can do it here. but i get it, you're busy. and busy people can't have prediabetes. ahhh, i read that wrong. they can. ok. just go to the site.

7:18 pm
judges, all of whom are widely regarded to be constitutional conservatives. they are brett cavanaugh. raymond, and amy coney barrett. brett cavanaugh, the steady washington insider. he served for the same court, that serves as a stepping-stone. he has worked for kennedy. he has ties to george w. bush. raymond, he is less high-profile. a bit of a loner. he is also less controversial, which could help him get confirmed. and then there is amy coney barrett. the only female finalist. seven children. she is a devout catholic. her writings have raised a red flag with a very critical
7:19 pm
republican senator. she fears that she might overturn roe v. wade. trump will make a decision on sunday, on monday a big primetime announcement. something he made it official during that rally in montana. listen here. >> if you tune in on monday. you'll be extremely happy. i want to think justice kennedy for his lifetime of truly distinguished service. he had confidence in me. he left he he said you are going to pick someone great. >> and they are now putting pressure on susan collins. one liberal group is planning on spending millions of dollars on advertising and activism and the home state. the exact same strategy that they used to help defeat the republican effort to defeat obamacare. this will be a much more difficult fight for the

democrats to win. >> pete: christian, thank you. as we have mentioned, democrats are not liking the candidates. none more that at judge amy coney barrett. you can't put it any other way. an incredibly qualified judge. she is a devout catholic, a mother of seven children. the left's hypocrisy on her is so thick, you could choke on it. joining us now with reaction, the policy director of the conservative crisis network. a former clerk. thomas and leo. thank you both for joining us. carrie, we'll start with you. the criticism of amy coney barrett, knowing how accomplished see she is. she may be too devout of the catholic. especially someone who has artie been confirmed with 55 votes. someone who be breaking the

glass ceiling. >> this is very ridiculous. under our constitution, that is what they're trying to do. but i think happening, senator feinstein, they are very threatened by an accomplished, articulate but conservative woman. that puts the lie to their identity politics. their feminist idea of what up woman should be. she understands how to defend your position. that to someone they feel very threatened by. that is i was how the heart attack on her. that's strange line, the dogma lives within her. that will go down in history. >> pete: she was so confirmed. we will let amy coney barrett speak for herself. she spoke to a group in jacksonville, florida. this is what she said. >> to say i want to appoint
7:22 pm
someone who is pro-life. whose primary focus is protecting minority rights. the candidates are talking to their basis and saying signal, i will put people on the court to share your policy preferences. as i was saying before, i think that is not the right qualification for a justice. we shouldn't be putting people on the court that share our policy preferences. we should be putting people there who want to apply the constitution. >> pete: what you take issue with that? >> people who believe in the same policy. heavy read about this woman? this woman does not believe in that. you know what that means? she doesn't believe in an established wall.
7:23 pm
with all due respect i don't think roe v. wade is a bad law. if you want to be honest. she is talking about overturning established law. that scares me as a lawyer. she also said in a speech that lawyers should have a higher calling to god. god has nothing to do with the law. this woman is scary. she is a threat to overturning established law. pete, i hope you talk about those items. >> pete: looking at the declaration of independence yesterday, our founders believed in god. christian, you would acknowledg acknowledge. countries that were on the books for 45 years. roe v. wade is an example. people who look at that as prudence has left and right. the they had to bend over backws
7:24 pm
to find that right. roe v. wade. carrie, can you honor the constitution without being ideological? >> absolutely. that is what she was talking about. not someone who will give you a laundry list of preferences you want achieved. every justice on the supreme court agrees there are times when you have to overturn a ruling that was incorrectly decided. if we still had that, we would still have the horrible dred scott case. >> don't play games with that. that is a red herring. >> roe v. wade, tell me on national television, bad decision. tell all the pro-choice republicans. tell me right now. is roe v. wade a bad law? >> 's legal advisor, a harvard law professor.
7:25 pm
>> i want your opinion. >> he thinks it is not a law that is a good quality presiden president. the question here is very different. this middle justice, the swing vote, john roberts. he is much harder to predict. i have no idea what he will do. >> you didn't answer my questio question. >> pete: people say roe v. wade is terrible, abortion should be illegal. people also say my professor at princeton who said, they pointed out many times that the decision of roe v. wade was judicial activism at its finest. >> pete, respectively. she insults the intelligence of every viewer. since 1973, the current
7:26 pm
administration they have acknowledged roe v. wade. this judge is bent on overturning it. she should not be nominated. >> pete: you are making at a single issue. >> it's a big issue. the woman's right to choose. >> pete: are you saying it's not a legitimate policy issue? >> jason: >> don't you believe? can you just say yes or no? yes or no? >> to say every case ever gets overturned. zero justices in the courts believe that. this is all a distraction. justice o'connor, justice kennedy. they were saying they would be a vote to overturn nets. those were the three votes that upheld that. it is a distraction from the real principle we are talking
7:27 pm
about. is this someone who will look at the law first and foremost, look at the constitution. >> one more comments. i read one of her speeches. she said, i can understand a lawyer. she told lawyers that we as lawyers have a higher calling to god. can you explain that to me? why is she interjecting religion. >> i think our framers said that. >> here we go again. she has said specifically. >> she said she would recuse herself. what else can you ask? >> pete: indicative of the fact, this will be some confirmation hearings. a good debate. carrie, leo, thank you.
7:28 pm

>> pete: welcome back. we will ask a simple question. it is a democratic party killing itself before our eyes in real time? that is the argument laid out by writer ian hendrickson. he writes in part, "increasingly so more whites are realizing the center left and socially conservative part of fdr and jfk no longer exist. the old democratic party was a prolabor, prounion party. today it is a party of open borders, environmentalism. positions that reduce wages defy economic prosperity.
7:31 pm
white working class, cannot relate to these policies. as a result have been leaving the democratic party in droves." joining us now, garland nixon. along with actor and current candidates, antonio somebody jr. thank you for joining us. do you feel like a party of yesteryear is no longer the party today. as a result we , you are losing people. >> yes, it is moving but not necessarily willingly. people have left because they have been angry. >> pete: so you are agreeing with the peace? >> yes but for totally different reasons. the bernie sanders, they are moving in a right direction. it is a populist movement.
7:32 pm
based on policy. that is why they are having success. you win by getting your base of the pole. >> pete: identity politics isn't working. socialism. candidates are being elected for that. antonio, as that's a winning formula? >> no, it is a negative formula for everyone in this country. they're not the democratic party, they are the socialist party. i love presidents like jfk. that was the last guy for me for the democratic party. in the last years, this new administration. the attack that we receive every day. violence. i've never step before. i'm fighting against it. it's a sign of bullying. people are walking away from the democratic party.
7:33 pm
our flat come our constitution. that's over here to do. prosperity and peace. that's what we want. it is more important than that? >> pete: could points. the impossible choice of the democratic party, the party of union. the working man. at the same time very much beholden to environmental interests. they have sunk industries that president trump is saying i want to bring back. want to clean water, i don't want clean air, i don't want to ridiculous regulations that cut industries. how do you square that circle? >> by disagreeing with you. i don't think industries have been sunk by that. they've been sunk by poor decisions. the two things, we don't have to poison ourselves to have a strong economy. >> pete: are we poison ourselves by releasing an energy renaissance questionnaire is at
7:34 pm
placing ourselves or giving jobs? >> a true energy renaissance is clean energy. why wouldn't we want to lead the world with clean energy to make energy customer >> pete: part of getting that forces subsidizing certain forms of energy that are not tenable on the private market. how long do you do that? that looks like picking winners and losers. back to socialism. >> they run this country and a socialist way. my farmers are paying the price by being overregulated. they want to talk about the environment. set about the people in the united states. let's sag with the homelessness in california. we are always talking about everything but the american people. that's why i'm running. i want my county to be on top of again the republican party, they're there for the american people. not only that the country is
7:35 pm
clean, that it is going to the next level. that it is being great again. the last year and a half, it is great. military, taxis, border. everything is going smooth. they want to fight it. >> pete: i forgot that. the resistance. i was interested in one thing you said earlier. identity politics are not the future. as opposed to believing we are all americans regardless of race, gender. this piece argues that the democratic party is based in identity politics. how do you undo viewing people as a subgroup? >> that is easy. we arty have the bernie sander. now we see a 28-year-old latina woman.
7:36 pm
>> both of whom were socialists. >> right now if you look at the polls. i don't care if you are appalled, if you go with legalizing marijuana. 64% of americans are in favor. from bringing our troops home, 70%. i don't care if you call yourself whatever. if you are running for policies that most americans agree with according to the polls. you will win. >> pete: i agree that he is trying to talk about policies. other networks at the airport, i see nothing but resistance. russia collusion. very little talk of what comes next. when the answer becomes medicare for all. legalize marijuana, a legitimate policy. socialism. that doesn't strike me as someone that will work. >> socialism has never worked.
7:37 pm
my family escaped it. no country has ever worked. especially in the united states of america. it has no place in this country. it would be great if the democratic party would work with this president. at the end of the day, we are trying to make this country great. it is best for your party. what is best for americans. americans are waking up. they are saying, we don't want to go for this. this is a false lie. we will vote for republicans. they care. that is the most important thing for me. i like people who actually care. >> pete: may be the educational system. may be hollywood. on to socialism, it doesn't strike me in america. maybe europe. not here as a long-term strategy. thank you both. >> pete: the trop administration reverses obama rules pushing race in college

>> pete: good evening and welcome back to the "the ingram angle. last time i said good morning. thanks for being with us. president trump is hitting an angry nerve with the left. withdrawing obama rules with showing race and college admissions. phil now be encouraged to adopt race blindness. >> it is a serious mistake it is sending a deeply dangerous signal. this administration does not believe in, is not here to support diversity in our community.
7:41 pm
>> this is an example to turn back the hands of time. too retrogressive when it comes to civil rights. this is an appeal of seven obama guidances. we must resist this. it is inconsistent with american values. >> this administration has a great disdain for diversity. >> pete: not everybody in higher education sees it that way. some people think it is a win for students. one of them is dr. carol swain. at vanderbilt university. she joins us now. the key both. carol, i will start with you. please explain what this does and why you believe this change by the trop administration is a good thing. >> i had been a professor for 20

7:45 pm
unrest on college campuses today. so much anger and bitterness. the students want to segregate. many of them are not prepared for the institutions they been allowed to go to. >> pete: there is a case at harvard right now pending in the courts, asian-american students are claiming reverse discrimination. their numbers are being reduced because they are overqualified. doesn't that strike you as unfair for them? >> if you don't think that my opinion is in line with reality. ask the national educational association. ask the council. they are being pushed back. this policy is not about whether kids do well on college campuses. it is making sure that we have a pool of people that are able to
7:46 pm
get into colleges and universities around the country. right here in south carolina, we've had issues with african-american students. same gpa, same test scores that could not get into the school. i know what that feels like. i know what it's like to be in that situation. this is simply a political move. the timing is ironic considering trump is considering his supreme court nomination. >> i totally disagree. >> of course you do. >> what i see is that a lot of black students that could have been successful someplace or institutions where they are born to fail. they leave with debts. they are angry, better. >> this is to make sure they get their chance. >> it is unfair against asians as well as other minorities who
