inflamed fbi empployees working to accelerate an investigation into donald trump before election day. at heart of this peter strzok who landed the russia investigation from the beginning and promised his girlfriend they could stop trump. they did their best. in september 2016, carter page wrote a letter to the director of the fbi jim comey about false leaks about him. strzok's reaction: at a minimum this letter provides us a pretext. in other words, an excuse. in another memo, four weeks before election day, strzok tells paim he's pleasing the "hurry the f up" pressure on andy mccabe to get a fisa warpt to spry on carter page. after the election they didn't discuss. he discusses any need to strike

any derogatory information they may have dpleend from confidential informants. the same people who wound up as members of the mueller investigation. no defending any of this. yet the left is. carter page is on the receiving end of all of this for years now and he joins us tonight. carter page, thank you for joining us. >> thanks for having me. >> tucker: on the time line, let's go back to the letter sent to jim comey, director of the fbi, about the likes against you. what were those likes? >> well, i sent that on sunday september 25, 2016. two days before that, on the friday september 23, there is a big defamatory article put out by a yahoo news. and, you know, as we subsequently learned from the house intelligence memos, that was part of the -- the fake news

article was actually used as part of the fisa application. so completely outrageous. >> tucker: um, carter, i'm having a little trouble with my audio. i'm pretty certain that our audience can hear you just fine. so just clarify for us, the basics here. you have not, after all of this, and you've been under surveillance, in effect, under vehicles for years now. you haven't been charged with anything. do you expect that you're going to be charged with anything? after all of this. >> tucker, there isn't anything that i could potentially be charged with. particularly after seeing john solomon's article today, it becomes, the whole, you know, using the term from that quote you had, pretext. the pretext was absolutely outrageous. ridiculous. so, you know, this is pretext

wrapped upon pretext. completely out of control. i can't even imagine what i would be charged with. >> tucker: do you know after, again, all of this, what exactly the suspected crime was. you were the subject of a fisa warpt, the federal government turning its surveillance powers on you. a big deal. we have the whole system designed to keep that from being abused. why would they want to read the e-mails and spy on ways we don't know about. what did they think you were doing? igo report 1.0, a lot of political motivations behind what was happening earlier in the presidential election campaigns. and i think what is a lot of evidence that has come out both from house intelligence committee, senate judiciary committee, how judiciary as well as others, there's a lot of

abuses going on. so, i think it's completely political. there's nothing substantive to this, whatsoever. >> tucker: presumably if there were something substantive you would be charged with a felony. this is not the behavior of a free country of an open, legislate malt government spying on its own citizens for political reasons. what has this cost you financially? >> tucker, it's like president trump said during the campaign, it's not about me, it's about us. i'm not concerned, you know, it's cost me tremendously, it's cost many people in the trump movement, you know. , the peep imwas volunteering with, tremendously, in terms of all of the -- people i was volunteering with, the legal fees, challenges it's created for their life. in some case as lot of terror threats. the bigger issue is the obstruction in terms of u.s. foreign policy. the terrible impact that this had on possibilities, in terms of russian relations.

administration. you can't look at that, as an american, not feel outrage. yet the left is totally fine with what's happened to carter page. why is that? do you think? >> i don't think anybody's fine with civil liberties being violated. >> tucker: really snrngts i don't know that his has. he took the fifth for a lot of question when is he went to the closed door session with congress. >> tucker: is that a constitutional right? wait a second, to maintain the fifth, you don't have civil liberty? what law school did you go to? >> i wasn't to st. john's and i'm proud of. that the president of the united states once said if they take the fifth it means they're guilty. >> tucker: i don't care what trump said, i'm an american citizens, you have a right not to testify under the fifth amendment to the constitution, the bill of rights. you have a right not to be spied upon for political reasons. my question is, why was carter page the subject of a fisa

warrant after the fbi had looked exhaustively into his interactions with the russians. they clearly abused his civil liberties. nobody cares because he volunteered for donald trump. that's police state stuff. you should be upset about that. >> remember, the man started by providing documents to a russian spy in 2014. >> tucker: what were those documents? hold on, what documents? you just accused him -- you don't know what they are? >> oh, it is widely, it is widely known and he will admit that he gave documents to a russian spy. >> tucker: what documents? was it a pizza menu? was it the blueprints to a theroux nuclear war head this is how they start to recruit you, they ask you to provide something that is legal and they show that you will do it. this is a russian spy attempting to recruit him. that russian spy was later dieted and convicted and this came up in that.

the fbi was right to start looking into it. >> tucker: wait, wait, they were. so they already knew that the documents that you attempted to make sound sinister amounted to nothing, carter page was not spying for the russian government, he was not a mole. they knew that. they knew that. and yet, they got a fisa warrant against him already. don't you think that the u.s. government spies on its own citizens, ought to have a good reason? and that that reason shouldn't be made up by a political activist like peter strzok or his girlfriend lisa page. >> so the fact that he had been communicating with senior russian officials including members of their spy ring in russia, then goes to russia, with the permission of corey lewandowski, goes to russia in 2016 during the campaign. i think the fbi would be suspicious. i think that they should of been suspicious. d.c. so what! since you have raised this allegation, we have carter page

in the studio. i want to ask him what the documents were. and i mean, let's get specific here. you passed documents to a russian spy. did you betray your country? what were the documents? why aren't you in prison right now if that was a felony? >> tucker, this is complete spin. i was teaching a course at new york university called energy in the world in the spring semester of 2013. and i had a coffee with a diplomat from the russian consulate. and i showed him -- >> tucker: who was a spy. your country? do you love your country, carter page? >> i love my country and actually, all of my actions directly speak to that. and i think, you know, president trump and his initiatives in terms of building a better structure for international relations, particularly u.s.-russia relations, i think is going to show great love for the country. >> tucker: i'm embarrassed to live here, this is a shameful moment in our nation's history. >> a great code word, a great code word in the document from john solomon today. they use the term, there's a new code word, dragon, right? interest reminded me of dragon energy, that kanye west was talking about. both dragon energy, president trump is my brother, i love everyone. it's this very positive approach, trying to create a better world for all american citizens. and better peaceful situation in the world.

not yet. it is an entirely separate month. with its own national organization, the democratic social interests of america. the dsa endorsed bernie sanders and opposed donald trump but did not endorse hillary clinton. at times it's been antagonistic to the party. there's no formal platform but the outlines are clear. democratic social interests support socialism, state openership of major industries, healthcare, technology, manufacturing. some of them explicitly support communism. the co-chair of portland oregon's chapter recently tweeted this, quote, as a dsa chopped co-chair i want to set the record straight. communism is good. but democratic social ishl havism is about more than economics, the official twitter account demands reparations in the form of african-americans, forgiveness of student loans and guaranteed lifetime income. the dsa calls for an end to

immigrant deportations in the united states. the dsa has called for the abollish of borders. that gives you an idea. unlimited uncontrolled immigration into the u.s. coupled with race based reparations, any massive expansion of the welfare state financed by an economic system that does not recognize profit. how would that work? has it ever worked in any country? the world? suddenly seem like relevant questions. at this pays a democratic social interest could get the nomination and be elected president. we thought it was perfect moment to speak to possibly the most famous of all advocates for democratic socialism, cornell west, from harvard, hon rary co-chair of the democratic socialists of america, thank you for coming on. >> thank you. good to be in dialogue with you once again. >> tucker: yes, it is. to give us some sense of what democratic socialism, can you

point to an example, an extent example that works? vebz well a seems like an example of democratic socialism, venezuela, does it work? >> i don't think that democratic socialism as an ideal has been able to be inbodied in a larger social context. there are different forms. some are bad, some are medium, some are better. it is to the dignity of order people and to make sure they can live lives of decency. it's not annism, brother, it's about -- it's not an ism, it's about accountability of the powerful vis-a-vis those who have less power. women dealing with a household, days, lesbians, trans, black people, indigenous people, immigrants. how do we ensure they're treated decently and powerful don't if any way sub ju gate and exploit them. >> tucker: if that's what

nicaragua, we saw it where countries tried to engage in self determination. they get crushed, they get coerced, and they end up oftentimes responding to that kind of authorize tearian treatment. we never -- authoritarian treatment. it's only been a movement so far. attempt to resist the greed at the top, the racism, the sexism, the homophobe yashg the various ways in which u manity is violated rather than affirmed. >> tucker: here's, just to the details quickly. the dsa of new york one of the biggest in the country recently -- >> thank god for sister alexandria. >> tucker: they said they're against borders, profits, and prisons. what would a country without prisons look like? what would you do with murderers or rapists, where would you put them? . well, when they say prisons they're talking about the kinds of prisons we have at the present.

if you have sites rehabilitation, education, ways in which transformation can take place, you and i, ourselves, you're episcopalian, i'm baptist, we're christians, we believe all human beings are made in the image of god and can be changed, transformed, when the right kind of intervention takes place. that's what people mean in the socialist movement talk about the elimination of the kind of prisons that are in place. >> tucker: better prisons? maybe they should be specific. what about borders, though. >> you can have isolation, you can have distance but you don't give up on them and you don't view them in the vicious -- through the lens of being less than human. that they can bounce back. they can be better. >> tucker: so, if a government's obligation is to its own citizens, and you drop the borders and have no border enforcement at all, what would happen to this country? what would happen to the poor people in this country? would their lives get better no,

this country would become poorer, dirtier, impossible to manage, it would be flooded with the poor of the world. and interest would destroy our country instantly. why would you say no borders? >> i mean, again, you have a va right of voices in the democratic social interests of america. like a jazz orchestra. you have different per spec tifls and orientations, we don't all agree on one particular policy at all times. israeli occupation, some are in the middle, some more critical like myself. the question is, how do you keep track of the rich humanity of mexican brothers, those from african america, africa, haiti, europe and asia. we know the history of america, indigenous people and africans was to open the borders, bring folk in. to allow people in. it's not a matter of no borders at all, it's how do you ensure their dignity is affirmed when

workers, disabled workers, those with a criminal record. the ones the left says they care about. it would be great if that happened. about $7 million american men in the country between 25 and 54, prime working age unemployed or out of the labor force. many of them have stopped looking for work during the great recession. they aren't counted. each one is a living disaster. the tight labor market is what we could use to get all of these or many of them back to work. hiring americans is the fastest way to reduce poverty, strengthen families, reverse the decline of men, cut crime, restore dignity to rural america and make it a better country. some businesses don't want to do that, it's easier to import workers. tough. steven is director of research at immigration studies hearing joins us tonight. how offensive as an american to read with 7 million prime age men out of the workforce that we have a labor shortage. we need to import more low wage

labor. >> that's just the high school dropouts, you look at people without high school education there's about 40 million between 18 and 65 who have no education, don't have a college education. who are currently out of the workforce. they don't show up in statistics. that's several million more than it was at the peek of the last economic expansion. there's no evidence of a labor shortage. >> tucker: just the opposite, there's a huge pool of people languishing without meaningful work and businesses rather than trying to do something, where our leaders rather than try to improve public schools find it easier to import. >> we can look at wanls as another measure. if labor was in tight supply we expect wanls to be rising. we can look at wanls for high school dropouts, people with only a high school education or some college. over the past decade their wages stagnant or decline. no evidence of a labor short an. we worry about the working poor,

we worry about income inequality, work not paying. people dropping out. and living on welfare. yet, now we have an opportunity to see wages rise. and yement the business community -- yet the business community and allies in both parties are clambering to shoshgt circuit it. >> tucker: you wonder why socialism which is a disaster is so popular, wages are low and they can't afford to buy a house or get married. you would think the left would notice. this me were always historically on the side of workers and higher wages. they don't care. >> at this point the idea is they just don't want to look at this question. look, we'll incries minimum wage, have unions, welfare transfers. whatever you think of the merits, why aren't have isn't a tight labor market one of the best things we can do for the working poor. one of the best anti-poverty programs. there's all the self-esteem that comes from working. so it seems like in terms of making people's lives better, making wages better, drawing the people out of the labor force

and you could actually steal anything, $950 below, the homeless have been flocking to the state of california. >> tucker: that was the proposition that made low level crimes not crimes, basically. . exactly, exactly. and i can tell you, on a personal level, i have people coming in to my stores on a regular basis, stealing items that my employees are later finding on craig's list. the police can't do anything about it. they won't show up because where do you send a ticket for some one who's homeless? they don't show up any longer. they have made crime okay in the state of california. and in san francisco, where you're talking about, i mean, that's pelosi's backyard. she is part of that liberal agenda that is driving california down the path that it's going. and ruiz, who i'm running against, is doing the same thing. they don't understand what's going on in california. they want to turn the other way.

the consent of the naked. the bill failed to pass, though, and some say google is to blame for that. google demanded numerous changes on the day of the vote. lawmakers si it was not voted on. beverly holberg joins us. >> i think google took way too long to voice their concerns. this has been in the works for about five years. we have 40 states including washington, d.c. that have passed similar legislation. it is suspect, it has something to do with them not wanting to be involved. but there is validity, not asking platforms like google, facebook to have be the ar buy traitors of what should be on their platforms and what shouldn't. there are community guidelines that they need to follow, public decency. but do we want face book and google to be the arbitrator of what is consensual, not

consensual? should we put our free speech rights in their hands? >> tucker: we've already giving given them, and they klatch down on ideas they don't like. they sensor ideas they don't like. and they're liberal. you raise a valid point. question for me, to what extent does google have control over the legislative process? lobbying efforts seem so vast but no one reports on it. >> unfortunately too much. it's extremely suspect. i'm in the sure with these legislators in new york city or new york state what is the poll, why so late in the game. i think there's cronyism going on. are they giving funds to the legislators for their campaigns, what is behind it. but, again, i think when it comes to big tech they're to blame for a lot of things. recently, i thought the most surprising story about big tech this week, they said that facebook, one of the facebook the outlets, they said that posting of the amendments from the constitution was hate speech. there was a texas publication that leading up to july 4, said

we want to post an amendment every day, show people what is in the bill of rights. and one of the amendments they said was actually hate speech. they now have unblocked it and put it back on. once again, why is big tech determining what is hate speech, what is not. i think that's concerning. why re they in the pockets it seems at times with so many elected officials. >> tucker: that is the question. so you have a company that has more power than any company has ever had in human history over not just what we know but how we think, it has a demonstrated history of censorship, plilt cal censorship. the congress has done nothing about it. doesn't that by itself almost suggest that they control the congress to a greater degree than a company should. >> the other side, when it comes to these platforms, i think government doesn't know how they work. even when you look at cyber security, what happens with the russians, facebook, there's a lot of questions of government in our elected officials and the
