north korean ministry released gangster like, just before he left and basically outlined that they had fairly positive negotiations in the progress that they had made in almost two days of negotiations with the north korean government. he also said the president and kim jong un remained personally committed to ridding north korea of nuclear weapons. >> chairman kim is so committed. i had a chance to speak with president trump this morning. >> the foreign ministry statement criticizing u.s. demands also included message from kim jong un's office noting that the north korean dictator believed that he had built trust with president trump during summit in singapore and expects that that will continue the trust building as negotiations are ongoing. state department confirmed

pompeo brought with him a letter from president trump to kim jong un and north korean delegation that kim received it and will discus more difficult issues between two governments. it's unclear how far negotiators are along or in how long it would take to dismantle it. secretary pompeo says the two sides discussed that during meetings though refused what if any progress they made on that. state department says next week u.s. and north korea will meet in demilitarized zone to discuss remains of u.s. san francisco members from the korean war. a few hours from now, secretary of state to meet with top japanese and south korean officials to update them on status of negotiations. connell, back to you. connell: julie. julie: president trump is

the latest statement from north korea calling talks with secretary pompeo regrettable and accusing the u.s. of having robber - like attitude. "the new york times" broke a story yesterday that president trump's lawyer said mueller needed to prove the president committed a crime if he's going to agree to an interview. fox news confirmed part of new york times report. the president's personal lawyer told fox news he's asking mueller for a, quote, factual basis for the investigation before they will consider let mueller interview president trump. all eyes on the supreme court and announcement which we expect to get from president trump monday night. we know that yesterday evening at the president's golf club him and vice president pence sat down an had dinner and talked about a number of things including upcoming announcement of supreme court nominee. white house reportedly working right now on what's called

roll-out packages for four different candidates kavanaugh, barrett, kethledge. the person he spoke with the most was kethledge. connell: robert, good to see you on saturday. what rich and ellison reported to us, thements from north koreans calling talks with secretary pompeo regrettable among other things. what's next here, what's president trump's next move? >> as far as we know there's no upcoming summit. pompeo left north korea today without any hard indication that north korea is making serious verifiable efforts towards denuclearization. now, it's important to note that north korea has the capability and has proven has the

capability to strike the united states with nuclear war head or missile that would call serious destruction. really, they have proven that they have nuclear deterrence. as far as i see united states has two options, continue to push for denuclearization of the korean peninsula or move military engagement. the united states and allies don't want that to happen obviously because there's loss of life and destabilization of north korean peninsula. as far as i see it and push to go try to reduce the threat of nuclear attack on the part of north korea on the united states or anywhere else in the world where our interests are. >> let's talk about that option as you call it, a push, what does a push mean at this point, a different tactic, more sanctions, what -- does the president need to get personally involved again? because of what happened, does that push need to be different

approach than what we have seen in. >> if i had to true answer to that, i might be national security adviser for the president, what i can say, you know, i think the president actually -- connell: think about what the national security adviser is to the president, big-time hawk when it comes to north korea. >> what you're seeing on the part of income north carolina is posturing. they want to keep nuclear weapons, a big bargaining chip. if trump amps rhetoric and bolton continues talks with north korea and pompeo continues to do this and allies backing us, we will likely see north korea back down. but there's no indication at this point right now that they are willing to do so like i said having nuclear weapons is such a bargaining chip on the world stage and something that they are fighting as you saw after

comments with pompeo calling the talks regrettable. i think you're seeing posturing on their part. connell: could be negotiating tactic income north -- north koa style. the question is what do they want and what can they get, what do they think they can get out of that, certainly only anger the president. >> yeah, we are waiting on the president's tweet or remark on what he thinks about it. as far as i'm concerned and the people in the administration i'm sure the president is fired up about this and wants to not be played on the world stage. connell: we are wondering what the president is going to do next? what about china and other countries in the region? >> we have seen denuclearization push work on the part of the united states with china and with russia in the past. as far as china -- as far as the chinese interest here are

concerned, i think they're probably going sit and let this play out and see when the best moment for them to actually address the issue. but as far as it stands, i think we will have to wait and see what the president's remarks are towards the north korean officials statement. if any indication, i'm assuming he will come down pretty hard. connell: probably. let's take up what you said was option two in all of this, was to put military pressure or military action against north koreans. percentage wise do you think odds increased because of the comments in the last 24-48 hours? >> that's a possibility. the other thing that you have to think about is real yación on the part -- retaliation from north korea and you hear things it would not happen, any push really hard heavy-handed efforts on the part of the united states or anywhere else could cause

let's get to garrett live. garrett. >> president trump is on final stage on deciding pick of supreme court and said he narrowed list to two or three finalists and will likely make up mind by tomorrow night. sources familiar with the vetting process tell fox news bret kavanaugh, amy cony barrett and kethledge. often seen as steppingstone to supreme court. he graduated from yale law school, ivy league credentials but served as assistant to the president and staff secretary to president george bush. amy cony barrett went through a tough confirmation hearing last year for current position on the seventh court of appeals in chicago, the 46-year-old is a former clerk for antonin scalia. former law professor at notre

dame and mother of 7 children. democratic senators questioned her last year strong catholic beliefs would impact rulings such as abortion. she will likely face questions, and republican senator susan collins of maine has voiced concerned about that issue to the white house. there's a growing sense inside the white house, though, that raymond kethledge could be the front runner, 51-year-old serves in if i have uth circuit, solid conservative record. he hasn't had blockbuster cases. he's an avid outdoorsman and supporters compare to nile gorsuch which is big selling point for the president. connell: monday night, prime

time, thank you, garrett. julie: for more of this university of memphis law professor joins us now and former federal prosecutor, thank you very much for talking to us. >> thank you, julie. julie: let me start with kavanaugh and conservatives because they have some issues with him. while he's respected in washington's gop circle a list against 53-year-old, what are the biggest issues about kavanaugh? >> well, one of them is simply the association with with george w. bush administration which you would think would not be a problem for conservatives but given president trump's problems with the bush administration but another one is that he did issue opinions on the court of appeals upholding the affordable care act also known as obamacare which is a concern for some conservatives. on the other hand, his opinions strike a very, very conservative tone on the question of the

power of administrative agencies, the kinds of thing that is people from the federal society would probably actually like. so i think it's a mix bag. julie: i want to talk about calf -- kavanaugh's decision on obamacare, suggested that the affordable care act individual mandate could be road map to a 2012 supreme court ruling that republicans believed saved the 2010 health care law. this is something that really fights for a lot of conservatives who we wanted to repeal and replace obamacare. how might this decision, opinion hurt him most? >> well, as you've already mentioned by providing the road map for the rationale that ultimately saved the affordable care act, i suppose that might hurt him with some conservatives. on the other hand, you know, you could say that that issue is over with and is overall record

is still relatively conservative. we are sort of just twirling around with the margins. saving the individual mandate because it was considered to be a tax was the tact that justice roberts took to save obamacare and most people would say that justice roberts is properly characterized as conservative. julie: after sparking fight with the president's faith, how weary should the president be given abortion-related cases? >> well, you know, there's different kind of analysis when you are a lower-court judge because you are required to follow the united states supreme court. i don't think we know all that well exactly what he would do if he were given power in supreme

court including possibly overturning roe and casey. i think it's ges work. julie: yeah, other top candidates include amy comey barrett and raymond kethledge. how might they be more appealing to the president's base? >> well, amy barrett has track record even from academic writings as law professor and lower-court decisions as being very, very strongly antiabortion. she has not actually said that he should vote to overreturn roe v. wade but in academic writing she wrote that catholic judges, she is one, would have the right to recuse themselves in cases involving things that were against their catholic points of view or sincere beliefs.

the death penalty was one example. abortion was another. her record speaks for strongly hinting and aggressive antiabortion viewpoint. julie: how about the fact that she's a woman? liberals attack men who are antiabortion, they argue you're a man and so you shouldn't be making choices for women, so here we have a female judge, a woman, a conservative catholic who say that is a woman should not have the right to choose and abortion should be overturned. i'm not sure she would do that if actually picked. i wonder how much weight she would have in roe v. wade. >> the fact that she's a woman does improve optics in terms antiabortion ruling, you know, again, we need to stress she hasn't said she would overturn roe v. wade. she has written things about

julie: ohio congressman jim jordan pushing back against claims he ignored sexual abuse allegations against the team doctor at ohio state when jordan was coach there. in an exclusive interview the congressman calls the accusations bogus. >> jim jordan hitting back against accusations from six people that he ignored sexual abuse while coaching at ohio university. >> it's false. i never saw, never heard of, never was told about any type of abuse. if i had been, i would have dealt with it, our coaching staff, we would have dealt with it. these were student athletes. >> male athletes are alleging sexual misconduct by richard strauss, served in medical team and conducted research in 1980's and passed away in 2005. claims jordan knew of ongoing

abuse for years. >> i've got a lot of of affinity for jim jordan as coach, as friend, but at the end of the day, you have a duty to myself and other victims to tell the real stories. >> jordan insists to fox news that no one ever reported conduct or abuse through official channels. >> the conversations in locker room are a lot different than allegations of abuse. >> now several house gop sources as well as member of house republican leadership tell fox news they've got questions. while none are willing to speak on record they all say they want more clarity on what exactly jordan meant when he said locker room conversation. the president says he buys it, quote, jim jordan is one of the most outstanding people i met him since washington, i believe him 100%.

capitol hill insider says accusations call into question whether they will continue with jordan at the helm along meadows. julie. julie: thank you. connell: let's talk more about the story. former trump campaign director, executive director at look ahead america, don, former state representative. welcome to you, both. don, i will ask you this first, you heard the denies from the bret baier interview and jillian's report, is that enough to make story go away? >> it probably isn't now that we have house, not easy to say that 6 grown men to say i was molested by another men and we have to recall that dr. strauss killed himself in 2005.

they were molested in college students. jim jordan were under his care, no one was saying he allowed but was in a leadership position. the young men at the time were under his care and one has to ask, did he have responsibility to step in and stop it or report. it's not enough for him no one reported through official channels because these young men were given through him and under coaching staff. connell: what about the point, we heard in different contexts whether it would be politics or business or what have you that somebody in the leadership position either knew about something that was happening that wasn't right or to the point that don is bringing up should have known, how do you look at that? >> there's been the should have known standard and we need to hold that back 5 or 6 number that gets thrown out in the media. one individual has said that they brought this matter to jordan's attention in front of

another witness. jordan denies it and the witness denies and the individual was 18 months in prison for fraud. he should have known. a new invention. i fare that the -- fear of partisan issue. cob couldn't the timing of it. go ahead. >> let's be clear about something, someone bringing it to his attention is not a here. i'm a college athlete, they live in proximity, essentially the family. the assistant coach knows what's going on. [inaudible] connell: part of what you're saying was addressed there and that's there's talk, right, not necessarily somebody coming with formal allegations but there's talk in the locker room.

jillian got a little bit in the report and bret picked up in interview and pressed him on it >> conversations in the locker room is a lot different than somebody saying there's been kind of abuse. if there been that, we would have dealt with it, our entire coaching staff. we would have dealt with it. student athletes -- >> did you hear it in the locker room? >> no. we did not hear that. >> something sure of abuse that maybe considered abuse now in this current time? >> i did not. connell: that's the denial but are things that we could have -- we should have considered to be abuse years ago, but did not, but now would. >> he is bringing up five or six people, he should have known. in the political reporting on the same team saying there's no reason that he should have known. this is mirky and muddy. ultimately there's an

racing against poor weather conditions as they search for best ways to basically rescue 12 boys and soccer coach trapped inside. this cave for now nearly 2 weeks, the path out is considered complicated because of reasons, twists and turns in a narrow and flooded passage way, several of people and most of the boys do not know how to swim. jeff paul live in thailand. jeff. >> yeah, we are at a very remote area of thailand, we just got here a while ago, you can hear the generators, that's because we have generators operating as you see pumping water from deep inside the cave where those 12 boys and coach are trapped. earlier today unfortunately there were some heavy rains. the governor spoke recently saying that they cannot -- the time is basically past for them to try to find an ideal time of

interviewed. rudy giuliani, if they can only to us and show us the basic and that it's legitimate and that they have something, we can go from there and assess their objectivity. former justice department official and former assistant to attorney general, a new spin, if you will, on the russia case, what do you make of giuliani's approach? >> i think it's a good approach. i don't think it's really too much of a novel spin if you're going to interview the president or take the president into grand jury, you would need to establish a basis to do so, i think what giuliani is doing asking for the evidence in advance because these kinds of things have been balanced. the president is the president and have already established that he can't be indicted and if he's going to participate, you need to balance what the possible crimes are and whether or not you get the information somewhere else. he's asking for the explanation up front.

it is going to be negotiation to, i think, try to head off litigation over this but i think he has position as he should as representing the president and mueller will push back and come to some resolution or not whether interview will happen. julie: i'm not sure how much of this is actually going to stick or if it's just to show that the president's lawyer is going to stand up to mueller, but the president has said that he would be up to be interviewed by mueller, he said that repeatedly for some time and giuliani said that that possibility remains as well. the question is, should they hold out until mueller turned if even there's any? >> i suspect the middle ground would be discussion, the government says, hey, look, here is the kind of information that we have, i mean, in much less

high-profile cases this is typically what you do. okay, is my witness a target in this, are they a subject, are they a witness, and can you tell me what you need to know from them and why you need to know it and, you know, if you have a relationship with the prosecutors sometimes they'll tell you, hey, here is the one gap we have and we would like to get his or her opinion on matter x. if you narrow it down that's benefits. i understand giuliani doesn't want free will interview, and the president's temperament make difficult. julie: if there were a court fight, wouldn't mueller have to disclose basis for questioning? >> well, in a way it's like a nuclear standoff. neither side, the court -- the problem for both sides is the time. julie: delay in litigation. >> it would go -- it would

probably at least a year or 18 months to get to supreme court and i think public more sick of investigation and already increasing public sentiment of concern and for trump the whole matter hang over a another year to presidency and reelect. i don't think either one of them really want that so i think that they'll have to make a decision and the trump people writes report and mueller people hope trump will sit for interview and get it over with. where you will july both sides are at risk. neither side one delay. there's attack on mueller's team, being part, what do you make of those attacks? >> more political in nature.

behind the clinton probe. the ig is investigating that. unless they want to shut down the whole thing, strong argument legally, but great argument and he's different than manafort or anybody else. the president risk is impeachment. there is no line between law and politics because if politically he can get half of the country opposed to the investigation, it doesn't matter because no one wants to impeach him. that's kind of, i think, you know, sometimes lawyers are taken back so impeachment becomes unappealing. julie: more tactic and it's a defensive one. you know, if you have no evidence and there's no possible
