continues to pour in. >> the president coming back to harsh criticism and condemnation from republicans and democrats alike, standing firm between the assessment on russian interference. and suggesting vladimir putin may have dirt on the president. >> what could cause donald trump to put the interests of russia over those of the united states. the only possible explanation for this dangerous behavior is the possibility that vladimir putin holds damaging information over donald trump. >> reporter: before that the president was reacting over twitter, great confidence in my intelligence people but i also recognize to build a brighter future on the path as the largest nuclear powers, we must get a long business interview

those issues. it is true that donald trump has trouble separating those issues but has trouble because he is the victimized the year and a half by people who are unable to separate them. rob: meddling and collusion. the mueller investigation approaching $20 million in costs to the american taxpayer. jillian: a massive manhunt for a suspect who shot a cop and sped away. the suspect was driving a blue toyota corolla when deputy jordan cheryl pulled him over, the suspect shooting cheryl. the deputy needed surgery. and information leading to an arrest. a man accused of murdering a cop with his own gun could face a judge today. massachusetts officer michael chestnut was responding to a colony manual lopez grabbed his gun and shot him in the head. he is accused of killing a bystander. lopez was expected to be arraigned on monday but still in the hospital.

defenders. rob: the director of the foreign policy center at the heritage foundation joins us to react. what did you make of yesterday? >> it was a very disappointing meeting between donald trump and vladimir putin. i felt donald trump missed a golden opportunity to hold pres. putin to account on the international stage. very unfortunate big issues pressing russia like their invasion of crimea, the fact that today marks the fourth anniversary of the shooting down of the malaysian airliner over ukraine where 298 people were killed or the fact that a few weeks ago a british citizen was killed in england because of russian nerve agents. i was disappointed by the summit. rob: a lot of people trying to analyze what happened. ben schapiro did a write up because i thought it was so good. the president hates the meddling story, he hates the collusion

story because it cast doubt on his ability to win the election, he couldn't have gotten this done without russia helping him. that is why he is so hesitant to believe our intelligence because it marginalizes him as a politician. do you agree? >> it is unfortunate for him but facts are facts and 17 us intelligence agencies say russia was meddling to some extent in the election. whether or not no one is saying votes were changed or anything but russia was getting involved in the electoral process. they do this in europe, they have done this for years, this is what they do and i think donald trump should have held vladimir putin to account on this issue and other issues in a more meaningful way. we don't know what was discussed behind closed doors but at the

press conference you didn't see the same donald trump it comes out fighting for america like we saw during the nato summit or the uk. we saw a different donald trump standing next to vladimir putin. jillian: it is fresh and everybody's minds. talk about in general how donald trump is being tough on russia? hard to backtrack a little bit from yesterday but in general how tough is he being compared to past pres.s. >> this is one of the puzzling aspects of yesterday and his poor performance. up to this point he has been the toughest president since ronald reagan against russia. he did things pres. obama refused to do like antitank and antiaircraft weapons. even with his legitimate complaining about europeans not spending enough on defense the part of money the us allocates cause european difference

jillian: fox news alert, manhunt for the suspect that shot north carolina deputy just days after a horrific and deadly attack on a massachusetts policeman, attacked with a rock and shot dead with his own gun. the number of officers killed in the line of duty skyrocketing to 30 this year alone. law enforcement panel is here to weigh in. sgt. joey in petri and former boston police commissioner davis. thank you for joining us. sad under these circumstances. look at these numbers. july 15, 2018, there have been 30 officers killed in the line of duty compared to 35 total in 2017. the numbers are hard to look at. why do you think this is?

>> misinformation, people spew hate and people are misinformed and don't know the truth. chicago, the firearm in the waistband, officers were justified in shooting and it makes no sense. the guy have a firearm with magazines, they should be able to do that without repercussions. jillian: do you think the fact social media is the way we live nowadays there are pictures everywhere, videos everywhere is that adding to this? >> no question that is fueling the fire but i agree with what joey said. you have police officers we trained to respond in a certain way and people are protesting this. jillian: in any occupation you will have a few bad apples but for the most part police

officers are there to protect us and the community. why do you see this being such a problem? >> i am in chicago right now but i am from new york and four days on a hunger strike praying for peace to take place because there is such a breakdown right now how people view police, a lot of the african-american communities because of things that have taken place, but it is sad to see this happening, such distrust, people are scared, feel they are not going to get arrested, they have to fear for their lives and i hope, i hope people can see this is not the answer, to gun it out or attempt to fight a cop, to hear this violence breaks my heart, it really does.

jillian: how long will you be on this hunger strike? >> i am praying right now, four days without food, it lasted 60 days before going into a coma. we will do our best. i see no end until i see a week of peace in chicago and every day we are talking to shooters on the street to resolve these issues and let them know, stop shooting each other and try to build relationships between them and the police force. jillian: you targeted something i want to get to, building relationships. how do we change the narrative and build the relationships between law enforcement and the community? >> a very big push all over the united states, going back to people not trusting police i don't trust that, don't buy into it. people use that excuse every day, don't trust the police.

murdered, 77 years old, ofc. chesnut did an incredible job protecting his community. we couldn't protect that woman and this is a failure of our mental health system, criminal justice system and our officers are paying the ultimate price. jillian: thank you for being there to do good and protect your community, thank you for being here. rob: reuniting illegal families taking center stage on the hill today, chuck grassley and officials from dhs and hhs hosting a briefing on the trump administration's latest efforts between migrant families back together. this after a judge, deportations reunited migrant families, the aclu argued parents need a week to determine if they want to apply for asylum. chaos and panic, a lava bomb as it was called crashes onto a boat in hawaii, a tourist onboard.

>> did you miss -- let's take a look at current temperatures. it is summertime across much of the country, really humid, 78 in new york, hotter than that, humidity, we did get a break from the humidity, a cold front moving through but because it is on the move we will see potential for heavy rain, flooding rainfall, large hail, damaging wind and an isolated tornado. this is a situation where we see potential for severe storms, new york to new jersey towards maine, the threat for severe storms this afternoon and this evening, the damaging winds, don't think we will see a lot of tornadoes. the forecast, heat index across the south very warm today in the hundreds is what it will feel like. forecast for the rest of the country very summerlike across much of the country but we will be watching for showers and thunderstorms across the northeast. a rumble of thunder possible.
