>> we are in the midst of a difficult national political context for immigrant communities. but in san francisco, we are modeling what we know it is right. steve: but is it right? here to discuss is executive director of the hispanic society and host of the chris salcido radio show chris salcido joins us from dallas. chris, the way it works is if you are over 18 years old and you have a child in the schools, under 19, and you are in the country illegally, you will be able to vote in these local elections in san francisco. what do you think about this idea? >> well, what could go wrong, right? foreign nationals voting in elections. when i first heard about this story, steve, a couple of things popped into my mind. first, the democrats just came up with brand new slogan well their third brand new slogan for the 2018 election. for the people. now we know who the people are. foreign nationals. the democrats have been faining outrage about

interference in our elections for the past two, two and a half years. attempted interference in our elections. now they are passing laws in california the center for left wing thought that ensures foreign interference in our election. this is absolutely insane. steve: a question a lot of people looking in are going to have, chris, if you are allowed to vote in the local election, what will keep you have in a federal election? >> well, you know that they have very lax voter laws out in california. and as soon as it catches on in san francisco, guess what? l.a. is right behind, here comes san diego, here come the other population centers out in california. steve, in my mind, if they persist on giving foreign nationals a voice in selecting our leaders, i think california ought to be punished there is a couple of ways we can do this. if they persist in this activity coming up in the 2018 election, i think that congress should refuse to seat any of their representatives. they be republican or democrat.

there and joining us right now live. janice: hi. steve: i knew jillian and rob golfed i not know you golfed. janice: i did not golf. i meant well this was a project near and dear to my heart. you know i'm married to a firefighter who has been a firefighter for over 20 years. we knew ray. my husband knew ray for 20 years. he was a wonderful guy that loved "fox & friends." actually the summer concert series, he used to come to the summer concert series. jillian: did he really? janice: did he. he saw bret michael's from poison. he was part of our "fox & friends" family. he died last year of 9/11 related cancer and first annual golf outing happened last month i had some help from my friends. take a look. >> ray never stops. even when he was sick he always had one liners and quick whit. >> he wanted to train all the new firefighters make sure no one was hurt and goes home safe. >> even with his illness, he kept going and going and

going. janice: on the morning of september 11th, 2001, ray made his way down to the world trade towers where they once stood to dig for his friends and colleagues. >> we were down there for days, weeks, months. and i know ray played an integral part of the recovery effort down at 9/11, the trade center. janice: the air he breathed poisoned his body and he was eventually diagnosed with cancer. ray kept going. his goal was to ghetto washington and get lawmakers to extend a bill which grants health insurance to 9/19/11 sur responders and survivors. >> he got involved and it became what he lived for joan january do the right thing even when no one is looking. >> exactly. and we all live by that. janice: it's what inspired the ray pfeiffer foundation helping first responders who are sick from a 9/11 related disease in ways that the

heroes, his brothers is why blacklist share topic takes part. >> i'm a retired firefighter. you know, served on 9/11. extremely personal to me. it's scary that something like that still haunting us. not just by the loss of brothers but just the diseases and aftermath and it's beautiful to have these type of get togethers but the reason is painful. janice: it's for reasons like this that donations rolled in featuring a silent auction with sports memorabilia, artwork, and a special piece from someone who lived through that fateful day. >> you donated a significant item for this auction today. >> my fire helmet that i wore on 9/11. >> why did you do that? >> i could give back every dave and it would never be enough. and this is just my little bit that i know i can give. janice: that historic helmet turned into a big donation.

government. that, among other things, showed that only 10% of government assist you had refugees from syria were in any kind of employment in canada. so perhaps that's why two years later reporters from the vancouver sun haven't been able to find any information from the canadian government about what has happened to these people. steve: absolutely. they simply have not updated any status reports so that folks know where they at, if they're still there. if there are more than they thought before. but, you know, douglas, when you look at the number of migrants who have gone in to, for instance, germany, i mean, and now angela merkel she is in a pickle, politically because of all the trouble that that gesture in the beginning, that humanitarian gesture it looked great but now they are facing the real life consequences of those thousands of people in their country. >> we all have this problem now everywhere in the world, in the developed worlded of politicians who sometimes seem to do things for, you know, tomorrow morning's

newspapers or today's reaction on twitter. just opening up your country to migration on this scale is something that effects your country for generations. it doesn't go away in the 24-hour news cycle. and the german government is seeing this now. the swedish government is seeing this now. every country is seeing the consequences of this now. what i warned about in my book. and that's because we have to ask far deeper questions about this. it's not enough to virtue signal. have you got to work out what you are going to do. and if you bring in tens of thousands of refugees, let alone the illegal migrants that are coming into europe in recent years, then have you got to have some plan. you can't just leave them in the country. it' as that's what canada has done. and now it just wants to cover over the consequences of that decision. steve: but you know, douglas, the problem with bringing in all these syrian refugees is the fact that a lot of them and we have seen stories about how isis would try to infiltrate various western nations to try to infiltrate and do whatever isis does, because they

didn't have proper paperwork. and so, for all of these leaders to be going, yeah, come to my country, we're going to take care of you, it looks like, to you, a lot of those gestures are just simply the pc, the politically correct thing to say at the time. >> well, they certainly are there is certainly a security dimension to this. it's already been demonstrated in europe. many, many times the security. of course many of the people fleeing the security civil war most of them are trying to flee groups like isis. this is the set of problems we have. there is obviously the security component. but, the much more obvious one is the idea that you can save, for instance, people fleeing from the syrian civil war and best idea is to put them into canada is a terrible mistake. there is a swedish academic who pointed out you can look after 100 syrians in the neighboring country interest tries around syria. for every one person. it cost the same amount.

i have been a coach. i'm now a parent. i have seen all sides of this. how do you get it under control and give some parents some perspective? >> i don't know that anyone is getting it under control so as a referee. my first and foremost passion is to be a referee i watch a lot of youth referees and inexperienced referees watch them to struggle. some of the toughest game is u 6, u 8, u 10 and u 14 every game is the world cup. everyone knows there is a problem and everybody knows there is there is an issue. none of these clubs or organizations none of these youth sport associations are doing anything about it so i thought, you know what? i'm -- i own a marketing company by trade and i know how to organize a vision and execute a goal and so we put together off side. we shame people and embarrass them. you know what? don't act like that.

ainsley: they embarrass themselves. exactly. they can send in tape if f. they tape it parents getting in fights. >> asking to be part of the solution as opposed to sitting back and watching. now when to sporting events, you see this kind of stuff. we are asking people to get involved. if you start seeing a parent or coaches are rarely the issue. if you do see a coach start getting out of control. we are asking that you pull your videotape. start recording it. send it to your offside page on facebook. listen, we get a lot of videos. if we post it we give you $100 every single time and then what happens is these videos usually get 100 to 220,000 views. that will probably grow in the future. and then, you know, the point of the videos is to make people understand and this has happened. when you are on video, and you are caught acting like a fool or what we call a cheeseburger. you realize you have made a butt of yourself and you tend to change the dynamics of your behavior. and that's what we're looking for.

immigrants are citizen children, even if they're not, they are resident in the united states and supreme court has said there is obligation from public education to educate these children, even if they are in the country without proper documentation or illegally. i understand the motive what the people's republic of san francisco is trying to do. it seems to me though, just as an attorney, the law in california is pretty clear. you have to be a citizen of the united states to vote. you have to be a resident of the state of california. you have to be 18 years old. you have got to be in jail for a felony or on parole for a felony. you can't be deemed mentally incompetent. i can't see with those laws how you squeeze legality into people voting who aren't citizens of the united states. steve: they're just making it up. they're just making it up. >> they are doing it, this is part of trump derangement syndrome, if i may, steve. this is trying to screw the big man. screw the federal government.

about skills, training, and education for workers at all stages in their careers. so traditionally the government is only focused on education for those younger than the age of 25 but in a rapidly changing judge tall economy we know we're not best at training workers that will lead to industry and the states, there is a lot of data we have can at least enable people to make better decisions around education, where the jobs are located, what jobs are vacant but i think one of the exciting things about that announcement it was a real call to action for the private sector. in addition to announcing the u.s. government council we also created a pledge to america's workers and this was something that was started yesterday. over close to four million jobs were agreed to in that room yesterday afternoon. >> steve: wow. >> walmart agreed to one million

enhanced career opportunities. fedex, 500,000. we had some of the largest trade associations. this will keep rolling in the days, weeks to come. what they're committed to, is in such an incredibly robust environment where business optimism is so high. they want to insure that they have skilled employees. so they are reaching into the high schools, saying we'll train you for jobs that we have vacant because of the roaring economy. but they're also going to look at their own workforces say, based on automation, based on the rapid changes from a technology, technological perspective there is going to be disruption and we're going to take some of our mid to late career workers and we'll reskill them and give them new and better opportunities within our companies to do other jobs. it is really exciting initiative. it's a bold initiative. but 3.8 million jobs were committed to yesterday by the private sector with no government funding. ainsley: wow. >> it is really exciting.

we'll take this pledge. we'll bring it around the country. after the announcement apple subsequently said they wanted to sign the pledge to america's worker. boeing signed for an additional 100,000 job opportunities for america's workers. oracle came out yesterday evening after the announcement. hopefully this continues to grow. really a call to action for business large and small. ainsley: this is what americans care about. >> yes. ainsley: why so many people went to the polls to vote for your dad. if you don't have a job, you're stressed out. you can't feed your family. you can't put your kids into college. we want a better life for our kids. by doing this, so many people get their foot in the door. if you get your foot in the door at walmart, you can work your way up. you can become a manager, work at corporate office one day. some people don't have a chance to get their foot in the door. steve: the skills. ainsley: that's right, the skills. why is this so important to you? >> it is not just about securing a job. it is about creating a career for everyone. one of the ceo's who signed the

pledge from ups, he started out loading trucks at ups and he is now running the company, and he signed the pledge too. commit to create pathways for other ups employees to do exactly the same. it is tremendous opportunity n an economy this strong, we have the chance to bring people who have been marginalized, who have been on the sidelines, bring them back into the workforce. allow them to secure family sustaining jobs. it is such a unique opportunity. the president yesterday mentioned those who have been in prison, served their time, reentered society. we know empirically, we know from the data, if they have a job, they are, our communities are safer. less likely to fall back into the crime cycle, wind up incarcerated again if they secure a job. they can become greatest workers if given a second chance. steve: sure. ainsley: >> people otherwise overlooked are getting those opportunities.

i really think it is important to think about our mid to late career workers who are looking to learn a new skill. >> some have given up, ivanka. >> trusting in those people. steve: some of the people in the late career stages have given up because there are not jobs out there. >> the trump economy we're seeing that change. a robust economy is good for the american worker in several ways. one of the ways is we're seeing wages rise. wages have been stagnant in the past decade. they're rising at fastest clip in many years. we're starting to see that change. means people are reentering the workforce. last month alone in june, 600,000 workers entered or reentered the workforce. that is incredibly exciting. people coming off the sidelines, looking for a job, putting their hat back in the ring. we want to encourage that. we want to make sure that companies and trade associations are stepping up to the plate, giving them skills they need. for our younger workers, for
