predictably the media freaks out, forgetting the whole north korea thing which followed the same pattern. forgive me if i'm not pulling my hair out. i will take a war of words over a war of worlds. the media claims the tweet is a distraction from last week's summit. how did that summit heard from? for all the media shaming come he is at 45% approval, his eyes so far. we are happier with that country's direction than any time over the last eight years. this confuses the media, as they keep saying trump is the worst thing to happen since "the view." they be because they have cried wolf so many times, even blitzer annoys it. the gulf between what the media wants to matter and what actually matters. in terms of what is important to voters, the russian inclusion story is so small he can barely be measured, under 1%. two americans, jesse's new haircut mattered more, and it's not even a good haircut. look at it. it's bad, very bad.

i will say the same democrats upset with donald trump for tweeting in caps sent in iran billions in all cash. juan. against iran. when you look at what's being reported, as juan tried to distract back to you, there are very serious things going on in iran come all that we have been focused on other topics on the service level with the media in the united states. serious consequences to what could happen there. inflation is 159%, a third of the iranian you have unemployed. the iranian regime's face the consequences of using all the money they've been getting from the united states and the europeans and they are spending it on terrorism. the people there have been protesting for years because they know that. look at the speech secretary pompeo gave at the reagan library. it's clear they are not single -- we are not saying we want regime change. talking about more sanctions. answering back when iran threatens us first and dealing with the problem quite frankly president obama didn't handle very well. >> dana: the location of the

iran component through the iran deal. president trump got rid of it. there is going to be consequences going forward with how the administration deals with the regime and they are obviously looking at the idea of iran not being able to sustain economically any kind of sanctions or further pressure the united states puts on them because it will lead to regime change which the u.s. is not officially pushing for. based on the things that have said, the pressure put on, pompeo calling out the leaders by name and saying their hypocritical holy men and tweeting in farsi to the activists on the ground there. this is an overall strategy for the administration. it's not just a distraction from russia, because we have been dealing with this even before comp became president on the campaign trail. >> greg: does anybody like the mullahs? in iran, i mean. how much sweeter they have? >> dana: with the military, they get the goodies. it's a typical dictatorial regime. the other thing we forget is that in afghanistan and iraq in

particular, iraq is doing much better from a law and governance standpoint, but iran is causing additional problems and they are moving into afghanistan. >> juan: and you forget there is a counter to u.s. sanctions. u.s. sanctions are going to cause some pain for the iranians but don't forget the other parties in what was the six party agreement on the iranian deal are still in it. >> katie: a terrorist regime. >> juan: i would agree they are terrorists but -- the united states acting unilaterally, we are becoming more isolated and weak around the world stage. we should have our allies with us going against the iranians. we shouldn't be separated out so we can be identified by the mullahs as the big bad americans were trying to run the world. >> katie: do you think the president's tweet was strong or weak? >> juan: i think it was a distraction from all the trouble with the russians in helsinki. >> greg: we want to pull back yet we want to run the world. how is that possible?

>> jesse: president trump is threatening to pull the security clearances of several former top obama intelligence officials including james comey, john brennan, james clapper, andrew mccabe, susan rice, and michael hayden. the white house accusing them of politicizing or monetizing their former positions and making baseless claims about president trump. here are some recent examples of their attacks. >> and mr. trump did yesterday was to betray the women and men of the fbi, cia, nsa and others. and to betray the american public. that's why i use the term for this is nothing short of treasonous. >> i wonder whether the russians have something on him. >> the policies this president

has pursued globally have served vladimir putin's interests. >> i think he is morally unfit to be president. >> jesse: wow. dana, will this have an impact on these players at all, or is this a public humiliation? >> dana: i think it is the latter. political retaliation. if any of them are going back to the agency and getting a security briefing and then using that knowledge to get money off of it inappropriately, that would be a villi electrical -- a violation of the department of justice should look into. they have gone out and done books and on tv contracts or wrote books. mccabe is not a good example because his security clearance was deactivated. hayden tweeted he's never gone back and have a security briefing. i'm assuming the trump officials are not breathing people like susan rice and clapper and

brennan. it looks like political retaliation. the practical result, not much. >> jesse: great for fodder. >> greg: i am a big fan of fodder. just dropped into our show. how does brennan have a security clearance? a guy who is as trustworthy as jesse's barber. i agree with you, dana. so you are saying we are colluding? we are going to say you are colluding. it is like tic-tac-toe. it is like rochambeau. everyone is coming after each other. you can disagree with the administration, but i think they have ventured into undermining it. they have. come on. when you call the president a traitor, treasonous. you are undermining it. take what his clearance. >> juan: what if you are speaking the truth? >> greg: it doesn't matter. >> dana: even if this happens to them, i don't think they are going to change anything they are saying. >> juan: you are making the key points.

they are not being briefed. this fits into a narrative from president trump they would say these are the citizens of the deep state and they hate me. they've been trying to beat me during the campaign and they are still trying to undermine me. the problem with the argument is if you really want to know somebody who is doing the dirty deeds with actual intelligence, how about michael flynn? your national security advisor, mr. president. what about people like will hurd who was a cia agent, now in the congress, a republican who says he thinks you are being used by president putin? what about people like ryan fitzpatrick, mike rogers, good republicans to say something odd is going on between the russians and president trump. >> jesse: it is more than retribution against what you call the deep state, juan. some of the things they've said have been outrageous, as greg mentioned. but now that you have the fisa warrant, carter page. it shows extreme abuse of the system.

>> jesse: we have evidence. unverified information on the warrant application. >> juan: republican fisa judges who stop repeated requests from the fbi and granted them all. >> jesse: has he been indicted for anything? is he a russian agent, juan? i don't think so. carter page doesn't really strike me as a really brilliant brilliant -- >> katie: carter page, if he has a security clearance, it must be revoked immediately. getting back to the topic of security clearances goes, the system needs to be cleaned up. i think are valid questions about why senior officials get to keep their security clearances. when you look at what the administration is accusing these former officials, two of them who work for trump, comey and mccabe, they see it as an interference with the nation's business and interference of the office of the president. if you look at the twitter feed of john brennan, james clapper,

susan rice, they are not just talking about disagreements in terms of foreign policy. they are talking about why aren't republican speaking out? susan rice is tweeting about getting out the vote against republicans. james comey saying if you want to save america, you have to vote for democrats in the fall. there's a question about whether people who want to engage in those kinds of politics should have access to top-secret information at the highest levels of the government when they may not be getting briefed by the administration but they could still be talking to people inside those agencies and getting information to further their political -- >> juan: the point here is they have credibility and people might listen to them. >> katie: james clapper has credibility? >> jesse: lied to the american public repeatedly. >> juan: i am telling you i think trump wants to undermine the entire intelligence community. >> jesse: they did that to themselves. the media anointing a new front runner to take on

jesse. elizabeth warren stands for single-payer health care. she wants to help young people who have heavy tuition debt coming out of college. she thinks a minute minimum wae was a good idea. how do you feel? >> jesse: i think she has a good shot at getting the nomination. the base likes her. i think she can excite a crowd. she's younger than biden. and she is female. she's exciting. and i think she also has a lot of negatives. the pocahontas thing is going to kill her. she has an identity crisis there. i think that name stuck and it cuts and it hurts. it went viral. she hasn't been able to get over it. the phony factor is a problem. i don't know if she can play nationally. northeastern liberal, i don't all that prison had carolina or arizona or a place like that. she's got no wall street suppor

the service level about bringing back middle-class jobs, fighting for the little guy but the thing she votes for and supports like minimum wage hikes and not taking down dodd-frank, bringing in robots to take minimum wage jobs. it hurts small businesses that can't get small business loans to further their ambitions. her policy don't match up with her working-class rhetoric. i'm not sure she has enough interest externality, like joe biden, to make it on the far left. >> juan: what does that mean? >> katie: she is too white, not diverse enough even though she pretends to be a minority. the far left of the party isn't going to take someone like that. >> juan: dana, something we've seen in the trump universe. white suburban women. they are uncomfortable with separating children from parents. >> dana: it's for a tale of two midterms. you have in the house the president needs to keep some

independence in his corner so we can help keep the house. in the senate, to keep the senate, he needs his base, republicans to turn out. in some ways polls are not that instructive on independents, if those women decide not to vote for him, the house might go. for democrats moving form, they have learned lessons. so have republicans. voters want what they can't have. in 2012, republicans were begging chris christie to run. he didn't. he chose to run in 2016, and his moment has passed. i think it's the same for elizabeth warren. in 2016, she would've had the left-wingers alfred she would have eclipsed bernie sanders. she decided to endorse hillary clinton, and others so much energy and attention on the left that her time has probably passed. >> greg: i think you neglected to point out "new york magazine," that is their comedy issue. once he or they do it. they have all the stuff written by the at "time" magazine.

"the wall street journal" argues the lists serve as a shortcut and cheap substitutes for not being more adventurous earlier in life. dana, this author. can't you have a bucket list throughout your life? i don't see it as an end-of-life thing. like i'm going to die. >> dana: i think it becomes pressure, thinking about the things you want to do before you die. i think it's an interesting concept. i think older people are doing it now because their path was to work hard in their 20s and they did things in this order. school, marriage, job, kids.

retirement. then they can do these things. i think it has flipped now. younger people want to have these experiences now. they are delaying things until they get to have their gap years or things like that. >> katie: i think the experiences are more assessable now, things available in the world because of the way the economies have worked. >> juan: i think there was a piece in the saturday journal. what struck me as he says enough with bucket list. let's move on. if you really want to do something, go help somebody. go volunteer, go make a difference in the world. i was struck by that. i thought that's a pretty powerful message. >> katie: greg, isn't this something you would have written? >> greg: yes. joe queenan is almost always right. as a writer, journalist, the bucket list was never really a thing. nobody made a list. it was a device created by

freelance writers to write adventure and travel pieces for magazines. it was a way to make money. they go let's do something on bucket list. that means i can do outward bound in colorado. i can go climb everest. i have what i call the reverse bucket list which i am trying to remove stupid behavior from my past. i don't want to add things. i want to remove things. >> dana: the bucket has no bottom if you are one of those journalists. it's kind of smart. >> katie: jesse, i am sure your bucket list started in the womb. amazing things happening. >> jesse: i have had crazy, dangerous experiences growing up and now i want to avoid them. i don't want to swim with sharks or skydive or run with the bulls. i don't want to do any of that. i want a drink and relax. that's all i want to do. >> katie: one about the accusation in this essay that if you have a bucket list of

three days after boxes of chips spontaneously combusted. both fire started when they were testing new ways to handle chip waste. the austin fire department said they were distressed to be called out to a tortilla chip warehouse twice to battle the fire rating in a facebook post, "tortillas are big around these parts, we take them very seriously as they are responsible for holding all manner of very important things like queso, salsa, nachos and other sun-dried items that are critical to a texan's every day life and well-being. they are very sad that they spontaneously combusted and i'm sure there were a lot of austin residents that are very sad. but after the two fires they had no choice but to drown out the rest of the chips in the warehouse to make sure the risk was completely taken away. there might be a chip shortage in texas, which is not good. >> maybe they could get some from somewhere else. >> there you go.
