pretty easy to determine whether someone is here legally or not. not that long ago bill clinton argued in public that our country should deport illegal immigrants. they are breaking our law. now, democrats claim that non-citizens even illegal ones have a right to vote in our elections. that is happening in san francisco and in parts of the say the of maryland. -- in the state of maryland. by 2020 it will happen in many other places guaranteed. you think congressional republicans would be upset about this. allowing illegals to occupy and run our country making mockery of citizenship. it's a death sentence for the republican party. nope, republicans on the hill seem okay with this. in 2014 the obama administration changed the rules so anybody claiming a threat from gang violence or domestic violence could get asylum in the united

states. they could enter if they provided the right story. jeff sessions reversed the obama rule and republicans are teaming up with democrats to top sessions from doing that. yesterday they attacked an amendment on a bill in the house to preserve the asylum rights of anybody who claims to flee gang violence. that would nullify any effort to secure our southern border. now 150 million people can cite that fact as a justification to move here and stay. they will find democrats eager to give them the right to vote. house republicans could stop this. they are not even trying. one person who thinks republicans ought to care about this issue is former house speaker newt gingrich. he wrote a piece about the

left's plan to win non-citizen voting. we spoke to him. mr. speaker, thanks for joining us tonight. you argued that the point of the democrats immigration policy is to increase their electoral share. how do you think this works? >> it's pretty trade forward. they think they get the vast majority of votes from illegal immigrants in san francisco. now made it possible to vote without being a citizen. there are other places across the country where democrats are advocating for people who are not yet citizens to vote. they think they have a harder time winning an election with law-abiding americans. the more people they can bring in that don't know american history and don't understand the constitution and are not part of our traditional values, the better off their chances are. that's why every democratic senator co-sponsored feinstein's

open border bill that opened the border to everybody to come to america. >> tucker: republicans have controlled the congress for a lot of the time. even today republicans on the hill are trying to undo the attorney general's efforts to tighten the border. why don't republicans on the hill understand the threat that these policies pose to the country and to them? >> i frankly don't get it. let's start with sanctuary cities which is the most popular position that president trump has. 84% of the country, 8 out of 10 americans believe sanctuary cities increase crime. for common sense democrats to unify around to establish a public policy. you have the constant drum beat

controlling the american border as i am. i am in favor of legal immigration. i can tell you i even voted in 1986 for amnesty which promised us control of the border. reagan signed it and wrote in his memoir that the only reason he did was to get control of the border. the congress broke its word. we had 10 times as many people come in under amnesty as we were told. 3 million instead of 300,000 and president reagan did not get the things he was promised: a work permit system does control of the border. ever since i have been skeptical. a large part of the national elite for some reasons loves immigration and dislikes controlling the border and smears people. if you say i am for legal immigration but against people crossing the border illegally,

say what we were taught it says? >> you have to read the whole 14th amendment. there is a clause in the middle subject to the jurisdiction of the united states. what they are saying if you are born on u.s. soil subject to the jurisdiction of the united states, mean you go are the wild of citizens or the child of legal immigrants, then you are entitled to citizenship. if you are here illegally, that clause doesn't apply to you. all of the senators discussing what this means are clear on this point. i tried to point that out. i expected the left would glow up and get angry which they did. i didn't expect how angry the conservatives got with me. they said any opposition to birth right citizenship is racist and evil and un-american.

i am still in the middle of this debate. i am happy to do it. you ask the speaker, why are the republicans so bad on this question? he gave you some answers. why are the so-called conservatives so bad on this question? >> tucker: the non-profit people who have been consuming billions of donations for 40 years as the country gets more liberal and lecture people like you. >> i know who you are talking about. >> tucker: let me ask you this. the people who wrote the 14th amendment doesn't envision a moment when chinese would fly to saipan to become u.s. citizens.

that wasn't under consideration? >> no, the purpose of the 14th amendment was to settle the question of the citizenship of freed black slaves. this was right after the silvil war. -- civil war. some cited the dread scott decision that said no black person can ever be a citizen. congress said we will overturn that forever. if you are born here, you are a citizen and no state can take that away from you. they also made it clear that you have to be not subject to any foreign power to be eligible for birth right citizenship. all of the people freaking out about, they don't have an answer. they glide past it and point to other things that are not relevant. if you read the debate, it's clear that the framers meant.

said about that in many case. this is a complex effort. i would say there is no perfect immigration system. we chose to give birth right citizenship in this country. i would tell everyone at home to imagine what the u.s. would like today without this birth right citizenship. they immigrated and their children became citizens through that right. >> tucker: i am not calling for an end to immigration. i think we should pause it. but that's a separate conversation. why bring citizenship to the children of someone here illegally? you are breaking our laws. could we say if you are here illegally, birth right citizenship doesn't apply to
