that is why gop leaders were at the white house trying to get the president to avoid a messy showdown but as we learned he reversed course on sunday. yesterday he made it very clear he is not afraid of the showdown. >> if we don't get border security after many years of talk within the united states, i would have no problem doing a shutdown. >> always leave room for negotiation but this is been many years, not just trump administration. it has been many years, even decades. >> working on passing a few appropriations, measures, none of which involved immigration measures, the president's comments through caution from members of his own party like senator lindsey graham worried about taking the blame.

government in order to get funding for the border wall. brandon jed said he will support the president in order to put a end to the battle. >> the border patrol agent, i would support shutting down the government if in fact it was going to lead to border security. this is a topic we have been discussing for years on end. i have been a border patrol agent for 21 years, this comes up year after year after year. we finally need to get a hold of this. we are not talking illegal immigration, we are talking about illegal immigration and we need to get a handle on it. the left want voters was we look at it from the right and they want cheap labor and we are caught in the middle trying to fix a problem that has existed for years on end and we are not getting support from either side, democrats or republicans. this is an uphill battle the president is willing to take on and hopefully wins this battle.

as cyber security expert, great to have you here, what is the main threat or threats facing the us? >> threats are coming in for the past couple years, russia, china, iran, north korea is probing our systems and not just our election systems but water, electric grid, power supply, all those things and americans have less faith in our electoral system. >> let's show right now the initiative over the next 90 days, in my estimation there is a lot of jargon. i want you to tell us exactly what they are doing first and is that what they need to be doing? >> dhs has been on top of this, the primary voice in terms of cybersecurity regarding the election process. what they are trying to do is

gain more federal control over what the states are doing in terms of election systems. the problem is a booklet to pass where every state and county has its own way whether it is a paper ballot, or connect to the internet, the department of homeland security is trying to unite these and implement ways of these election counts. rob: you can't hack paper but it leads to a lot of confusion and things along those lines. >> it is not the only way forward. the internet of things, everything connected to the internet, this is the wave of the future the development of homeland security recognizes they have to move forward. >> will these recommendations be implement it by the midterms? the midterms are a few days away for all intents and purposes. >> there have been hints this is the work that for a couple

months but this is a huge spanning process that has been going on for some years. you have to get different measures to reunite the system. rob: i'm thinking of the poll worker who has implement these. a sweet little old italian lady going to the polls making sure everything works. in the computer age, she has no idea what she's doing. poll workers in all 50 states are retirees like my grandmother. do they have the wherewithal to handle this? >> they have to understand not necessarily how the systems work. they won't be implanting these systems, but here are the buttons you have to push. what the government is worried about is some sort of malware attack. they follow this noise, people start getting nervous about how to use these systems but poll workers keep that under control.

the state to take away people's guns if a judge finds they are the threat to themselves or others. the majority of these cases involved peoples with histories of mental illness who threatened to hurt themselves. the panels county sheriff is not taking this lightly. the constitutional right to bear arms and when you are asking the court to deprive somebody of that right we need to make sure we are making good decisions, right decisions and the circumstances warrant it but this new sparking a firestorm on social media. not everybody is on board with this. that is a violation of the constitution. another twitter user writing opening up a can of worms here. the interpretation of a threat by a judge will eventually lead to abuse of the law. but cheryl is calling it a good start. this measure raises the minimum age to buy a gun from 18 to 21. rob: debate in florida.

a curious play by a house candidate seems like something the south doesn't go for a lot. >> democratic house candidate calling for amnesty for all illegal immigrants, announced his position saying i'm calling for action to help millions of undocumented people working in our communities, serving in our military and raising families by granting amnesty and this sparks a lot of reaction online similar to the last story, not everybody on board. one person saying that should be enough to sink his candidacy hopefully. whatever happened to immigrants working hard to become a citizen, the immigrants who became citizens wanted to assimilate to be us citizens. jeff on social media saying then -- been there done that, you calling the country to secure the border as well.

ramping up efforts to battle the massive wildfire spreading through california. the biggest blaze scorching 100,000 acres enforcing thousands from their homes. >> reporter: live from redding, california, battling the soft ground. >> reporter: it has been more than a week's and the car fire began, it is 23% contained. fire officials say rain is causing major obstacles for group last trying to put out the flames. the car fire has killed six people, two firefighters and four solutions. destroyed 800 homes, fueled by hot, dry conditions and more wind overnight into this morning. is the ninth most restrictive fire to hit the state of california and the most dangerous of the 20 fires burning from southern california to the oregon border. >> once in a 100 year thing.

police sergeant corrigan served as chief investigator for the new york city the permit of investigation. he joined us to weigh in. thank you for joining us. there's a lot to unravel. how much time has it taken? two weeks? what information would they be providing? >> no more than what has been released, who else or what else may have been done but going back to what her father says. every case like this, someone somewhere knows something, it may be something they don't realize helps the investigation. even if you think it has little value, let them know. jillian: why is this taking so long? is it that police are trying to get information from social media accounts? how long does that normally

take? >> the fbi is paramount, they are great in doing this but it does take time, take time to go through her computer, her phone. if they get a lead they have to follow it somewhere and we have her snapchat. a lot of material in a short time. jillian: we do have a digital footprint. how much information can it provide? >> they are going to find her at some point whether it is positive or negative. we have seen cases where women have gone missing and weeks or months later they show up and that is what they are hoping. they want to locate her no matter what regardless of what the situation is. jillian: her boyfriend, police told us he had an alibi, a couple hundred miles away. could that information change? what do you think at this time?

>> based on the small amount of information that has been released already i am surprised if they released that because it could change. what if there was a relationship somebody he knew, who knew she was going to be at his house watching his dogs alone? jillian: we are only saying that because she was out for a jog and snapchat from his house after her job. the fit bit, let's talk about that fit bit. what information can it provide? >> every electronic device contract you, facebook, twitter, you can be followed so the fbi will be able to eventually pinpoint that and follow her to the point the device was destroyed or discarded. jillian: the latest information we had, on a pig farm in the area nearby, what type of information, are they going off

of the tip or focusing on a special area? >> they had 30 to 50 fbi agents along with the iowa investigation and so they have to follow up on it and one by one they have to go through them, and let's excluded. jillian: let's talk about the importance of hope in situations like this. >> we have to have hope, the family has to have hope. you have to prepare for the inevitable but believe something good will come out that. we see so many cases across the country where somebody has gone and we have this crazy investigation, the lady locked in a been in south carolina and they found they are okay so the possibility, we don't know, we can remain hopeful. jillian: it is important to give that information out.

why have you decided you need to do this? >> based on my experience in a long duration of time in the marines, it taught me how to react in difficult situations. i knew i had the knowledge and ability to do what i had to do and the community around me that will start catching on and will team up and band together, light the fire as our servants have in the sheriff department, police departments, working as a team. they needed us to evacuate these animals so people can feel comfortable leaving their homes. jillian: you are attempting to evacuate a lot of these animals and come across some people you have been able to help. emotionally, what is that like? what is going through your head as you try to save anyone and

anything you can? >> i don't have any emotions towards it. i just focus on the job at hand. i focus on what needs to be done. i don't reflect and have to second-guess myself. my team that i have, we just react. this goes past and we get onto our normal lives. we get together and have a job to do and admission to do that we have put forth to save our people and our animals because we do our thing. rob: logistically, how are you doing this? >> i have a truck, i work for bobcat, i use it on a daily basis to help my customers and my boss and i use the truck and made a decision to load up our

horse trailer for a rental and went straight to the fire lines, started calling customers and asking if they need help because they are not just customers but friends and family. then i realized if they did need help, i went towards the fire and met its head on. i have been fighting at all the way until it regressed from us and we are picking up the aftermath and trying to do cleanup and getting everybody back to their homes. jillian: your message to folks across the country who aren't experiencing this. >> my message to people who are here to experience, everybody talked about the government, we need to bring in these big corporations and companies to help when disasters happen.
