trying to treat semi conscious drug users. nearly 80 people overdosed in the city of newhaven. they suspect the bad batch of k 2 replaced with hard drugs like opioids, the first overdoses were reported at 8:00 pm on tuesday on the newhaven green where we are now. it is in the shadows of the campus. a violent scene of mass overdoses. by wednesday morning police say they were notified of other overdoses not only in the park but the city of newhaven. as of 10:00 pm the number of overdoses clocked in at 76 people. city officials say two people have life-threatening systems but luckily there were no deaths. two men were arrested on wednesday who they believe are connected to overdoses. both men were in possession of k 2 at the time of the arrest and charged with drug possession. a little bit of background. a little over a month ago on

july 4th weekend there was another case of overdoses, 14 people overdosed on what was also believed to became 2. there were no deaths in that case and most right here in this park. that is the latest in newhaven, connecticut. jillian: is it normally a park where family is out enjoying lunch? what is it normally like? >> reporter: an interesting question because it is in the shadows of a college campus. the question is how are there so many drug users. it is a beautiful park, looks like a place where families can come and college people may set out on a nice day and read their books but this is the second time this summer there was a mass case of overdose of opioids. rob: boggles the mind, so bizarre. i can't imagine what that looked like, thank you so much. let's check in with steve doocy.
