write them. it's a dishonest group of people. i will tell you that. pete: so, does the president have a point? here to debate republican strategist chris wilson and democratic strategist steve lesser. thanks for being here live and in the flesh. chris, we hear the president making this point multiple times over and then we see more evidence that proves his point that, indeed, a lot of the press we see, if not fake, incredibly biased. >> well, of course it is. i think it's very clear the president does have a point. i think one of the great things about social media is the kind of conversations that used to take place in back rooms and privately in the newsroom now takes place where we can all see it it's almost as if the media doesn't realize we are reading their tweets and seeing the kind of things they are talking about. in the recent gallup survey more than two thirds of the media believes there is a bias. my surprise is it's not higher. and when the president goes in and he is able to communicate that and go directly to the american people, you see this sort of -- you see the reaction, the crowd that eats it up.

but, also, the interesting thing you see is he is able to change the debate and the narrative that exists around these campaigns because you have a guy like mike braun who wasn't getting much press attention. he went to montana matt rosendale. he did the same thing with kevin cramer, he comes away from the states and you see the face of these elections change almost immediately. pete: answer that question, i don't call them the mainstream media anymore. it's the left wing media. the legacy media they like to control information they once had. social media has changed that have we not now just been exposed to what was going on for a long time? >> no. i don't think so. pete: so they're not biased? >> well, look, is there a person on this earth who is not biased in some way or another? pete: correct. >> i think the point is when you see the left wing mainstreamedia,if you want to ca mistake generally have you them make a retraction. when does president trump correct himself when he is wrong because is he wrong quite a bit. what he doesn't like is the media calls him out when he is wrong. pete: that he is not truthful. >> give you an example very early on in his presidency

>> you know, there is so many things i could unpack from that but i will just say i think the way in which the media covers the president and the way they covered the obama presidency is a perfect example of that i almost think at some points you need to remind the other members of the media that whenever the democratic party puts out talking points, those are optional. you don't have to make them your press coverage for the day. i happened to be involved in the texas senate race. i know the arourke campaign put out a release about yard times. i got calls from four different reporters that day asking about that issue. it's not from the press release. yes, it was. it was absolutely derived from it i will give you one example at the end of the obama campaign. we were scandal free presidency. irs. that's on the front page of the "u.s.a. today." >> very glad chris brought that up. that's exactly what i was talking about. president obama received a dozen criticism in the media over all kinds. you just brought them up. i'm not the one who brought them up. front page of the paper. pete: argument these presidents have been treated the same that's a tough one
