[cheering and applause] jesse: this is a fox news alert, i'm jesse watters. tropical storm florence is still wounding north and south carolina. at least 12 people have died, and more than a million homes are without power. here is a look at the catastrophic storm as it came ashore yesterday morning. >> we have days of rain ahead of us. that means more rivers will rise in flood communities.

>> he see winds coming up the ocean. the rain coming in sheets sideways. this wind is strong enough to break off parts of the houses along the beach. [sound of wind blowing] [♪] >> we need a boat to get everybody out of there. jesse: wilmington, north carolina took a direct hit.

that's where we find rick leventhal. reporter: we had a lull in the rain until five minutes ago. we are expecting another heavy squall to come through here. they restored some power. but not in the historic district that is littered with trees. an unfortunate situation earlier we drove up on, some people take advantage of the storm by looting a dollar store. there were folks going into that store and walk out with all -- with arm fulls of things they didn't pay for. the wilmington police said any weren't going after the looters because the store asked them not to. after people got upset about the situation, the police moved in

and said they are making half a dozen arrests. this neighborhood littered with downed trees including one area that looked like it was hit by a twister. the roof was lifted off and a massive tree ripped up by the roots with the sidewalk torn up around it. we could see a block down the road where more trees were splintered. this entire area has seen a lot of trees come down just like that. the dillards have been living in this area for many years and they are living in to of the most of comfortable chairs we have ever seen. you guys were here riding out the storm in was no mandatory evacuation order here. but describe to me what that night was like. >> we have been here over 30

years. we have been through quite a few storms. this is one of the roughest we have been through. the wind was very heavy. the rain was very heavy. our house is over 100 years old, but it still shook. you could feel the power of the storage. reporter: it has to tear you up to see thes trees downed around you. >> downtown will never be the same. it will take 50 to 75 years for the trees to come back. reporter: not just the trees. you are an architect and were restoring an old brick building. >> the historic wilmington foundation decided to rehabilitate it, and

unfortunately it didn't make it through the storm. reporter: the brick just toppled. > reporter: you are still in love with this storm. >> we are not going anywhere. if this is a category one we'll have to think doubly hard next time. it was a tough one. reporter: it was fortunate for all the folks down here that it wasn't a stronger storm that they thought it might be. but the floodwaters will cause massive problems across the state. jesse: charge and susan are brave souls for sticking around. it looks like they are okay. i can't believe the police sent out the tweet about the looting saying they are not going to prosecute looters. that seems like an open invitation to loot. in north carolina when you loot

during a natural disaster state of emergency they jack that up to a felony. reporter: what they tweeted out initially is we are aware of the looting but management asked us not to intervene. they said the dollar store told them not to arrest anybody. they are okay with it. >> i believe the area in and around those parts. no one * is looting and people are not misbehaving. hopefully this lady gets popped for that. this is just awful. reporter: i heard of another example in wrightsville beach. possibly some kind of contractor talked there way in with a residents pass and was going in breaking into houses. i believe they caught this person because i was given some information about him. but that stuff does go on.

and they are look out for it. jesse: they have to come down hard on these people. new bern has seen some of the worst flooding from florence. that's where leland vittert joins us from now. all right, leland, what's the latest. reporter: you and i talked thursday during "the five." it's still raining and has not stopped. in new bern and atlantic beach the storm brought out the best in people. the neighborhood behind me flooded the past couple of days. one guy brought his boat down. they pulled 70 people out of the homes here. somebody knows about this neighborhood. rex bennett grew up on this street, his house is flooded.

mom's not going back. >> the devastation has been too much and she said she is done with it. reporter: we have some business to show you of rex's business. rex is a funeral director and he opened up a funeral home. tell me who you have got staying there now. >> we had 20 people who were rescued. and it was sheltering to take care of thing while the storm was going on. we heard about people who were in trouble through facebook and they were friend of ours. we just began to be praying but after that, found out they were safe and they had no place to go, i said bring them on. reporter: we were down earlier today off the coast in beaufort. we saw people in 40-knot wind

trying to rescue people who were cut off and trapped. here we have people opens up their businesses and homes to complete strangers. what makes this place so special? >> here in north carolina, you said it earlier, people don't ask for a lot of help, but we pull things together and get things done. reporter: we are on the far eastern part of north carolina. as this storm moves west there will be more neighborhoods like this. >> absolutely. there are a lot of people west of here * starting to experience the inland floating as the waters move down through the tributaries and rivers trying to get down to the coast. i just learned craven county is land locked. to the west and north and south of us are covered by water. reporter: what's it like in town right now? it's pitch black.

gas is hard to find. what about groceries? >> the few places that are open, the lines are excessively long. i passed on one gas station when we checked on mom's house earlier. the line was stretched for as far as you could see in both directions. people are just clamoring to get as much supplies as they can. tell recollection i cannot believe he opened the few central home up for these people. it must have been a surreal experience to ride out a deadly storm in a funeral home. great reporting down there. stay safe, and take care. north carolina bore the brunts of the storm but its neighbor to the south is seeing damage from the storm. joining me is ellison barber.

>> we had a much easier couple days than the guys have. the rain didn't come in until yesterday afternoon. it's relatively light right now. there was an evacuation order but officials lifted that. there is a curfew in place. it's supposed to go into effect at 8:00. the big concern for officials is the rain and the potential for flooding. the biggest worry is an hour and a half away from us in horry county. officials are working on two temporary flooding structures to try to keep a highway open. the evacuation orders are still in effect. people seem to be spending a lot of time at this waffle house. it has been open for the past couple days. one worker says she has been working from 6:00 a.m. into the

night for the last couple days. they are going to close because of that curfew. a lot of people have been talking about the waffle house. back in 2011, fema officials started using it since waffle houses are all over the place, they are usually open 24 hours. they said she could see if you a waffle house is open. for the most of part people are passing because they are worried about the curfew. officials say people need to be careful and they are urminging people to stay inside. but when you need eggs, i guess you need eggs. jesse: diamond and silk are riding out the storm in north carolina. we'll be checking in with them a little bit later. porn lawyer michael avenatti gets crushed by tucker carlson. the fact is, there are over ninety-six

jesse: hurricane florence obviously the big story all week. we thought we would take a wreak

from that and share other stories in the headlines. fake news from "washington post." take a look at this headline. another hurricane business to batter our coast. trump is complicit. "the washington post" trying to blame trump for the hurricane before the hurricane. the reason? trump pulled out of the paris climate deal. in 2017, trump's first year in office. the united states led the world in co2 reductions while china and india and the e.u. are emitting like crazy and we are reducing. speak of hurricanes. president trump tweeted this from the death toll in puerto rico from last year's storm. he said 3,000 people did not die from the hurricane after the storm had hit. when i left the island they had

6 to 18 years. then it didn't go up by much. then a long time later they started to report large numbers like 3,000. i don't think it's advantageous for the president to debate hurricane death tolls with the media. five independent studies estimate the death toll at 1,000. but the real point is the federal government did the best job it could do for puerto rico. it was the puerto rican government and the utility company that should be held accountable. and the mayor admitted they were only prepared for a category 1 hurricane, not the 5 that hit. and this is probably the most of ridiculous thing you will hear tonight. and coast guard member assisting

to get the blade to come out. jesse: he was arrested and charged with felony assault. by the way, there was almost no coverage of this violent effort bi' almost any cable news and the "new york times." the make america great again sign was hanging in the window that was broken. crazy maxine waters at it again telling her supporters he enjoys threatening trump supporters. >> the live president said i had threatened all his constituents. i did not threaten his constituents and his supporters. i do it all the time, but i

didn't do it that time. but what bother made so much was they tried to frame that as violence. that's not violence. i said if you see them anywhere. if you see them at a restaurant. if you see them in a department store. even at a gasoline station. just tell them you are not welcome here or anywhere. jesse: former trump campaign advicor george papadopoulos says he's willing to testify before a house intelligence committee. he told sean hannity he thinks he was set up by spies who wanted to intimidate donald trump. >> i meet this man who is supposedly introducing me to a girl he says is putin's niece.

one day out of the blue he drops this bomb on me about emails. i have into idea where he got this information from. he said i was coming back from russia. i never saw the emails. he dropped the bomb on me and went his own way. i don't know what his purpose was. it was incredibly shady. jesse: the president signed an executive order slapping sanctions on any country that tries to interfere with u.s. elections. that didn't get much play. north korea celebrated its 70th anniversary this week and for the first time there were no nuclear weapons on hand. the missiles usually on display were replaced with floats and flowers. hopefully we'll see more

progress on the peninsula soon. good news on the economic front. blue collar wages way up. manufacturing activity is near record highs. former president barack obama tried taking credit for the robust economy. but the chairman of the council on economic advisors sees it another way. >> this is employment for people in goods producing industries. if you look at the blue part on the left you can see a clear downward trend for president trump and a clear inflection timed almost precisely at the election. the notion that somebody might defensively assert this is a continuation of the trend is almost laughable. jesse: every chart he holds up going down, barack obama, trump is elected, goes up, you can't

ed: there is the logan act that says you cannot negotiate with foreign governments and under might foreign government. do i think john kerry is going to go to jail? no. jesse: they hit mike flynn on it. ed: here is john kerry's problem. mike pompeo quoted him. he told dana perino, i told the iranians and others, wait out donald trump. former secretaries like henry kissinger, they have been having meetings for years and years. but what's different is he's trying to undermine the administration. he went on bill maher and said president trump has the insecurity after teenaged girl. i'm waiting for madonna and others to call that sexist and get out the pink hats.
