letter dianne feinstein has. we don't know why it took her months for this to come forward. howie: even some liberal commentators at msnbc reacting cautiously. did the "new yorker" provide cover for the rest of the media to say it's safe to jump on this story. sara: now that ronan farrow has developed a reputation, if he's going to come out and say i have seen some reporting on this, i want to go out on it. his reporting on les moonves and others, but it doesn't might's the be all-end all.

we don't have enough information, even from what roman farrow reported. howie: we are left with a letter we haven't seen. even hbo's liberal bill maher says it makes us look bad. adrienne: i'm going to disagree with some of these liberal commentators. since this is a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land, the media scrutiny isn't wait should be. the #metoo era has changed everything. what might not have been as newsworthy or relevant to getting confirmed to the supreme court or any judicial nomination, it's changed now. howie: this happened at the end

bombshell in the russia investigation. the paul manafort guilty plea. the president tweeting the illegal witch hunt still in search of a crime. he has pled guilty in the second place that was supposed to take place and he signed a cooperation agreement with robert mueller. is the media speculation about how much of a serious threat to the president this is, is it justified or overblown. emily: paul manafort was the manager of donald trump's campaign and in regular contact with pro-russia forces in ukraine. it was the bipartisan swamp. he was working with the podesta group on behalf of pro-russian

howie: even as hurricane florence was bearing down on the carolinas, much of the media began battering the president as a lousy president with no empathy for hurricane victims. president trump the problem with puerto rico is their electric grid and generating plant was dead before the storms hit. i think puerto rico was an incredible unsolved success. howie: he tweeted 3,000 people did not die in puerto rico. when i left the island after the storm left there were 6 to 18 deaths. then a long time later they started to report much larger numbers like 3,000. this was done by the democrats to make me look responsible.

study is they don't think medical professionals knew how to fill out the death certificates. howie: the death toll is not 3,000, but it's not 16. people couldn't get clean water or medical supplies. the media are casting this as the president turning it into politics. adrienne: he's blaming democrats for this. there is no political advantage to him doing this is to keep this in the news a little bit longer, and again i don't know why. howie: he feels this is a devastating storm on an impoverished island and he feels he's being blamed for the high

larger concern about reporting on the culture at "60 minutes." whether fager looked the other way or problems he had in other areas? charlie: i do. david rhodes said jeff is leaving because of his text message. i'm paraphrasing. his departure is not directly related to the allegations in the "new yorker" about sexual misconduct. when you say it like that, you have got to think there is some other stuff there. howie: david rhodes, the cbs president. charlie: yes. i will just say this, howie, i have never been threatened like that and i have written a lot of tough stories and stepped on a lot of toes. have you ever been threatened by someone internally?

howie: i have had people say you better be careful and have people be mad after the fact. but others have gotten fired for taking me on. it was hours after our show last sunday this "new yorker" fees came out. six women, two of them said he forced them to perform oral sex. one said he threw the woman against the wall and there was talk of retaliation and ruined careers. you broke the news last weekend, cbs made a point of saying moonves is out and the $120 million in severrans payments will be withheld. do you think he'll ever see any of that money. charlie: the $120 new is

contingent on the investigation. so i don't have any sources on the committee that's investigating it. i do have sources inside cbs. and people inside cbs doubt he's going to get the full amount. a lot of them doubt he'll get any of it. the reason why, if you read some of the coverage that came out of it, there was some point where apparently this led the board about getting someone a job who was making misstatements about his sexual misconduct. when you mislead the board like that -- howie: that's the problem. there was a statement that said the cbs board initially brushed off statement by the women. an 83-year-old producer. he won an oscar for "pla noon."

he said -- "platoon." he said he didn't care in 30 women come forward. he's our leader. charlie: it's in need of a corporate makeover. it will probably get one. i have been speaking with a lot of people in cbs. les moonves is not going to get' of that money if any. they will have to revamp that board of directors. howie: it was a stunning quote. they will have to big out of this mess and change the culture. new flack for the bob woodward book. google is saying they are not biased and their product is perfectly fair.

biases affect the way you do things. especially when you are this emotional about something. that's why we see a lot of conservatives pick up on this. there was an email fox news obtained that they were trying to turn out the latino vote that breitbart point out it's more evidence that google was trying to help hillary clinton. howie: the president a week or so again said google was rigged against him and the right. i don't believe executives tinker with every search, though they have been accused of pushing some conservative voices down and the algorithms are written by humans. anti-trump views taint the actual product. cathy: the algorithms were written by humans.

wolfe's book. so of course they are seeing this as a bombshell, they are going to try to get the bombshell headline saying the author of this book says he's unhinged. cathy, i think too many people have last their perspective and become unhinged about trump. cathy: woodward is an old school journalist. nixon experienced that firsthand and there have been 7 presidents since. wood washed being from the washington most of. i worked for "the washington post," writers and reports and editors, there are strict guidelines.
