in a fist fight. >> laura: you are going to see donnie and marie? >> sean: i love the conerts and i love in and out bigger. it's my favorite. >> laura: country? >> sean: all country. good grief. >> laura: i am laura ingraham on a busy night in washington. we have an exclusive big interview tonight. secretary of state mike pompeo sat down for a rare interview to discuss whether john kerry, obama's former secretary of state broke u.s. law by meddling in foreign policy. plus his first reaction to an undercover video where a state department employee suggests there is a resistance inside the administration. oh, goodie. and raymond is here with a seen and unseen for the ages.
7:02 pm
here it goes. what is roseanne's death and sexuality of muppets and jack black have in common? and nancy pelosi a last ditch effort to stall the president's order about the russian investigation. we begin tonight with the latest on the fast developing brett kavanaugh fight. the calls began early this morning. the message for the kavanaugh resistance was clear. it began with an appearance by the ghost of's confirmation past. >> they wanted an fbi investigation before she testifies. is that the right move? should the senate honor her request? >> absolutely it's the right move. the hearing questions need to have a frame. >> the fbi is good at this. they do cold cases all the time.
7:03 pm
they can in days figure out if there is corroboration. >> it would be helpful it judge kavanaugh would say i prefer an investigation by the fbi. >> laura: none of them want to examine the facts. we will do that. last night we are a former high level fbi agent tell us the fbi is trying to use kavanaugh has their political annial. and john roberts reported that a law enforcement official said there won't be an investigation into the allegations against
7:04 pm
judge kavanaugh. there are no allegations of a federal crime and the only investigation the fbi does is the background investigation. they find the info and pass on it. they don't investigate the information. the law enforcement source told fox news, this is a political issue. not a law enforcement one. boy, is that true. it's not just the politically inclined advancing this narrative. cheerleaders are piling on. one tweet this afternoon. a number of fbi agents said people who makeup allegations tend not to demand that the fbi investigated them. he is not the only one advancing this narrative. there is one problem: ford hasn't stated that she is willing to talk to the fbi.
7:05 pm
she just wants kavanaugh investigated. do you think that might be an important detail? late this afternoon, senator grassley at wits end over this charade submitted a letter which was scathing to the judiciary committee democrats slamming their persistent abuse of the confirmation process through delay and obstruction with every argument available. here to shed more light on this is the former assistant director of the fbi, bill gavin. you were called out which we will play in a moment. your reaction to where we stand now with this drum beat for fbi involvement. >> laura, i am amazed at this whole thing. number 1, everybody is calling for an investigation. an investigation of what?
7:06 pm
there is no preddicate offense. if there was a rape or sexual assault, the investigation should have been done by the local authorities and the statute of limitations ran on that. number 2, background investigations it's over and done. could the white house say open it up again? they could but it won't happen. in this particular case, what could come from opening the background investigation again? interview who? number 1 the alleged victim has been offed by senator feinstein where she produced a redacted letter and nobody knows what happened. judge kavanaugh gave his point of view. his friend alleged i have no
7:07 pm
knowledge of this and nor would i think judge kavanaugh would do anything like that. they are trying to put the fbi -- it's a no win situation for the bureau. they will say you didn't do your job. >> laura: but, someone from nbc took you to task on that analysis. i will play it for you. let's watch. >> my sources are presented another view than the one you just heard from bill gavin. the fbi could investigate this. not as a criminal matter but as part of their role background checking federal nominees. they can only do that if the white house asks them to look into this investigation. >> laura: this is the rub. it's the president. it always goes back to president trump. if president trump really cares
7:08 pm
about women and to protect women and sexual assault allegations, he would demand that the fbi try to get these old georgetown kids to talk about a keg party. is. >> any validity to that point? >> no, what he said, you could dig up? who you are going to dig up? there is nobody who it tell you anything at this point in time. he said you could put them under oath. you don't put anybody under oath in this situation. you attain the facts and feed them to the white house and the congress and let them do what they want. >> laura: this is political. >> it is. all they are trying to do is delay the vote and do it any way
7:09 pm
they can. i probably should not say that but that's the way i feel. >> laura: bill, it's the way a lot of americans feel tonight. thank you very much for being here. the american justice system the burden of proof should be on the person levelling the accusations. in the case of brett kavanaugh his political opponents want it the other way. take this, for instance. late last night a second corroborating witness came forward with a letter to senator grassley's office. he attended georgetown prep with kavanau kavanaugh, he denied that the party she described ever happened. he further vouched for kavanaugh's character. this huge development received very little pick up in the more

dominant mainstream press even by cnn who broke the story. why? here is greg a former chief nominations council to the senate judiciary committee and gale trotter an attorney and spokeswoman. greg, let's start with you. your reaction to the latest development. specifically the attempt to weaponize the fbi in a political calculation for the democrats. >> that appears to be what is happening here. it's painful for me to watch. there is a process there. it's confidential and keeps politics out and keeps the cameras away. it's designed to avoid politics and get to the truth. the senate democrats chose to go another way to make it about politics that is unlikely to
7:11 pm
yield truth. >> laura: gale, a senator for the me too spoke out today. >> they are trying to bully her to testify on monday before the full fbi background check is completed. without the benefit of the fbi investigation and without corroborating witnesses to be able to testify, it's a sham hearing. i don't think she should participate. >> laura: should not participant. a couple of days ago they asked for her to testify. she uses the phrase background check. you don't do a background check in this process. i can't believe she is a sitting u.s. senator. i can't believe she uses those phrases. a lack of knowledge about the process. >> it's legal illiteracy.
7:12 pm
judge kavanaugh already passed 6 investigations. you look at what happened with the accuser. her lawyers went to the "washington post" to tell the story. then they said they would let her testify. then 36 hours later they said she was not going to. senator grassley should be commended. and said we will fly to california and do something public or private to get her story out there. they want to take her seriously. i think the fact is this is a partisan smear and attempt to delay. it's falling apart. >> laura: a senator who was vocal on this spoke out as well. >> the latest being a letter from the chairman to the democrats saying we have done everything to contact her. that's such [bleep]. i can't hardly stand it. >> laura: according to senator's grassley office they made
7:13 pm
several attempts to contact her lawyer and phone calls. the total of nine different attempts at communication -- 11 total now. they have been trying. they can't even agree on whether grassley's people were trying to get in touch with her. >> the democrats and staff refused to participate in the investigation going on right now. they are not taking part in the interviews of judge kavanaugh and they are boycotting everything. to take the position that the republicans are not taking the allegations seriously, it's the democrats that sat on the allegations for week and they are obstructing any effort to look into it. >> laura: and gale made this point. senator grassley and president trump said we want to hear from her today. i thought that was good. i would like to get this done. he said take as much time as you
7:14 pm
need. going farther than grassley. grassley said we will do it on the phone or in person or in private. a conference call. i don't know what else they can do at this point. >> chairman grassley has been accommodating and patient in the face of antics from the other side. one of the senators who is most well known for his commitment to investigations and oversight. he has a team on the committee that is experienceed in doing these things. he is trying to do his job which i can't say to be true for everybody else. >> laura: the other so-called witness, this patrick smith. he said he never saw any behavior like this on brett kavanaugh's part. every person she cites they are opposing her view.
7:15 pm
this case is falling apart. >> you have to take the overwhelming amount of evidence that anyone that knows judge kavanaugh, none of them believe this is a credible allegation. >> laura: what happens friday? >> i don't know. we will see day-to-day. i think people on the committee want to hear from her. >> laura: she has a friday deadline. i would do the vote on friday. you have to teach your kids a lesson and teach the senators playing this game a lesson. thanks to both of you. we have seen how this is playing out in the halls of congress. how are the voters processing this. we bring in frank lund. from the people you are talking to, how will this kavanaugh circus play out in the mid-terms? >> based on what that
7:16 pm
conversation just held i question whether this will be significant 10 days from now. it looks like she is not going to testify. the american people believe in fairness and believe everyone deserves their day in court. they want to hear what she has to say. she has strong allegations. one of the big questions among the men i talked to is how far back are you going to hold someone accountable for the behavior they did? if what someone did when you are 17 is that applicable to someone in their 50s? for women, the question is: is she going to get her day in court? is she going to respond to those that support her and oppose her. >> laura: i do an informal poll on the radio in the morning. it's interesting to hear from men and women. this is from across the country,

7:18 pm
2016. you want a majority of white women. everyone thought because of what happened during the campaign, he would crater. one of the reasons he didn't is they thought he meant what he said. it doesn't mean they liked his language. in this situation you may see women angry that they are be used and pulled into a political process they want no part of it. this doesn't seem authentic right now. >> laura: thanks. up next a big exclusive. secretary of state mike pompeo joins me in a rare interview taking on john kerry's attempts to undermine president trump on the iran issue and his thoughts on google giving in to the chinese communicate. -- communist. you don't want to miss this. ouc! loaded with bold flavor. ouc! just tear, eat...

with secretary of state mike pompeo. mr. secretary, thanks for joining us. iran. in the views. brian hook your special enjoy saying we want to deal with roan. -- iran. a treaty with iran? the iranian leader said no. what is going on? >> president trump has been clear since he ran for office the arrangement the previous administration put in place for bad for america and for the world. i and brian are working to get iran to behave like a normal nation. stop launching missiles and stop attacking our embassies. president trump made it clear. we would love iran to join the community of nations. >> laura: you and john kerry have gone back and forth on

this. former secretary of state, barack obama met your times with iranian leadership. you criticized saying that's not appropriate. he responded by saying there is nothing unusual our unseemly about former diplomats meeting with former counter parts. secretary of state kissinger did it. >> secretary kerry can't get off the stage. when i am the former secretary i will get off. it's one thing to meet with the counter parts, it's another thing to do what secretary john kerry and their whole gang has done to seek to undermine what president trump is trying to achieve. it's okay to talk with them, but you have to be working for american foreign policy. they are not. they are working for the foreign
