2:00 p.m. eastern. have a terrific weekend. big news week. up ahead. in the meantime, tucker is next. >> tucker: good evening. welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." this is the tenth day in a row that we have devoted a large portion of the show to brett kavanaugh's supreme court nomination. we have done that because the story matters. not simply because the supreme court itself matters. the way kavanaugh has been treated by the democrats in the senate as well as by the media and the left wing interest groups who do their bidding in concert gets the most basic questions about what kind of country we want to live in. does every american deserve due process? are the accused presumed innocent rather than guilty? does fairness still matter in this country? well, to all of those we
5:01 pm
answer yes. the left argues no. to them acquiring power justifying anything. that is the real debate here. we thought you should know that. after the developments and there are many. after yesterday's hearing, the debate must be drawn to a close. it's hard to imagine watching what kavanaugh said to the senate yesterday without feel progress found sympathy. this is a deeply sincere man who believes his family has been destroyed by false and unsupported allegations. many wept as they watch him speak. democrats remained unmoved. some argue that kavanaugh's anguish was itself evidence that he is a monster. as if only a sex criminal would recoil at being called a sex criminal. >> a calendar and a diary. very organized guy to put it mildly. >> tucker: well, that was
5:02 pm
the wrong sound bite but you get the point. barbara boxer explained today his anger on stage made her think he was capable of violence. would you be angry if they said it about you? no matter what they say, the democrats don't mean any of this personally. they don't hate kavanaugh or his family. they don't seek to destroy either one. they are just irrelevant. democrats just want to be in control. so yesterday they immediately began stalling for time and they did that demanding a seventh f.b.i. investigation into kavanaugh's life. the point is run out the clock on his nomination. they continued the tactic today at two hearings, especially in the afternoon when the senate judiciary committee reconvened. watch this. >> i cannot sit here. i cannot participate in what i know history will look back as a dark moment again in the way we look at the anita hill and clarence thomas hearing. i can't participate again relegate ourselves to what i believe is a dark, dark element of the society. to that, sir, i will leave.
5:03 pm
>> tucker: that was new jersey senator cory booker, a man so oily he qualifies as an alternative fuel. almost nobody who knows booker takes him seriously. but today he found an ally, surprisingly among republicans. that was jeff flake of arizona. flake declared he would be voting for kavanaugh's nomination. then he was confronted by a mob of protesters, the youth wing of the democratic party. watch. >> you are allowing someone who is unwilling to take responsibility for his own actions. to sit in the highest court of the country. and to have the role of repairing the harm that has been done in this country to many people. no thank you. what do you think? you have the power. >> ma'am, do you want -- >> i want to talk to him. don't talk to me. i understand. but tell me i'm standing right here in front of you. what do you have -- do you think he is telling the truth? >> tucker: wow! that man looks afraid and
5:04 pm
ashamed. you don't often see senators look like that. this kind of thing has been happening a lot in washington. i happened to ted cruz when he found himself surrounded by people at dinner and left the restaurant. jeff flake crumbled and announced he would not approve the nomination without additional f.b.i. investigation. democrats cheered his change of heart. i applaud senator jeff flake's decision to rise above the partisan circus on display in the entire process. joe manchin. but in washington when they congratulate you on leaving the partisan circus, chances are you are now the ring master of the for -- master of the circus. jeff flake is that. what does it mean? it doesn't mean a lot. the f.b.i. does not want the case. there is nothing to investigate here and they said that definitively already. weeks ago dianne feinstein sent them chrstine blasey ford's original letter and that was their response. this is not a federal criminal investigation. it cannot be. no federal crime has been
5:05 pm
alleged. only police the maryland can conduct an investigation into this. they are not because strangely chrstine blasey ford never filed charges against brett kavanaugh in the jurisdiction where she said it took place. instead the f.b.i. will conduct what is called a supplemental investigation. agents will interview only those directly connected to chrstine blasey ford's original allegation. in this case, that would amount to chrstine blasey ford and brett kavanaugh, of course, along with the three people ford says were present when she was attacked in 182. that would be judge, p.j. smith and leyland kaiser. the problem is that all five of the people have already given sworn testimony. you are aware of what they have said. four categorically denied under oath ford's version of the story. if they deviate from the previous testimony, they could face criminal penalties. so what can we possibly learn from having the f.b.i. interview them? keep in mind that the f.b.i. makes no judgments in the investigation. it's not assessing credibility
5:06 pm
or render any conclusion. it just does interviews and summarizes them for lawmakers. the f.b.i. no matter what they tell you is not a tie-breaker in this or any other investigation. it's an investigative agency that will provide the senate with information that senators already have. so brett kavanaugh is going to get interviewed again. you probably have to get a prostate exam to be more thoroughly vetted than kavanaugh has been in the next 20 years. they may try that, too. if you are looking for truth this is a pointless exercise. you wouldn't consider it. but the truth is not what anyone is looking for here as you may have figured out. democrats are hoping more baseless allegations will emerge in the delay, during which the f.b.i. is investigating things that have long been investigated. perhaps another reptilian porn lawyer will come forward with another client with fantasies of gang rape or maybe ritual satanic abuse. who knows what it will be? when the charges emerge, the
5:07 pm
democrats will demand new public hearings on every one of them. democracy hangs in the balance, they will tell us. meaning the access to power hangs in the balance. it's not a complicated formula. everyone in washington knows exactly what is going on here. except for maybe a poor jeff flake. people who know flake say he may believe democrats are acting in good faith. maybe he is auditioning for a new employer. he is leaving the senate early next year. either way you have to be an idiot to think caving to this demand will induce the democrats to call off the smear campaign against brett kavanaugh and his family. they won't. they will accelerate. why wouldn't they? it's working. but there is a cost. especially for republicans. at this point kavanaugh isn't just a supreme court nominee. he is a folk hero to many people. inspiration to millions. people who spent the last two years being browbeaten and bullied by the moral inforeyours were buoyed --
5:08 pm
inferiors were buoyed by what he said yesterday. they are unfairly maligned because they in the way of other people gaining power and have been commanded to shut up and obey. kavanaugh stood up for the people yesterday and he raised a middle finger to the tormenters and they love him for it. kavanaugh is far more popular with the republican voters tonight than any single republican senator. hi is more popular than the senate as a whole. kavanaugh wouldn't describe it this way but he has a constituency, a powerful one and they will long remember if republicans defend him in the moment of need. shannon bream has followed this saga closer than anyone else has and she joins us tonight. what do you think will happen? >> shannon: we have a delay over the weekend because mitch mcconnell will not start with the senator vote and get it moving. we have a delay of the investigation. i have folks who think, i think you talk to people, too in the f.b.i. i think they can get it done more quickly than friday. we have a finite universe of
5:09 pm
people who could be interviewed. unless we talk about throwing in the ramirez and the swetnick allegations. >> tucker: if anyone considering doing that? >> shannon: i think ramirez is being considered but swetnick is not falling under what the white house or the senate judiciary committee is calling credible so it wouldn't fall in this investigation. they can do it quickly. i have a friend close to an f.b.i. agent and says they are all praying and that they don't get it. nobody wants this to fall in their lap so they have to handle the investigation. they feel it's political. >> tucker: as a factual matter. take opinion out of this, have you heard anybody describe what we might learn from interviewing the five people at the center of the ford allegations who have given the sworn testimony? >> shannon: the 302s. this is where an agent interviews people. they make a summary of it and they will hand it to the committee and say here are the interviews. unless they don't match exactly what the sworn testimony they have given they are in trouble. everyone is giving this under the penalty of felony. if they say the same things they have said and mark judge and p.j. smith and brett
5:10 pm
kavanaugh have all said they will cooperate, they sent out the messages through themselves or their lawyers saying okay. great. we want to talk to you. let's get this done. i don't know if we find out anything new. if we did it's a bombshell but it's like having someone repeat and be stenographer, to the testimony that you give and heard under oath. and the other statements we have. >> tucker: tiny fact set from day one. not that many facts. >> shannon: or people involved. >> tucker: thank you very much. >> shannon: good to be here. >> tucker: lou dobbs joins us tonight. lou, it strikes me that brett kavanaugh is far more popular than any sitting republican senator right now. far more popular with the voters that matter to republicans. what risks do they one playing with this tactic do you think? >> i think that jeff flake runs no risk because as you pointed out he is a lame duck. he found out that he couldn't possibly win a primary in his home state. and withdrew. and then upon learning that he
5:11 pm
learned he is singular unpopular period. what are the risks here? the risks are that the republican party is unable to move his confirmation through. and that would be a devastating loss to the nation. tucker i truly believe what is going on here, what we are witnessing is not only corrosive political corruption of the left, and these radical dems who sit on particularly the judiciary committee. but we are watching a tenet of what has become democratic party's most important manifesto. to deny american exceptionallism. the man on that screen is extraordinarily exceptional. he is a man who took us through his life over the course of the hearing. this man stands for all that is good and great about this country. his commitment to his studies, to improving himself, his service to the community.
5:12 pm
my god, how could you ask for anyone better to sit on the supreme court? as a matter of simple objective analysis. and to watch the dems foam at the mouth and blood drip from their fangs as they rip this man and his family apart. it is obscene what they have done. it's obscene that any republican would in any way enable and facilitate in the gruesome mission. >> tucker: if republicans can't get brett kavanaugh on the court do they have a hope of getting any right of center nominee on the supreme court ever again? >> i don't think so. i really don't. i think that is a great question because it is fundamental to what we are watching. if you cannot as a nation turn to your very finest people, those who have worked hard and
5:13 pm
brought themselves through the life, to personify american exceptionalism, then we are truly lost. this man's family and children, my heart goes out to them. it is not tearing a nation apart. it's destroying a nation. it's not simply division. this is not about redistribution or a socialistic view. this is about rewarding effort and excellence. and applauding a man's success. to have a child, talking about praying for the woman who is bringing charges against her father. to encourage them to pray. to have a career that has, there is not -- as the president said, president trump said there is not a

three groups had this letter that was asked to be anonymous. dianne feinstein and her staff. congresswoman from california and her staff. and the lawyers. somebody betrayed her trust. if you can't figure out why, you shouldn't driving. >> tucker: chrstine blasey ford had wanted to remain anonymous. she didn't want to testify yesterday and didn't want anyone to know her name. she only went public with the allegations after somebody leaked them to the press. just a few weeks ago. only a few people knew about the letter that she had
5:19 pm
written to congressman and that it made its way to senator dianne feinstein's office. from one of the offices her identity made it to reporters. who did that? and why aren't democrats interested in finding out the identity of the person who did that? since supposedly they care so deeply about christine ford. mccarthy was ans saytant u.s. attorney, and judge was a district attorney in washington and they join us. why wouldn't be so hard to find out how the information got from one of two congressional offices to the "washington post"? >> tucker, if we assume it had to be one of the two offices then it should be a small world of people. i think the problem we have, factually, is that the first press outlet who got it, the intercept now says that feinstein, senator feinstein was not the source. that doesn't mean that the other california congressperson could not be
5:20 pm
the source or it could have come from the lawyers or what happens an acquaintance or friend of dr. ford. but while it is a small amount of people who are in the circle of the possible leaker, and if you made an aggressive investigation you might be able to get some leads quickly. certainly, if kavanaugh can be investigated seven times you think it might be worth a once over. >> tucker: you would think that. >> it's interesting. >> tucker: if you cared about christine ford wouldn't you care who betrayed her and overturned her life? >> of course you would. but this is not what it is about for the democrats. this is not about the ethics or morality or rightness. this is about power. the democrats leaked it, the lawyers leaked it, maybe she leaked it or someone in her family leaked. we know the republicans didn't leak it because they didn't have the letter. someone wanted to use her and make parrot of a process to flay away at judge kavanaugh.
5:21 pm
this is part of the disgusting display that the democrats created. they are trying to make it look like something that is serious. in fact, it's awful. it is demeaning the country and demeaning the senate. i don't know what affect it is having on dr. ford or whatever her name is. the bottom line is that this is an attempt to destroy a good man and his family. and the democrats are succeeding. they got their delay on the vote on the state floor. they may ultimately win. >> tucker: you have been watching this and what do you make of all of this? what have you learned? >> that it is phenomenal that the democrats could not more clearly signal that what this is all about is the delay, delay, delay. no matter what they are talking about. whether it's the victims or the survivors or somebody privacy or the need for an f.b.i. investigation. it's all about delay.
5:22 pm
and yet the republicans seem to think if we just give them a little bit more delay we can bring this thing to closure. for the life of me i can't wrap my brain around that. >> tucker: i can't either. have you seen anything this cynical? you have been here a long time. >> no. >> i came here in 1967. 51 years ago. i have never seen anything like this. to watch senator coon do an umptious description how wonderful it was to work with senator flake and all we want is a little more time. the goofy, gisting performance by the democrats. the senate used to be a beautiful place. now it's a very, very ugly place and the american people are being harmed by this. this is awful. democrats don't care one wit. they just care about power. >> tucker: true. thank you. i hope you get a weekend away from it. i'm going to try to.
