make america great rally, crowd of 11,000 in topeka, kansas, the president talked about justice kavanagh. it's true the confirmation was not the only subject broached by the president, but he was most certainly front and center. >> i stand before you today on the heels of a tremendous big jerry for our nation, our people and our beloved constitution. reporter: meanwhile, the president also talked about this on twitter. you may have read this and what he said last night really seemed to echo what he said and social media. he said you don't hand matches to an arsonist. you don't give power to an angry left-wing mob. democrats have become too extreme and too dangerous to govern. republicans believe in the rule of law, not the rule of the mob. vote republican. vatican should likely be the theme for the next 30 days as we get to the midterms. i should point this out, the

general? >> there a democrat and republican candidate. running as a statesman in america right now, what do you run on? you run on facts, results, blue or skies and stronger winds stronger wind at our back than we ever had. trying to divide this is a good idea because you can get people inserted. leland: is not how the republican got elected is by dividing and inspiring on republican base? really? >> the candidate i saw was a candidate who talked to the forgotten people of america. that is not partisan. that's bringing all americans in. so many democrats out there today they see through the messaging that takes place because you can divide you can conquer. the president has brought us together in an economic robust economy that brings all of us together. that's not partisan. when america succeeds that includes all of us. leland: congressman can we

uptick in gop interest in the midterms compared to where we were in september. many political strategist here at fox news tell us this is all due to the confirmation process, the brutal confirmation process we've seen the last couple weeks. you are close to some of these campaigns. you get all the internal polling that we in the general public haven't seen yet. what is it telling you? >> much enthusiasm amongst republican voters. that is why smart campaigns are going to capitalize on early voting and making sure that republican voters who are enthusiastic right now are casting their votes. this could be the first election where early voting favors republicans. >> i hate to interrupt you. just so our viewers and i know it's started already yours or is this week. >> in some states early voting has started. it is starting over the next couple weeks and then states like washington, oregon and

colorado were all the votes are done by mail. people will be getting their ballots. ballots are in the mail now to voters to be casting their vote. let's also keep in mind the impact media coverage is going to have on keeping the republican base fired up. we didn't have the media talking a partisan supreme court until a perceived conservative majority came on board. media coverage this morning is on now about how we have a partisan supreme court. >> i want to make sure i bring a dog here. you heard what my colleague gary tenney reported that lindsey graham and started talking about democrats running on a platform of impeaching judge kavanagh. now is that the platform that includes impeaching the president, impeach brett kavanaugh. what else is on the agenda. tell us. >> before you call it the democratic platform i would suggest this is a minority of a

small group of democrats who are talking about impeachment issues. as a democrat myself i'd say a couple things. first, i would not talk about impeaching the president nor would i certainly talk about impeaching justice kavanagh. i would say there has been a modest upswing in republican enthusiasm in a number of the senate races the house remains today pretty firmly in democratic hands for the election. gillian: i'm asking you what is on the agenda? >> let me be very clear. impeachment is not. it's health care, immigration, job training and it is basically helping those americans who've been left out. it is not impeachment in any shape, manner or form. it's issues. gillian: want to ask you come i spent the last few days of protesters over supreme court

and on the senate side of capitol hill, liberals, conservatives, republicans, democrats, men, women talk about how they feel confirmation of justice kavanagh sends the wrong message to survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault. they said they feel alienated and his confirmation tells survivors it's not worth speaking out because no one will believe you anyway. what is the message for those folks depending on whose numbers you believe it's not an insignificant group of people. 100 to 800,000 americans sexually abused every year. what's the message? >> everyone has the right to have their case to be heard and the than should come forward and we should continue funding programs that provide support to victims. we need to have tough law against those who do sexual assault. but to doug's point, he makes a very compelling case for a moderate democratic party.

the challenge is it is funded by tom stiers and george soros who are funding progressive groups to go out and get in republican spaces and scream and yell at them. leland: they're spending on both sides. i got it, here you come i agree with you. i was out there with the crowds and plenty of people on the other side of the issue came out whose troops were funded were an organized group t-shirts. we can make the argument. time for one last yes or no question for each of you. become extraordinarily intimate look at judge kavanagh during the hearing. we saw nominees who threw the highest court in the land cried, be very emotional. i don't know whether this is the new normal. is it a good thing or bad thing going forward that we've had this intimate look. >> at the complete politicization of the supreme court process, taking away judicial temperament and substituting ideology. the answer is an assertive and

month's devastating earthquake and tsunami. we are told that number could continue to rise as officials are working with the missing in several villages that are as you could say impacted. crucial aid just now making its way to the more remote areas hit by the quake a week after the september 28th disaster. gillian: forecasters keeping a close eye on tropical storm michael is that heads over caribbean and potentially towards the gulf coast. adam klotz. >> hey there, gillian. this morning and intensifying this time. we've got the update now. tropical storm just at the yucatán peninsula will be running over the gulf of mexico. a lot of warm water there. the chance to intensify possibly, borderline but possibly hurricane by the time it makes landfall in the middle of next week. here's what we look at as far as tropical models go. pretty good agreement as you see

it working over the gulf of mexico over the course of the rest of the weekend into the middle of the upcoming week. by the time to get up along the gulf coast a little bit of indecision where this would hit, but you are talking about a timeframe of around wednesday. you notice other runs over the gulf waters currently the tropical storm will intensify. winds right now 40 miles an hour will be climbing up the rent over warm water. by monday you're getting out into the gulf of mexico, the wind in the 60-mile an hour range, possibly 80 miles an hour is to get off the gulf coast. that's enough to make this a category one storm. 80-mile an hour wind. currently the florida gulf coast butter cone of uncertainty does stretch over towards mississippi, alabama and, not as far of rest orland but plenty of time to move around a little bit in the next couple days as it does strengthening. another thing depending on the speed makes a big difference of how much rain. potential rainfall days and days

leland: the middle of the night in asia, secretary of state mike pompeo met with north korean leader kim jong un. he's honestly without a real pain they had a very productive morning. très joining us from our mideast bureau with the latest that the israelis watching the north koreans. hi, trey. >> good afternoon, leland. we are learning this afternoon that mike pompeo north korea's kim jong un have agreed to arrange a second meeting between president trump in the north korean leader. that according to president mooned jae-in in south korea and on sunday secretary pompeo visited for the fourth time to meet with kim jong un. a two-hour meeting in a 90 minute meeting to discuss a plan for denuclearization of the korean peninsula. following the meeting, secretary straight toggle to seoul, south korea where he met with president moon jae-in.

he and kim jong un had a good productive conversation on called the talks another step forward. it's important to look at this in the context moving forward for pompeo who travels to china on monday. a tight trade were with united states but a key player in talks with north korea. leland: tray, thank you dear gillian. transferring joined now by the heritage foundation senior research fellow for northeast asia, bruce klinger. previously served as deputy division chief for korea. tanks for joining me. we've seen all these photos that secretary pompeo shaking hands with kim jong un, filing, laughing while they are walking down the highway. all the feel-good photos and create. where is this all going? where does it all add up to? >> we don't know how much the progress the secretary may but expect not much. they made progress that was once upon a very long path ahead and a member of his delegation said they are in for a long haul

ahead. the last time pompeii was in pyongyang they claim progress in north korea as he was wheeled up let out a three-page creed criticizing him and all the administration's proposals. it's a long road ahead. tranter but at least they have told you which is all the touting of progress when real north korea experts, nuclear experts say when it comes to stuff happening on the ground in singapore, there is no progress. we are trying to put meat on the bare bones of the singapore summit communiqué. what i've heard is no progress, no success, no breakthroughs behind the scenes. we are trying to get north korea to delineate what steps it's going to do to the nuclear race. they always use very vague terms, which means very different things for the north in the united case. >> another national security

source tommy this week that they are not in favor of the president meeting with kim for a second comment. it sounds like a lot of folks in the community don't think it's a great idea. why is president trump so gung ho on it? >> he sees himself as the chief negotiator, that he can do things others can't. the singapore summit was not a success. a number of mistakes made there. so yeah, the administration is trying to hold off the president summit. they are trying to get actual work done a hundred times getting progress of north korea to define the steps that they need to take what are the timeline, the linkages. that is nuts and bolts diplomacy which you can't do a later level. gillian: i can imagine president trump wants to forge ahead with all the effort that another summit with kim entails unless he really thinks there is something significant, substantive to get out of it.

if you kind of put -- put on the president for a second and talk to you from his dave, can you guess at what his, at his point of view here, what is he thinking? >> he would see the singapore summit as a success. he did not give away things he didn't give away in return for. the end of korean war declaration which everyone in the administration is again. it is a feel good gesture that won't achieve any object is. we will get anything specifically in the north in return for it and it could set us on a slippery slope if you sign a peace declaration how can you not saying a peace treaty. why do you have so many troops there? how can you still have trading with the enemy sanctions. security has dangerous ramifications and a further decrease the resolve to maintain pressure in north korea.
