so what does this mean come november, joining me to debate that commentary writer philip and democratic political analyst wendy, thank you for coming coming up this morning. poll, nbc wall street journal poll, president's approval rating at 47%, 49% disapprove. look at that the polls in november month ago, 44% approved, 52 disapprove. the president moving in the right direction, wendy, a lot of people surprised by this considering the president's style and some of the comments that he makes. it might mean that what the president does and the action it is administration are more important than the words, what do you think? >> well, his approval numbers are moving but we also have to realize that democrats don't hold 9-point lead and we see that when it comes to registered voters we see that voters are 50% more likely to want democrats to lead congress as opposed to 41% who wants republicans, yes, he is ahead in
2:50 am
the polls so to speak and he's above his average but that doesn't mean that democrats are waiting in the polls at all because we are leading amongst key demographics, so i have a feeling we are going to go ahead and take this. rob: okay. let's look at some of those numbers as you just said, more from nbc and wall street journal on who should control congress, 50% say the democrats should run the show, 41% say republicans and it gets analyzed across, likely voters, registered voters, philip, over to you, it's highly unlikely that the republicans can keep both houses here in november. what do you think the house race is going to look like? >> i think that we need to expect a blue wave but we don't need to automatically assume that it's going to be a blue tsunami especially if you look at the nbc and the wall street journal poll shows the president's approval ratings are
2:51 am
at highest right now and i think the reason why is that those voters regular i will say that their number one concern is the economy and right now the economy is doing incredibly well, it is booming and what we are going to see is when president trump is running on his record my thought is that that economic increase is going to be able to bowy republicans that were dead for dead. the blue wave may be coming but not as bad as republicans fear. rob: the president having big rally in texas and former president in nevada, they have the dueling rallies today, wendy, over to you, is the former president the best man to really rally up the troops here for the midterms? >> absolutely. the dems love obama, obama is a rock star in the party so to speak, when it comes to approval ratings, obama had approval rating of 48% and trump has approval rating of 39%, if you look at the numbers here, democrats love when obama comes
2:52 am
out, he has the ability to rally the troops so to speak and energize his base and right now it's where turning the corner with only 11 days it's all hands on deck and we need everybody to be able to come and energize it. rob: worth noting that our current president's approval rating is higher than obama. who is running the show with democratic party, they say joe joe biden has best shot? i can't believe joe biden is the number one guy that has got a chance? >> when you look at what happens with obama and trump hitting campaign trail you see that both of the guys are campaigners in chief, they were born for this sort of thing and excellent at what they do. obama is going to be absolute recking ball for rosen in nevada and we will see trump is going to pound in some of the nails in the coffin of beto o'rourke down in texas, the difference,
2:53 am
though, is that president obama, he's running on presidential nostalgia where you will have president trump who is going to be pointing to his record over the last 2 years and the inscainl -- inescapable fact life has gotten better for average voter. rob: let's move to migrant caravan, the president, wendy, has said that the democrats are funding this movement toward the united states but i would say that this is probably one of the biggest gift it is republicans could ask for, this thing is going to come to a head right as the midterms come around and i just can't imagine there are many people that think that we should have an open southern border for this type of a movement to just move right in. what do you think about this and how it'll impact midterms? >> well, i will push back a little bit. what we know that 56% of americans do not like when the
2:54 am
child separation -- family separation was happening, so depends on what the narrative is being spun here. if he goes ahead and he says individuals do not deserve and this would not look good for -- rob: this isn't family separation. >> no, it does not. depends on what the narrative is. trump has to be careful how he's attacking this and the words he's using because this is really not about immigration and this is a humanitarian crisis and needs to look at it in that matter. rob: is this humanitarian crisis or people demanding access to a country they don't live in. if the people we wanted to claim asylum they didn't want to live in méxico. >> the narrative is one that plays to president trump's advantage and to your point a second ago there are a lot of migrants who actually are working with the mexican government right now to claim asylum, asylum doesn't allow you to pick whichever country you want to go to and decide as soon as you arrive that you need to
2:55 am
declare asylum, you actually are required to go to first port of entry where you can get in. my thought generally with the type of caravans is that they underscore the argument that president trump has been making, he wants more border security, he wants the wall on the southern border, the awkward fact here is that democrats aren't necessarily the only one to blame. the republicans who trump is out campaigning for right now they can drol the house and the senate and they haven't been able to deliver on that front. so it's going to be a tricky situation for him to spin this, again, this is to the president's favor. rob: certainly will be, guys, thank you very much for your time, we have to go. we will be right back. >> thank you. >> thank you. yourself and your sister-in-law's tennis partner's chatty coworker's youngest daughter's entire judo class. one shot can make a world of difference. walgreens' specially trained pharmacists, know exactly
