it's >> shepard: days after their gunman slaughtered seven people it inside a synagogue including senior citizens and two disabled brothers, president trump is heading to pittsburgh even though some jewish leaders and local officials have asked him to please stay away. the president's visit comes on the same day that the tree of life synagogue began burying the victims. president trump telling fox news he tent mike plans to meet with police officers and survivors at the hospital. the rabbi at tree of life who survived the shooting and tried to save others so the president is always welcome. but the mayor of pittsburgh asked president trump to hold off on visiting while we bury the dead. >> i do believe that it would be best to put the attention on the families this week. if he were to visit, choose a different time to be able to do it. our focus as a city will be on

the families and the outreach they need this week and the support they need to get through it. >> shepard: a group of religious leaders wrote a letter to president trump saying he was not welcome in the city until he fully denounced white nationalism. the white house has pushed back insisting the president has denounced racism, hatred and bigotry in all forms on a number of occasions. we have team fox coverage. matt send it near one of today's funerals, and first, garrett tenney outside of the tree of life synagogue. >> this is one that typically spark strong emotions on either end of the spectrum and we seen that here today, including just this past hour when groups came by with signs supporting president trump. but to be honest, a lot of folks i've spoken to have been so emotionally drained over the last few days that the president's visit isn't rising

up to be that high on the radar. they are more focused on grieving and processing this attack, and for us, including a group of rabbis with the progressive bend the arc organization, they say president's rhetoric is why they don't want him here today. >> at this time, our morning and are grieving, he is not the person that we are looking to to unify. he has not been that president for us since he entered office >> that rhetoric is also a reason why some family members of the victims don't want the president coming. the nephew of daniel stein told the "pittsburgh post-gazette" that his family declined to meet with president when he suggested armed guards could have prevented it. again, we have had several people coming by with signs supporting the president and saying they are grateful he's taking the time to visit and express condolences on behalf of the entire nation.

>> shepard: what do we know about specifics of today's visi visit? >> the president hasn't released a whole lot of details, and he will be visiting with some of those who are injured in saturday's attack including a couple of the police officers, and two police officers remain hospitalized, the president will likely be visiting them. we are also told he will likely be meeting with local jewish leaders to his expressed his support and condolences on behalf of the entire nation. in the president's daughter and son-in-law will be joining the president on this trip. >> as i mentioned, funerals for some of the victim started today. family and friends gathering for services for four out of the 11 who died, including those two brothers. matt finn is also in pittsburgh's afternoon. >> we are in the main street corridor of the squirrel hill neighborhood, what's been described as the center on this

community and just steps away from us one of the funerals is underway right now for a 66-year-old doctor. that doctor is beloved by this community, described as one friend as a man who had only begun to think about his retirement at 66 years old and probably would have lived for decades after that. and at the funerals for two brothers also underway not far from here, the caskets were just brought out of the congregation not long ago. a single funeral home here in squirrel hill is handling nine out of the 11 funeral scandal, i can schedule between now and friday. -- funerals schedule between now and friday. >> it still hurts. whenever one of your own is taken. >> i feel overwhelmed. it's a tragedy that struck in our little peaceful corner of the world. it's hard to put into words what it means to this community.

>> the air here in squirrel hill is heavy, and it's a real scene as there are so many funerals happening around us. all day long, mourners have been walking up and down the sidewalks, people trying to keep it together and stay strong. >> shepard: may their memories be a blessing. what more have you learned about the suspect? >> as it turns out, jewish doctors and nurses have been treating robert bowers and the hospital. one jewish doctor said he is treating bowers as a federal man because he had or has a mom somewhere. people who knew him said he didn't put his name on his mailbox, paid cash for rent and did not exhibit signs of someone capable of this massacre. right now, bowers is in federal custody without bond and he is scheduled to appear next in court on thursday. >> shepard: far beyond

pennsylvania's pennsylvania, boarders are coming together to remember the victims. sarasota, florida, about 40 miles south of tampa, people let candles for each of the 11 who died in the attack. several thousand people got together including rabbis, pastors who led the interfaith vigil. in overland park, kansas, people wrote hundreds of messages to send it to the tree of life synagogue and an interfaith ceremony there as well in that suburb of missouri. >> grant us peace, most precious gift, oh internal source of peace. >> that was a vigil in toronto. 20 of her relatives dough into thousands of others in the city square. her funeral is set for tomorrow in pittsburgh. ahead, president trump says he wants to change the constitution and he says he doesn't need help from congress to do it.

documentary series out this weekend. >> president trump: it was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. number one, you don't need that. number two, -- you could definitely do it with an act of congress, but now they are saying you can do it with an executive order. how ridiculous. the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby and the baby is essentially a citizen of the united states for 85 years with all of those benefits. it's ridiculous and it has to end. >> not the only country in the world, there are 30 of them including canada next door. further, constitutional scholars say that in the event the president tries this move there would be an immediate injunction in his order would not take a effect. the president obviously cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order.

again, the constitution, specifically the 14th amendment. senator lindsey graham has long wanted to change this, but it would require two-thirds in the senate and ratification by three fourths of the states legislatures and that is not under consideration. the chief white white house correspondent is on the north long. at >> that caravan departed for the united states and the white house is trying to come up with some ideas and we will run over a couple. the first is to try to get rid of this idea of birthright citizenship that is there in the 14th amendment. this is something that came up during the 2016 election campaign. president trump referred to people that come across the united states border from another country and have what are called anchor babies, he said. jeb bush picked up that same language and got a lot of criticism for it. the 14th amendment to the constitution as you mentioned is what governs this idea of

birthright citizenship. on the 14th amendment reads "all persons born or naturalized in the united states and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the united states." the key phrase is, "subject to the jurisdiction of." and this morning, mike pence said there may be some room in that phrase to more narrowly defined what it means by executive order. listen here. >> supreme court of the united states has never ruled on whether or not the language of the 14th amendment, subject to the jurisdiction thereof applies specifically to people who are in the country illegally. and i think the president is looking at executive action. i know that congress has looked at legislative action to reconsider that. >> some republicans are praising the president for raising the idea. again he pointed out lindsey graham. and he said this morning, this policy is a magnet for illegal

immigration out of the mainstream of the developed world and needs to come to an end. graham said that he will introduce legislation to end birthright citizenship. nancy pelosi the house minority leader simply criticized the president for trying to change the subject in the last week in the midterm elections. in a statement she said, the president does not have the power to erase parts of the constitution but he and congress have spent two years trying to erase restrictions for those with pre-existing conditions. the other idea, is the idea of adjusting the rules regarding where a person coming across the border can claim asylum. if you are apprehended by the border patrol, claim asylum. the president and white house are looking at an executive

order or some sort of temporary regulatory action that would stipulate you can only claim asylum at a port of entry. and you would be held in detention, and would be taken back to your home country. more than a thousand u.s. troops are set to arrive at the southern border, and they deployed more than 5200 soldiers there and that is more than are deployed in iraq and are deployed against the fight and isis. this border move is part of the campaign to paint the immigrants traveling in southern mexico as a threat to our nation. it gives a show of force getting today against the invading mass that is a thousand miles away, traveling on foot with women and

children, and some seeking the asylum joe manchin from their home countries. this move is little more than logistic support and as mentions a show because the military cannot enforce immigration laws in any way at all. the military can't detain foreign migrants. no member of the military can even question them. they can't issue speeding tickets or stop anybody from smoking a joint on the street or enforce any domestic law. so aside from being in news footage and defense videos, what can they do? the nationals correspondent jennifer griffin is live at the pentagon. >> u.s. officials tell me very clearly that these active-duty troops will not be building camps for migrants, that's not part of their assignment. the arm army engineers being sent will build temporary camps for the 2400 border patrol agents being mobilized. the u.s. air force will provide airlift for 400 additional border patrol as well.

for some perspective, the 5200 troops deploying to the border is double the number currently on the ground in syria battling isis. dhs requested that dod personnel to be "in direct contact with migrants and protesters," but that would be illegal under the 1878 act. the deployment order for the u.s. troops going to the southern border expires on the 15th. the caravan that remains hundreds of miles away and southern mexico and may not reach the u.s. border before then. senior defense officials won't say why active-duty troops are being used now when national guard has been used in the past. the bottom line is they needed to deploy fast to send a message of deterrence. >> shepard: they needed to deploy fast why? >> to send a message of deterrence. >> in addition to the troops

virginia. or i should say west virginia. but we are unsure by what means. there are several reports that someone killed the 89-year-old gangster, but prison officials are saying only that they found him unresponsive this morning in the present. he was serving a life sentence for a number of crimes including a dozen murders, extortion and illegal possession of machine guns, and much more. at one point the south boston gangster was one of the most wanted fugitives and all the land, and as the story goes he lived under a fake identity in santa monica for more than a decade before the feds got a tip and brought him back to massachusetts for justice. trace gallagher with the rest of the story as we have it. >> bulger was found eight unresponsive this morning at 8:20 a.m., at less than 18 hours after he arrived at hazleton prison in west virginia. neither the prison or department

of justice will confirm that he was killed but something happened because the doj press release says "no staff or other inmates were injured, and at no time was the public in danger." prison officials say they tried and failed to revive bulger. the mob boss had been serving his life sentence in florida and was recently moved to a transfer facility in oklahoma city before being moved yesterday to west virginia. the bureau of prisons also won't say why he was moved. we know he did have health problems but hazleton is not a medical center prison so that doesn't jive. bulger would be the third hazleton inmate in the past five months to be killed. >> shepard: he was once an fbi informant, right? >> indeed, back in the 90s, "whitey" bulger use to rat out his gang's main rival and a corrupt fbi agent tipped off bulls bulger that he was about to be arrested and he fled, spent 16

years on the lamb and became the most wanted fugitive. and despite notoriety including the film "the departed" which was about his life, james "whitey" bulger hidden in plain sight living with his girlfriend and a seaside condo here in santa monica. when the feds are rated the condo, they found fake ids, numerous weapons and $800,000 in cash. his girlfriend, catherine greg, was convicted of lessening comic lesser crimes. in fact he said to get out of prison in 2,020. and bulger got his nickname "whitey" because of his light blonde hair. he hated the nickname but clearly it stuck. >> shepard: the man who sent pipe bombs to nearly a dozen people had a hit list with dozens of names on it.

they are calling it a hit list, and whether that's what it is is another matter but it's definitely a list. law enforcement sources tell the post that more bombs could still be making their way through the postal system. the most recent one turned up yesterday. it was again addressed to cnn but this time its headquarters in atlanta. that suspicious packages the 15th intercepted so far. the suspect now faces a trial in new york city where the feds file charges against him. phil keating is live in florida where the cops caught him. what else did investigators find in the suspects band? >> not only chock-full of evidence on the outside but inside the van, investigators are finding the treasure trove of evidence they are hoping to find. the fbi has had cesar sayoc's

van since friday when they towed it to get everything out of it that they could. inside the van is plastered with the protest trump stickers and hillary clinton's face in cross hairs. investigators reportedly found this list of more than 100 elected officials and others come up with their addresses. it's possible more packages are still in the system but not yet discovered. 56-year-old cesar sayoc had a short initial appearance in court yesterday and the magistrate set another hearing for this friday to discuss bond and his extradition to new york. also reportedly found inside that van, a printer, soldering equipment and the stamps very similar to the stamps that were on all the other 15 envelopes. >> shepard: filmmaker michael

moore released some footage of him at a rally? >> he and his crew have attended numerous trump rallies for one of his films and with this case breaking over the past week, they started going through all their uncut outtakes. sure enough they found a cesar sayoc and there he was, front row taunting the media. this is footage shot for the film fair heart 119 at a trump 2020 rally, and there is cesar sayoc in front of a group of supporters heckling the media and their cameras and holding up a sign as the crowd chance "tell the truth." after friday's hearing in downtown miami u.s. courthouse, we expect u.s. marshals to relatively quickly transfer cesar sayoc up to new york city where as you mentioned, he will be tried out ultimately. it's been one of the special counsel looking into russian meddling and possible collusion now focusing on a long time

>> shepard: there is a word that the special counsel investigating russian meddling and possible collision is looking into a longtime trump advisor, specifically has possible connection to the founder of wikileaks and what he might have known about hillary clinton's hacked emails. that's according to "the wall street journal." the journals parent company and fox news parent company share ownership. the advisor is none other than roger stone, known in the republican party as the dirty trickster and the prince of darkness. in august of 2016, stone set at least two conference calls that wikileaks was going to release more information that would affect the election. in an email to "the wall street journal," stone said he did not have any insider knowledge and he did not have any direct contact with the

wikileaks leader. he said he just predicted that the group would release more information, which of course, it did. chief correspondent catherine herridge is live in washington. >> in a lengthy mailing to supporters, roger stone is making his appeal for defense in the wake of being under investigation by robert mueller and a possible target over his contact with wikileaks. the solicitation reads in part, this week we saw an unprecedented torrents of illegal leaks from robert mueller's office, all baseless and designed to smear. the facts remain the same, i never received anything including allegedly hacked emails, and never passed any such materials on to my friend of 40 years, donald trump. investigators are reportedly focused on at least two conference calls had by roger stone in 2016 where he indicated that the head would contact by

the 2016 election. there had been emails posted in june and july, and more than 20,000 pages of clinton emails were posted in october and november. soon the intelligence committee confirmed the emails were stolen by a spear phishing attack by the hiking group known as a "fancy bear" which is affiliated with russian intelligence services. the key was whether they knew in advance. the >> president trump's personl attorney confirmed to fox earlier today that the legal team has begun drafting answers to written questions from special counsel robert mueller, and they could be submitted sometime after next year's elections. but rudy giuliani said the draft answers are not yet complete and there's not enough time for them to review before. >> the cowritten questions to --

there are some written answers coming possibly in the coming months that would probably fall short of any prosecutor would like from someone they want to chat with but that may be as good as mr. mueller gets at this point. >> shepard: if you are the prosecutor though and you have all these witnesses and all this evidence, why bother? if you want answer questions, then why bother? >> that's a fair point, the best-case scenario is getting the president to answer not only your first volley of questions with the follow-up, because if someone is not telling the truth, they can be one or two layers of lies and it's hard to get four or five layers deep. so if they are not going to do that, i don't want to say this is the next best thing but it's at least something that mr. mueller can say to get him on -- get him some information. >> if you have four documents

republicans are fighting hard to keep several governors mansions across the country including the one in georgia with the microgrid voters could elect the first black woman governor in all of the nation. jonathan is live with the news. >> mr. obama plans to hold a rally friday evening in atlanta and this is where democrat stacy abrams is hoping to motivate young people and minorities to vote in the election. meanwhile president trump plans to stump for brian kemp at a sunday rally in macon. he is targeting his base of conservatives and rural areas. >> you have to look at rural georgia. two years ago donald trump blocked the metro area but he won at rural georgia. >> the polls are showing this race a statistical dead heat, and that is why he's receiving lots of presidential attention.

brian kemp is essentially the top elections official in georgia. he oversees statewide elections and his office has been enforcing elections to reduce voter fraud. his opponent say these efforts disproportionately affect minorities. >> i think voter suppression is a challenge and i think the problem is we are not getting straight answers from the person responsible for guarding the public trust. >> this whole thing is a charade it to really take away from her radical agenda of a radical government takeover with health care and her wanting to raise taxes. >> unlike previous georgia democrats, she's not wanting to run as a moderate, she's embracing that liberal title. >> shepard: the governor's race in georgia is one of several tight matchups that we are watching. a.b. stoddard is with us,

stopped. the mayor of tallahassee is ahead in the polls and continues to be ahead of all of them. he's going to count on new energized voters on the left. lapsed voters, newly registered voters, african-american turnout. if he actually ends up winning this race, it will carry senator bill nelson over the line. the incumbent who was behind now governor rick scott in the senate race right over the finishing line. so gillam would become a huge democratic superstar if he wins. there's an investigation into him and his close associates and no one has been charged but it certainly an ethical cloud that he is running under santos and president trump are trying to market. you will be hearing more this week. he has already called gillam a thief. >> he said it is his opinion that andrew gillum is a thief. he's not been charged with as a
