our leaders to come together, roll up their leaves and get something done for families across america, it is time to make washington work. a lot of news at the very end. finally, i would add not total lose democrats but they won statewide election for the commissioner of agriculture. heather: it means you're heading home. griff: i'm heading home for a quick turnaround and i may be in new york for turkey, that's just a teaser, heather. heather: another big story we have been following for you, 80 people are dead, more than 1200 still missing in california wild fires, candle light vigil to honor 77 victims of the campfire and pope francis sending special

prayer to everyone impacted by the fires burning around the state, heavy rain in this week's forecast could bring some relief but there's a new risk of flooding, mud slides and already devastated areas, so we will keep an eye on it. whomever killed an american teacher in méxico will pay, a mexican governor vowing revenging in the sinaloa cartel drug trafficker who murdered patrick paxton andrew, just recovered after he disappeared on hiking trip last month, murdered, what evidence officials have implicating imple cartel. king salman will give first address since killing of jamal khashoggi, unclear if he will talk about the jamal khashoggi, you'll remember that. president trump says that he will not listen to recording of brutal killing.
1:05 am
>> it's a suffering tape, it's a terrible tape, i have been fully briefed on it. there's no reason for me to hear it. i said to the people i said, you really shouldn't, i know exactly, i know everything that went on in the tape. heather: cia concluded that he ordered jamal khashoggi's dead something the kingdom denies. democrat adam schiff publicly denouncing the president's choice yesterday calling it unconstitutional, garrett tenney reports on escalating dispute. >> president trump said he didn't know about mat whitaker's past criticism of mueller investigation before taking as attorney general and afterwards when he did find out the president said it didn't have any affect on his decision, he also told chris wallace on fox news sunday he doesn't think pat criticisms of the special counsel would have any impact on
1:06 am
the investigation. >> well, he says there's no collusion -- >> chris, i tell you what. >> he's right, there's no collusion, he happens to be right, he said it, if he said there is collusion i'm supposed to be taking somebody there is because i wouldn't take him for two reasons but the number one is he would have been wrong. >> democrats aren't buying that explanation, though, on abc congressman adam schiff says his party plans to challenge appointment since he wasn't approved by the senate and said if whitaker tries to do anything to curb the mule -- mueller congress will impose it. >> he auditioned for the part by going on tv and saying he could have hobble the investigation and ethically he should have nothing to do with the investigation. >> president trump said his legal team is still going written answers to questions
1:07 am
from special counsel but expects that those will be submitted sometime this next week, in washington i'm garrett tenney, fox news. heather: democrats said to control house january, many asking will the president change tone if he's investigated. missouri senator roy blunt says not a chance. >> i think the american people got exactly the person they elected as president of the united states. i think that's going to continue. i think what democrats in the house are going to find surprising and probably a lot of people in the media will find surprising is while the other people who have been president would hate the idea of investigations, i'm sure the president would rather have a republican house but i think he will vigorously engage in a public way in these investigations if democrats try to pursue them but if they investigate they're going to have participant talking about how those -- those
1:08 am
investigations are being conducted in the white house and that participant is going to be the president of the united states. heather: in the meantime nancy pelosi picks up more support ahead of next week's vote for house speaker. pennsylvania congresswoman elect or colorado congressman elect joe say that they want pelosi to take her old job back. >> right now she's the only person who is running so it would appear that's where my vote would go and right now i believe that she's an effective person in that job. >> i intend to support her, i think that it's important that we have steady leadership right now. i think we are all working together really in the same direction trying to save democracy to be frank. heather: last week 17 democrats signed letter vowing not to vote for pelosi. week 11 in the nfl, chicago bears taking up a huge division
1:09 am
win on sunday night football. >> rolling that way, throws a little low and it is anthony miller. heather: mitch and the bears defense hold off the minnesota vikings 25-25 and scary sight in washington, quarterback alex smith off the field with badly broken leg. he's done for the year. redskins lose 23-21 to houston. carolina panthers fall short after cam newton missing 2-point conversion, lots of folks blaming blaming the coach for that one. and then there's this, president trump and first lady melania will receive the the national christmas tree at the white house today. the nearly 20-foot tall chosen from a farm in north carolina, schedule today arrive at the white house around 1:00 o'clock eastern time but will not be lit
1:10 am
up until next wednesday, remember we told you about the tree, the farmer had given up on it, it was basically what you call the runt of the litter and now it's going to be at the white house. well, the time now is about 9 minutes after the top of the hour and high-speed horror, shocking video showing the moment a race car driver loses control, goes airborne at 170 miles per hour, how that teenage driver survived the horrific drive. north korea, saudi arabia and turkey making major moves as the world watches. >> we are supporting pakistan, i ended, they don't do a damn thing for us. chris: toughest decision you've had to make as president? heather: our next guest says the president is right to be skeptical about pakistan, the highs and louse about foreign policy up next.
1:14 am
were put on heavy sanctions, massive sanctions on a large group of people in saudi arabia but at the same time we do have an ally and i want to stick with an ally that in many ways have been very good. pakistan $1.3 billion which we don't give them anyway i ended up because they don't do anything for us, a damn thing for us. i think north korea was very tough. president obama sat in those two chairs and said that's the biggest problem by far the country has, we had a real decision as to which way to go in north korea and certainly at least so far i'm very happy with the way we went. heather: well, president trump sounding on his foreign policy successes and challenges in an exclusive interview with fox news' chris wallace here to respond douglas birky, mitchell institute for air space tower studies, thank you so much for
1:15 am
joining us this morning, we appreciate it. >> no, thanks so much for having me, appreciate it. heather: so let's begin with what we heard the president talk about just there and let's begin with north korea and your thoughts on that? >> yeah, north korea is a very difficult situation. obviously it is crucial to give diplomacy a chance so the president opening up dialogue is very important step, however n this case it's also important to remember that north korea is an expert on buying time to bleed down diplomatic pressures, they have played this move before. the main check that we really have to keep in play here is military power, that's the one thing that they will respond to. if you look at our investment in air power with f-35, b-2, and later b-21 crucial to project survival credible power, it's not just about north korea directly, it's about how china reads us and allies in the region, japan, south korea.
1:16 am
heather: let's talk about pakistan in the sound we just played we mentioned mentioned te giving pakistan 1.3 billion a year. >> yeah, for too many years pakistan has been playing both sides of the fence. if you look at their actions obviously with the taliban throughout broader afghanistan they really have been on both sides here and it's not just about what's going on in that region, look at their relationship with china, there are huge ally with major competitor of ours, you can't have it both ways, you can't have funds and cut deals with enemies, i think the president is right to draw clarity here and we need to look where we sit and draw strategies accordingly. heather: what about saudi arabia, he say that is we put heavy sanctions on saudi arabia, massive sanctions in a large group of people but at the same time we do have an ally that we want to stick with.
1:17 am
>> now, this is a really difficult needle to thread, first and foremost the jamal khashoggi killing is something that's absolutely horrific event and international norms matter because when you need those rules to defend you, you have to ensure they have broken them down, we need to make sure those are strong, however, exact same time we need to ensure that we do not permanently harm the relationship with saudi arabia. the jams jam was unfortunate, that's one individual but the issues in play that saudi arabia control affect millions because their friendship of the united states is crucial in the region as well as the globe at large and so really threading the needle is going to be tough piece of work and you need to do both, you cannot let the killing go, you to preserve the alliance. heather: finally on iran the president claims that iran has been far weakened because of
1:18 am
what he did with iran deal. >> yeah, people often time bleed down focus on the end way too fast, the reality is you have decades of determined progress toward nuclear weapons, the president's decisions on the sanctions certainly have had positive effect in that regard in turning up the heat on them and i think we need to let that continue to play out. heather: thank you so much for joining us, we got through a lot there. >> no, thank you. heather: have a good day, time now 18 minutes after the top of the hour, he's a retired navy seal who lost his eye overseas and crenshaw. >> i've literally been attacked. i would choose the words carefully. heather: carley shimkus with the reaction pouring in this morning.

1:23 am
heather: she says the election was tainted an democracy failed in the state. republican who lost primary by just one vote will not get recount he asked for, jimmy on the left lost to fellow republican ron campbell in virginia house 24 primary, local media outlet decides that committee decided not to hold the recount. well, he's a retired navy seal who lost his eye fighting overseas and congressman elect has wake-up call for those in the media who consider themselves victims of the president's words. >> i would argue that our president is disruptive in those press conferences and i would argue -- >> how is that an attack on the press, though? >> because it's literally- >> i've literally been attacked too i would choose those words carefully.
1:24 am
heather: carley shimkus siriusxm 115 with reaction on that. >> good morning, texas, dan crenshaw reminding his fellow cbs panelist what it really means to be attacked, let's see if we get to some reaction on social media, we have it. some folks who caught the quick comment are now weighing in, one twitter user says at some point we need to get away from the idea of attacking ideas when your position opposes legislators, it should become opportunity for debate, words really do matter, another person on facebook jeff says congressman crenshaw has a clear definition of the word attack than most and michael on twitter also weighing in saying fully support his ideas, culture changes, one behavior at a time, many others including his fellow panelists on cbs were arguing that the president does, in fact, attack the media through his words when he uses phrases like enemy of the people and
1:25 am
fake news. heather: yeah, i don't think i would be one to argue with him about what a real attack is. let talk about the white house asking people to vote on annual turkey pardon. >> that's right, presidential pardon is taking place this week, i believe it's happening tomorrow and this year's birds from the great state of south dakota, they are currently at hotel in washington, d.c. and the white house is giving the people the power to choose which bird gets pardon, all you have to do is sign up to vote via a link on the white house twitter page, there they are right there in the car heading to washington, d.c. many folks on social media like ella and jackie, they want the president to pardon both birds and last year the president did just that. he pardoned a bird name wishbone and drumstick, we will see if
1:26 am
he's feeling very kind. heather: i thought they were both always pardon. >> both, of course, live, they don't end up in any place. heather: thank you for clarifies, steve crow what is he up to? carley: fans of the office, they're not going to like this news. he batted down rumors that the office is going to be coming back, he said it ain't going to happen, watch. >> will you ever reboot the office? >> , no actually i don't think so, it was a great experience i love all of those people but i don't think it's the best idea, maybe we should just leave it alone. carley: news coming as crushing blow to some people who says he's legitimately heartbroken, people want it to come back since it ended in 2013.
1:27 am
he said no, he will leave it in the past and move on with his career. heather: i don't know, they can always change their mind. carley: everything gets a reboot these days. heather: fox news for you, tensions escalating in tijuana, take a look at video of thousands of migrants arriving in the caravan and the people who live there, the brand-new warning from president trump up next. and democrats first target when they take over the house, your taxes, professor peter morici with what it can mean for you up next.
1:30 am
1:31 am
president trump now responding as tensions grow fierce in méxico. todd piro with the message to illegals, good morning, todd. >> heated weekend in rhetoric end in reality. hundreds of residents in the border city of tijuana protesting arrival of central american migrants who they worry will linger in their city for months as they try to claim asylum in the u.s. >> the door is closed. they have people, they have bad people. so you have to support to -- close the door. >> continue to try to use american asylum laws to get into the country, something president
1:32 am
trump says is not going to happen on his watch, he tweets, catch and release is obsolete term, it is now catch and detain, illegal immigrants trying to come into the u.s. often proudly flying the flag of theirnation -- their nation, dems must approve border security and wall now with the president adding that he is not opposed to legal immigration. >> we have millions of people online that get into our country legally and those people have preference, they have to have preference, they've been waiting for a long time. >> the mayor of tijuana letting displeasure with the migrants be known calling it invasion and city is ill prepared to handle it and could last six months, right now close to 6,000 u.s. troops deploy today southern border spread out across california, arizona and texas, heather. heather: todd piro, thank you,
1:33 am
todd. >> no problem. heather: sentencing day for the man that admits to killing pregnant wife and two little girls, chris watts could spend the rest of his life behind bars after taking plea deal to avoid the death penalty in colorado, he was sentenced in august days after going on tv to beg for the safe return of his family claiming that they went missing at the bodies of shanan celest were found days later at oil field where he worked. a special envoy to u.s. is hopeful that officials will strike peace deal with the taliban on april. ongoing negotiations on ending 17-year war with afghanistan, the terrorist group is demanding sanctions we leaf, release of prisoners and recognition of a political office in qatar. the white house could be in for a staff shake-up in fox news interview, president trump says up to 5 positions are on the
1:34 am
line including that of chief of staff john kelly. >> look, we get along well, there are certain things i love that he does and there are certain things that i don't like that he does, there are a couple of things where it's just not his strength, it's not his fault, it's not his strength but john at some point will want to move on, john will move on. heather: well, the president reportedly also considered removing homeland secretary kirstjen nielsen, he says she's not as tough on border issues as he wants her to be. trio of champions to win first nascar title. >> turn number 4 to claim his first ever cup series championship, legato that wins. heather: winning final race of the season in miami speedway after barely making playoffs, he beat out last year's champ, bush and kevin harvick, now we will
1:35 am
switch gears back again, democrats first order business targeting your tax cuts, not all democrats are on board, congressman jerry connolly airing party uncertainty, quote, do we really wanting to down that road, other party groups saying, quote, this would be a staggeringly bad idea. here to break down why democrats want to raise taxes is peter morici, former chief economist of u.s. international trade commission, thank you so much for joining us as always. we appreciate it. >> good morning. heather: so good idea, bad idea, why would democrats want to do this? >> it's a bad idea to raise taxes, donald trump has raised american economic growth to 3% and that's remarkable given the record of barack obama and done it by cutting taxes and deregulation. i guess as democrats have always been are antiprogress and just looking for cash to buy some more votes.
1:36 am
heather: how would they do this to begin with, though, democrats are hope to go undo the republican rule that would make it difficult for those -- for the house to raise anyone's taxes, how would they do this? >> the republicans set a rule that you needed 60% of the votes to raise taxes which is a high hurried until the house. nancy would like to reduce the hurdle back to a simple majority, make it easy for her to raise taxes in a moment of crisis perhaps during budget negotiations or with something really needs to get done, you know how democrats behave, let no crisis go unused or unexploited. heather: so what would the likely tax increases be at this point? >> i think it's more likely that we'd get some increased taxes on wealthier americans that always politically popular with democrats in order to do finance
1:37 am
infrastructure, they might do deal with president trump on that, pressure on the senate to do something, they might be able to get that through n. the senate if it's not done through reconciliation vote which only get one per year they need 60 votes to get it done, so even that's going to be a tough sell. heather: so beyond that, what about the economic recovery is it already in danger? >> yes, the economic recovery is being threatened by slower growth abroad and by the federal reserve being too aggressive about raising interest rates, you to remember we have a lawyer running the federal reserve and basically doing it off of a sheet, clip notes and he's very methodically raising rates. donald trump may have been off in criticizing the fed but if i had been president barack obama would have lunch with ben bernanke once a month, i would
1:38 am
have lunches and i would put it between the eyes, 3% is the limit, you know, fed policymakers say 3% is the limit, your last statement where you forecasted interest rates you have to go to 3 and a half percent. why do you simply -- what's the deal here? you can be pretty blunt in public meeting, but on this one his bluntness is correct. the federal reserve is pushing interest rates too far. heather: what moves can the president could make to keep the economic recovery going that we have? >> i think that an infrastructure package would be useful and it depends on how you finance it. across the board income tax increase, tax increase on wealthy americans or however, i know this is not popular but i think we need to look at two things with regard to
1:39 am
infrastructure, what we are paying to do something, i mean, go past your typical road construction site, you still have 6 guys standing around to 1 working, that's union rules. heather: yeah. >> the other thing, though, we haven't raised the gas tax in forever. i think that people that use the roads ought to pay for the roads but when they pay for roads they have to get what they pay for. also, you know, i'm a biker, i don't think ought to be using the guest tax to finance bike paths and they do. the gas tax ought to be for the roads, the user fees at the airports ought to be for airports but all of the corruption and all of the deals that democrats have made to voters rolls using infrastructure projects can't be the way out of this mess. heather: all right, peter morici, thank you so much for us to join us. giving it to us straight.

instead of republicans drooling over every minute of footage of slow mode, they actually step up enough to make the argument they want to make, well, michael bloomberg is setting a record with a massive donation with alma mater, the former new york city mayor and possibly 2020 contender giving $1.8 billion to john hopkins university, largest ever donation to a u.s. university or college, the money will allow the private university in baltimore to offer financial aid plans without student loans. well, spending less at the pump might mean spending more on presents, tracee carrasco from sister network fox business here with more on why you may see more gifts under the tree this year, that would be good news, tracee, good morning. tracee: good morning, gas prices, oil prices, those have been dropping so economists say
1:45 am
that could translate into people spending more money this holiday season, now, analysts are estimating that the savings across the country could be 2 to $4 billion, that translates to about 20 to $40 per household of savings this time, of course, the big question is how long will these low oil and gas prices last, but for now this is good news for us as we head into this busy shopping holiday season. heather: all right, tracee, let's talk about shoppers, they can actually get started putting those savings to use, right? tracee: that's right, as of midnight kohl's has launched black friday holiday shopping online so time to get the black day holiday shopping strategy down but in addition to black friday sales on kohl's website you can take an extra 15% now through the 23rd, so lots of good deals on clothes, electronics, home goods, so really starting to see some of
1:46 am
the sales popping up a lot earlier than in the past, this is, of course, to people shopping on thanksgiving going into the stores. heather: the thing is if earlier sales means better sales that's a good thing? tracee: yes, that's the translation that people are hoping for. heather: thank you so much, tracee. 15 minutes until the top of the hour. this country has to win, that message from the president on putting america first. >> a lot of times you can't practice tone because you have people coming at you so hard that if you don't fight back you are not going to win. heather: how did his tone impact the midterms and what can we expect in 2020, we debate it up next (brand vo) snap and sort your expenses with quickbooks

>> something that's important to me, a lot of time you can't practice tone because you have people coming hard and if you don't fight back in a somewhat vigorous way you will not win, this country has to win. heather: president trump taking aim at the left saying that he has to fight back against critics for the sake of the country, so how will the president's tone impact the race for the white house in 2020, here now to debate is former spokesperson for the democratic policy and communications committee andrea and republican strategists rick -- chris turner. chris, people come at you so hard that if you don't fight back in somewhat rigorous way you are not going to win, what
1:51 am
about his tone? >> look, the in 2016 the american people voted for not politician to serve in the white house, they voted for someone to change the tone, the spin in washington and they wanted someone to come into this town and disrupt the place and that's exactly what the president has done. he was sent here by the american people to rescue the economy and to create jobs and he's done exactly that. so, you know, if you look at it from the american people's perspective, done his job, doesn't sound typical politician and guess what, he isn't one. heather: what do you think in terms of what happened with the midterm andrea? >> absolutely, heather, we saw democrats win over 40 seats in midterm elections so we've seen a wave like we haven't seen since watergate, democrats, independents, coming to the polls and rejecting republican policies and the president's
1:52 am
tone, it was a harsher views, we saw places that we haven't won in quite some time, oklahoma, nevada, seats across the country and that's because folks don't like the president's rhetoric, his policies or his tone. heather: chris, you would argue differently in terms of what happened in the senate? >> oh, yeah, absolutely, i'd argue differently on both sides. if you look at bill clinton's midterm, he lost 52 seats, if you look at barack obama's midterm he lost 60 seats, from what i would say, andrea are in the game, in the campaigns and i just came out of the field myself from florida in particular and we saw when the president would show up and do these rallies, we would see turnout spike and you see rick scott just be able to accept the mantle as the new u.s. senator from florida, that is directly attributable to the president's work there and we saw house members win tough races across the country. i would argue that his involvement probably saved 20
1:53 am
seats and certainly as you know, we broke all historic trends and gained seats in the senate. for us he was a machine and willingness to put himself out is unprecedented, again, not politician, most political figures would have backed off, hidden the white house and let things play out, the president took a strong stance both in sticking with justice kavanaugh and doing great things for the economy and then actually putting it throughout and going campaigning. i think that the only thing we needed more are minutes on campaign trail. heather: andrea, moving to 2020, how do you think the tone will impact that? >> absolutely, president trump's tone has impacted elections, historic turnout that we have seen has flipped seats in places like oklahoma and kansas and we will see trump's tone affect the elections more, folks don't want to see children separated from parents at southern border or out of control gun violence
1:54 am
especially in places of worship, folks are angry and came to vote and we will see in 2022. heather: i'm sorry, chris, final word? >> yeah, look as far as i'm concerned, if you look at approval ratings on the economy and the president's performance on the economy, you know, smart money is on him winning reelection on him 2020, the most interesting is can democrats hold the house, and i think they've got a tough decision to make, speaker decision on nancy pelosi yes or no and decision on whether they want to investigate, investigate and impeach, impeach, if they make that call, they will get -- heather: we will be right back. today is the day you're going to get motivated...
