trainer. griff: saturday after thanksgiving pete is back. pete: i do work on the weekends saturday and sunday. really difficult workweek saturday and sunday. griff: holiday lights and trees out back fox square and pete back in the chair. pete: great to have you here. rachel: all have our family with us this weekend in new york. pete: lots of kids and lots of festivities is the way it should be. there is a lot of kids, you might say, but a lot of people in a certain city looking for guidance what might happen next. griff: big news is still the caravan and the situation on the border. the president clearly making that a priority but we're hearing also what's changed in this is the mayor of tijuana, juan manuel gaston and what changed and surprise sod many in this story he, as so many of the small towns and cities

throughout mexico when i was with them for 13 days, trying to deal with this large grouch four or 5,000 migrants moving across. here is a tweet from the mayor quote, excuse me. he says we don't have sufficient and necessary infrastructure to adequately attend to these people to give them a decent space. now, let me try and put that in context in all of the small towns we went all the way across. this is such large group. population was only 1,000 and 1500. this is larger than the whole city. they don't have the resources. this group has gotten to the border in tijuana. that's why the mayor is not only putting the quote out. he is asking for the united nations human rights commission to give them support. give them money he says ultimately mayor gasleum i will not spend tijuana citizens tax dollars for this crisis that's arrived at my border. and, of course, president

trump also weighing in for that tweeting this yesterday. calling for bipartisan support on the border saying republicans and democrats must come together finally with the major border security package which will include funding for the wall after 40 years of talking, it's finally time for action. fix the border, for once and for all, now. will they fix it, rachel? rachel: it's interesting. on december 7th there is a partial spending bill that's going to be coming up. the president, i think, is bringing a lookout of attention to it. he hasn't -- and this is not a political stunt. this is what he ran on. what's interesting and what will be fascinating to see if the media picks up on this. they did not report on the protest in tijuana and of these places where the caravan has come where people from those mexican towns, mexican citizens are going hey, we don't like this. our crime is increasing. our resources are getting strained. a lot of same things we say on this side of the border. the media has not been reporting it this is now getting to a point or a

threshold where they're going to have to start reporting this. pete: they really are good on the tijuana mayor for saying this. it's the type of things angela merkel wouldn't say for a long time. rachel: right. pete: she covered it up, the refugee crisis in her own country. i can't handle this. i'm calling on the mayor of mexico. what will our congress ever do if anything there is a loft frustration, rachel, to your point. republicans have had control for two years. rachel: right. pete: this president is serious about this issue. will they spend the time in this lame duck session to actually try address it. rachel: some of the media has covered it. just knot a lot. certainly it goes against the narrative that has been out there. so it's been very muted. back to your question about the funding. look, i think he sending out warning signals. i could shut down the government commodities 7th. the question will be who will get the blame.

because there will be republicans by the way, especially on the senate side who might not want to sign that bill to include border wall funding. so, will the president get the blame or will all this attention on the border and seeing it happening on the mexican side and the american side make people go, you know what? this is a president who is finally trying to do something that everybody else said they were going to do and never did. griff: great point. media has reported on it but not to the extent it is put in pure context we had a year ago the caravan came. it proved a problem we have got. the president has stayed on top of finding that solution. now it has come to a head and it is unavoidable any way you come from this perspective. you are going to have to deal with this. pete: it's a real problem. deroy murdock was on this channel yesterday had this to say about a potential for

and they won't do it. when democrats take charge we wanted a wall. you had your chance. why didn't do you anything? this is an important point to point out to republicans. rachel: important point that deroy brings up about immigrants. often immigrants and the children of immigrants who are most upset about this because they understand that doing it the right way is by the way why a lot of them left their own country. they want rules and law and order. pete: that's a great point. griff: i think you guys have lost your mind. you are completely out of sync with the great murphy brown who has returned to television. she is back. she plays her same role and she has a morning show instead of the investigative show she had in the 1980 and 1990s. this is hollywood clearly taking on. pete: this is on thanksgiving evening this is murphy brown. watch. >> we received a call from a neighbor here about a taco

like for parents to be separated from their child when i watched it happen to friends of mine. watching what i did yesterday might have given me a real reasonable to lose faith in my country. i refuse to believe that we have become so jaded that we feel nothing when we see these human beings experiencing such heartache. there has to be a way to fix this. we can do better. we will do better. pete: you are with your family. it's thanksgiving and you turn that on and you sigh basically law and order, anti-law enforcement advertisement on cbs this idea that these ice officers are doing their jobs are the criminals. are the terrible americans for enforcing the law. it is the manifestation of our current debate played out in hollywood. griff: i was disappointed

dan quayle wasn't in the role. rachel: this is hollywood's narrative on this. if you don't feel something for -- and the other side doesn't have compassion for those trying to come. it's absolutely false. we all understand why they want to come across the border. we all understand why they want to take the risk. the question is do we as a country want to encourage that because it creates a lot of problems. like the ones that you are seeing in tijuana like the ones seeing on this side of the border. that's the narrative. you must not have a heart if you're for the wall, if you are for law and order, if you are for securing the border, you must be a heartless person. griff: you just hate brown people. rachel: there is racist component. griff: in fairness to hollywood, they are often the forum that challenges our social norms. in this case the episode takes two leaves of absence which is one the president has changed his family separation policy.

pete: welcome back after very short break. president trump urging senate to come together to pass a major prison reform bill tweeting this and i quote: really good criminal justice reform has a true shot at major bipartisan support. mitch mcconnell and have a real chance to do something so badly needed in our country. already past with a big vote in the house would be a major victory for all. can democrats and republicans actually get this done? we're going to ask niger innis. thanks for being here this morning. >> thanks, pete. pete: it has passed the house. it has not passed the senate. will it pass and what are the impediments at this point. >> the impediments are you have a group of conservatives within the republican caucus led by, i would say, the variety. pete: tom cotton, ted cruz? >> tom cotton is one of them as well. and they have serious objections to the senate

bill. but pragmatically speaking it's a little too little. too much aclu of the coalition pushing for criminal justice reform. pragmatically speaking, look, i'm a law and order republican, too. but, pragmatically speaking, the house version that passed is a lot more conservative, it's a lot more to their liking. the senate bill is a little -- you know, fears a little bit more to the left. pete: yep. >> but the practicality is if they don't pass criminal justice reform now and have some type of compromise bill something in between the house version and the senate bill, then you're going to have a situation where, instead of this conservative criminal justice reform bill that was passed by the house, you're now going to have to negotiate with nancy pelosi, the likes of maxine waters, you know, all expired and having fires lit to their butt by folk like

alexandria ocasio-cortez. pete: you are saying you have your best chance in conference where the two bills meet with a more conservative house bill. >> that's right. pete: let's talk about the senate bill. the first step act here is what it would do eliminate so-called stacking regulation. judges can reduce mandatory minimum for nonviolent drug offenders. change the three strikes you're out penalty from life in prison to 25 years. what is it about the senate bill that is not to their liking? >> well, cotton and mike lee, senator mike lee out of utah had a very interesting -- very vigorous exchange. you can call it a twitter battle if you will that national review covered. and tom cotton's concerns are that, you know, when they label folk nonviolent offenders, it includes individuals, according to cotton, that actually committed acts of violence

against police officers, including using violent weapons. there are a variety of concerns. what i say to senator cotton, to senator cruz, that have, you know, these are good men, principled men that have legitimate concerns. let mitch mcconnell bring it to the floor. let's have vigorous debate about it if cotton sees something wrong with the senate version, ask for some amendments. put some amendments on there but now is the time to get this done because god for bid the senate has to negotiate with the house. right now you have got a situation where if the senate passes something, you can have a reasonably conservative criminal justice reform bill. if the far left wing house comes in january, then you are talking about taking. pete: the far left wants open borders their mind set is totally different. >> exactly. pete: this comes down to mitch mcconnell. is he going to bring this

forward? >> i hope so. you know, you have the most extraordinary coalition of conservatives and liberals. you have got liberal groups like the aclu that are in favor of it. but you also have the fraternal order of police. the largest police union in the country. you've got christian conservative, extraordinary coalition. christian conservatives that are promoting criminal justice reform along with small government libertarians that are promoting this. so, you bipartisan multi-ideological since the civil rights movement of the 1960's. with that kind of pressure and the christian conservative led by ralph read are doing an active campaign particularly going after cotton and senator cruz to try to persuade them to at least push mitch mcconnell to get it on the floor. pete: of course something barack obama not able to do in his time in office as well. niger, thanks very much for

he joins us now. welcome, dan. >> hi, rachel, hi griff, how are you doing? griff: we're good. we're better than you, don. you've suffered what is such a big story right now and had you to spend thanksgiving without your son and i know that must have been tremendously difficult. but, as this debate rages across the country, what would you like to say? what would you like the country to know both about this debate we're having and your son, drew? >> >> well, you know, the most important thing is that we are a welcoming country and people should be able to come here. they have to come here legally. they have to be vetted. they can't be released into the country until all of that happens because most of them particularly when they come in on asylum, they disappear. some may show up for their hearings when they get their deportation order they don't leave. right now there is almost a quarter of a million illegal aliens in federal prisons

and state and local prisons and jails. and they have committed probably close to 2 million crimes. so, when you hear people talking about oh, you know, they commit less crimes than native born a, that's not true but, b, i really don't care because none of the crimes that they have committed should have happened. my son should be alive he was in the prime of his life. second year in law school and had everything to live for. and, you know, when i hear these advocates talking about oh, separating kids from their parents. well, it's temporary. we just had our eighth thanksgiving without my son, his eighth anniversary was november 16th. so, i don't want to hear anybody talking about they are temporarily separated. i have no tears for them whatsoever. rachel: so a lot of democrats and especially the media as well on many other networks you are saying that

the border caravan doesn't really pose a threat. that this is just political theater. what do you say to that? >> well, look, you know, there is a lot of arguments as to how many people are there. we know there are thousands and we know there are thousands more coming. and the question i would ask is how many that are there are you willing to accept in the country that are criminals? and the answer should be zero or at least make every attempt to screen them to say they are not a threat is absurd and ironically, you know, one of the reasons they haven't just marched across is because there is triple fencing down there. when you talk about a wall, who know what is they are going to do. at least we are prepared for them and see will see what happens. rachel: those going through the asylum process they say about 20% actually have

passed whatever the criteria is for seeking asylum, correct? >> yeah. what most people don't realize is about 80% of those people will be given credible fear, which would allow them to come into the country and because of the, you know, catch and release, they would be released into the -- you know, into the interior of the country. 53% of that group will never even file for asylum. more than half will just disappear. of the remainder most of them won't get asylum they will never leave. griff: thank you very much for joining us and it's important we also remember your son drew. such a great young man with so much promise. and we thank you for taking time to come on and share your story with us. rachel: thank you, don. >> thank you. thank you both. i appreciate it. rachel: of course.

ready to give up sovereignty but in an orderly procedure, of course. either you are one of those who believe they can solve everything on their own and only have to think about themselves that is nationalism in its purest form. this is not patriotism. griff, i will give it to both of you griff and rachel. the ordered end of sovereignty sounds like the perfect globalist bureaucratic. give up your sovereignty but do it in an orderly way. rachel: this is why she is so unpopular in her own country. it reminded me of something that president donald trump said. he has lots of famous lines as y'all know. there is one that he said that really grand me as an american. i'm the president of pittsburgh, not paris. it really incapsulated the way most americans feel. they really want an american president. they are not interested in a global president like president obama, i think, attempted to be.

first. you should put your country first. the citizens of those countries have heard our president say that i have talked to those people in many of those countries yeah, i wish my president or my prime minister whoever is in charge would put us first. griff: step back just a bit and realize he is a businessman that got into politics because he felt a calling to lead the nation and so, you know, while the left has associated a really racist, you know, tie to the nationalism title some trade deals started to fight back with china and fight back with people in all of these pacs, he said i'm going to do what's best for me. you know what? those countries are going to do the best thing for them. why wouldn't they? they would be stupid not to. more out of an economic position to give us economic strengthening. if you think of your own citizens as your own children, you want to work as hard as you can to give them the best future they have gout. that's the comparison is he making with regard to american citizens in a

will give you money for x if you vote for me. now she gives out chairmanships. she is creating leadership positions to make people feel important. and she is trying to do that to help content with this influx now of democratic representatives that are far more left than she is. and i think this is eventually going to come back to bite her. can you only promise so much without eventually having to pay out on those promises. griff: we just had up on the wall there the brave 15 that are left now that were willing to challenge her. also you had congresswoman me a fudge who said i will challenge her. we need a new voice. if you look at the leadership of the democratic party, the 3 million people from pelosi, hoyer, to clyburn, there are 78, 79, 78. why isn't there a call with these 15 that are still bravely remaining, perhaps, more will come forward, we will find out. why isn't there is a call for young leadership in an old democrat party? >> well, i think there is a call, just no one so far has

been willing to stand up and challenge nancy pelosi. 15 or 10 people may go higher or lower. who want to see change. but they don't actually have that person who is going to carry the banner for them to try and directly challenge nancy pelosi. and she does -- she has a lot of experience in this game. she has been doing this for a long time i think some of these people weren't expecting the all hone approach to her. you can't expect to challenge someone without a challenger. what does it send to young democrat voters who went out and elected alexandria ocasio-cortez here in new york and elsewhere? what does it say if nancy pelosi becomes yet again speaker? >> well, i think it says to them, of course, that while they may be ready for change, washington and the people they just put in power clearly are not ready for change. and i imagine that that must be very frustrating for them. but i think that you

juan gastelum telling a radio group there that quote we don't have sufficient and necessary infrastructure to adequately attend to these people to give them a decent space. i saw that firsthand in scores of towns all the way from the guatemala border through mexico city, now it is on the border. the mayor also telling that radio station that, quote: i am not going to spend the money of tijuana citizens for this group. rachel: it's interesting because so many people in the media and on the left, democrats have said that all this hoopla or concern about the caravan is just a political stunt. but here we have a mayor of tijuana, a mexican citizen, sort of echoing the concerns of his citizens, of his town saying, listen, this is a problem. we have increased crime. we have a strain on our resources. and that's kind of what a lot of mayors on our side of the border have been trying to tell washington, d.c. for a while. pete: great point.

all the media outlets in this town can talk about it in a detached manner. griff, you have been there. this mayor is there. he is seeing all these almost 5,000 folks coalescing at the border. we are not sure what they will do as far as how they will cross where they will cross, but it highlights the fact that this remains a real problem for mexico and for the united states of america. that's why our president had a tweet yesterday talking about the need for an actual solution at the border. he tweeted. this if we can scroll the prompter up just a bit. republicans and democrats must come together finally with a major border security package, which will include funding for the wall, after 40 years of talk, it's finally time for action. fix the border once and for all, now. 40 years hearkens back to reagan who had his own amnesty deal that did not include real border security. here we are revisiting this problem. it's been heightened by the focus and attention on it the law still hasn't solved sstled it. all of these migrants in limbo status, can they enter in will they enter in will they be detained here or in

mexico? will it be catch and hold or catch and release. what will they do on the border? they have more tools at their disposal now than they had before. also clouded in question marks until congress says no, we are going to fix this by building the wall and all the other side that come with it. griff: raise such a good point it's a political talking point. abstract idea until the caravan actually shows up physically on your doorstep and you have to deal with it tijuana mayor also is aware of, you know, a few months ago when we had the first caravan and that was only a few hundred people out of a little over 1,000 actually made it. it was an issue for them even in the hundreds because they had to set up a metering system to slowly let people come to claim asylum at the port of entry. now you are talking about thousands and you have the politics of it that has absolutely escalated. much larger problem. the president is trying to reach out in a bipartisan manner to say let's find a

solution because if we don't we have a problem. rachel: we will have more caravan we have already seen that. pete: partisan manner control the house and senate and force a government shut down and border wall show down and border folks who think it's worth it see what happens. rachel: partial spending bill is going to have to be voted on by december 7th. if there is going to be funding for the wall, it will have to be by that point. the president is saying. pete: you know what's in it, it's a wall. griff: this is a complex problem. the president saying one of the solutions is obviously to rescind asylum claims for those that illegally cross on the rivers, not coming to a poverty entry. illegally crossing the president wanting to say look, we are not going to give you asylum. that's playing out in the courts. senate minority leader chuck schumer now weighing in on what was a row between supreme court john roberts and president trump. pete: if you haven't been following on twitter and

public statements. the chief justice of the supreme court shot back at the president of the united states, chief justice saying there are no obama judges or trump judges, justices, it's all blinged. and trump saying no, no, no. they have different points of view. saying there are obama judges and trump judges. rachel: there are activist judges and ones who fault constitution. pete: they all view the constitution differently. chuck schumer a democrat in the u.s. senate tweeted this. he said: i don't agree very only with chief justice roberts. check this. especially his partisan decisions which seem highly political on citizens united, janice an. janice: news and shelby. so, on one level is he standing up for independent judiciary which we all believe in. rachel: of course. pete: also pointing out the fact that chief justice roberts is partisan because he was appointed by bush and chuck schumer doesn't like that. rachel: by the way, wasn't it chief justice roberts who

upheld obamacare? there is plenty for schumer to left there. griff: listen, at the end of the day, chief justice roberts weighed in very unusual. he may yet decide ultimately whether or not federal courts like this 9th circuit which ruled out of its lane, didn't say just with the case that was put before me in the lower court with my district but yet the 9th circuit judge there judge tegar ruled that the entire 2,000 border would be affected in this asylum thing. and that's really an issue that ultimately roberts is going to have to deal with. i think it's going to head to the supreme court. justice thomas cited in the first travel ban ruling that ultimately this is going to have to be decided on whether or not district, federal judges can rule for a nationwide policy. pete: president trump pointing out ninth circuit because it's been overturned so many times because it loves activist rulings. listen, again, it goes down to people taking the president literally and figuratively. in reality of course there are obama justices and trump

forming and coming up based on how we deal with this caravan plus the wall. griff: congressman, the president making it very clear he is not afraid to shut the government down as soon as the end of next week. what is the mood amongst your colleagues republican members that are so involved in this fight? are they willing to go the distance with the president? >> i think there a lot of us willing to go that distance and shut the government down because this is a real national security issue right now. and there are others who aren't going to go there so it's going to be a donnie brook but the reality is we need to do something immediately. we can't wait for a month. we have to do it next week. griff: when you say you have to do it now. how concerned are you when it looks like speaker nancy pelosi at least the democrats will take control. how concerned are you that's not going to be a point of no return. >> once the democrats get ahold of it we are not going to see policies that reform the amnesty.

not going to build a wall. they will be focused on amnesty their focus the last eight years. it's terrible. griff: congressman, let me ask you to weigh in. we are seeing this fight play between the chief justice of the supreme court and the president all about the possibility of taking away rescinding asylum claims if you illegally come. not through port of entry. if you illegally come. what do you say? i mean, you have got know gallis and have you so many ports of entry. yet, the idea of not allowing asylum if they come illegally. what do you say? >> well, you can't allow people who severe this countr -- enterthis country illy asylum. that's catch and release right now. 80% of the claims for asylum are bogus claims. and we're only getting 2% of people who come back. we give them a paper and say okay. we will let you loose. come back on this court date. they don't come back. so they just come, in claim asylum and they are in the country. so we have to change that

this potential hearing, you say that it should be behind closed doors. the former director wants it in open hearing, make your case for why it should be behind closed doors? >> sure well i think it's particularly telling that the former director of the federal bureau of investigations said he would resist a lawfully-issued congressional subpoena because it is in do in the same fashion that every investigation he ever conducted as an investigator and as director of the federal bureau of investigation which is behind closed doors. why? so that other witnesses can't hear the same testimony, why? because we have hundreds of questions to ask, and they'll be asked by former prosecutors and investigators who are professionally trained to do that. when you have an open hearing in each member of congress gets five minutes to ask questions, you can't dig deep into the important issues that have been raised in this investigation, by the other witnesses we've interviewed by the inspector

general who has a 400 page report, by mr. comey himself whose written a book and maybe he wants to sell more copies but he needs to do this in a professional fashion and once we're done we'll release that transcript to the public, so everyone can see everything that he testified to. it needs to be done in a way that goes with how an investigation is conducted. griff: now mr. chairman, comey's attorneys have said publicly that they're going to fight this do they have a case? >> well they don't have a case for doing that. what they're going to try to do is run the clock out on chairman gowdy and i because they know our terms expire at the end of the year. that's an effort because senator lindsay graham who is expected to be the next chairman of the senate judiciary committee and ron johnson chairman of the senate oversight committee have already said they're going to pick up on our work, take all of the information that we've gathered and move forward on this, as is the inspector general and ultimately i hope a

special counsel will be appointed and i guarantee you that special counsel is going to interview mr. comey and do it in a way that allows for an in depth questioning of all of the issues that mr. comey needs to answer for for how he conducted himself in 2016 and early 2017. griff: so mr. chairman, you're pivoting to the senate. is it your belief then that the incoming chairman of your committee i believe is jerry nad ler will not pick up this issue? >> i am very concerned that mr. nadler, who has not done anything other than criticize this investigation since it started a little over a year ago , is not going to follow through and it's too bad because you know, democrats should be just as concerned about mr. comey's actions in 2016 including his decision to reopen the hillary clinton investigation and tell the whole world a week before the election so there's a lot for mr. comey to answer for and everybody

, welcome. >> thank you. rachel: so tell me why you think the eval again it call community and christian community should get involved in this criminal justice reform issue? >> well first of all, we do need reform. no question about it, and this is not a perfect bill but a step , i think, in the right direction and to have bipartisan support, who thought that would be possible. this is tremendous, and we need reform when it comes to the sentencing, judges need to have more latitude when it comes to the sentencing not every criminal is the same, not every person is the same, the circumstances are different, they need more latitude and lee way. we need to have better training no question. we're not getting people prepared to leave prison to go back into the real world where they can get a job and they're marketable. these are things that in this bill that can be of great help and also their access for more christian organizations to work behind the wire. you see, i believe the only real

hope for anybody, you, me, prisoners, is god. it's only god that can change a heart and that happens when we put our faith and trust in his son jesus christ and i hope that the prisons will open up to more christian organizations, because i think christian organizations can make a real difference, because the message that we have is the message of redemption, a message of hope and a message of faith and god's son jesus christ pete: debate over something like criminal justice reform, reverend really comes down to a christian debate too, justice and grace which one holds more sway is the sense that we've gone too far in terms of justice and should be giving more grace how do you frame it in theological terms? >> well that will be debated i'm sure a century from now. no question, i believe in grace. we all do. we all need god's grace. at the same time, god is a god who is a just god, and he's a fair god, but he's also a god of

judgment and we have to understand he loves us but he's going to judge us for our sin and if we repent and turn from our sin and believe on jesus christ god will not hold us th ible for our sins but in the prisons, we need to grow grace, we need to show love and compassion, but at the same time there has to be justice. we have to account for our actions and if we do something wrong there's a penalty to be paid, but some of these penalt ies, i think, have been far too stiff for the crime that's been committed. griff: reverend your father is buried in a casket built by prisoners. >> that's right. griff: is it your sense that partisan politics have gotten in the way of doing the right thing and how important you think it is now that we have entered the holiday season i've been saying merry christmas all morning that we come together. >> well for the congress to come together, on this bill, i think, is great. yes, my father is buried in a

casket built by prisoners, these were murders that built his casket, but they had been redeem ed by the blood of a lamb. these men who are murders have put their faith in god and his son jesus christ, they were still in prison, they had a life sentence, but their lives were changed and they built this casket for my father. god can change a life, all of us , he can change our hearts and in the prison you can have all of the reform bills you want out there but unless a person's heart is changed by god through faith in his son jesus christ i don't have a lot of hope but we need to have access to these prisons in angola the warden down there king, he was probably the best warden in the history of our country. he turned that angola prison which was the worst prison in america, the most bloody prison in america, and he turned that whole prison completely around and it was really the christians in the state of louisiana that

you've got the tree, you're home , what do you do? >> well you got to start with lighting the tree of course. pete: start with the lighting got it. now there's a couple of problems some people end up with a pile of lights in one section and a big black hole in another or you get the ring around the tree. pete: i'm always guilty of that. >> which if that's your design choice might not be so bad but i would say the method is you want to split the tree in halfs or thirds start at the top and stick in that female end so that you're ready for a lit topper if you would like and zig zag all the way down and go in-n-out of the tree. pete: zig zag one side and then the other? rick: doesn't make sense so you're not trying to undo it afterwards. >> as long as you don't wrap or cross the strings when you come around the other side you'll have no issues. pete: i've never done that. it's a good technique. >> and easy enough to add another string. pete: i always don't have enough so i'm trying to stretch it. >> we recommend about 100

politicos border patrol preparing for the caravan search pete: here to weigh in crust oms and border patrol director of field congratulations for san diego, pete flores. thank you very much for your time and your verse how are you preparing for what's gathering just south of your border? >> well good morning, we continue to prepare internally and with our partners in assess ing our vulnerabilities and our infrastructure that we have at our ports of entry and in between the ports of entry. continued to build obsticles, sure up fence lines, build obsticles at ports of entry or any gap that we see potentially as a concern for us. we watch the caravan movements continue to watch their message ing acts and anything that they're potentially doing in regards to protest, movements , shifting in mexico, continue to watch their transit as they move into the mexicali area and then into the

tijuana area. from an internal aspect, customs and border protection we have shifted about a thousand employees between arizona and california so we continue to push fourth into these areas in order to ensure that we have enough employees here to protect and secure our borders at our ports of entry. griff: so director are you putting that eastward shift in place because you're concerned that this large caravan may choose not to come to the port of entry legally but rather to try and come illegally? >> so we have been preparing all along for both as we surge our forces from arizona into california, we have been preparing for both and that is why we've been looking at our fencelines and that is why we've been looking at our ports of entry in working with the department of defense on making sure that we are closing any gaps that we see out there with some obsticles and infrastructure.

obviously, what we are or what we are requesting and what we are expecting is the caravan members to follow the orderly process of applying for asylum but we are preparing for the worst obviously. rachel: director on the other side of the border the tijuana mayor has expressed a lot of concern just now hitting the news cycle and saying we're really worried that we don't have the resources are you working with them on the other side either to get intelligence and information about what to expect if they do cross or how is that working the relationship between the two cities? >> so here we are working on a regular daily basis with the governor of mexico on assessing the situation of the migrant caravans on where they are and how we work closely together to ensure an orderly process to the border, so the partners they've been partnering with us on a
