especially when it is friday because it is already the weekend though it will be a busy day today. thank you for starting the day with us. let's begin with a fox news alert. keeping an eye on this, police officer shot in the face and the suspect is killed with just one bullet. michael smith fighting for his life following the shooting of a georgia dentist at his georgia dentist's office, all this started when employees called 911 to report an aggressive man. it is not clear who shot the officer's gun. right now officer smith is in critical condition, a 7 year department veteran. we will follow the story. cnn given the all clear after new york city offices are evacuated for a bomb threat. and unidentified man called about 5 explosive devices in the building, nothing was found. earlier this year a florida man allegedly send a package containing explosive material to

status. through a court filing the special counsel's office will reveal details how former trump campaign chairman paul manafort lied after agreeing to a plea deal. mueller's office will file sentencing memos on michael cohen, the former private lawyer of the president who is cooperating with special counsel. this is all as the washington post is reporting, the state and justice department ordered to narrowly reopen their inquiries into hillary clinton's use of a private email server. heather: always a friday in washington. donald trump on top of all that, william bar to succeed jeff sessions of attorney general and oversee the mueller probe. of chosen it is unclear house democrats would react to this but nationalist. list morgan ortagus says this would bring respect from both political parties.

the right man for the job? joining me as the chairman for the committee to defend the president, ted harvey. thank you for joining us, we appreciate it. >> good morning, thank you for having me on. we 20 would he be the right man for the job? >> he comes to the job with great experience having held the position, he is well respected in the legal community and first and foremost he can get approved by the senate and that is what the president wants, to get somebody through the nomination process without any hiccups and mister bar will be able to do that and get through quickly. heather: in terms of the mueller probe, what will he bring to that investigation? >> the president has said the entire time he has no intention of stopping the mueller probe. he said that the last two years despite what democrats continue to hyperventilate about, the president has committed to letting the probe go forward and that is what bar will do, he will oversee it and make sure he

has sidebars on it, the investigation is not going off of things they should be looking at, just looking at the russia collusion issue. heather: some of the concerns democrats raise with whitaker, democrats crying foul because of past comments he had made regarding mueller and the mueller investigation. do you think democrats will have an easier time supporting bar? >> for me it has all been a bunch of political rhetoric by the democrats. they knew whitaker wasn't going to do anything, just trying to make political points and democrats will be hard-pressed to come up with anything on bar that he shouldn't be appointed to that position with the experience he has already. heather: let's move on to what is happening today, james comey in the hot seat being questioned by top republicans. what are the questions the

ousted fbi director should take? >> it is important to see what has come out this week that there is an email chain going back and showing the fbi and the administration knew that michael steele had gone to the press prior to the fbi, going to the f i s a, a violation of rules and procedures for the investigation. and supposedly comey is part of the email chain as head of the fbi. he knew that and still allowed his department to go forward with request for a warrant with a tainted document and his own office saying there are problems with this dossier, he has a lot to reckon with when he told congress they fired michael

steele after this came out. if that is the case he lied to congress and there's a reason he asked not to be brought before congress to have this testimony. heather: it is interesting to see if he will be treated equally when it comes to lying to congress and that takes us to manafort and cohen. memos expected to be released from special counsel mueller regarding both of them. what will come out of those? >> neither one of them, manafort did not lie to congress. what he has been convicted of is something he did 12 years ago, well before anything about being part of the trump campaign or trump collusion story, tax even asian -- evasion, he committed to work with mueller. what you are reporting is he is reneging on doing that.
