yesterday was a little exciting. now we spend sunday digesting the news. welcome to america's news headquarters from washington. >> top lawmakers in congress are reacting to robert mueller's friday court filings involving michael cohen and former campaign chairman paul manafort. gillian turner is live with more what are you saying today? >> after going dark for two months, surrounding the midterms, robert mueller's team had a high octane week that produce some development into russian collusion. dropping memos on three of the key witnesses michael flynn, paul manafort and michael cohen. sorting through the paper trail and trying to figure out what it all means for president drop. they are far from a consensus. >> i think with these indictments and filings is that the president was several

we have more insight on that. >> the genesis of the trump russia investigation. the infamous steel dossier which was used by the fbi for warrants james comey testified the information in the dossier was not verified i the fbi before it was presented in the court to get those surveillance warrants. he also testified. while the bureau did inform the court it was a piece of research, they did not state that it was funded i the clinton campaign. when he was asked if that was an important detail, he said no. it did not even seem important to me now. who cares what particular organization or people. they needed to be aware that there is a potential for bias. a political motivation.

look beyond 2019-2020. shortly after january, he will have to gear up in the campaign mode. already starting his campaign staffing. we see people leaving the white house going to the campaign. a much different transition. not only has to govern, but he has to think of his own political future and get moving on fundraising and appearances for 2020. >> the president's top economic advisor, he was asked which is it. did he resign or was he forced out? what do you think it is? well, i know, service to the president is an opportunity, not a career. between 12 and 24 months. general kelly is right in that sweet spot. the perfect time for him to transition. moving into a more political job

going to be. if that does indeed turn out to be true, either on on a full-term or interim basis, what sort of chief of staff do you think he would be? >> the president need somebody that has his confidence. needs to be a quarterback for the president's team. somebody that can manage well. somebody who can run the president's schedule. the corner of the realm is his time. if you want to see the president, you never will. that is basically the chief of staff's job to make sure the president is using his time as best he can. he has to work with investigations. he has to work with and international agenda. a political agenda. there is a lot on the plate of

here in asheville. this is a live look at interstate 240. this arcs around the northern part of asheville. there is some traffic plows coming in. they've done a good job of clearing that area out. the folks here and the governor are urging people to please stay off the roads. we are talking about some 509 collisions in north carolina and just the last 12 hours. we really want folks to stay home until tomorrow. don't go out there so first responders can do their job. >> out on roads covered with snow and i.c.e. instead wrap a few presents, decorate the the tree, watching football. >> a really good sound advice.

i see and sweet conditions out there on the roads. 200,000+ people without plus people without power here in north carolina. 85,000 people without power. the largest power supplier here in the state. having some 1500 trucks outside of the state. this state has gone through a lot this year. two to hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides. cleaning up as quickly as possible. 200 flight cancellations today. we will see what we are talking about moving forward. affecting some 20 million people. it hit texas earlier this week.

reports of tension between mr. kelly and president trump. the white house says his departure is amicable. >> i was not privy to that final conversation. the president had great things to say about him. >> the vice president chief of staff is the president top choice to replace general kelly. wanting a two-year commitment. so far he has not been able to make that commitment. the source says they are still working on the terms. the president did tell reporters he could pick an interim chief of staff. president trump announced his pick with current state department spokesperson and former fox news host heather mauer. william barr is his choice to lead the department of justice.

we've moved out of those sports complex which is just a muddy mess with some horrendous conditions for some people. a lot of donated tents and roofs over their heads for some of the families with small children did still very difficult conditions. they will have a long wait. three months. many of the people go out and check their numbers on the list every couple of days. some have returned home out of frustration. others have cross illegally into the u.s. some migrants say there is simply no way they can return back home. >> i don't want to go back. too much threat. i really do not want to go back. i feel like it is a threat for us. that's why don't want to go back. >> you hear the same story. they will wait out asylum here. many of them working temporarily
