1.3 billion and not a dime more than fiscal year 2018. what is different this time? well, democrats are about to take the house back. and pelosi speakership again and they're feeling very emboldened going into today's meeting. issuing this statement saying this holiday season the president knows full well that his wall proposal does not have the votes to pass the house and senate and should not be on stack kel to bipartisan agreement and schumer had this to say. >> president trump wants to throw a temper tantrum and shut down the government over christmas, over the wall. that's his decision. >> but house majority whip steve scalise says the problem lies with the democrats. >> the president by the way was willing to put a lookout of things on the table to negotiate with democrats in exchange for wall founding. and they walked away and they said they don't want to do anything because the extreme left doesn't want to do anything because they want open borders. that's the dilemma.

portion of the border i get that he has had to explain to them some of these border patrol want to be able to see through what's coming and they can't do that. he actually was flexible in that area. they have walked away. when the question came a couple of days ago to nancy pelosi about hey, what about daca, what if you put daca on the table? two separate issues because courts have pushed back on the president who pulled back daca. ainsley: she doesn't want the wall because she says it's immoral. steve: she did say it's immowrl. as you look at the news stories and it was a talking point running up to the election. you saw the caravans coming toward the nation, our country, and it's like okay, what's going to stop those folks who many want asylum, many want to come in and work and whatnot, what's going to stop people at our southern border and have them essentially check in? sign the guest book? if you don't have the wall, what do you have? there was a gallup poll on migration they asked people around the world, how many of you are happy where you live? and take a look at the

number on the left portion of the screen. 750 million people around the world want to move. the largest portion of them e 20-some% want to move to the united states. now, here's the thing. i don't blame them for wanting to come here. but can we really take 158 million more people theoretically? ainsley: no. it's i actually like reading these articles about this poll because it reminds us. you hear all the negative news. we just had pearl harbor day a few days ago. i think about my grandparents fighting in the war and loving in country that great generation. it rereminds me how wonderful our country is you hear the negative news and people -- celebrities want to move to canada because they don't like this administration. but this is a reminder of how great our country really is. the majority of the 15% of people around the world want to move. they are not happy where they're. 15%. and the majority of them, 21% of them want to move

people. steve: apparently shortly after thanksgiving mr. meadows put together a 28-page diagram essentially laying out how the democrats coming in to take over the house. perhaps the president thought that would be a good game plan if he were the chief of staff. there have been a number of members of congress, including matt gaetz who said he would be great. ann coulter said mark meadows would be fantastic. brian: mark meadows agrees with the president on just about everything as he is heartened by the freedom caucus. an effective chief of staff understands what moderates think and liberals want because he knows it's not all or nothing. in fact, the president has less power starting the next year than he has now my question for mark meadow what is are you going to do to get other people involved along the way or lead deals or work with the president? i know freedom caucus can he convince moderates and other

$4 million suing president trump and defending illegal immigrants. some are wondering couldn't oregon's money be going to better uses? joining us now to weigh in is morrow county sheriff kenneth matt lock joins us from the sheriff's department out there. sheriff, good morning to you. >> good morning. steve: what do you think about the fact that the governor out there says we're going to spend $2 million to suit trump administration and $2 million to defend people in this country illegally. what do you think of that? >> i think that her budget has not been fully disclosed yet. the legislature will be meeting and so forth. the thing that is difficult, the dollars are tight and it seems like it's an awful lot of money that could be used for other projects in oregon, especially on that side of the state as it relates to homeless population. we have got a great drug problems and mental health

problems those jobs will be used for that. >> independent analysis to determine the funding. the request for $2 million. they said we can use $2 million and rather than look into it says okay we will give you $2 million. >> well, i -- you know, i don't know the thoughts going into this. i know that the immigration issue continues to be a big deal in oregon. we are an evenly divided state as it relates to immigration. i think the idea that the trump administration looking back to oregon and partnerships in oregon. we have had partnerships with our federal partners for a long time. our drug task forces have federal partners on it major crime teams have federal partners on it we work well together and we have for

years and years. and the laws that have been -- that has implemented makes it more difficult in those partnerships, i think. the thing that's interesting is we had a meeting with jeff sessions when he was out in portland and we were talking about the money that oregon wasn't getting at that time. this has been probably a year and a half or a year ago. and the sheriff and chiefs were at the meeting and i remember they asked him we're kind of caught in the middle the sheriffs and the chiefs. it was interesting because they said what you could do is be kind and just go ahead and let the grants go forward that we they were going to lose. he said no way, i'm not going to do it. there has to be more cooperation. i think it's cooperation. they want the grants, but they are not going to help the federal government in any way dealing with the immigration problem. steve: let's see what happens when the budget is

common sense media came out in 2016 revealing that the average kid in that age group is spending nine hours a day. ainsley: now they are having lower scores? >> what's happening now with the new study that came out last week from the national institute of health is that they are finding that all of the screen time it's preliminary evidence is actually affecting the brain, the cortex area of the brain. there is a thinning effect they are not saying whether it's good or bad. can i tell from you my experience it's not good. ainsley: what do we do. >> first of all teenagers frontal lobes aren't fully developed yet. think about that. what should we do? we as parents need to get involved. technology is here to say. that, we know. we need to monitor it and be on top of it and can't be a free for all where you give your kid a phone or tablet and say okay, go. have fun with this. we need to really be engaged in having conversations with these kids. this the amount of time you are going to be allowed to on it? >> you hit the nail on the head.

we want to believe that our kids can have control over it i can tell you one of the experts in this field our kids cannot control. ainsley: we're the parents. >> we are the parents and we need to be in control for them. ainsley: i was thai birthday party the other day and mom says we only let our kids watch something on screen to watch a movie or show when we are traveling in a car or on an airplane or occasionalfully it's just a prize u maybe on the wikdz, never during the week. what are the rules? any suggestions? >> final you, it's all about mod demoderation. long car right watch a movie. >> car ride should be a time i'm not going to say don't watch a movie. have a conversation, listen to music or play games instead of the kid being glued. >> believe it or not the five or 10 minutes to car rides to school. >> the best. >> most of the kids have headphones. i see it every day. ainsley: best to have a conversation. >> that's the time that i have conversations with my boys in the car. i have an 11-year-old and

15-year-old. and when they get taken to and from school once in a blue moon that's when we really have that conversation time. ainsley: you can laugh at this and all relate to this. 56% of teenagers. this was done this year. pew research. 56% of teenagers said when they didn't have their cell phones with them they felt one of these three emotions, loneliness, being upset, feeling anxious. at first i laughed at that. when we don't have our cell phones we feel the same way. >> that's where you see the addictive component. sort of like a withdrawal. somebody with drawing from alcohol or some other drug. i see this at my private counseling u that pales in comparison to violence, putting holes in the wall all kinds of stuff. >> we need to lead by example. if i'm having additional with the kids, i can't be on the phone. i need to put it away and the kids need to put it away. we as adults too need to be conscious of this. ainsley: do your kids remind you.

the american dream is out there. we have to do it right. ainsley: with so many people wanting to come to america, how do we allow them to come in but do it the right way? >> i think we have to have the right criteria for this. background investigation. you have to be qualified to come to the united states. i don't believe anybody should force themselves into the united states but we're seeing right now on the southern border, i do support the president. i did benefit from the immigration laws we have over here. my family benefited from that. but we did it the right way. we expect people to do it in the right way. not force themselves to come to the united states to violate our laws. what is missing in our immigration, intent to become american. people are coming to the united states to take advantage of what we offer them. years ago there was intent for people to come over here to become americans. we're missing that part. i hope we are able to sort of revive that again. so we attract the right people. ainsley: you like idea of a wall? >> i do. absolutely i do. people are just tired of the

a lot of translations out there in the english language. some of them vary a little bit but you have to be very, very careful. and i know the catholics have been very careful as they studied this for 16 years. they're just not doing this haphazardly. they put a lot of thought and study into it. it is an interesting point. ainsley: it is, isn't it? god can call how temptation but isn't it satan that leads you into temptation? >> well, that would be my view, no question. but i think, that we do pray that the lord would protect us from temptation, and that we would not be led in temptation but we have to understand that there is a evil one out there. there is a devil who wants to destroy your life and my life and he will do everything he can to put us into temptation, and destroy our lives. and the bible says with we have all sinned, and frankly gram is a sinner -- graham, and
