on failure to do immigration reform and instead of focusing on checking a box for the president, campaign promise of building the wall and somehow mixing that with border security and the argument that democrats don't want to do border security which -- here we are. what we do know by mere fact, the president has not spent money located in the last resolution to, quote, build his wall and here we are asking for additional $5 million but that makes sense. >> this is getting a kick to february. and and is this a loss for the republicans? i with the president sign this bill. >> is in his congress leaves town they will take any hopes for trump's big beautiful wall with them.

republicans have controlled the house and senate and white house for two years and the president hasn't been able to compel his own party to deliver on one of his biggest campaign priorities. i don't see that he has better luck when nancy pelosi is speaker. at this point the wall is a good campaign promise but i don't see how they get the money to get it done. rob: is that why democrats were singing last night? >> they were singing because the american people were rejoicing the government will not shut down and to give democrats and republicans a chance come next year to get together and hopefully work toward comprehensive immigration reform to deal with border security and things that 60% of what the american people want according to polls on both sides. i'm disappointed we come to the spot of this place every single year, no leadership particularly from the white house and republican congress on the issue of immigration. rob: it does not allow leadership on a lot of issues.

if there is one silver lining for republicans, they have dragged democrats to a more centrist position on the border. when they start off, having a wall of any kind was racism and now they want to secure the border but we don't think the wall is the way to do it. so many comments building a wall was the most -- securing the border was ridiculous. >> one thing i would say is as far as these shutdown dramas and omnibuss are, this is nothing new, just the way congress and washington dc function. this is not new to donald trump. we thought this during the obama administering, lawmakers need to get their act together and figure out how to fund the government. the challenge for donald trump is going to be to sell to his base. we are not talking a concrete

children in los angeles, the marine corps heard about that and directed in 1948 every reserve unit with the toys for tots program. >> you served for 37 years and got involved in this. what do you ask of people this holiday season? >> we are asking people to buy a toy when you do your christmas shopping, drop it in one of our barrels and you will bring the joy of christmas to us. at this stage the best way people can help is to go to our website, toysfortots.org and we can transfer that to areas that need help. we are talking california with the wildfires, the gulf coast, the atlantic coast which was hit by hurricanes, those people are still recovering. i have ideas. over the weekend we will say what about the children? we will be there for them. that last-minute donation could make a huge impact.
