there. brian: really? steve: yeah. the president of the united states this morning at 11:30. the house passed two wills to reopen the government but the problem is the president has made it very clear if there is no wall dough is not going to go for it. brian: richard shelby is predicting it's going to last for months. so that's pretty scary because you had hundreds of thousands of people whose livelihood depends on not lasting for months. steve: he is in charge of appropriations. brian: we did think it was going to be a 10:30 meeting. it did get changed. he got wrong. nancy pelosi's speech muttering underneath her breath i saw i think i lost a few pages. it was smooth until that. jedediah: lots of people have been wondering if president trump is going to dig his heels in or cave.

turns out vice president mike pence said we have no deal without the wall. hammering that through. take a listen. >> ever since the christmas holiday, the president sent us to capitol hill. i met with senator schumer not once but twice we engaged in good faith negotiations. the president and i cancelled all of our christmas vacation plans. we were here in washington, d.c. democrats broke off negotiations about a week ago. but the president has made it clear. we are here to make a deal but it's a deal that's going to result in achieving real gains on border security and you have no border security without the wall. >> right. >> we have no deal without a wall. steve: okay. so he is pretty clear about that. congress did pass two bills yesterday. one package was a package of six different spending bills that would open most of the government, except the department of home land security, which would be funded in that separate little sliver of a bill. the big question now is, will the president sign one of the two? it goes to mitch, of course,

for his decision. is he not going to put anything up that the president won't sign. it one, reopens most of the government. would the president sign that? it's the other one, the department of homeland security that has no wall funding that the president really has a problem with the big question will he use both as maximum leverage. jedediah: my prediction he is not going to sign anything that doesn't involve border security. he has been talking about this wall for a really long time. the people who vote you had for him are counting for it one of the bills the democrats put forth found $12 billion for more international affairs programs. $700 million for the u.n. so when they want to find money, they get out there and find money. steve: for other countries. jedediah: for other countries. when it comes do our known nation, border security, human trafficking they think that's a joke. brian: usual military, law enforcement, entitlement programs are largely uneffected. nine departments including homeland security. justice, state, and treasury affected.

and you have 800,000 people who are going to feel some type of hit. we will see what it means. right now the major impasse is the barrier which is so maddening is senator dick durbin in 2006 multiple times, senator schumer. you have harry reid when he was majority leader they all said they need a fence. the words debating on the couch fence or wall. now the president says my give is i just want a barrier. but now the democrats are saying i don't even remember wanting a barrier. speaker nancy pelosi says i find it immoral. which is unbelievable. you would think that maybe you have to take down the hundreds of miles of fence we have already. she wasn't shy by using sarcasm yesterday. >> the situation would you accept even a dollar of wall funding for this president in order to reopen -- >> -- a dollar? he said a dollar. so that's not your question. you said a dollar. >> the fact is a seawall an immorality. jedediah: wow. steve: that is a headline right there. because she has just agreed to partially founding the wall to the tune of $1. jedediah: like i said, she thinks it's a big joke. i don't find this funny at all. i think it's interesting that she can joke about humanitarian crisis on the border and they can find money for a bunch of other stuff and deprioritize national security. it's not immoral to know who is coming in and out o country to have ice agents doing their job and border patrol agents to do their job to secure this country. i think it's really offensive whether you have children coming here and suffering through horrific conditions to get over here, some dying. you had a child die. a story wildly reported. you have her laughing about it. no, you have this administration trying to do something to prevent these crises, nancy, it's not

the former fbi director. meanwhile, we heard from jim jordan, member of the house freedom caucus he hit twitter up pretty fast. jedediah: we knew they couldn't help themselves. sherman files articles of impeachment on the president. dems are more focused on stopping trump than building the wall and helping the country. no surprise to a lot of the people that they came out on this immediately. brian: i think they have to have a strong leader and leader says don't do it right away. we will see what happens with the mueller investigation. you would think sherman might say i might listen to the new speaker. but he didn't care. so, we will see if that gets a vote. meanwhile, one of the freshman that is going to be -- rasheda is one of the freshman who is going to be in washington and i think she is going to be very open and honest when she can work with the president. or she might not be. try to read between the lines. >> momma loves you. bullies don't win.

government. senator collins and senator cory gardner, are you going to be the third? >> you know, i'm going to say it's going to be awfully hard for me to support anything that does not include funding for a border wall. the president has been very clear on this. we need border security. we need to build the wall. that's important to the people of my state. listen, the people of missouri have sent a message twice now in the last two years, 2016, 2018, they want our border secure. and that's what we have got to fight for. brian: all right. we will see how long this lasts. the president has dug in and says he feels great supporting it. i understanding the president has backed off. listen, i'm not saying a 2,000 lock mile. i will take fence and barrier. we have to fix other places. if he will take fence and he will take a barrier and is he talking about metal slats. senator schumer caught up by a reporter and asked about his earlier comments in 2008 and 2006 saying he was for a fence and need border security. he was confronted with that here's what he said. >> it's not just fencing.

a fence works. you ask the experts. a big concrete wall is expensive and doesn't work. brian: so he said i will take a fence. is that a jumping off point? >> you know, i mean, look, this is what this is all about. this is all about pure politics. the people of this country sent a message in 2016, 2018, they want results, brian. they want the border secure. they want folks to actually get something done in washington. and now you have the democrats saying we won't even come to the take. you can see it in senator schumer's response. the ever shifting goal post. the president said let's make a deal. let's meet together. we have got to get border security. let's make a deal. you have the democrats saying no. we don't want to. the people of this country elected us to work. it is time the democrats got to work. stop with the partisanship. stop focusing on 2020. you listen, brian, it's like, you know, irving around here is focused on 2020 and the democrats running for president. they need to do their jobs right now. brian: all right. the youngest guy there. you are the youngest person at 38 years old. you already have day one in

every enemy we have had since 9/11. he has fought taliban and al qaeda. last year in mosul he was charged with clearing isis from the iraqi city. the president has claimed success in defeating isis. can you draw a direct line from that success to my brother who led one of the most successful platoons in miss siewl to clear ice sis in iraq. they are one of the most indesvictim mat enemies that we have. people like eddie we send there to fight them. did he that successfully, and he comes back months later a couple guys make up stories about what happened he is stripped of all of his rights and stripped of all of his due process and thrown in jail. today i'm very happy and honored that you have us on the show to tell us about this man being unfairly and unjustly tweet treated. we are bleeding with whoever we can talk to for help. steve: sean, yo, you say your

skate by. steve: sean, i have got to ask you about the specific charges though. >> sure. steve: your brother is accused of premeditated murder. the way you tell the story is this isis fighter had already been shot and your brother was trying to revive him and now people are saying that he killed a guy who was about to die? >> yes. again, i can't stress this enough. every headline that you hear in this story is it's a con coxz from these two people. every slander is worse. it's ridiculous at the outset that an isis fighter who is part of a team who was using a compound that was shelled. all of them died but one. he had a sucking chest wound and severed artery. my brother and a couple her navy seals were working to revive him so they could later interrogate him. he dies of existing wounds. my brother is accused of helping an already dying

fighter die and is he in prison. steve: charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault. related offenses. the navy put out a statement sean that reads no additional information is available at this time regarding the scheduling of gallagher's court martial or other pre-trial hearings. so you are saying he didn't do any of that stuff, all these stories were win ginsd upy people on his team. in that game of thrones style battle with isis? >> yes. and the thing is, too. the thing that makes us so frustrated and infuriated as the a family, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that clears my brother that exxonner rates him from all of these charges. there are two iraqi generals who say they were there at the incident and this never happened there are multiple of his teammates who literally say they saw this isis fighter breathe his last breath from injuries sustained from shelling in a compound. we know these guys making these accusations and that they are made up.

that border security. steve: big question is at this meeting the president has convened at 11:30 this morning, with nancy and chuck, provided they do come and show up, will they be able to get off the mark? right now, at the conclusion of the day on congress yesterday they passed two funding bills. one funds most of the stuff closed through the balance of the fiscal year through september. the other a narrow part of the government that funds department of homeland security. the republicans have a problem with that because there is not any money for the wall. the big question is now that nancy pelosi has been elected speaker of the house will she have some negotiating leverage over her freshman class and other very progressive members of her caucus to go ahead and make a deal with republicans or will she be inflexible and simply say i'm not going to give a dime for that darn wall? brian: look at senator richard shelby yesterday. he predicted yesterday that the shutsdown could last for months and months.

and mark zansdy weighed in too of moody analytics. if he does that even though it's a scaled down shutdown they will do some real damage to the economy. you are looking at affecting about 800,000, about 420,000 of the workers affected are classified as essential. about 380,000 federal workers have been furloughed. the mail will be delivered. the military will be funded. law enforcement, entitlement programs are pretty much unaffected. steve: a lot of people don't feel it. so ultimately the question becomes will the democrats go ahead and within nancy's case cave to something they feel is immoral. that's what she said yesterday. chuck schumer said a wall would be mid evil or is it simply the democrats want to do one thing. and that is to chip away at donald trump until he is dead. jedediah: a lot of these democrats, remember, they supported funding for border security. this is a political fight. they know these appropriation bills are not going to get through the senate. the question is what are they focused on. senator josh hawley said the

afghanistan, we got a lot of ungoverned there in the afghan security forces are working to provide security and stability in those areas. brian: colonel, are they getting better? are they learning to stand up on their own? >> so have you got to look at this. i mean, they have been in the lead of this fight since 2014. when the predominantly most of the u.s. forces pulled out. at the height of the war we had 140,000 approximately 140,000 u.s. combat troops there, approximately 100,000 of afghan security forces. looking over 300,000 and air force and conducting these operations with the u.s. advisors' support. i would say they are getting better. brian: getting better. not there yet. we know, this too. there is about 15,000 americans over there, right? >> that's correct. brian: the president is talking about taking half out. can't talk about policy. >> correct. >> president is always thinking about you guys. and is he very impatient like many people and maybe yourself with the war. here's what he said the

other day i gave the generals all the money they end wanted they didn't do a great job in afghanistan. we spent in afghanistan more than most countries spent. i go to walter reed hospitals and i see soldiers that are so badly injured and hurt. i don't want that i want to rebuild our country. and i want to spend money on our military. brian: do you understand that sentiments and what's your reaction? >reaction? so i have got to look at this from two different lenses. you have to understand as a professional military officer, civilian oversight, you know then there is the emotional side that's, there is a lot of us, you know, not just as a country but as individuals that have gone forward to afghanistan and have provided security there and have done a lot of work there. you know, that said, you know, while i can't comment on national policy, what i can tell you is that what each of our security forces as american security forces have done in afghanistan has been absolutely beneficial and i believe has done a

great job towards the security in afghanistan. brian: what do you say to people well it's 6,000 miles away. why do we care about fighting over there. >> yeah, i can understand. that is like i mentioned about ungoverned space, there is ungoverned space there. so i would submit that what we do there has a direct correlation to what happens here. and that is our forces there working with afghan security forces that are in the lead are protecting the homeland. brian: and do you believe -- what happens if we leave? >> well, i can't even speculate what would happen if we leave. but what can i say is that, you know, the afghan security forces that i worked with in helmand province have been taken the fight to the taliban have. been winning the tac tactical engagements and i believe they will continue to do so. brian: do you feel appreciated. >> i do. can i say i feel appreciated as our friendship continued but, yeah, i mean -- brian: you should. because we appreciate you

♪ brian: all right. it has been nine days since corporal ronil singh was killed in the line of duty. an illegal immigrant now charged with his murder as a california community and the country mourns the fallen officer. corporal singh leaves behind his wife and five-month-old son. the family sharing the video of the baby boy. this is coming to you for the first time, who is now growing up without his dad. joining us now to share how the family is dealing with this tragedy is corporal singh's younger brother, reggie singh, along with chief randy richardson of the newman police department and franks siller, ceo of tunnel to towers foundation. we know frank well. he is doing great work in memory of his brother with his foundation. before we get to you, frank. let's go out to california. first off, reggie, how are you and the family doing? >> the family is doing okay. like, just like chief randy has

said, ron was the foundation for both of the families but, you start to adjust with ron nil missing from the family. brian: it will take a while. time is the only thing, you will learn to deal, but never perhaps accept. what did being a police officer mean to him, reggie? >> being a police officer meant everything to him. back in the fiji islands he always wanted to become law enforcement, wanted to be part of law enforcement. the reason why he decided to be law enforcement in america watching "cops." he enjoyed watching "cops" that is how he decided to become law enforcement, helping the community out in america. brian: wow, that is the real think show that shows what life is like as a police officer. had a chance to do it. celebrate christmas with his

family and five-year-old son, happened on december 26th. in terms of your family's story, what brought you to this country? >> so my grandmother and granddad they have been here in america for a while. they sponsored us. ron and i, my parents decided for us to, migrate to america, to have a better leaving opportunity, get the education and, basically for ron to become a police officer. brian: to fight to bring law and order to america, a country that, that you can now call your own. police chief, for you, this is something you never experienced before. how have you been dealing with it, you and the others on the force? >> it has been a difficult time. we've had our ups and downs. we've had some tremendous support from local agencies helping us out. so we've been able to come

closer as a family and spend a little bit of time together, leading up to the services. brian: chief, if you don't mind me saying so, every death is a tragedy. we know it happens on the roads every day. we know sadly, it happens domestic situations but when you hear about illegal imigrans with a criminal record here illegally the word keeps popping into my head is preventable. what about you? >> absolutely it was preventable if you listen to the words that have been spoken and this job is becoming harder and harder for us to do. we're being handcuffed by policies and laws and this was a preventable tragedy that, if we were able to turn this suspected killer over to immigration, we wouldn't be sitting here having this interview right now.

brian: we wouldn't. reggie, looking at video, first time i was seeing it i was reading it, glancing down, as we see the video of your brother with his son, what goes through your mind? >> it breaks my heart. ron wanted the baby. ron was very into outdoors. so he wanted the son to start moving around, walking around asap so he could take him outdoors. he was waiting for the son to walk, talk, and it breaks my heart he will never be able to see that. brian: he won't. the president called, i guess, understands the magnitude of the situation as well as anybody. it has been a issue since the day he went down the escalator. i understand he called you yesterday? >> so i did not talk to the president but ron's wife did talk to the president. i don't have details to it but according to her she had a good

conversation with mr. trump. brian: that he called yesterday. so, frank, i don't know how you do it. you were just out in california. every time something like this happens with a police officer, you have military background, you were there on 9/11. we know what your brother went through as firefighter, running through the tunnel to get into the tower, did not survive. what was it like going to california and what is the tunnel to towers foundation looking to do? >> first of all, visiting with the family and chief, it was heartwrenching what the family is going through. they came here legally. we want to step up to greatness of america. come together. go to tunnel to towers.org. we want to pay off their mortgage. we're $50,000 short. we hopefully in one week, today a couple thousand people go to our web site, tunnel to towers.org we could come back

fox news alert. look at the number. the december jobs report releases just four minutes ago. 312,000 jobs were added last month. that is more than what economists had predicted. brian: unemployment rate is now 3.9%. that is actually up from november. don't ask me how that math is done. i mean the job report, the job report is great. wonder how the market will digest that? steve: hopefully after the big selloff, that is good. that is a blowout number. "wall street journal" surveyed economists, they were thinking if we were lucky we would add 176,000 jobs. instead we added 312,000. it is solid cap of a year surprisingly frenetic employment. i was just reading in "the new york times," employers added more jobs in the first 11 months of 2008 than they did in all of 2017 is. now with that number added to it, that is quite an accomplishment.
