barrier, dirt mount, everybody will resist it. jillian: seems like in part the president is compromising a little bit by saying, okay, you don't want full-on concrete wall, we will make a steel barrier, a little bit different, i guess, you can see through it. >> it is, we went from 2,000-mile wall to like 5 billion-dollar, now steel barrier, a lot of compromise going on. rob: yeah, it kind of -- the argument kind of went from being totally immoral and, you know, we should be building bridges instead of walls and then went to democrats want border defense, now back with pelosi at least big immorality, if you look at the numbers, something like 50,000 people were caught crossing into the country illegally, what is the greater immorality in your mind, building the wall to prevent this or 50,000 people coming illegally into the country? >> tons, hundreds of tons of

narcotics and other nefarious actors coming across. you cannot take a field trip to the border to understand how bloody and deadly it is. we need to put something up there, barrier, more agents, technology or all of the above. jillian: so for a couple of weeks anyway, you know, a lot of people have been saying, we heard from border patrol agents down at the border who do this every day, they experience this and live this and this is their job every single day and they are saying what they need, why aren't some people listening to them? explain to us what you have seen down there and why it's really necessary? >> listen, i started off my career as border patrol agent in those same areas and also special agent, i have seen tunnels, narco traffickers, i have seen babies left behind at border, it's crazy. you really need to get down there and see what's really going on. you can't go to populated areas like san diego. get out to arizona, get with the agents on the ground to find out what's going on and then make decisions, sit at the table for

once. rob: interesting idea. what about all of this talk of the president declaring a national emergency and just doing it without any congressional approval, i mean, the democrats don't seem to think this is a national emergency but the numbers have picked up to quite a level of illegal entries into the country, what do you think? >> i think a national emergency would get everybody at the table, right now we have a government shutdown, 3 weeks into it and you are looking 800,000 people without a paycheck, for national emergency is what it takes to get everybody at the table to make compromise and make a decision, do it. rob: do you think -- if you look at it, everybody is saying nobody can budge on this, pelosi can budge, the president can't either, can pelosi say call it a national emergency that way we can get out of this thing, both sides can win on this. >> if you order national emergency and everybody has to get on the table in order to stop the national emergency,

takata exploding air bags. rob: amazing, a lot of cars, tracee. tracee: ford is recalling nearly 1 million vehicles after testify discovered that the metal inflators within the air bags contain chemicals that could explode with excessive force. now this is all part of that massive takata recall that's been going on for several years now. this recall includes some but not all models of ford edge, ranger, fusion, mustang, mercury, milan, lincoln models mks and mxz, 2012-2014. this is part of largest recall ever, the takata air bag recall. there have been no injuries with the ford recall but we know that the recall has been deadly. jillian: next story has my name over it. meatless cheeseburger at carl's

>> good morning. rob: capri, nancy pelosi is back, got her old job back, she's got the experience and it's a split party right now. it's like wrangling cats, everybody wants to go a different direction? >> that's right, i don't think it's anything new and i think that speaker pelosi was probably prepared to this. what we are seeing with the democratic party is what we saw in tea party movement in 2011, in this case further left faction of the party that wants to be extreme. i think that -- leader pelosi or now speaker pelosi is going to face a challenge trying to strike a very delicate balance between those individuals within the democratic party and within the caucus that want to pursue impeachment but potentially at par relate of democrats in 2020, not maybe with congressional districts, have their own sort of dynamic personalities and

priorities but more importantly they run the risk of potentially of becoming this foil for president trump leading into the 2020 presidential election which is good for democrats nationally. rob: lauren, if they go to impeachment, do they run the risk of inspiring the relationship vote in 2020, pushing them to come out? >> that's exactly what nancy pelosi is most concerned about. the comments that the congresswoman made about impeaching donald trump wasn't so much that they were worried about the impeachment message, she was guarantying that they were going to have the vote, right, and that's not what nancy pelosi wants at this point. she wants to be able to control and not energize the republican base, not create a foil of messaging for donald trump, but also not provide any sort of undo popularity boosts like we saw with president clinton with

impeachment proceeding, he had massive influx support after republicans impeached him and that's what they don't want to happen with president trump. rob: capri, as far as policy goes, the tea party spelled a lot of problems for the republican party, divided them and tough for them to get on same page. >> still doing the same thing today. are you worried about that with your party? >> i am, any leader, any party right now, i think both democrats and republicans having going through significant growing pains, i think that it will spell, you know, a push and pull as far as ideology and policy priorities for democrats in the house, but, you know, each one of these members are going to have to, you know, cast votes that are appropriate for their specific districts so, you know, we hear a lot about alexandria ocasio-cortez,

financial, someone in new york who has a very different, you know, constituency and priorities than somebody in the middle of the country, for example, that may represent my own state of ohio, so, you know, we will have to wait and see. rob: dems have the house back and they are getting busy going after the president, a lot of the things that drives the democratic party about the president they are addressing off the bat. they want new ethics rules, 10 years of tax returns from any presidential candidate, obviously they are talking about impeachment, we've got -- one idea to abolish the electoral college and democrats would love to do that because they won an election by a few million votes but lost it. they lost it because of the electoral college. lauren, do any of these have a chance of getting through senate? >> no, mitch mcconnell said they are dead on arrival. what's fascinating on this bill is very much a laundry list of all the grievance that is the democrats felt that they've had over the past 2 elections that they win the minority of --

majority of the popularity vote and can't win reelection, it's not a serious bill in that provisions are designated the elections, our election system as critical infrastructure which the department of homeland security already did in january of 2017, to some of it it's redundant, not a serious bill and even introduced it without fully having it baked, they introduced the bill and didn't have the contents to have bill ready till friday. they are really checking the box for some of the members to have vote and go home and say that they did this. >> i think it's more than that. rob: go ahead, what do you think about the electoral college bill? >> i'm against that. i think that there's a good reason why we have an electoral college and needs to stay that way. that being aside, i have seen the time and time again in my career at least at the state legislative level when bills come up to be voted on, it's not always necessarily because they expect to become law, it's to get people on record taking a stand and for some of the things
