after decades of abuse to finally fix the humanitarian, criminal and drug crisis at our border. we will win big. steve: that's right. the president himself went on television at 4:00 on saturday and he presented his proposal. the latest. this is the third time he has tried to negotiate with the democrats. every time they say no. not going to do it. this time they actually said no before he outlined the deal. these are the general guidelines of the deal. we're going to be talking about today. he does want 5.7 billion for some sort of a border barrier. initial lay concrete wall now who knows what it is but a border barrier. here's the good part for the democrats. offering three years of protection to the daca recipients, currently daca status is under review by the supreme court. this is something the democrats have wanted for a long time. they say it's a nonstarter because it's not permanent. ainsley: na addition to that he wants three year extension of protection for immigrants under temporary protected status.

and 800 million for humanitarian aid and 500 million drug detection technology. 2750 new border agents and law enforcement and 75 new immigration judge teams. brian: before the speech nancy pelosi rejects it out of hand. few democrats let them know ready to negotiate. kelsey gabbard over the weekend she says both sides are to blame they have got to go back and get back to work we shouldn't be doing this on television. and you have senator warner saying this is pretty much a starting point and then betty thompson chairman of homeland security in the house, he said. this. ainsley: he is a democrat. brian: he also said something that nancy pelosi continues to say, a wall is immoral. betty thompson doesn't say that. >> democrats historically have supported certain barriers. certain other things to protect this country. we will sit with the chief, the president, whomever and

president about $6 billion for the daca protections? keep in mind, 6 billion is, what? a fourth of what he had asked for initially. isn't it worth that to reopen the government, give those people protected status and all the other things that the president has outlined? brian: if you want to know what the president suspect against, i think he has done the right thing again. i think even though the polls right now show the democrats have the -- majority of public support, now it look as though they won't even negotiate. not when you see a proposal that clearly shows some give to a point where on the right people like ann coulter have come out and said we voted for donald trump. i look at this proposal. i see jeb. people are seeing amnesty. people tweeted back. what people have to understand even if you are conservative and elected a conservative president. there is not enough conservatives in the country for the president to do everything conservatives want. he has to be president. he is running. and to do that you have to show some give.

these stories about me are not true. >> yeah. brian: he went out there and said, listen, we heard all -- as we walked up there. see all these negative chants against us. i asked permission for some -- like a spirit chant from our school. >> chaperone can we chant our school chant back at these people? it isn't just make america great again hat. we are sitting here being the object of ridicule. we have nothing against it we are going to a protest with my fellow students. so they chantinged back. and he claims that this vietnam vet who is actually native american walked up to him and started pounding the drum right in his face and he thought the best thing for him to do would to be stare straight ahead and be nonconfrontational. ainsley: well, the full video was finally released and it caused a lot of conservatives to come back and say i'm sorry. i judged what was happening without seeing the full video. nic, the young boy that you see there. it's just been awful for his family. he released a statement and

being called every name in the book including a racist. i will not stand for mob like character assassination of my family's name. i'm mortified that so many people have come to believe something that did not happen that students in my school were acting in racist fashion toward african-americans or native measures. i did not do. that will do not have hateful feelings in my heart and did not witness any of my classmates doing that. steve: take a look once again. this is some of the video showing he is there in the spot shadow. that shows the native american activist walking toward the young man wearing the maga hats from the high school. now, keep in mind, the dynamic was you have got got closer to the lincoln memorial you have got the high school kids. but 10 or 15 away from them you have this group of four or five activists yelling a rot of inappropriate things at the young men. that's why they asked their chaperone can we shout school cheers and things like that?

been clear was based on the earliest video snippets we didn't really know what happened. after friday, with the rush to judgment on buzzfeed, which was stopped at 7:30 at night and made every panel condemning the president look so ridiculous that shows no one learned any lesson the next day jumping to conclusion about this. steve: i hope the people who issued one sided condemnations correct their stories. i'm curious what u.s. congressman john yarmuth a democrat from kentucky, he tweeted out i'm calling for total and complete shutdown of teenagers wearing maga hats until we can figure out what's going on. they seem to be poisoning young minds. shut down teens in the hats. brian: very good reaction. he later tweeted that it was a joke apparently. i'm being told that. ainsley: let us know what you think about that story, too. steve: exactly. ainsley: hand it over to jillian, headlines. i'm sure you were watching last night. jillian: i was. we will get to that.

i keep going back to one story that was done. done by axios and survey monkey. it said that 92% of republicans, republican leaning independence say that traditional news outlets knowingly report false or misleading stories at least sometimes and this is reflected by studies by pew and gallup. just republicans don't trust the media. >> 79% of independents agree with that assessment as well and a majority of democrats. so, look, the media gets it wrong but people more and more don't trust the messenger. hopefully this doesn't have an impact on this kid because apparently receiving death threats. is he only a junior in high school. this is so unfair. brian: people say it's provocative to wear the hats. he is president of the united states. 60 million people voted for him. you wore a button or hat showing it is provocative. there is video available of kids walking out in the square and being screamed at

education is deeply offensive to us. we have a rich tradition in america of christian education. we'll let the critics roll off our back but this criticism of christian education in america should stop. ainsley: that is the vice president responding to criticism of his wife for returning to teach a part time -- to a part time position as an art teacher at virginia christian school. that private elementary school does not allow gay or lesbian teachers to work there as a result, the #expose christian schools began to light up social media. tony perkins is the president of family research council and he joins us now. good morning to you. >> good morning, ainsley, how are you this morning. ainsley: i'm good. thank you. we wanted to bring you on to talk to you about this and get your reaction. do you think there is an attack on christian schools? >> oh, there is no question about it. i talked to the vice president about this last week. really the outrage here should be an outrage over the outrageous reaction to the fact that christian

schools in america actually teaching that students should uphold and embrace biblical teaching. what this school is doing is simply teaching the bible. ainsley: we might not agree with the school's stance, some people, do, some people don't. she has a right to teach there. isn't she entitled to her beliefs and her own quingszs? >> absolutely. i mean, there is parents all across america that are sending their kids to these institutions. over 10,000 christian schools in america, over 7,000 christian colleges. and, look, parents are making great sacrifices to send their kids here so that number one, academically, they have an advantage here. these are good schools. secondly, it's to teach them the values, the moral teachings that they want their children to have. they are created in the image of god, therefore, they have value. yes, we are all sinners, but we have a savior, his name is jesus christ. he came to redeem mankind. and we surrender our lives to him and live according to the word of god. that's what they are teaching. karen used to teach here

5.7 billion for some sort of a border barrier and all the rest of these things are things that the democrats are all agreed to in the past. he would extend daca recipient protection for three years which is new. and a lot of people in daca would love that. ainsley: three year extension for protection for immigrants under temporary protected status. $800 million for humanitarian aid. $805 million in new drug detection technology. 2070 new border patrol agents and 75 new immigration judge teams. brian: over 75% of the public think the daca thing, the kids, the people who came here as kids are now young adults. steve: dreamers. brian: should be allowed to stay. it's overwhelming. now for very conservative republicans, they are upset at the president for even including that. in i don't know what they expect to do. they expect of the president. he has got to show some give. it's called negotiation. you can't have a route. the democrats wants it all their way.

territory. brian: media in a frenzy about president trump. the media is exposing its bias yet again with the handling of that story and even its coverage earlier this week of william barr's ag confirmation hearing. jonathan turley thought he saw it all before this cycle of news but you, man, weeing a lot of this. jonathan, you think the media was more exposed than ever friday. >> i think it was. it was an odd week. they started out the week by really castigating bill barr for a rather scholarly memorandum on the use of obstruction with regard to one possible count. the firing of james comey. and the democrats and the media went crazy saying oh my god you are speculating have you no idea what mueller h why the end of the week they jumped all over buzzfeed and said impeachment and indictment seemed eminent. what i think it does show is that there is an initial bias in what goes into a lot of these stories.

bill barr was perfectly right in writing that memo. his memo was actually quite good. i actually don't criticize buzzfeed. if they actually had two people associated with mueller saying this, it was news. it was what the media did with the article that is so disturbing. brian: yeah. the special counsel says basically no. in the beginning they stayed out of it and pointed them to an area where they would have showed them that the story, they couldn't back up because special counsel didn't know it and then they finally had to come out and say it's not true because it affected them so much. yesterday, rudy giuliani moved the story forward and i think tactically. he said it would be perfectly normal that trump talk to michael cohen before he testified to congress. would it? and, if not, is there a reason why rudy said it? >> well, i think that first of all, to take the last question first, i think that giuliani is trying to preempt michael cohen testimony. people are kidding themselves if they think the buzzfeed story is going to be 100 percent wrong. i think michael co-son going

ainsley: a college professor taking a stand against the lack of diverse viewpoints on campuses during a pep talk. here with more is that professor jonathan dunn who teaches political science at the university of colorado and colorado springs. thanthank you so much, professor for being with us. >> thank you for having me. ainsley: you are welcome. >> you make a point in your pep talks diversity is good. most campuses rarely enforce that but so is viewpoint diversity why is it so important to represent all views on these college campuses. >> certainly. i think it's important for teaching and research? those are the most important things we do. if we are training the next generation of leaders, we really do need to make certain students are exposed to a wide range of ideas. as well as if you are generating research if you don't have people trying to point out some of the errors in your research, then they are going to be danger that you are going to consolidate around viewpoints that are

really incorrect. ainsley: i know you went out and interviewed conservative and libertarian professors. you said about a third of them were scared they were going to be outed and hiding their political beliefs. that's unbelievable. >> yes. 1/3 of them hid their politics from their colleagues and they described themselves as in the closet conservatives. and they were often really afraid, actually, to speak with us. sometimes when we contacted them they thought there was a rare scare in reverse we were trying to locate them so they could be run out of the university. ainsley: what do you think they were most scared about? we saw them a lot during the election. democrats are shocked that hillary didn't win some people voted for president trump that didn't want to admit it because they were scared they were going to be labeled racist? >> sure. so they really were afraid of professional consequences. they thought if their colleagues found out that they happen to be a conservative they might be denied tenure and be punished professionally that way. ainsley: well, why was it important for you to get this message across in talks and what was the reaction

from your peers? >> reaction so far has been positive. it's really difficult to dispute the idea that we need a range of viewpoints represented on campus. i thought it was important the mile high people were interested in the topic. large audience. i thought it was important to present it to them. ainsley: there is a statistic where it looks like if you look at all the liberal arts universities, 39% of the top tier liberal arts colleges had zero republican professors. do you think that will change? >> >> i don't think it's going to change any time soon if you are going to get conservative professors you need to get conservatives going into graduate school. a lot of conservative students who just really aren't interested in a career of higher education or afraid they will be discriminated against because of their politics. i don't think it will change any time soon. there is an effort particularly by people on the left in university to try and generate a greater range of viewpoints. a great organization letter acay

brian: here now the voice behind that ad, ceo of egard watch company. elon, what prompted this? this was all about gillette? >> you know, gill let was i guess the straw that broke the camel's back. there is narrative in society i feel that just been painting men with a broad bush. for a company like gillette to open up a commercial with a term like toxic masculinity, i don't feel like masculinity is toxic. i think masculinity is beautiful. femininity is beautiful. we celebrate both of them. they go hand in hand. there is pervasive narrative not helping anyone. if gillette wants to make a positive impact i don't know if that is the right way to go about it. ainsley: did you have support from friends, from could cowork, friends at company, supported

you making your own video? >> initially, no, there was a lot of fear and some backlash. the basic response was, if you look at political climate now, not is is the right time to make an ad on this, even if they believed in the ad. i went ahead made the ad alone. some people say it will draw attention away from women's rights issues. i ended up locking myself in a room. i recorded it myself. you know why the voice acting embarrassing people hear my voice, okay. but essentially i went ahead, i made it and i decided to at end of it all, despite all of that, say i have to put my company behind it. if i release it anonymously. i heard a quote that motivated me. i heard a quote you can act out of who have or act out of fear. releasing it anonymously, felt like censorship, felt like fear. i love my company. i worked very hard to build it, standing behind it meant a lot

more. i felt it would make a statement to other companies, it is okay to put out positive messages for men. we all deserve it as society. women are asking for it too, this positive message for men, so, that was the goal. brian: you know, you have some stats. you're not just saying men are good, this is how i feel. you're saying 97% of war fatalities are men. 70% of homicide victims are male. nearly half of fathers without visitation pay for child support and account for all suicide victims. men are paying a price, it is not always a man's world get out of my way. >> every time i bring up statistics to people met completely dismissed you know things, hey men choose to do those things. there is response that disregards these stats. they matter. and i think we can talk about the issues. we have to talk about those issues. we can still talk about the other issues.

they don't take away from each other. there is no exclusivity on suffering. there is no exclusivity being wonderful. we have to draw attention to all of this. it is amazing to me that those stats exist and how many people have written me, saying i didn't know all of these things. we have to be able to talk about them. that is just, something i felt for a very long time. that is part of the reason i wanted to put out the message is, you know, there are a lot of things that men sacrifice. look at go options, when making this message. look at what gillette did, take the minority, take the worst men and say, okay, well some men aren't like this but some is not enough. well to me it is not some men. it is overwhelmingly majority of men who are not like that. overwhelmingly majority of men who sacrifice, want to be protectors, want to be good. how do you effect positive change you? show the best of us. that is what inspires me. brian: where will we see the ad? is it running?

troops but showing it through your actions. what does that mean if you're a young platoon leader in afghanistan? means getting out of a truck in middle of a kill zone, to show, prove to the troops you care about them. for the commander-in-chief, going to dover air force base for dignified transfer of remains. spending time with the fallen. no more sacred act than president of the united states to be there, support families of the fall inch. i think president trump does it better than any other president. brian: sean, i understand it is really tough. at times this is the rawest moment of family of those who lose their lives. if you show up as president, you don't know, you could get blasted by the family? >> there is no doubt about it. i can tell you from experience one of the hardest things you ever have to do in this life is write a letter home to someone who lost their life in combat. i've been a casualty notification officer the duty is to notify families of fallen.

i've been on receiving end. i know how difficult it is but families often look back at the moment are thankful they had somebody that cared, that was there for them. and i'm telling you right now, for the commander-in-chief to be there, to be present, means the word to families of the fallen. so much, so much about being a successful commander in the military is just about showing up when the times are tough. you know, being first in that foxhole, you know, on the front lines of the fight and last out is what it is all about. again, president trump being there with the families of the fallen during the toughest time of their life is probably the most important, will, the families will look back to be thankful of that. >> what is your message to the president if he is watching as a retired army ranger? >> keep everything you can do in your power to put the troops first in everything that you do. whether you're on the campaign trail, campaign rallies, policy

decisions. i think commander-in-chief owes it to every ink is fell person dawn as uniform in the military. make sure every mission we send troops to is vital to national security interests, has a clear-cut tangible end state to missions. so we aren't in the never ending conflicts that perpetually puts american troops lives at risk. brian: every day that we're not losing winning in afghanistan, some say the theory is 1years and blow back will be stateside. say the same thing about syria. the president has to keep that in perspective as well, right? >> there is no question about it. i think in afghanistan my primary concern would be for the allies who came out of the shadows to support the u.s. military on the ground. we have to do everything we can to make sure the allies are taken care of but i would also add to that the caveat we can't be there forever. we've been in afghanistan over 17 years. there were kids born prior to 9/11, could be potentially

deploying to the afghan war now, most americans don't even realize there is a fight going on. there would i encourage the president or lawmakers or people in the pentagon, what is the end state in afghanistan? what are we there for? the point i'm trying to make we owe it to our troops to have a tangible end state to the mission. the same is true for syria. i think, isis as an ideology will persist for decades but the mission that the president outlined when he sent troops there was destruction of the caliphate. you know, when we went into syria, isis had a governing body that was imposing oppressive tactics of the people. they controlled large swaths of territory. they controlled cities. they controlled oil fields. they don't have that anymore. i think mission was accomplished in syria and the president brought people home. i don't think we should be criticizing him for that. brian: but his whole national security team recommended against it. steve: great observation, sean parnell.

brian. brian: thank you very much jillian, a officer, once named officer of the month shot and killed in the line of duty. ainsley: alabama officer sean tudor gunned down trying to make an arrest. steve: from our mobile, alabama affiliate joins us live from the police headquarters with latest on the investigation. reporter: good morning, you guys, we're hear trying to get a lot of questions answered this morning. a lot of folks in the law enforcement community and our community in general waking up to this news, very devastated. again that officer shot and killed yesterday afternoon. very good family man. a very dedicated police officer here. he was trying to make an arrest of marco perez, 19-year-old marco perez. he was wanted by mpd as well as federal authorities for gun charges. he is now in custody and our district attorney, ashley rich, says she will go through with

capital murder charges. he will have a bond hearing. we'll see if he remains behind bars or not. if that name, marco perez sounds familiar, he was on the run for two weeks as mpd was looking for him with an arrest warrant. he faked his own kidnapping and murder and along with his mother. that is why they were looking for him. that officer shot and killed trying to make the arrest yesterday. now the chief here in mobile says that the arrest comes easy. what comes after that the conviction is is the hard part so a lot of information still has not been released as far as that shooting didn't is concerned. hopefully later on today we'll learn a little bit more. a very hard time. this is the second police officer here in the city of mobile that the department has lost in the less than 12 months. so again very hard for the community right here. a lot of people wrapping their arms around them this morning in
