often call in the sure -- sherlock holmes mysteries, the doctor didn't bark. the missing reporter. what's his name? leopold wasn't there. he is the dog that didn't bark. when the dog doesn't bark, that's where the story is. he is the achilles' heel. he said this stuff. now he's not there and then brian stelter asked these guys, have you seen this? i'm not at liberty to say. that's where the story is. >> jesse: the buzzfeed guy says they leopold person is doing some other reporting. working with some other stories. >> greg: he is changed to a radiator in the bronx. >> jedediah: the guy who has been discredited a million times. he found fabricated stove. he talked about karl rove being indicted. he probably didn't see the evidence. now he's in trouble. to cover the story without looking into that guy. it's amazing.

they put this story out with anonymous sources. they don't look into the back of this guys is a complete -- practically a fabrication himself. they peddle it out there and we've gone from collusion to obstruction to next it's going to be trump said -- nothing is off the table. the story is crazy. >> greg: at least he didn't put a dog on the roof. due member that story? >> jesse: juan, you looked puzzled. >> juan: i thought dana was going to say something. it's a sad story and a number of fronts. as we sat on friday, we don't know if it's true or not. you say people saying what if. if it was true, it would be a bombshell. >> jesse: all the big stories. >> juan: i don't see that it's that big of a leap from the fact that cohen has pled guilty to lying to congress about these things at the direction of client number one. the question is, we don't know that trump did this. we don't know if it was trump's

aides but according to cohen, that's what's on the record. as you pointed out, between 88 says they are standing by the story. i'm curious because it's interesting to me that buzzfeed gave peter carr, i think mueller spokesman, where they were going to publish a story. no response from mueller's office and then mueller's office as something unusual which is to repudiate the story. to me, what they said was the story is wrong. >> dana: that's what i was going to talk about. >> juan: and then buzzfeed says wait a second. are you saying that the story is wrong about the grand jury part about you having the evidence, or is it wrong altogether? that i must say, we need to be careful on that point, just as we are careful about the buzzfeed story. >> jesse: what do you think about the significance of the special counsel coming out? >> dana: i feel for peter carr in some ways. i was a spokesperson of the justice department for a while. when i was there, one example, the bush administration inherited a lawsuit that the clintons filed against microsof

microsoft. there was settlement talks going on between the two parties and i got press calls every day. >> greg: so did i. >> dana: is that happening? all i was instructed to say was no comment. i learned 101 ways to say no, it's because you want to be thoughtful to the press and return their call but you can't see anything. ratchet it up times a gazillion. you are peter carr. all day long you get questions from the press. buzzfeed, san antonio, the ap, fox news. everyone is calling. mueller has told you you are saying nothing at all ever. buzzfeed, in a way i can imagine get the phone call and you're like those guys again? i'm not answering. i've already told you we are not commenting. then the story gets out ahead and you see all the other reporters are saying if that's true, and i think the pressure of that made them have to come out and say i don't know what

they are talking about. it doesn't have to do with the special counsel's office. the question is, doesn't have to do with the southern district of new york? those are two different investigations and there's a wall between them. i don't know if they are sharing information. it could be why these guys from buzzfeed say they have sources, that they haven't been specific as to whether story is. >> juan: they said that their stories were law-enforcement people but it's not part necessarily of a special prosecutor. >> dana: southern district of new york. they are notorious -- >> juan: it could be that mueller is protecting his office, saying that we don't know. we didn't like this. everyone who is pro trump is celebrating this, you have to stop and say wait a minute. i guess it isn't a witch hunt. what did trump say? 13 angry democrats going after -- >> greg: maybe it is good. the fact is it's kind of encouraging news. it's encouraging news if you are

a defender of the president, if you see this happening. >> dana: or even a defender of the prosecutor. >> greg: they are trying to find a new bombshell. they have to stop saying bombshell. it's an insult to actual bombs. now they are saying that the real estate deal with russia probably went all the way up to the election. that's your bombshell know? you are blaming trump for precisely what you, the critics did too which is not taken seriously and not expect to win. he was just doing his job until he lost, but then he won. >> juan: he covered it up. even giuliani said -- 2016. initially no, no. we had no business. no ties to russia. >> jedediah: the message, these reporters, all you have to do is put the story out there. it doesn't matter if it's true. it doesn't matter if the sources are right. they count on people getting tainted vision of trunk immediately. by the time the corrections come out or the rest of the story comes out, they count on people being like i didn't trust that

>> greg: it exploded all over twitter. kids and hats taunting a native american man. not so fast. soon after, other tapes surfaced where it appears the teens were doing cheers when approached by the drummer who beat the instrument in their faces. this was after different activists had approached and harassed the team. with more info, this news story seems different and the old story, how did that happen question. the media embraced the story because that's what we do. we can't resist being first. can't resist being second. anyway the media was provided their favorite villain, the red cap. for the press, you can't spell heat without hat. i came up with that today. pretty good? the media knew this story also would distract from the buzzfeed

mass. i saw the story unfold, and trusting my own eyes, i saw obnoxious teens. my chaperone instinct kicked in. if i am critiquing liberals all day, i should also police by the way, isn't that the big question here? where were the chaperones? i always had them when i was in high school. i deserve them. i said the kid should apologize but maybe it should be made for jumping the gun. however, i do know this story has changed once and it's going to change again which is why it's up to us and to me not to take the bait when we are bored or possibly drinking on a saturday afternoon. i have said it before. always be skeptical. nobody knows where her story goes. that's great advice i gave. next time i'll take it. i have a question, dana. the big story or one of the big stories today, celebrities and media types taking down their twitter in which they were bashing these kids. i left mine up.

i think taking something down if you think it's wrong -- if a tweet endangers somebody, you should take it down but you should leave her footprints up until you take it all away. >> dana: in some ways, you know how i complained that in the media something will happen and then there's a correction but the correction only gets one-tenth of the attention is the original article. i could see where you might want to take it down. but it does raise an interesting question. trying to erase it so this whole fight in europe, do you have a right to be forgotten? one thing you have a right to do is you don't have to tweet. you don't have to do it, but you should come as an adult in particular, have to own what you say. if you got it wrong, you say i got it wrong. >> greg: jesse, the school may sue for slander. i also saw that on twitter. it sounds like -- do they have a

jesse watters. smirking elicits this reaction. the bottom line is, the black hebrew israelites are not getting any attention. they are the ones. some of the most racist, hateful people you will ever encounter in your whole life. i understand why these kids were chanting and trying to create a counter protest. >> greg: to jesse's point about the group, i used to see them in times square all the time. what is their religion, what's their issue? >> juan: basically what they're saying is they are the real israelites. they are there real people who are the chosen ones, not jewish people. they have all sorts of elaborate mythology, ideology religious theory that puts them at the

center of the universe. they do say hateful things and they can be threatening. but what you heard here initially was that the native american elder said there are only four of the israelites and there was a big group of kids in the maga hats and all the rest. the israelites were saying the offensive things and then the kids were starting to come back and screaming at them. >> greg: i just saw them laughing. >> juan: chanting or whatever the high school chant was. >> greg: they never said "build a wall," or whatever. >> juan: i don't know about that. he told reporters he intervened to stop the high school kids from attacking what he described as these four black eyes. then we see subsequently maybe not the case. what strikes me is that both the roman catholic high school and the diocese both initially apologized based on what we first saw. >> greg: i agree. i thought they should --

i saw the initial stuff and my first thing was i didn't see the adults there. now what we have to worry about is what happens to this kid, the student whose faces everywhere and is getting death threats because that's what happens. >> jedediah: he is saying that he and his family are getting death threats. i watched two hours of this video from three different angles and i did find it fascinating that the only thing -- they were talking about the smirk on the chanting and you could argue, this is a bunch of high school boys and their parents may be need to have a conversation with them about when you are in a chaotic or antagonistic situation, just walk away. don't stand there. don't steer somebody down. what if the kids, from what we know, what did they do? there is no assault. you have the black hebrew israelites shouting anti-gay slurs, racist slurs. they called them young klansmen, school shooters. they do that before and after the entrance of nathan phillips.

it looks like a chaotic scene. i watched from every angle and i didn't see nathan phillips get surrounded by them in a menacing way. i saw him walk right into the scene. i think in the age of twitter, it's hard because see the story and you're right you want to jump, you want to comment. i was surprised to see -- i have to commence on reporters. there were some reports on other networks to jump to conclusions and walked it back and said listen, i shouldn't of done that. when you watch the whole video, it's so clear these kids are being antagonized. how they responded, you could say, wasn't mature. i don't ask for to high school teenager to be mature. as of now, the amount of coverage they got for root expression versus what the black israelites had, it's astonishing. >> greg: i think if we learned anything, there's a future jesse watters out there. >> jedediah: and he's got the hat. >> greg: that hair is not made for a hat.

tactic. it's hard to negotiate when a gun is held to your head. >> dana: senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says he's going to bring up trump's plan for a vote this weekend a moment ago, 13 minutes ago, president trump tweeted about the wall and he said: "if nancy pelosi thinks that walls are "immoral," why isn't she requesting that we take down all of the existing walls between the u.s. and mexico, even the new ones just built in san diego at their very strong urging. let millions of unchecked "strangers" just flow into the u.s." that actually was a question that i wanted to ask greg which is the democrats have said at the wall is amoral. so if you are there, how do you negotiate getting to border security? >> greg: i said this last week. i said that they should remove the wall between mexico. i think i said this last week.

is it amoral or immoral? >> dana: you tell me. you're the editor. >> greg: it is immoral. we have a problem. the more trump negotiates with practical compromises, the more infantile and personal the democrats seem to be taking it but they started at the wrong end. they should begin -- the prison of two ideas. we keep saying you can only have one position. you are for immigration or against immigration. that is baloney. you can have a number of different positions on immigration. for example, i am pro-immigration. i am pro-refugee with extreme vetting. i don't see -- refugees make great citizens because they are grateful. but you have to have extreme vetting because you never know if there's going to be terrorists coming in. i am living outside of this prison of two ideas. we are stuck in this thing where you have to be this for this.

it is killing the debate. >> dana: the other rhetorical excess i noticed this weekend is democrats saying that the president is taking hostages. again, it's like wow. every really talking about that? we are talking about border security. the president's position on the wall. hostagetaking, that's taking it to a new extreme. >> jesse: schumer said we will reopen the government and we can't even discuss border security until you do that. well, the president offered nancy pelosi that. he said if we reopen the government, can we do a deal on a barrier later on? you know she said, no. then he said bye-bye and that was the time he walked out of the room. greg brings up the point you say over the wall, the democrats have to say we are against the wall. thus, every reporter should be asking that very question. congresswoman, senator, do you believe we should tear down the existing wall since they are immoral and they obviously don't

work? you would have the government reopened right now if we had a fair media in the country because they would be asking these logical questions to democrats by not protecting the democratic position, and the intensity would be so strong i nancy, she would have to come to the negotiating table. i believe she has lost this argument. if you look at her getting grounded on the flight, if you look at the puerto rican p.r. disaster. trump moderating his position. the logical arguments, they just can't argue it. all they say is it's mean. so if you look at what he's offering, he's offering humanitarian assistance. he's offering changes to the asylum. he says 280 additional walls to be needed and built. what are they saying? no and millions of people are still not getting paid. i don't think it's very compassionate. >> dana: juan, the democrats don't seem to think they are losing. >> juan: they are not losing. jesse, if this was about the

media, i don't think it's about the media. i think it's about the president and his stand and what he considers to be a political symbol he can't afford to lose on. they might say i thought mitch mcconnell, republicans joined in saying let's keep the government open. let's keep people getting paid, keep the economy growing, and then negotiate. initially what the president say? and then he said no because the pressure from the right bring talk show hosts or maybe the media. if you had a republican majority for two years in the house and senate's and it didn't seem to be a priority, did it? now he goes after nancy pelosi's radical. radical? what is radical here is the president has a weak negotiating hand and i think it is starting to show. i think people were disappointed with what came on saturday. everyone thought it was going to be a big announcement. >> greg: they didn't like what he offered. >> jesse: what do you like? >> greg: this exactly what you would want.

people are saying what is progressive, specially she was the law enforcement officer as the attorney general. she didn't back things like standards for the use of body cams on cops. at other times, she didn't back the death penalty. >> jedediah: people on the left are mad because she's marking herself as a criminal justice warrior and they are saying no you weren't. gillibrand is the funniest. if you look at immigration, which is such a front and center issue. the person saying that she wants to abolish icem before she was very anti-amnesty. wanted more deportations of illegal immigrants. i don't know the strategy here because what wins the primary doesn't win the general election. it's interesting to need to see people shifting all the way and then they have to walk it back. i am curious what joe biden is going to do if he jumps in. he is known as someone who can appeal to a wide range. he's not viewed as a hard left. is everybody in the democratic field going to be very hard lef left?

if all these people were moderates, even elizabeth warren took money from fossil fuel companies. now she is totally opposed to it. is there going to be anyone who is palatable to a centrist democrat is what i'm wondering. >> juan: what do you think, jesse? who is your favorite democrat? >> jesse: i don't have one. you. you know it's you. i used to think beto was going to go on a meteoric rise to the top and now he is a weird thing everybody out that he is writing all these strange pieces on the internet and traveling all across the country in like a jack kerouac kind of way and i think he's kind of lost his mind. kamala harris is a top-tier candidate, i would agree, that's why everyone is dumping this opposition research on her. gillibrand i think is a flake. she is weak, robotic, all talking points. i don't think she actually has any sort of authentic core values. warren and i think is dead in the water and i think -- the fact that "snl" is making fun of her now this really means she's

completely toast. i was talking to my uncle, who is a politician in new hampshire, and he gets calls from all. they are testing the waters. can i have your support? in these early stages, these primaries, you have to go to new hampshire and talk to small groups of people and kick the tires and you have to put your hands here and hang out at diners. that's kind of how voters decide who they like, not by corny viral speeches on the internet or the shtick on instagram. >> juan: you have to attract donors, the social media audience. >> jesse: you have to do both. >> juan: on the inherent, you get into a situation where people say i remember when kamala harris interviewed brett kavanaugh during the hearings. that's more popular than anything alexandria ocasio-cortez has done. >> dana: for democrats, it is certainly true. republicans will never forget

that either. it will be the thing. right now she has to try to appeal to the democrats. i think today when she was answering questions about her prosecutorial record, she didn't seem quite ready for all of it. blaming her staff at the time is probably not going to cut it for very long. she's going to have to answer some of these questions. i think some of us would agree. they had a big truancy problem so she said then the parents are going to have to pay that price. parents are going to have to be held accountable. people were like, i like that. there's some stuff out there but i think her biggest problem is she doesn't really seem to have yet a way to articulate what's her rationale for running? her slogan is "for the people." it's kind of like "stronger together." she's going to have to have a better answer to why do you want to be president? elizabeth warren hates wall street and the banks. we know why she's running. gillibrand wants to be the dissent. kamala harris, "for the people,"

i don't know how to do this, animals are great or something. he had the same feeling this weekend. carolyn fretz is a little curious george windup thing. he did this about a hundred times that night. it never got old. [laughs] ed never got old. he never learned that it was coming. some would call this animal cruelty, i was just having a good time with my dog and he enjoyed it very much. >> jedediah: [laughs] >> jessie: that is when i see greg smile, i'm surprised every time. speaking of so good, a pair of pants have been named after me. i repeat, someone named a pair of pants after jesse. these are slim fit chino's. i used to go into that store and try them on and they are a little baggy for me. they made them just for me. the perfect slim fit.

[laughs] >> jedediah: firefighter said some amazing work over the weekend on animal rescue. they rescued a deer and kansas, a dog in ohio. the deer had fallen through ice and was stuck in 5 feet of water in a lake. firefighters rescued it sunday afternoon nine hours away members of the blue ash ohio department were rescuing a golden retriever that fell through ice. the city of blue ash has tweeted that the dog was returned and he is doing well. these are the stories -- honestly, life can be so crazy but firefighters are out there. i love them. i love people who go and fight and protect animals. they take time out of their day and go to these things, it just warms your heart. >> juan: firefighters are due for some kudos for helping out the fox d.c. bureau this week. >> greg: save some animals there.
